Phase structure of finite density QCD with a histogram method

We study the phase structure of QCD in the $T-μ$ plane using a histogram method and the reweighting technique by performing phase quenched simulations of two-flavor QCD with RG-improved gauge action and O($a$) improved Wilson quark action. Taking the effects of the complex phase of the quark determinant using the cumulant expansion method, we calculate the probability distribution function of plaquette and phase-quenched determinant as a function of $T$ and $μ$. We discuss the order of the QCD phase transition consulting the shape of the probability distribution function.

Numerical study of QCD phase diagram at high temperature and density by a histogram method

We study the QCD phase structure at high temperature and density adopting a histogram method. Because the quark determinant is complex at finite density, the Monte-Carlo method cannot be applied directly. We use a reweighting method and try to solve the problems which arise in the reweighting method, i.e. the sign problem and the overlap problem. We discuss the chemical potential dependence of the probability distribution function in the heavy quark mass region and examine the applicability of the approach in the light quark region.

Search for the Charmonium Dissociation Temperature with Variational Analysis in Lattice QCD

Charmonium dissociation temperatures are studied in a quenched anisotropic lattice QCD with standard plaquette gauge action and O(a) improved Wilson fermion action. Simulations are carried out at temperatures in the range 0.88T_c to 2.3T_c. From the meson correlators, we first subtract the contribution of constant mode, which was reported to mislead the analysis of, in particular, P wave signals. We then calculate effective masses and Bethe-Salpeter wave functions for ground (1S, 1P) and excited states (2S, 2P) using the multi-state variational analysis. To distinguish between bound states and scattering states, we apply two methods: First, we compare effective masses for charmonium correlation functions with finite spatial momenta under different spatial boundary conditions. Since the scattering state energies are sensitive to the boundary conditions, we expect finite volume effects when the charmonium dissociates. Second, we study the Bethe-Salpeter wave function, which should become broad when the charmonium bound state turns into a scattering state. With both methods, we have fond no clear evidences of dissociation for the ground and exited charmonium states up to 2.3T_c so far.

Study of constant mode in charmonium correlators at finite temperature

Recent studies on the spectral function of charmonium in lattice QCD suggest survival of $J/ψ$ state in the deconfinement phase till relatively high temperature. Based on the studies, different scenarios of $J/ψ$ suppression are discussed to understand experimental results in the Heavy Ion Collision experiments. The scenarios require the information on the dissociation temperatures of $χ_c$ and $ψ'$ as well as that of $J/ψ$. In order to investigate these states in finite temperature lattice QCD, we have to consider an effect of a characteristic constant mode in the correlators. As a result of the study on the constant mode, we find that most drastic change in charmonium correlators for $χ_c$ states just above the deconfinement transition are caused by the constant mode. It may indicate the survival of $χ_c$ states after the deconfinement transition until, at least, $1.4T_c$.

Constant contribution in meson correlators at finite temperature

We discuss a constant contribution to meson correlators at finite temperature. In the deconfinement phase of QCD, a colored single quark state is allowed as a finite energy state, which yields to a contribution of wraparound quark propagation to temporal meson correlators. We investigate the effects in the free quark case and quenched QCD at finite temperature. The ``scattering'' contribution causes a constant mode in meson correlators with zero spatial momentum and degenerate quark masses, which can dominate the correlators in the region of large imaginary times. In the free spectral function, the contribution yields a term proportional to $ωδ(ω)$. Therefore this contribution is related to transport phenomena in the quark gluon plasma. It is possible to distinguish the constant contribution from the other part using several analysis methods proposed in this paper. As a result of the analyses, we find that drastic changes in charmonium correlators for $χ_c$ states just above the deconfinement transition are due to the constant contribution. The other differences in the $χ_c$ states are small. It may indicate the survival of $χ_c$ states after the deconfinement transition until, at least, $1.4T_c$.

