R-parity violating supersymmetric contributions to the neutron beta decay

We investigate the contribution to the angular correlation coefficients of the neutron beta decay within the R-parity violating (RPV) minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The RPV effects contribute to the scalar interaction at the tree level. The effective scalar interaction of the neutron beta decay is constructed by making use of the relation between isospin asymmetries and the proton-neutron mass difference. On the basis of the recent update of the analyses of the superallowed Fermi transitions and the recent measurement of transverse polarization of the emitted electrons at PSI, we deduce new upper limits on the RPV couplings. We also point out the existence of new types of angular correlations which are sensitive to the RPV interactions.

Left-Right Asymmetric Holographic RG Flow with Gravitational Chern-Simons Term

We consider the holographic renormalization group (RG) flow in three dimensional gravity with the gravitational Chern-Simons term coupled to some scalar fields. We apply the canonical approach to this higher derivative case and employ the Hamilton-Jacobi formalism to analyze the flow equations of two dimensional field theory. Especially we obtain flow equations of Weyl and gravitational anomalies, and derive $c$-functions for left and right moving modes. Both of them are monotonically non-increasing along the flow, and the difference between them is determined by the coefficient of the gravitational Chern-Simons term. This is completely consistent with the Zamolodchikov's $c$-theorem for parity-violating two-dimensional quantum field theories.

Brown-Henneaux's Canonical Approach to Topologically Massive Gravity

We analyze the symmetry realized asymptotically on the two dimensional boundary of AdS_3 geometry in topologically massive gravity, which consists of the gravitational Chern-Simons term as well as the usual Einstein-Hilbert and negative cosmological constant terms. Our analysis is based on the conventional canonical method and proceeds along the line completely parallel to the original Brown and Henneaux's. In spite of the presence of the gravitational Chern-Simons term, it is confirmed by the canonical method that the boundary theory actually has the conformal symmetry satisfying the left and right moving Virasoro algebras. The central charges of the Virasoro algebras are computed explicitly and are shown to be left-right asymmetric due to the gravitational Chern-Simons term. It is also argued that the Cardy's formula for the BTZ black hole entropy capturing all higher derivative corrections agrees with the extended version of the Wald's entropy formula. The M5-brane system is illustrated as an application of the present calculation.

Empirically Consistent Electroweak Radiative Corrections with the Two-Higgs Doublet Model

The electroweak radiative correction, which turned out to be marginal within the standard electroweak model having the minimal Higgs sector in view of the present experimental information, fits well the experiment when the Higgs sector is extended to have two Higgs doublets. We predict the range where the charged and CP odd Higgs boson masses would lie, taking the two CP even neutral Higgs boson masses to be degenerate which makes the analysis in multiparameter space feasible. It is shown that the mass of neutral Higgs doublet boson can arbitrarily be large consistently with the $W$ mass, if the charged Higgs boson is present and it's mass lies in some appropriate ranges.

Exact Solutions and the Attractor Mechanism in Non-BPS Black Holes

The attractor mechanism for the four-dimensional ${\cal N}=2$ supergravity black hole solution is analyzed in the case of the D0-D4 system. Our analyses are based on newly derived exact solutions, which exhibit explicitly the attractor mechanism for extremal non-BPS black holes. Our solutions account for the moduli as general complex fields, while in almost all non-BPS solutions obtained previously, the moduli fields are restricted to be purely imaginary. It is also pointed out that our moduli solutions contain an extra parameter that is not contained in solutions obtained by replacing the charges in the double extremal moduli solutions by the corresponding harmonic functions.

Comment on ``Improved Calculation of Electroweak Radiative Corrections and the Value of $V_{ud}$ by Marciano and Sirlin''

In a recent letter Marciano and Sirlin (Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 032002, (2006)) presented an improved calculation of the electroweak radiative correction to derive a precision value of the quark mixing angle $V_{ud}$ by improving the continuation from long to short distance contributions. At the precision level considered by them, however, there is a more important contribution from weak magnetism that was not included by their calculation. The addition of the weak magnetism contribution to the superallowed beta-decay radiative corrections lowers $V_{ud}$ by 0.00023, which is compared with the increase 0.00007 of Marciano and Sirlin and their error estimate $\pm 0.0002$.

