Spin-dependent recombination at arsenic donors in ion-implanted silicon

Spin-dependent transport processes in thin near-surface doping regions created by low energy ion implantation of arsenic in silicon are detected by two methods, spin-dependent recombination (SDR) using microwave photoconductivity and electrically detected magnetic resonance (EDMR) monitoring the DC current through the sample. The high sensitivity of these techniques allows the observation of the magnetic resonance in particular of As in weak magnetic fields and at low resonance frequencies (40-1200 MHz), where high-field-forbidden transitions between the magnetic substates can be observed due to the mixing of electron and nuclear spin states. Several implantation-induced defects are present in the samples studied and act as spin readout partner. We explicitly demonstrate this by electrically detected electron double resonance experiments and identify a pair recombination of close pairs formed by As donors and oxygen-vacancy centers in an excited triplet state (SL1) as the dominant spin-dependent process in As-implanted Czochralski-grown Si.

On correlations and mutual entropy in quantum composed systems

We study the correlations of classical and quantum systems from the information theoretical points of view. We analyze a simple measure of correlations based on entropy (such measure was already investigated as the degree of entanglement by Belavkin, Matsuoka and Ohya). Contrary to naive expectation, it is shown that separable state might possesses stronger correlation than an entangled state.

The generalized Lefschetz number of homeomorphisms on punctured disks

We compute the generalized Lefschetz number of orientation-preserving self-homeomorphisms of a compact punctured disk, using the fact that homotopy classes of these homeomorphisms can be identified with braids. This result is applied to study Nielsen-Thurston canonical homeomorphisms on a punctured disk. We determine, for a certain class of braids, the rotation number of the corresponding canonical homeomorphisms on the outer boundary circle. Also,it is shown that the canonical homeomorphisms corresponding to some braids are pseudo-Anosov.

New approach to Epsilon-entropy and Its comparison with Kolmogorov's Epsilon-entropy

Kolmogorov introduced a concept of Epsilon-entropy to analyze information in classical continuous system. The fractal dimension of geometrical sets was introduced by Mandelbrot as a new criterion to analyze the complexity of these sets. The Epsilon-entropy and the fractal dimension of a state in general quantum system were introduced by one of the present authors in order to characterize chaotic properties of general states. In this paper, we show that Epsilon-entropy of a state includes Kolmogorov Epsilon-entropy, and the fractal dimension of a state describe fractal structure of Gaussian measures.
