Estimation of distribution parameters from statistically limited information; muons in KASCADE experiment

The problem of the estimation of distribution parameters in the case of experimentally limited information is discussed. As an example the determination of the total number of muons in Extensive Air Showers registered in the KASCADE experiment is studied in details. Some methods based on other than standard maximum-likelihood approach are examined. The advantages of the new methods are shown. The comparison with the Artificial Neural Network approach is also given.

Experimental Information on the Mass Composition of Primary Cosmic Rays Using the KASCADE array

A procedure is proposed to extract experimental information about the primary cosmic Ray composition from the data taken with the KASCADE setup.

Bose-Einstein source of intermittency in hadronic interactions

The multi-particle Bose-Einstein correlations are the source of ''intermittency'' in high energy hadronic collisions. The power-law like increase of factorial moments with decreasing bin size was obtained by complete event weighing technique with gaussian approximation of space-time particle emitting source shape. The value of source size parameter was found to be higher than the common one fitted with the help of the standard Handbury Brown-Twiss procedure.