Radiative Corrections to Low-Energy Neutrino-Deuteron Reactions Revisited

The one-loop QED and electroweak radiative corrections to neutrino-deuteron scattering induced by the neutral current are reexamined, paying a particular attention to the constant term which has never been treated properly in literature. This problem is closely related to the definition of the axial-vector coupling constant $g_{A}$ and requires thorough calculations of the constant terms in the charged current processes, too. We find that the radiative corrections to the neutral current induced reactions amount to 1.7 (1.5) per cent enhancement, if the Higgs boson mass is $m_{H}=1.5 \: m_{Z} (m_{H}=5.0 \: m_{Z})$ This number happens to be close to that given by Kurylov et al., but we argue that this is accidental.

Radiative Corrections to the Neutrino-Deuteron Reactions

The $O(α)$ QED and electroweak radiative corrections to neutrino deuteron reactions is investigated with particular emphasis given to the constant terms, which have not been treated properly in the literature. This problem is related to the definition of the axial-vector coupling constant $g_{A}$ as to the inclusion of radiative corrections. After proper calculations of the constants for the Fermi and Gamow-Teller transitions, we find the radiative correction to the neutral current induced reaction, with the usually adopted definition of $g_{A}$, is 1.017 for the Higgs boson mass $m_{H}=1.5 m_{Z}$. This value is close to that given by Kurylov et al., but this is due to an accidental cancellation of the errors, between those caused by putative identification of constant terms for the Fermi and Gamow-Teller transitions for the charged current reactions and minor errors in their treatment of the constant terms for the neutral current induced reactions.

Full One-Loop Radiative Corrections to the Asymmetry Parameter of Polarised Neutron Beta Decay

We present a calculation of full one-loop radiative corrections, including the constant term, to the asymmetry parameter of polarised neutron beta decay. This gives the radiative correction to the axial coupling constant $g_A$ extracted from the beta asymmetry so that it ties to $g_A$ that appears in neutron decay lifetime in a consistent renormalisation scheme. We find that the ratio of axial-vector to vector couplings determined from the beta asymmetry, after taking account of the outer radiative correction, is related to the bare value as $G_A/G_V=1.0012 G_A^0/G_V^0$.

Extension to the Super-Weyl-K{\" a}hler Symmetry in Anomaly Mediation

Anomaly mediation mechanism of supersymmetry breaking is known to have an unsatisfactory aspect which is often referred to as the tachyonic slepton problem. A possible way out of this difficulty is investigated by considering the mediation mechanism not only of the super-Weyl but of K{\" a}hler part of anomaly. A new formula for the scalar mass squared is presented by including the effect of the K{\" a}hler anomaly. On the basis of the new formulae, the gauge non-singlet scalar mass squared is shown to be positive provided that the superpotential in the hidden sector satisfies a certain condition. The gauge singlet scalar mass squared may also be positive if we consider the threshold correction.

Radiative Corrections to Neutrino-Nucleon Quasielastic Scattering

Full one-loop radiative corrections are calculated for low energy neutrino-nucleon quasi-elastic scattering, $\bar ν_{e}+p \longrightarrow e^{+} + n$, which involves both Fermi and Gamow-Teller transitions, in the static limit of nucleons. The calculation is performed for both angular independent and dependent parts. We separate the corrections into the outer and inner parts {\` a} la Sirlin. The outer part is infrared and ultraviolet finite, and involves the positron velocity. The calculation of the outer part is straightforward, but that of the inner part requires a scrutiny concerning the continuation of the long-distance hadronic calculation to the short-distance quark treatment and the dependence on the model of hadron structure. We show that the logarithmically divergent parts do not depend on the structure of hadrons not only for the Fermi part, but also for the Gamow-Teller part. This observation enables us to deal with the inner part for the Gamow-Teller transition nearly parallel to that for the Fermi transition. The inner part is universal to weak charged-current processes and can be absorbed into the modification of the coupling constants up to the order of the inverse proton mass $O(1/m_{p})$. The resulting $O(α)$ corrections to the differential cross section take the form $ [1+δ_{\rm out}(E)] [ (1+δ_{\rm in}^{\rm F}) < 1 >^2 +g_A^2 (1+δ_{\rm in}^{\rm GT}) < {\mib σ} >^2]$, where $<1 >$ and $<{\mib σ}>$ stand for the Fermi and Gamow-Teller matrix elements; the outer correction $δ_{\rm out}$ is positron energy ($E$) dependent and takes different functional forms for the angular independent and dependent parts. All factors are explicitly evaluated.

