Stau study at the ILC and its implication for the muon g-2 anomaly

Once all the sleptons as well as the Bino are observed at the ILC, the Bino contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment (muon $g-2$) in supersymmetric (SUSY) models can be reconstructed. Motivated by the recently confirmed muon $g-2$ anomaly, we examine the reconstruction accuracy at the ILC with $\sqrt{s}$ = 500 GeV. For this purpose, measurements of stau parameters are important. We quantitatively study the determination of the mass and mixing parameters of the staus at the ILC. Furthermore, we discuss the implication of the stau study to the reconstruction of the SUSY contribution to the muon $g-2$. At the benchmark point of our choice, we find that the SUSY contribution to the muon $g-2$ can be determined with a precision of $\sim 1\%$ at the ILC.

Leptophilic Gauge Bosons at Lepton Beam Dump Experiments

It has been recently known that we can use beams of future lepton colliders, the International Linear Collider (ILC), the Compact Linear Collider (CLIC), and the muon collider, for beam dump experiments if a shield and a detector are installed behind the beam dump. We study the prospect of searching for leptophilic gauge bosons (LGBs) in association with $U(1)_{L_e-L_μ}$, $U(1)_{L_e-L_τ}$, and $U(1)_{L_μ-L_τ}$ gauge symmetries at such lepton beam dump experiments. We perform a detailed calculation of the event rates of the LGB events, taking into account bremsstrahlung and pair-annihilation processes. We show that the lepton beam dump experiments at future lepton colliders can reach parameter regions which are not been covered.

Observing Axion Emission from Supernova with Collider Detectors

We consider a possibility to observe the axion emission from a nearby supernova (SN) in the future, which can be known in advance by the pre-SN alert system, by collider detectors like the LHC detectors (i.e., the ATLAS and the CMS) and the ILC detectors (i.e., the ILD and SiD). The axion from the SN can be converted to the photon by the strong magnetic field in the detector and the photon can be detected by electromagnetic calorimeter. We estimate the numbers of signal and background events due to a nearby SN and show that the number of signal may be sizable. The axion emission from a nearby SN may be observed if, at the time of the SN, the beam is stopped and the detector operation is switched to the one for the SN axion search.

Upper bound on the smuon mass from vacuum stability in the light of muon $g-2$ anomaly

We derive an upper bound on the smuon mass assuming that the muon $g-2$ anomaly is explained by the supersymmetric (SUSY) contribution. In the minimal SUSY standard model, the SUSY contribution to the muon $g-2$ is enhanced when the Higgsino mass parameter is large. Then, the smuon-smuon-Higgs trilinear coupling is enhanced, which may destabilize the electroweak vacuum. We calculate precisely the decay rate of the electroweak vacuum in such a case. We include one-loop effects which are crucial to determine the overall normalization of the decay rate. Requiring that the theoretical prediction of the muon anomalous magnetic moment is consistent with the observed value at the $1$ and $2σ$ levels (equal to the central value of the observed value), we found that the lightest smuon mass should be smaller than $1.38$ and $1.68\ {\rm TeV}$ ($1.20\ {\rm TeV}$) for $\tanβ=10$ (with $\tanβ$ being the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs bosons), respectively, and the bound is insensitive to the value of $\tanβ$.

Hidden Dark Matter from Starobinsky Inflation

The Starobinsky inflation model is one of the simplest inflation models that is consistent with the cosmic microwave background observations. In order to explain dark matter of the universe, we consider a minimal extension of the Starobinsky inflation model with introducing the dark sector which communicates with the visible sector only via the gravitational interaction. In Starobinsky inflation model, a sizable amount of dark-sector particle may be produced by the inflaton decay. Thus, a scalar, a fermion or a vector boson in the dark sector may become dark matter. We pay particular attention to the case with dark non-Abelian gauge interaction to make a dark glueball a dark matter candidate. In the minimal setup, we show that it is difficult to explain the observed dark matter abundance without conflicting observational constraints on the coldness and the self-interaction of dark matter. We propose scenarios in which the dark glueball, as well as other dark-sector particles, from the inflaton decay become viable dark matter candidates. We also discuss possibilities to test such scenarios.

Leptophilic Gauge Bosons at ILC Beam Dump Experiment

We study the prospects of searching for leptophilic gauge bosons (LGBs) at the beam dump experiment using $e^\pm$ beams of International $e^+e^-$ Linear Collider (ILC). We consider LGBs in association of $U(1)_{e-μ}$, $U(1)_{e-τ}$, and $U(1)_{μ-τ}$ gauge symmetries, which are assumed to be light and long-lived. Utilizing the energetic electron and positron beams of the ILC, we show that the ILC beam dump experiment can cover the parameter regions which have not been explored before. We also discuss the possibility of distinguishing various models.

