Lorentzian homogeneous Ricci-flat metrics on almost abelian Lie groups

When the identity component of the full isometry group of a four-dimensional spacetime acts simply transitively, the unique Ricci-flat metric is the Petrov solution. This isometry group is almost abelian; that is, its Lie algebra contains an abelian ideal of codimension one. In this paper, we study Lorentzian left-invariant metrics on almost abelian Lie groups of dimension four or higher. In particular, we construct a Ricci-flat but non-flat metric that generalizes the Petrov solution to arbitrarily high dimensions. The generalized solution is geodesically complete and admits closed timelike curves. The construction of the closed timelike curves is new even in the four-dimensional Petrov solution, as it requires no identification of coordinates.

Renormalization Group Running of the Minimal Leptophilic Dark Matter Model toward a UV Completion

We study the renormalization group running of the coupling constants in a minimal leptophilic dark matter model in which a Standard Model singlet fermion, acting as the dark matter (DM) candidate, couples exclusively to right-handed charged leptons via a new charged scalar mediator. Reproduction of the observed thermal relic abundance of the DM candidate requires sizable Yukawa couplings, and such sizable Yukawa couplings can significantly affect the renormalization group evolution of the model parameters. We examine the conditions that the model remains perturbative and the vacuum stability is maintained up to high-energy scales. We find that the parameter space is severely constrained to ensure the perturbativity and the vacuum stability up to the Planck scale. In particular, the masses of the dark matter and the charged scalar mediator should be smaller than about 350 GeV and can be tested by future collider experiments. The lower bound of the dark matter mass that is larger than a few GeV is also obtained by perturbativity.

Spatially homogeneous solutions of vacuum Einstein equations in general dimensions

We study time-dependent compactification of extra dimensions. We assume that the spacetime is spatially homogeneous, and solve the vacuum Einstein equations without cosmological constant in more than three dimensions. We consider globally hyperbolic spacetimes in which almost Abelian Lie groups act on the spaces isometrically and simply transitively. We give left-invariant metrics on the spaces and solve Ricci-flat conditions of the spacetimes. In the four-dimensional case, our solutions correspond to the Bianchi type II solution. By our results and previous studies, all spatially homogeneous solutions whose spaces have zero-dimensional moduli spaces of left-invariant metrics are found. For the simplest solution, we show that each of the spatial dimensions cannot expand or contract simultaneously in the late-time it.

Low-scale leptogenesis and dark matter in a three-loop radiative seesaw model

We show that three open questions in particle physics and cosmology: the origin of neutrino mass, the identity of dark matter, and the origin of the baryon asymmetry of the universe can be explained simultaneously in the three-loop seesaw model proposed by Krauss, Nasri, and Trodden. We discuss the difficulty of successful leptogenesis with three right-handed neutrinos, and we propose a scenario with four right-handed neutrinos that satisfies all observational constraints. This scenario predicts a sleptonlike particle as light as a few hundreds GeV that can be probed by future collider experiments.

Three-generation solutions of equations of motion in heterotic supergravity

We study the generation number of massless fermions in compactifications recently found in heterotic supergravity. The internal spaces are products of two-dimensional spaces of constant curvature, and the standard embedding is not assumed. The generation number is constrained by the equations of motion and the Bianchi identity. In the case that the Euler characteristics of the three internal submanifolds are $(2,-2,-2)$, the generation number is three or less. We also show that three-generation solutions exist for arbitrary Euler characteristics of the negatively curved 2-manifolds, and we present some explicit solutions.

Lower bounds on lepton flavor violating branching ratios in a radiative seesaw model

We study the lepton flavor violating decays such as $μ\to eγ$, $τ\to eγ$, $τ\to μγ$ in the three-loop radiative seesaw model proposed by Krauss, Nasri, and Trodden. In this model, the relevant coupling constants are larger for the heavier scalars that run inside loop diagrams to generate the appropriate magnitude of neutrino masses. Imposing a criterion that all the coupling constants must be small enough to be treated perturbatively, we find an upper bound on the mass of one of the scalars. By combining it with neutrino mass parameters, we derive lower bounds on the branching ratios of the lepton flavor violating processes. In a case with the inverted mass ordering and best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters, one of the lower bounds is $\text{Br}(μ\to eγ)>1.1\times 10^{-13}$, which is within the reach of the MEG~II experiment.

