A New Overture to Classical Simple Type Theory, Ketonen-type Gentzen and Tableau Systems

In this paper, we introduce a Ketonen-type Gentzen-style classical simple type theory $\bf KCT$. Also the tableau system $\bf KCTT$ corresponding to $\bf KCT$ is introduced. Further inference-preserving Gentzen system $\bf KCT_h$ (equivalent to $\bf KCT$) and tableau system $\bf KCTT_h$ (equivalent to $\bf KCTT$) is introduced. We introduce the notion of Hintikka sequents for $\bf KCTT_h$.The completeness theorem and Takahashi-Prawitz's theorem are proved for $\bf KCTT_h$.

Nontrivial single axiom schemata and their quasi-nontriviality of Leśniewski-Ishimoto's propositional ontology $\bf L_1$

On March 8, 1995, was found the following \it nontrivial \rm single axiom-schema characteristic of Leśniewski-Ishimoto's propositional ontology $\bf L_1$ (Inoué, 1995b \cite{inoue16}). $$(\mathrm{A_{M8})} \enspace εab \wedge εcd . \supset . εaa \wedge εcc \wedge (εbc \supset . εad \wedge εba).$$ In this paper, we shall present the progress about the above axiom-schema from 1995. Here we shall give two criteria \it nontiriviality \rm and \it quasi-nontriviality \rm in order to distinguish two axiom schemata. As main results, among others, in §6 - §8, we shall give the simplified axiom schemata ($\rm A_{S1}$), ($\rm A_{S2}$), ($\rm A_{S3N}$) and ($\rm A_{S3Nd}$) based on ($\mathrm{A_{M8}}$), their nontriviality and quasi-nontriviality. In §9 - §11, we shall give a lot of conjectures for nontrivial single axiom schemata for $\bf L_1$. We shall conclude this paper with summary and some remarks in §12.

On humanization of mathematics: aesthetic mathematics

This paper examines various methods and ideas for humanizing mathematics. The term 'humanizing mathematics' which includes elements of 'aesthetic mathematics' refers to approaches that emphasize the aesthetic, philosophical, and subjective dimensions of mathematics. These approaches aim to make mathematics humanize. It proposes novel directions in mathematics, stressing that the ideas presented here are provisional. Furthermore, it argues that mathematics can take multiple humanized forms. Even traditional mathematics can be interpreted as a form of humanized mathematics. To support this perspective, several mathematical observations are provided. Additionally, a general approach to addressing the Riemann Hypothesis, focusing on proof by contradiction and mathematical logic, particularly model theory, is outlined. The paper also briefly reflects on my prior research through this idea on humanization and concludes with general remarks and future directions.

Epistemic systems and Flagg and Friedman's translation

In 1986, Flagg and Friedman \cite{ff} gave an elegant alternative proof of the faithfulness of Gödel (or Rasiowa-Sikorski) translation $(\cdot)^\Box$ of Heyting arithmetic $\bf HA$ to Shapiro's epistemic arithmetic $\bf EA$. In §2, we shall prove the faithfulness of $(\cdot)^\Box$ without using stability, by introducing another translation from an epistemic system to corresponding intuitionistic system which we shall call \it the modified Rasiowa-Sikorski translation\rm . That is, this introduction of the new translation simplifies the original Flagg and Friedman's proof. In §3, we shall give some applications of the modified one for the disjunction property ($\mathsf{DP}$) and the numerical existence property ($\mathsf{NEP}$) of Heyting arithmetic. In §4, we shall show that epistemic Markov's rule $\mathsf{EMR}$ in $\bf EA$ is proved via $\bf HA$. So $\bf EA$ $\vdash \mathsf{EMR}$ and $\bf HA$ $\vdash \mathsf{MR}$ are equivalent. In §5, we shall give some relations among the translations treated in the previous sections. In §6, we shall give an alternative proof of Glivenko's theorem. In §7, we shall propose several(modal-)epistemic versions of Markov's rule for Horsten's modal-epistemic arithmetic $\bf MEA$. And, as in §4, we shall study some meta-implications among those versions of Markov's rules in $\bf MEA$ and one in $\bf HA$. Friedman and Sheard gave a modal analogue $\mathsf{FS}$ (i.e. Theorem in \cite{fs}) of Friedman's theorem $\mathsf{F}$ (i.e. Theorem 1 in \cite {friedman}): \it Any recursively enumerable extension of $\bf HA$ which has $\mathsf{DP}$ also has $\mathsf{NPE}$\rm . In §8, we shall give a proof of our \it Fundamental Conjecture \rm $\mathsf{FC}$ proposed in Inoué \cite{ino90a} as follows: $\mathsf{FC}: \enspace \mathsf{FS} \enspace \Longrightarrow \enspace \mathsf{F}.$ This is a new type of proofs. In §9, I shall give discussions.

