Noncommutative correction to the entropy of charged BTZ black hole

Noncommutative geometry is an established potential candidate for including quantum phenomena in gravitation. We outline the formalism of Hopf algebras and its connection to the algebra of infinitesimal diffeomorphisms. Using a Drinfeld twist we deform spacetime symmetries, algebra of vector fields and differential forms leading to a formulation of noncommutative Einstein equations. We study a concrete example of charged BTZ spacetime and deformations steaming from the so called angular twist. The entropy of the noncommutative charged BTZ black hole is obtained using the brick-wall method. We used a charged scalar field as a probe and obtained its spectrum and density of states via WKB approximation. We provide the method to calculate corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in higher orders in WKB, but we present the final result in the lowest WKB order. The result is that even in the lowest order in WKB, the entropy, in general, contains higher powers in $\hbar$, and it has logarithmic corrections, and polynomials of logarithms of the black hole area.

Noncommutativity and logarithmic correction to the black hole entropy

We study the noncommutative corrections to the entropy of the Reissner-Nordström black hole using a $κ$-deformed scalar probe within the brick-wall framework. The noncommutativity is encoded in an Abelian Drinfeld twist constructed from the Killing vector fields of the Reissner-Nordström black hole. We show that the noncommutative effects naturally lead to a logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy even at the lowest order of the WKB approximation. In contrast, such logarithmic corrections in the commutative setup appear only after the quantum effects are included through higher order WKB corrections or through higher loop effects. Our analysis thus provides further evidence towards the hypothesis that the noncommutative framework is capable of encoding quantum effects in curved spacetime.

Constraints on singularity resolution by nonlinear electrodynamics

One of the long standing problems is a quest for regular black hole solutions, in which a resolution of the spacetime singularity has been achieved by some physically reasonable, classical field, before one resorts to the quantum gravity. The prospect of using nonlinear electromagnetic fields for this goal has been limited by the Bronnikov's no-go theorems, focused on Lagrangians depending on the electromagnetic invariant $F_{ab}F^{ab}$ only. We extend Bronnikov's results by taking into account Lagrangians that depend on both electromagnetic invariants, $F_{ab}F^{ab}$ and $F_{ab}\,{\star F^{ab}}$, and prove that the tension between the Lagrangian's Maxwellian weak field limit and boundedness of the curvature invariants persists in more general class of theories.

Arrival time from the general theory of quantum time distributions

We further develop the general theory of quantum time distributions introduced in arXiv:2010.07575 and apply it to find the distribution of arrival times at the detector. Even though the Hamiltonian in the absence of detector is hermitian, the time evolution of the system before detection involves dealing with a non-hermitian operator obtained from the projection of the hermitian Hamiltonian onto the region in front of the detector. Such a formalism eventually gives rise to a simple and physically sensible analytical expression for the arrival time distribution, for arbitrary wave packet moving in one spatial dimension with negligible distortion.

Observables in Quantum Mechanics and the Importance of Self-adjointness

We are focused on the idea that observables in quantum physics are a bit more than just hermitian operators and that this is, in general, a "tricky business". The origin of this idea comes from the fact that there is a subtle difference between symmetric, hermitian, and self-adjoint operators which are of immense importance in formulating Quantum Mechanics. The theory of self-adjoint extensions is presented through several physical examples and some emphasis is given on the physical implications and applications.

Nonlinear electromagnetic fields in strictly stationary spacetimes

We prove two theorems which imply that any stationary nonlinear electromagnetic field obeying a dominant energy condition in a strictly stationary, everywhere regular, asymptotically flat spacetime must be either trivial or a stealth field. The first theorem holds in static spacetimes and is independent of the gravitational part of the action, as long as the coupling of the electromagnetic field to the gravitational field is minimal. The second theorem assumes Einstein--Hilbert gravitational action and relies on the positive energy theorem, but does not assume that the spacetime metric is static. In addition, we discuss possible generalizations of these results, to theories with charged matter, as well as higher-dimensional nonlinear electromagnetic fields.