Wheeler-DeWitt Equation in AdS/CFT Correspondence

We discuss a quantum extension of the holographic RG flow equation obtained previously from the classical Hamiltonian constraint in the bulk AdS supergravity. The Wheeler-DeWitt equation is proposed to generate the extended RG flow and to produce 1/N subleading corrections systematically. Our formulation in five dimensions is applied to the derivation of the Weyl anomaly of boundary N=4 SU(N) super-Yang-Mills theory beyond the large N limit. It is shown that subleading 1/N^2 corrections arising from fields in AdS_5 supergravity agree with those obtained recently by Mansfield et al. using their Schroedinger equation, thereby guaranteeing to reproduce the exact form of the boundary Weyl anomaly after summing up all of the KK modes.

New Derivation of Anomaly-Mediated Gaugino Mass in the Higher Derivative Regularization Method

The technique of higher derivative regularization is applied to the Super-Weyl-Kahler anomaly in supergravity coupled with chiral matters and gauge multiplet. Our method makes it possible to derive directly and diagrammatically the formulae for the gaugino mass (in the Abelian case). Our procedure is applied to derivation of not only the mass formulae known in the anomaly mediation scenario, but also additional terms that depend on the Kahler potential.

Cosmic Solutions in the Einstein-Weinberg-Salam Theory and the Generation of Large Electric and Magnetic Fields

In the SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y standard electroweak theory coupled with the Einstein gravity, new topological configurations naturally emerge, if the spatial section of the universe is globally a three-sphere (S^3) with a small radius. The SU(2)_L gauge fields wrap the space nontrivially, producing homogeneous but anisotropic space. As the universe expands, large electric and magnetic fields are produced. The electromagnetic field configuration is characterized by the Hopf map.

Maximally symmetric D-branes in gauged WZW models

Gluing conditions are proposed to characterize the D-branes in gauged WZW models. From them the boundary conditions for the group-valued and the subgroup-valued fields are determined. We construct a gauged WZW action for open strings that coincides classically with those written previously, when the gluing conditions are imposed.

Cosmology in the Einstein-Electroweak Theory and Magnetic Fields

In the SU(2)_{L} x U(1)_{Y} standard electroweak theory coupled with the Einstein gravity, new topological configurations naturally emerge, if the spatial section of the universe is globally a three-sphere(S^3) with a small radius. The SU(2)_L gauge fields and Higgs fields wrap the space nontrivially, residing at or near a local minimum of the potential. As the universe expands, however, the shape of the potential rapidly changes and the local minimum eventually disappears. The fields then start to roll down towards the absolute minimum. In the absence of the U(1)_Y gauge interaction the resulting space is a homogeneous and isotropic S^3, but the U(1)_Y gauge interaction necessarily induces anisotropy while preserving the homogeneity of the space. Large magnetic fields are generically produced over a substantial period of the rolling-over transition. The magnetic field configuration is characterized by the Hopf map.

RR charges of D2-branes in group manifold and Hanany-Witten effect

By exploiting the correspondence between the Cardy boundary state in SU(2) group manifold and the BPS D3-brane configuration in the full asymptotically flat geometry of NS5-branes, we show that the Hanany-Witten effect in 10D background is encoded in the Cardy boundary states. The two RR Page D0 charges of the $n$-th spherical D2-brane due to the contraction to $e$ or ($-e$) is interpreted, and attributed to the Hanany-Witten effect.

Asymptotic Symmetry and the General Black Hole Solution in Ads_3 Gravity

We describe the Brown-Henneaux asymptotic symmetry of the general black holes in the Chern-Simons gauge theory of the gauge group $SL(2;{\bf R})_L\times SL(2;{\bf R})_R$. We make it clear that the vector-like subgroup $SL(2; {\bf R})_{L+R}$ plays an essential role in describing the asymptotic symmetry consistently. We find a quite general black hole solution in the $AdS_3$ gravity theory. The solution is specified by an infinite number of conserved quantities which constitute a family of mapping from $S^1$ to the gauge group. The BTZ black hole is one of the simplest case.