Particle Production from Oscillating Scalar Field and Consistency of Boltzmann Equation

Boltzmann equation plays important roles in particle cosmology in studying the evolution of distribution functions (also called as occupation numbers) of various particles. For the case of the decay of a scalar condensation $ϕ$ into a pair of scalar particles (called $χ$), we point out that the system may not be well described by the Boltzmann equation when the occupation number of $χ$ becomes large even in the so-called narrow resonance regime. We study the particle production including the possible enhancement due to a large occupation number of the final state particle, known as the stimulated emission or the parametric resonance. Based on the quantum field theory (QFT), we derive a set of equations which directly govern the evolution of the distribution function of $χ$. Comparing the results of the QFT calculation and those from the Boltzmann equation, we find non-agreements in some cases. In particular, in the expanding Universe, the occupation number of $χ$ based on the QFT may differ by many orders of magnitude from that from the Boltzmann equation. We also discuss a possible relation between the evolution equations based on the QFT and the Boltzmann equation.

Light Dark Matter from Inflaton Decay

We propose a simple mechanism of light dark matter (DM) production from the decay of the oscillating inflaton condensation. If the reheating temperature after inflation is higher than the inflaton mass, which is of the same order of the momentum of the DM at the time of the production, the DM momentum can be suppressed compared to the temperature of the thermal plasma if the interaction of the DM is weak enough. Consequently, the DM can be cold enough to avoid the observational constraints on the warm DM, like the Lyman-$α$ bound even if the DM mass is small. We study the bosonic and fermionic DM production from the inflaton decay, taking into account the effect of the stimulated emission and Pauli blocking, respectively. In both cases, the DM can be cold and abundant enough to be a viable candidate of the DM. We also apply our mechanism to the production of isocurvature-problem-free axion DM and Dirac sea DM of right-handed neutrino consistent the seesaw relation for the active neutrino masses.

Studying squark mass spectrum through gluino decay at 100 TeV future hadron colliders

We study the prospect of determining the decay properties of the gluino in the supersymmetric (SUSY) standard model at a 100 TeV future hadron collider. We consider the case where the neutral Wino is the lightest superparticle. In this case, the long-lived charged Wino can be used to eliminate standard model backgrounds, which enables us to study the details of superparticles. We show that, based on the analysis of the numbers of high $p_T$ leptons, boosted $W$-jets, and $b$-tagged jets, we may determine the gaugino species and the quark flavors in the gluino decay. With such determinations, we can obtain information about the mass spectrum of squarks even if squarks are out of the kinematical reach.

Axion/Hidden-Photon Dark Matter Conversion into Condensed Matter Axion

The QCD axion or axion-like particles are candidates of dark matter of the universe. On the other hand, axion-like excitations exist in certain condensed matter systems, which implies that there can be interactions of dark matter particles with condensed matter axions. We discuss the relationship between the condensed matter axion and a collective spin-wave excitation in an anti-ferromagnetic insulator at the quantum level. The conversion rate of the light dark matter, such as the elementary particle axion or hidden photon, into the condensed matter axion is estimated for the discovery of the dark matter signals.

Leptonic CP and Flavor Violations in SUSY GUT with Right-handed Neutrinos

We study leptonic CP and flavor violations in supersymmetric (SUSY) grand unified theory (GUT) with right handed neutrinos, paying attention to the renormalization group effects on the slepton mass matrices due to the neutrino and GUT Yukawa interactions. In particular, we study in detail the impacts of the so-called Casas- Ibarra parameters on CP and flavor violating observables. The renormalization group effects induce CP and flavor violating elements of the SUSY breaking scalar mass squared matrices, which may result in sizable leptonic CP and flavor violating signals. Assuming seesaw formula for the active neutrino masses, the renormalization group effects have been often thought to be negligible as the right-handed neutrino masses become small. With the most general form of the neutrino Yukawa matrix, i.e., taking into account the Casas-Ibarra parameters, however, this is not the case. We found that the maximal possible sizes of signals of leptonic CP and flavor violating processes are found to be insensitive to the mass scale of the right-handed neutrinos and that they are as large as (or larger than) the present experimental bounds irrespective of the right-handed neutrino masses.

