Inverse curvature flow of closed Legendre curves

In this paper, we deal with an inverse curvature flow of $\ell$-convex Legendre curves. Since the Legendre curve is a natural generalization of regular curve, the flow is a generalization of the classical inverse curvature flow of regular curves. For the initial value problem, we study on the unique existence of the flow in global time, the monotonicity of the number of the singular cusps with respect to t > 0 and the asymptotic behavior of the flow as $t \to \infty$. Regarding the asymptotics, the flow asymptotically converges to one of the self similar solutions by scaling appropriately, and the convergence is completely categorized depending on the initial curve.

Singular Dirichlet boundary problems for a class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations in one dimension

In this paper, we deal with the initial value problem for a class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations with a singular Dirichlet boundary condition in one space dimension. The interior equation includes, for example, a fully nonlinear $p$-Laplace type heat equation and a $β$-power type curvature flow. The singular Dirichlet boundary condition depicts, for example, the asymptoticness of the ends of complete curve to parallel two lines in geometric flow of graphs. We study the dependence of the existence and non-existence of solution to the problem on the interior equation and the boundedness of the initial function.

Sharp interface limit for a quasi-linear large deviation rate function

We discuss the sharp interface limit, leading to a mean curvature flow energy, for the rate function of the large deviation principle of a Glauber+Kawasaki process with speed change. We provide an explicit formula of the limiting functional given by the mobility and the transport coefficient.

A representation formula for viscosity solutions of nonlocal Hamilton--Jacobi equations and applications

This paper is concerned with geometric motion of a closed surface whose velocity depends on a nonlocal quantity of the enclosed region. Using the level set formulation, we study a class of nonlocal Hamilton--Jacobi equations and establish a control-based representation formula for solutions. We also apply the formula to discuss the fattening phenomenon and large-time asymptotics of the solutions.

Long time behavior for a curvature flow of networks related to grain bundary motion with the effect of lattice misorientations

The mathematical model of grain boundary motion, including lattice misorientations' effect, is considered. When time-dependent lattice misorientations are state variables of the surface tension of the grain boundary, to ensure the energy dissipation law, one can obtain a curvature flow of networks with time-dependent mobilities. This paper studies the solvability and long-time asymptotic behavior of the curvature flow subjected to the Herring condition which ensures that the constituent grain boundary surface tensions are balanced at the triple junction.

Quasiconvexity preserving property for fully nonlinear nonlocal parabolic equations

This paper is concerned with a general class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations with monotone nonlocal terms. We investigate the quasiconvexity preserving property of positive, spatially coercive viscosity solutions. We prove that if the initial value is quasiconvex, the viscosity solution to the Cauchy problem stays quasiconvex in space for all time. Our proof can be regarded as a limit version of that for power convexity preservation as the exponent tends to infinity. We also present several concrete examples to show applications of our result.

Singular Neumann boundary problems for a class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations in one dimension

In this paper, we discuss singular Neumann boundary problem for a class of nonlinear parabolic equations in one space dimension. Our boundary problem describes motion of a planar curve sliding along the boundary with a zero contact angle, which can be viewed as a limiting model for the capillary phenomenon. We study the uniqueness and existence of solutions by using the viscosity solution theory. We also show the convergence of the solution to a traveling wave as time proceeds to infinity when the initial value is assumed to be convex.

Global stability of traveling waves for an area preserving curvature flow with contact angle condition

We consider an evolving plane curve with two endpoints that can move freely on the $x$-axis with generating constant contact angles. We discuss the asymptotic behavior of global-in-time solutions when the evolution of this plane curve is governed by area-preserving curvature flow equation. The main result shows that any moving curve converges to a traveling wave if the moving curve starts from an embedded convex curve and remains bounded in global time.

Existence of non-convex traveling waves for surface diffusion of curves with constant contact angles

The traveling waves for surface diffusion of plane curves are studied. We consider an evolving plane curve with two endpoints, which can move freely on the x-axis with generating constant contact angles. For the evolution of this plane curve governed by surface diffusion, we discuss the existence, the uniqueness and the convexity of traveling waves. The main results show that the uniqueness and the convexity can be lost in depending on the conditions of the contact angles, although the existence holds for any contact angles in the interval $(0,π/2)$.

Convergence of the Allen-Cahn equation with a zero Neumann boundary condition on non-convex domains

We study a singular limit problem of the Allen-Cahn equation with the homogeneous Neumann boundary condition on non-convex domains with smooth boundaries under suitable assumptions for initial data. The main result is the convergence of the time parametrized family of the diffused surface energy to Brakke's mean curvature flow with a generalized right angle condition on the boundary of the domain.

A fixed contact angle condition for varifolds

We define a generalized fixed contact angle condition for $n$-varifold and establish a boundary monotonicity formula. The results are natural generalizations of those for the Neumann boundary condition considered by Grüter-Jost.