QCD thermodynamics with $N_f=2+1$ near the continuum limit at realistic quark masses

We report on our study of QCD thermodynamics with 2+1 flavors of dynamical quarks. In this proceeding we present several thermodynamic quantities and our recent calculation of the critical temperature. In order to investigate the thermodynamic properties of QCD near the continuum limit we adopt improved staggered (p4) quarks coupled with tree-level Symanzik improved glue on $N_t=4$ and 6 lattices. The simulations are performed with a physical value of the strange quark mass and light quark masses which are in the range of $m_q/m_s=0.05-0.4$. The lightest quark mass corresponds to a pion mass of about 150 MeV.

Quarkonium at finite temperature

Lattice QCD studies on charmonium at finite temperature are presented After a discussion about problems for the Maximum Entropy Method applied to finite temperature lattice QCD, I show several results on charmonium spectral functions. The ``wave function'' of charmonium is also discussed to study the spatial correlation between quark and anti-quark in deconfinement phase.

Study of 1/m corrections in HQET

We report our exploratory study on the matching condition of HQET with QCD including 1/m corrections. We introduce a new observable from the dependence of the heavy-light effective energy on the twisted boundary condition parameter $θ$, which could be used to match the kinetic term $\vec{D}^2/(2m)$. Carrying out quenched QCD simulations for fixed lattice spacing in small volumes with O(a)-improved Wilson fermions, we study the 1/m dependence of this observable, from which the static limit and 1/m coefficient can be extracted. We also compare our preliminary result with HQET.

Remarks on the Maximum Entropy Method applied to finite temperature lattice QCD

We make remarks on the Maximum Entropy Method (MEM) for studies of the spectral function of hadronic correlators in finite temperature lattice QCD. We discuss the virtues and subtlety of MEM in the cases that one does not have enough number of data points such as at finite temperature. Taking these points into account, we suggest several tests which one should examine to keep the reliability for the results, and also apply them using mock and lattice QCD data.

Search for the S=+1 pentaquarks in quenched lattice QCD

We study spin $\frac12$ hadronic states in quenched lattice QCD to search for a possible $S=+1$ pentaquark resonance. Our work is the first systematic lattice QCD study which properly carries out the following analyses: {\it (1) the careful extraction of the first two low energy states with very high statistics and the variational method} and {\it (2) the study of volume dependences of eigenenergies and spectral weights to distinguish resonance states from scattering states}. Simulations are carried out on $8^3\times 24$, $10^3\times 24$, $12^3\times 24$ and $16^3\times 24$ lattices at $β$=5.7 with the standard plaquette gauge action and the Wilson quark action. Our result indicates the existence of a resonance state lying slightly above the NK threshold in $(I,J^P)=(0,\frac12^-)$ channel in quenched QCD.

Search for the possible S=+1 Pentaquark states in Quenched Lattice QCD

We study spin $\frac12$ hadronic states in quenched lattice QCD to search for a possible $S=+1$ pentaquark resonance. Simulations are carried out on $8^3\times 24$, $10^3\times 24$, $12^3\times 24$ and $16^3\times 24$ lattices at $β$=5.7 at the quenched level with the standard plaquette gauge action and the Wilson quark action. We adopt a Dirichlet boundary condition in the time direction for the quark to circumvent the possible contaminations due to the (anti)periodic boundary condition for the quark field, which are peculiar to the pentaquark. By diagonalizing the $2\times 2$ correlation matrices constructed from two independent operators with the quantum numbers $(I,J)=(0,\frac12)$, we successfully obtain the energies of the lowest state and the 2nd-lowest state in this channel. The analysis of the volume dependence of the energies and spectral weight factors indicates that a resonance state is likely to exist slightly above the NK threshold in $(I,J^P)=(0,\frac12^-)$ channel.

Charmonium properties at finite temperature on quenched anisotropic lattices

We study charmonium properties below and above $T_c$ up to 1.8$T_c$, on quenched anisotropic lattices. Information of the spectral functions is extracted using the maximum entropy method and the constrained curve fitting. We also calculate the color singlet and averaged free energies and evaluate the charmonium spectrum with the potential model analysis. The relation between the lattice result of the spectral function analysis and the potential model is discussed.