Precise Calculation of the Decay Rate of False Vacuum with Multi-Field Bounce

We study the decay rate of a false vacuum in gauge theory at the one-loop level. We pay particular attention to the case where the bounce consists of an arbitrary number of scalar fields. With a multi-field bounce, which has a curved trajectory in the field space, the mixing among the gauge fields and the scalar fields evolves along the path of the bounce in the field space and the one-loop calculation of the vacuum decay rate becomes complicated. We consider the one-loop contribution to the decay rate with an arbitrary choice of the gauge parameter, and obtain a gauge invariant expression of the vacuum decay rate. We also give proper treatments of gauge zero modes and renormalization.

Big-bang nucleosynthesis with sub-GeV massive decaying particles

We consider the effects of the injections of energetic photon and electron (or positron) on the big-bang nucleosynthesis. We study the photodissociation of light elements in the early Universe paying particular attention to the case that the injection energy is sub-GeV and derive upper bounds on the primordial abundances of the massive decaying particle as a function of its lifetime. We also discuss a solution of the $^7$Li problem in this framework.

Detecting Light Boson Dark Matter through Conversion into Magnon

Light boson dark matter such as axion or hidden photon can be resonantly converted into a magnon in a magnetic insulator under the magnetic field, which can be detected experimentally. We provide a quantum mechanical formulation for the magnon event rate and show that the result is consistent with that obtained by a classical calculation. Besides, it is pointed out that the experimental setup of the QUAX proposal for the axion detection also works as a detector of hidden photon dark matter. It has good sensitivity in the mass range around 1 meV, which is beyond astrophysical constraints.

Bounce Configuration from Gradient Flow

Based on the gradient flow, we propose a new method to determine the bounce configuration for false vacuum decay. Our method is applicable to a large class of models with multiple fields. Since the bounce is a saddle point of an action, a naive gradient flow method which minimizes the action does not work. We point out that a simple modification of the flow equation can make the bounce its stable fixed point while the false vacuum configuration an unstable one. Consequently, the bounce configuration can be obtained simply by following the flow without a careful choice of an initial configuration. With numerical analysis, we confirm the validity of our claim, checking that the flow equation we propose indeed has solutions that flow into the bounce configuration.

Determining Wino Lifetime in Supersymmetric Model at Future 100 TeV pp Colliders

We discuss a possibility to measure the lifetime of charged Wino in supersymmetric model at future 100 TeV pp colliders, assuming that (neutral) Wino is the lightest superparticle (LSP). In the Wino LSP scenario, the charged Wino has a lifetime of about 0.2 ns, and its track may be reconstructed in particular by the inner pixel detectors. We show that the lifetime of charged Wino may be measured by using the information about the distribution of the flight lengths of charged Winos. We propose a procedure for the lifetime determination and show how the accuracy changes as we vary the mass spectrum of superparticle. We also discuss the effects of the detector layouts on the lifetime determination.

Signals of Axion Like Dark Matter in Time Dependent Polarization of Light

We consider the search for axion-like particles (ALPs) by using time series data of the polarization angle of the light. If the condensation of an ALP plays the role of dark matter, the polarization plane of the light oscillates as a function of time and we may be able to detect the signal of the ALP by continuously observing the polarization. In particular, we discuss that the analysis of the Fourier-transformed data of the time-dependent polarization angle is powerful to find the signal of the ALP dark matter. We pay particular attention to the light coming from astrophysical sources such as protoplanetary disks, supernova remnants, the foreground emission of the cosmic microwave background, and so on. We show that, for the ALP mass of $\sim 10^{-22}$--$10^{-19}\ {\rm eV}$, ALP searches in the Fourier space may reach the parameter region which is unexplored by other searches yet.

Studying gaugino masses in supersymmetric model at future 100 TeV $pp$ collider

We discuss prospects of studying supersymmetric model at future $pp$ circular collider (FCC) with its centre-of-mass energy of $\sim 100\ {\rm TeV}$. We pay particular attention to the model in which Wino is lighter than other supersymmetric particles and all the gauginos are within the kinematical reach of the FCC, which is the case in a large class of so-called pure gravity mediation model based on anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. In such a class of model, charged Wino becomes long-lived with its decay length of $\sim 6\ {\rm cm}$, and the charged Wino tracks may be identified in particular by the inner pixel detector; the charged Wino tracks can be used not only for the discrimination of standard model backgrounds but also for the event reconstructions. We show that precise determinations of the Bino, Wino, and gluino masses are possible at the FCC. For such measurements, information about the charged Wino tracks, including the one about the velocity of the charged Wino using the time of the hit at the pixel detector, is crucial. With the measurements of the gaugino masses in the pure gravity mediation model, we have an access to more fundamental parameters like the gravitino mass.