Black hole thermodynamics in the presence of nonlinear electromagnetic fields

As the interaction between the black holes and highly energetic infalling charged matter receives quantum corrections, the basic laws of black hole mechanics have to be carefully rederived. Using the covariant phase space formalism, we generalize the first law of black hole mechanics, both "equilibrium state" and "physical process" versions, in the presence of nonlinear electrodynamics fields, defined by Lagrangians depending on both quadratic electromagnetic invariants, $F_{ab}F^{ab}$ and $F_{ab}\,{\star F}^{ab}$. Derivation of this law demands a specific treatment of the Lagrangian parameters, similar to embedding of the cosmological constant into thermodynamic context. Furthermore, we discuss the validity of energy conditions, several complementing proofs of the zeroth law of black hole electrodynamics and some aspects of the recently generalized Smarr formula, its (non-)linearity and relation to the first law.

Noncommutativity and the Weak Cosmic Censorship

We show that a noncommutative massless scalar probe can dress a naked singularity in $AdS_3$ spacetime, consistent with the weak cosmic censorship. The dressing occurs at high energies, which is typical at the Planck scale. Using a noncommutative duality, we show that the dressed singularity has the geometry of a rotating BTZ black hole which satisfies all the laws of black hole thermodynamics. We calculate the entropy and the quasi-normal modes of the dressed singularity and show that the corresponding spacetime can be quantum mechanically complete. The noncommutative duality also gives rise to a light scalar, which can be relevant for early universe cosmology.

Quantum space and quantum completeness

Motivated by the question whether quantum gravity can "smear out" the classical singularity we analyze a certain quantum space and its quantum-mechanical completeness. Classical singularity is understood as a geodesic incompleteness, while quantum completeness requires a unique unitary time evolution for test fields propagating on an underlying background. Here the crucial point is that quantum completeness renders the Hamiltonian (or spatial part of the wave operator) to be essentially self-adjoint in order to generate a unique time evolution. We examine a model of quantum space which consists of a noncommutative BTZ black hole probed by a test scalar field. We show that the quantum gravity (noncommutative) effect is to enlarge the domain of BTZ parameters for which the relevant wave operator is essentially self-adjoint. This means that the corresponding quantum space is quantum complete for a larger range of BTZ parameters rendering the conclusion that in the quantum space one observes the effect of "smearing out" the singularity.

Involutive representations of coordinate algebras and quantum spaces

We show that $\frak{su}(2)$ Lie algebras of coordinate operators related to quantum spaces with $\frak{su}(2)$ noncommutativity can be conveniently represented by $SO(3)$-covariant poly-differential involutive representations. We show that the quantized plane waves obtained from the quantization map action on the usual exponential functions are determined by polar decomposition of operators combined with constraint stemming from the Wigner theorem for $SU(2)$. Selecting a subfamily of $^*$-representations, we show that the resulting star-product is equivalent to the Kontsevich product for the Poisson manifold dual to the finite dimensional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{su}(2)$. We discuss the results, indicating a way to extend the construction to any semi-simple non simply connected Lie group and present noncommutative scalar field theories which are free from perturbative UV/IR mixing.

Noncommutative duality and fermionic quasinormal modes of the BTZ black hole

We analyze the fermionic quasinormal modes of the BTZ black hole in the presence of space-time noncommutativity. Our analysis exploits a duality between a spinless and spinning BTZ black hole, the spin being proportional to the noncommutative deformation parameter. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we show that the horizon temperatures obtained from the dual CFT pick up noncommutative contributions. We demonstrate the equivalence between the quasinormal and non-quasinormal modes for the noncommutative fermionic probes, which provides further evidence of holography in the noncommutative setting. Finally we present an analysis of the emission of Dirac fermions and the corresponding tunneling amplitude within this noncommutative framework.

Closed star product on noncommutative $\mathbb{R}^3$ and scalar field dynamics

We consider the noncommutative space $\mathbb{R}^3_θ$, a deformation of $\mathbb{R}^3$ for which the star product is closed for the trace functional. We study one-loop IR and UV properties of the 2-point function for real and complex noncommutative scalar field theories with quartic interactions and Laplacian on $\mathbb{R}^3$ as kinetic operator. We find that the 2-point functions for these noncommutative scalar field theories have no IR singularities in the external momenta, indicating the absence of UV/IR mixing. We also find that the 2-point functions are UV finite with the deformation parameter $θ$ playing the role of a natural UV cut-off. The possible origin of the absence of UV/IR mixing in noncommutative scalar field theories on $\mathbb{R}^3_θ$ as well as on $\mathbb{R}^3_λ$, another deformation of $\mathbb{R}^3$, is discussed.

