A note on derivability conditions

We investigate relationships between versions of derivability conditions for provability predicates. We show several implications and non-implications between the conditions, and we discuss unprovability of consistency statements induced by derivability conditions. First, we classify already known versions of the second incompleteness theorem, and exhibit some new sets of conditions which are sufficient for unprovability of Hilbert--Bernays' consistency statement. Secondly, we improve Buchholz's schematic proof of provable $Σ_1$-completeness. Then among other things, we show that Hilbert--Bernays' conditions and Löb's conditions are mutually incomparable. We also show that neither Hilbert--Bernays' conditions nor Löb's conditions accomplish Gödel's original statement of the second incompleteness theorem.

Uniform Lyndon interpolation property in propositional modal logics

We introduce and investigate the notion of uniform Lyndon interpolation property (ULIP) which is a strengthening of both uniform interpolation property and Lyndon interpolation property. We prove several propositional modal logics including ${\bf K}$, ${\bf KB}$, ${\bf GL}$ and ${\bf Grz}$ enjoy ULIP. Our proofs are modifications of Visser's proofs of uniform interpolation property using layered bisimulations. Also we give a new upper bound on the complexity of uniform interpolants for ${\bf GL}$ and ${\bf Grz}$.

Fixed-point properties for predicate modal logics

It is well known that the propositional modal logic $\mathbf{GL}$ of provability satisfies the de Jongh-Sambin fixed-point property. On the other hand, Montagna showed that the predicate modal system $\mathbf{QGL}$, which is the natural variant of $\mathbf{GL}$, loses the fixed-point property. In this paper, we discuss some versions of the fixed-point property for predicate modal logics. First, we prove that several extensions of $\mathbf{QGL}$ including $\mathbf{NQGL}$ do not have the fixed-point property. Secondly, we prove the fixed-point theorem for the logic $\mathbf{QK} + \Box^{n+1} \bot$. As a consequence, we obtain that the class $\mathsf{FH}$ of Kripke frames which are transitive and finite height satisfies the fixed-point property locally. We also show the failure of the Craig interpolation property for $\mathbf{NQGL}$. Finally, we give a sufficient condition for formulas to have a fixed-point in $\mathbf{QGL}$.

Rosser provability and the second incompleteness theorem

This paper is a continuation of Arai's paper on derivability conditions for Rosser provability predicates. We investigate the limitations of the second incompleteness theorem by constructing three different Rosser provability predicates satisfying several derivability conditions.

Rosser provability and normal modal logics

In this paper, we investigate Rosser provability predicates whose provability logics are normal modal logics. First, we prove that there exists a Rosser provability predicate whose provability logic is exactly the normal modal logic ${\sf KD}$. Secondly, we introduce a new normal modal logic ${\sf KDR}$ which is a proper extension of ${\sf KD}$, and prove that there exists a Rosser provability predicate whose provability logic includes ${\sf KDR}$.