Minkowski spacetime and non-Ricci-flat compactification in heterotic supergravity

We compactify the ten-dimensional spacetime in heterotic supergravity leaving four-dimensional Minkowski spacetime. We search for nonsupersymmetric, non-Ricci-flat solutions of the equations of motion with the quadratic curvature term. By assuming that the extradimensional spaces are products of 2-manifolds, three types of solutions are found. They are $S^2\times T^2 \times H^2/Γ$, $S^2\times H^2/Γ\times H^2/Γ$, and $S^2\times S^2 \times H^2/Γ$, where $H^2/Γ$ denotes a compact hyperbolic manifold. The metrics can be written explicitly, and they can be applied to phenomenology.

Seesaw mechanism at electron-electron colliders

We consider the Standard Model with right-handed neutrinos to explain the masses of active neutrinos by the seesaw mechanism. Since active neutrinos as well as heavy neutral leptons are Majorana fermions in this case, the lepton number violating process can be induced. We discuss the inverse neutrinoless double beta decay $e^- e^- \to W^- W^-$ in the framework of the seesaw mechanism and its detectability at future colliders. It is shown that the cross section can be 17 fb for $\sqrt{s}=3$ TeV even with the stringent constraint from the neutrinoless double beta decays if three (or more) right-handed neutrinos exist. In such a case, the future $e^- e^-$ colliders can test lepton number violation mediated by a right-handed neutrino lighter than about 10 TeV.

Perturbativity in the seesaw mechanism

We consider the Standard Model extended by right-handed neutrinos to explain massive neutrinos through the seesaw mechanism. The new fermion can be observed when it has a sufficiently small mass and large mixings to left-handed neutrinos. If such a particle is the lightest right-handed neutrino, its contribution to the mass matrix of active neutrinos needs to be canceled by that of a heavier one. Yukawa couplings of the heavier one are then larger than those of the lightest one. We show that the perturbativity condition gives a severe upper bound on the mixing of the lightest right-handed neutrino, depending on the masses of heavier ones. Models of high energy phenomena, such as leptogenesis, can be constrained by low energy experiments.

Renormalization group invariant of lepton Yukawa couplings

By using quark Yukawa matrices only, we can construct renormalization invariants that are exact at the one-loop level in the standard model. One of them $I^q$ is accidentally consistent with unity, even though quark masses are strongly hierarchical. We calculate a lepton version of the invariant $I^l$ for Dirac and Majorana neutrino cases and find that $I^l$ can also be close to unity. For the Dirac neutrino and inverted hierarchy case, if the lightest neutrino mass is 3.0 meV to 8.8 meV, an equality $I^q=I^l$ can be satisfied. These invariants are not changed even if new particles couple to the standard model particles, as long as those couplings are generation independent.

Bottom-tau unification by neutrinos in a nonsupersymmetric SU(5) model

We show that Yukawa couplings of bottom quarks and tau leptons can be unified in a non-supersymmetric SU(5) model. We introduce an arbitrary number of right-handed neutrinos. Their masses and Yukawa couplings that satisfy the unification condition by renormalization group evolution are shown. In the case that the grand unification scale is $10^{15.5}$GeV and three right-handed neutrinos have the same mass, the upper bound on their mass is $\sim 10^{14.1}$GeV.

Neutrino masses, leptogenesis, and sterile neutrino dark matter

We analyze a scenario in which the lightest heavy neutrino $N_1$ is a dark matter candidate and the second- heaviest neutrino $N_2$ decays producing a lepton number. If $N_1$ were in thermal equilibrium, its energy density today would be much larger than that of the observed dark matter, so we consider energy injection by the decay of $N_2$. In this paper, we show the parameters of this scenario that give the correct abundances of dark matter and baryonic matter and also induce the observed neutrino masses. This model can explain a possible sterile neutrino dark matter signal of $M_1$=7 keV in the x-ray observation of x-ray multi-mirror mission.