Entanglement Entropy Renormalization for the NC scalar field coupled to classical BTZ geometry

In this work, we consider a noncommutative (NC) massless scalar field coupled to the classical nonrotational BTZ geometry. In a manner of the theories where the gravity emerges from the underlying scalar field theory, we study the effective action and the entropy derived from this noncommutative model. In particular, the entropy is calculated by making use of the two different approaches, the brick wall method and the heat kernel method designed for spaces with conical singularity. We show that the UV divergent structures of the entropy, obtained through these two different methods, agree with each other. It is also shown that the same renormalization condition that removes the infinities from the effective action can also be used to renormalize the entanglement entropy for the same system. Besides, the interesting feature of the NC model considered here is that it allows an interpretation in terms of an equivalent system comprising of a commutative massive scalar field, but in a modified geometry; that of the rotational BTZ black hole, the result that hints at a duality between the commutative and noncommutative systems in the background of a BTZ black hole.

Twist deformations leading to kappa-Poincare Hopf algebra and their application to physics

We consider two twist operators that lead to kappa-Poincare Hopf algebra, the first being an Abelian one and the second corresponding to a light-like kappa-deformation of Poincare algebra. The advantage of the second one is that it is expressed solely in terms of Poincare generators. In contrast to this, the Abelian twist goes out of the boundaries of Poincare algebra and runs into envelope of the general linear algebra. Some of the physical applications of these two different twist operators are considered. In particular, we use the Abelian twist to construct the statistics flip operator compatible with the action of deformed symmetry group. Furthermore, we use the light-like twist operator to define a star product and subsequently to formulate a free scalar field theory compatible with kappa-Poincare Hopf algebra and appropriate for considering the interacting phi^4 scalar field model on kappa-deformed space.

Noncommutative scalar quasinormal modes and quantization of entropy of a BTZ black hole

We obtain an exact analytic expression for the quasinormal modes of a noncommutative massless scalar field in the background of a massive spinless BTZ black hole up to the first order in the deformation parameter. We also show that the equations of motion governing these quasinormal modes are identical in form to the equations of motion of a commutative massive scalar field in the background of a fictitious massive spinning BTZ black hole. This results hints at a duality between the commutative and noncommutative systems in the background of a BTZ black hole. Using the obtained results for quasinormal mode frequencies, the area and entropy spectra for the BTZ black hole in the presence of noncommutativity are calculated. In particular, the separations between the neighboring values of these spectra are determined and it is found that they are nonuniform. Therefore, it appears that the noncommutativity leads to a non-equispaced (discrete) area and entropy spectra.

Noncommutative gauge theories on $\mathbb{R}^3_λ$: Perturbatively finite models

We show that natural noncommutative gauge theory models on $\mathbb{R}^3_λ$ can accommodate gauge invariant harmonic terms, thanks to the existence of a relationship between the center of $\mathbb{R}^3_λ$ and the components of the gauge invariant 1-form canonical connection. This latter object shows up naturally within the present noncommutative differential calculus. Restricting ourselves to positive actions with covariant coordinates as field variables, a suitable gauge-fixing leads to a family of matrix models with quartic interactions and kinetic operators with compact resolvent. Their perturbative behavior is then studied. We first compute the 2-point and 4-point functions at the one-loop order within a subfamily of these matrix models for which the interactions have a symmetric form. We find that the corresponding contributions are finite. We then extend this result to arbitrary order. We find that the amplitudes of the ribbon diagrams for the models of this subfamily are finite to all orders in perturbation. This result extends finally to any of the models of the whole family of matrix models obtained from the above gauge-fixing. The origin of this result is discussed. Finally, the existence of a particular model related to integrable hierarchies is indicated, for which the partition function is expressible as a product of ratios of determinants.

Light-like $κ$-deformations and scalar field theory via Drinfeld twist

In this article we will use the Drinfeld twist leading to light-like $κ$-deformations of Poincaré algebra. We shall apply the standard Hopf algebra methods in order to define the star-product, which shall be used to formulate a scalar field theory compatible with $κ$-Poincaré-Hopf algebra. Using this approach we show that there is no problem with formulating integration on $κ$-Minkowski space and no need for introducing a new measure. We have shown that the $\star$-product obtained from this twist enables us to define a free scalar field theory on $κ$-Minkowski space that is equivalent to a commutative one on a usual Minkowski space. We also discuss the interacting $ϕ^4$ scalar field model compatible with $κ$-Poincaré-Hopf algebra.