On Bergman's Diamond Lemma for Ring Theory

This expository and review paper deals with the Diamond Lemma for ring theory, which is proved in the first section of G. M. Bergman, The Diamond Lemma for Ring Theory, Advances in Mathematics, 29 (1978), pp. 178-218. No originality of the present note is claimed on the part of the author, except for some suggestions and figures. Throughout this paper, I shall mostly use Bergman's expressions in his paper. In Remarks and Notes, the reader will find some useful information on this topic.

A sound interpretation of Leśniewski's epsilon in modal logic KTB

In this paper, we shall show that the following translation $I^M$ from the propositional fragment $\bf L_1$ of Leśniewski's ontology to modal logic $\bf KTB$ is sound: for any formula $ϕ$ and $ψ$ of $\bf L_1$, it is defined as \smallskip (M1) $I^M(ϕ\vee ψ)$ = $I^M(ϕ) \vee I^M(ψ),$ (M2) $I^M(\neg ϕ)$ = $\neg I^M(ϕ),$ (M3) $I^M(εab)$ = $\Diamond p_a \supset p_a . \wedge . \Box p_a \supset \Box p_b . \wedge . \Diamond p_b \supset p_a,$ \smallskip \noindent where $p_a$ and $p_b$ are propositional variables corresponding to the name variables $a$ and $b$, respectively. In the last section, we shall give some open problems and my conjectures.

Axiomatic Rejection for the Propositional Fragment of Leśniewski's Ontology

A Hilbert-type axiomatic rejection $\mathbf{HAR}$ for the propositional fragment $\mathbf{L_1}$ of Leśniewski's ontology is proposed. Also a Gentzen-type axiomatic rejection $\mathbf{GAR}$ of $\mathbf{L_1}$ is proposed. Models for $\mathbf{L_1}$ are introduced. By axiomatic rejection, Ishimoto's embedding theorem will be proved. One of our main theorems is: \noindent \textsc{Theorem} \rm (Main Theorem) \it $\vdash_T A \enspace \Longleftrightarrow \enspace \vdash_H \enspace A$ $\enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \Longleftrightarrow \enspace TA \enspace \mbox{is valid in first-order predicate logic with equality}$ $\enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \enspace \Longleftrightarrow \enspace not \dashv_H A.$ \noindent where $\vdash_T A$ means that $A$ is provable in the tableau method of $\mathbf{L_1}$, while $\vdash_H A$ means that $A$ is provable in the Hilbert-type $\mathbf{L_1}$. \rm \smallskip In the last section, as the chracterization theorem, we shall show the theorem which contains six equivalent statements with the cut elimination theorem etc.

The consistency of arithmetic from a point of view of constructive tableau method with strong negation, Part I: the system without complete induction

In this Part I, we shall prove the consistency of arithmetic without complete induction from a point of view of strong negation, using its embedding to the tableau system $\bf SN$ of constructive arithmetic with strong negation without complete induction, for which two types of cut elimination theorems hold. One is $\bf SN$-cut elimination theorem for the full system $\bf SN$. The other is $\bf PCN$-cut elimination theorem for a proposed subsystem $\bf PCN$ of $\bf SN$. The disjunction property and the E-theorem (existence property) for $\bf SN$ are also proved. As a novelty, we shall give a simple proof of a restricted version of $\bf SN$-cut elimination theorem as an application of the disjunction property, using $\bf PCN$-cut elimination theorem.

How to Make a New Logic

We discuss about how to make a new logic with considering a slogan: \it take the inversion of what you know. \rm Suppose that we have a Gentzen-style logical system $S$. The operation to make a new logic from $S$ is the following: \it for all the axioms and rules of $S$, change the direction of all the arrows occurred in the sequents of the axiom or the rule to the opposite side. \rm We call this operation \it Stahlization. \rm We consider certain logics in this respect.

On Blass translation for Leśniewski's propositional ontology and modal logics

In this paper, we shall give another proof of the faithfulness of Blass translation (for short, $B$-translation) of the propositional fragment $\bf L_1$ of Leśniewski's ontology in the modal logic $\bf K$ \it by means of Hintikka formula\rm . And we extend the result to von Wright-type deontic logics, i.e., ten Smiley-Hanson systems of monadic deontic logic. As a result of observing the proofs we shall give general theorems on the faithfulness of $B$-translation with respect to normal modal logics complete to certain sets of well-known accessibility relations with a restriction that transitivity and symmetry are not set at the same time. As an application of the theorems, for example, $B$-translation is faithful for the provability logic $\bf PrL$ (= $\bf GL$), that is, $\bf K$ $+$ $\Box (\Box ϕ\supset ϕ) \supset \Box ϕ$. The faithfulness also holds for normal modal logics, e.g., $\bf KD$, $\bf K4$, $\bf KD4$, $\bf KB$. We shall conclude this paper with the section of some open problems and conjectures.
