Parameterized Families of Toric Code Phase: $em$-duality family and higher-order anyon pumping

Within the toric-code phase, we study parameterized families of topologically ordered states. We construct $1$- and $2$-parameter families of local Hamiltonians and confirm their non-triviality via topological pumping. For the $1$-parameter family, we show that the $em$-exchange defect is pumped into the bond Hilbert space of a tensor-network representation. For the $2$-parameter case, we construct a ``pump of a pump'' that transports an $S^1$-family of a system in one lower spatial dimension. Using similar methods, we also present a $1$-parameter family with a higher-order anyon pump that produces corner-localized anyon modes. These constructions provide explicit lattice realizations and concrete diagnostics of family-level topology. We use recently developed boundary algebra methods to study the non-triviality of these families.

Self-$G$-ality in 1+1 dimensions

We explore topological manipulations in one spatial dimension, which are defined for a system with a global symmetry and map the system to another one with a dual symmetry. In particular, we discuss fusion category symmetries enhanced by the invariance of the actions of topological manipulations, i.e., self-$G$-alities for topological manipulations. Based on the self-$G$-ality conditions, we provide LSM-type constraints on the ground states of many-body Hamiltonians. We clarify the relationship between different enhanced symmetries and how they are further enhanced when they meet. We explore concrete lattice models for such self-$G$-alities and identify how the self-$G$-ality structures match the IR critical theories.

Symmetry Spans and Enforced Gaplessness

Anomaly matching for continuous symmetries has been the primary tool for establishing symmetry enforced gaplessness - the phenomenon where global symmetry alone forces a quantum system to be gapless in the infrared. We introduce a new mechanism based on symmetry spans: configurations in which a global symmetry $\mathcal{E}$ is simultaneously embedded into two larger symmetries, as $\mathcal{D}\hookleftarrow\mathcal{E}\hookrightarrow\mathcal{C}$. Any gapped phase with the full symmetry must, upon restriction to $\mathcal{E}$, arise as the restriction of both a gapped $\mathcal{C}$-symmetric phase and a gapped $\mathcal{D}$-symmetric phase. When no such compatible phase exists, gaplessness is enforced. This mechanism can operate with only discrete and non-anomalous continuous symmetries in the UV, both of which admit well-understood lattice realizations. We construct explicit symmetry spans enforcing gaplessness in 1+1 dimensions, exhibit their realization in conformal field theories, and provide lattice Hamiltonians with the relevant symmetry embeddings.

Gauge theory and mixed state criticality

In mixed quantum states, the notion of symmetry is divided into two types: strong and weak symmetry. While spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) for a weak symmetry is detected by two-point correlation functions, SSB for a strong symmetry is characterized by the Renyi-2 correlators. In this work, we present a way to construct various SSB phases for strong symmetries, starting from the ground state phase diagram of lattice gauge theory models. In addition to introducing a new type of mixed-state topological phases, we provide models of the criticalities between them, including those with gapless symmetry-protected topological order. We clarify that the ground states of lattice gauge theories are purified states of the corresponding mixed SSB states. Our construction can be applied to any finite gauge theory and offers a framework to study quantum operations between mixed quantum phases.

Gauging on the lattice and gapped/gapless topological phases

In this work, we explore topological phases of matter obtained by effectively gauging or fermionizing a system, where the Gauss law constraint is only enforced energetically. In contrast to conventional gauging or fermionization, the symmetry that is effectively gauged at low energies still generates a global symmetry that acts on the whole Hilbert space faithfully. This symmetry turns out to protect a nontrivial topological phase together with other symmetries, or it can carry a nontrivial emergent 't Hooft anomaly. We provide a precise formula for the topological response action involving these symmetries in a general setup, as well as a formula for 't Hooft anomalies. As an application, we apply the general treatment of the procedure to gapless systems and find various new gapless SPT phases, such as the one carrying the Gu-Wen fermionic anomalies at low energy.

Cell image segmentation by Feature Random Enhancement Module

It is important to extract good features using an encoder to realize semantic segmentation with high accuracy. Although loss function is optimized in training deep neural network, far layers from the layers for computing loss function are difficult to train. Skip connection is effective for this problem but there are still far layers from the loss function. In this paper, we propose the Feature Random Enhancement Module which enhances the features randomly in only training. By emphasizing the features at far layers from loss function, we can train those layers well and the accuracy was improved. In experiments, we evaluated the proposed module on two kinds of cell image datasets, and our module improved the segmentation accuracy without increasing computational cost in test phase.