Anisotropic lattice with nonperturbative accuracy

We determine the nonperturbative anisotropic parameter of the gauge action in the quenched approximation with less than 1% accuracy using the Sommer scale measured by the Lüscher-Weisz algorithm or smearing technique. We also study the nonperturbative O(a)-improvement of the quark action. The bare quark anisotropy is determined using the masses from the temporal and spatial directions. For the determination of the $O(a)$ improvement coefficients, we apply the Schrödinger functional method.

Contribution of disconnected diagrams to the hyperfine splitting of charmonium

We discuss the contribution of OZI-suppressed diagrams to the hyperfine splitting of charmonium in lattice QCD. We study valence quark mass regions from strange to charm quark masses. No contribution of the disconnected diagram is seen in the vector meson channel. In the pseudo-scalar channel and for valence quark masses around the strange quark, the disconnected contribution induces a considerable increase of the meson mass. This contribution quickly decreases as the quark mass increases. For charmonium the effect is very small although a decrease of the pseudoscalar mass induced by the disconnected contribution cannot be ruled out.

Charmonium correlators at finite temperature in quenched lattice QCD

We study charmonium correlators at finite temperature using quenched lattice QCD simulations. Two analysis procedures are applied to extract information on the spectral function: the maximum entropy method, and the $χ^2$ fit analyses including the constrained curve fitting. We focus on the low energy structure of the spectral function by applying the smearing technique. We first discuss the applicability of these methods to the finite temperatures by analyzing the data at T=0 with restricted numbers of degrees of freedom. Then we apply these methods to the correlators at $T>0$. We find no indication of mass shift and finite width for the charmonium states at $T\simeq 0.9T_c$. The results at $T\simeq 1.1 T_c$ imply that bound-state-like structures may survive even above $T_c$.

Numerical study of staggered quark action on quenched anisotropic lattices

The staggered quark action on anisotropic lattices is studied. We carry out numerical simulations in the quenched approximation at three values of lattice spacing ($a_σ^{-1}=1-2$ GeV) with the anisotropy $ξ= a_σ/a_τ=4$, where $a_σ$ and $a_τ$ are the spatial and temporal lattice spacings, respectively. The bare anisotropy $γ_F$ in the quark action is numerically tuned through the ratio of meson masses in the fine and coarse directions, and through the dispersion relation of a meson, so that the renormalized fermionic anisotropy coincides with that of the gauge field. The discrepancy between these two calibration schemes provides an estimate of the finite lattice artifact, which is found to be sizable in the range of cutoff explored in this work. We also compute the meson masses using correlators with the wall source at the tuned anisotropy parameter. The flavor symmetry breaking effect smoothly decreases as $β$ increases. The effect of uncertainty in $γ_F$ on the meson masses are examined. We also discuss a perspective on dynamical simulations.

Anisotropic lattices for precision computations in heavy flavor physics

We study the anisotropic lattice QCD for precision computations of heavy-light matrix elements. Our previous study in which the lattices are calibrated with a few percent accuracy has already given results comparable to the existing calculations. This suggests that even higher precision may be achieved by a more precise calibration of anisotropic lattices. We describe our strategy to tune the gauge and quark parameters with accuracies much less than 1 % in the quenched approximation.

Numerical study of staggered fermion on anisotropic lattices

We study calibration procedures of the staggered quarks on anisotropic lattices in the quenched approximation and in $N_f = 2$ dynamical simulations. For the calibration conditions we adopt the hadronic radii $r_0$ and the meson masses in the temporal and spatial directions. On the quenched lattice, we calibrate the quark field and compare the result with the result determined using the meson dispersion relation. In dynamical simulations, we determine the anisotropy parameters $γ_G$ and $γ_F$ simultaneously within 1% accuracy at renormalized anisotropy $ξ= a_s/a_t = 4$.
