Exploring Three Nucleon Forces in Lattice QCD

We study the three nucleon force in Nf=2 dynamical clover fermion lattice QCD, utilizing the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function of the three nucleon system. Since parity-odd two nucleon potentials are not available in lattice QCD at this moment, we develop a new formulation to extract the genuine three nucleon force which requires only the information of parity-even two nucleon potentials. In order to handle the extremely expensive calculation cost, we consider a specific three-dimensional coordinate configuration for the three nucleons. We find that the linear setup is advantageous, where nucleons are aligned linearly with equal spacings. The lattice calculation is performed with 16^3 x 32 configurations at β=1.95, m_π=1.13 GeV generated by CP-PACS Collaboration, and the result of the three nucleon force in triton channel is presented.

Bound H-dibaryon in Flavor SU(3) Limit of Lattice QCD

The flavor-singlet H-dibaryon, which has strangeness -2 and baryon number 2, is studied by the approach recently developed for the baryon-baryon interactions in lattice QCD. The flavor-singlet central potential is derived from the spatial and imaginary-time dependence of the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave function measured in N_f=3 full QCD simulations with the lattice size of L = 2, 3, 4 fm. The potential is found to be insensitive to the volume, and it leads to a bound H-dibaryon with the binding energy of 30 - 40 MeV for the pseudo-scalar meson mass of 673 - 1015 MeV.

Nucleon strangeness form factors and moments of PDF

The calculation of the nucleon strangeness form factors from N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD is presented. Disconnected insertions are evaluated using the Z(4) stochastic method, along with unbiased subtractions from the hopping parameter expansion. We find that increasing the number of nucleon sources for each configuration improves the signal significantly. We obtain G_M^s(0) = -0.017(25)(07), which is consistent with experimental values, and has an order of magnitude smaller error. Preliminary results for the strangeness contribution to the second moment of the parton distribution function are also presented.

Baryon-Baryon Interactions in the Flavor SU(3) Limit from Full QCD Simulations on the Lattice

We investigate baryon-baryon (BB) interactions in the 3-flavor full QCD simulations with degenerate quark masses for all flavors. The BB potentials in the orbital S-wave are extracted from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions measured on the lattice. We observe strong flavor-spin dependences of the BB potentials at short distances. In particular, a strong repulsive core exists in the flavor-octet and spin-singlet channel (the 8_s representation), while an attractive core appears in the flavor singlet channel (the 1 representation). We discuss a relation of such flavor-spin dependence with the Pauli exclusion principle in the quark level. Possible existence of an H-dibaryon resonance above the Lambda-Lambda threshold is also discussed.

Nucleon strangeness form factors from N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD

We present the N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD calculation of the nucleon strangeness form factors. We evaluate disconnected insertions using the Z(4) stochastic method, along with unbiased subtractions from the hopping parameter expansion. We find that increasing the number of nucleon sources for each configuration improves the signal significantly. We obtain G_M^s(0) = -0.017(25)(07), where the first error is statistical, and the second is the uncertainties in Q^2 and chiral extrapolations. This is consistent with experimental values, and has an order of magnitude smaller error.

The calculation of nucleon strangeness form factors from N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD

We study the strangeness electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon from the N_f=2+1 clover fermion lattice QCD calculation. The disconnected insertions are evaluated using the Z(4) stochastic method, along with unbiased subtractions from the hopping parameter expansion. In addition to increasing the number of Z(4) noises, we find that increasing the number of nucleon sources for each configuration improves the signal significantly. We obtain G_M^s(0) = -0.017(25)(07), where the first error is statistical, and the second is the uncertainties in Q^2 and chiral extrapolations. This is consistent with experimental values, and has an order of magnitude smaller error. We also study the strangeness second moment of the partion distribution function of the nucleon, _{s-\bar{s}}.

Light scalar mesons in 2+1 flavor full QCD

We study the a_0 and K_0^* light scalar mesons in 2+1 flavor full QCD. Particular attention is paid to fitting excited states, with an eye toward determining whether scattering states are revealed. An ultimate goal will be to see how dynamical quarks affect the picture outlined with an earlier quenched study using overlap fermions, namely, that it is the a_0(1450), not the a_0(980), which is the lowest $\bar{q}q$ isovector scalar state.

2+1 flavor QCD calculation of and

We calculate the connected insertions of the nucleon three-point function to study the first few moments of the unpolarized structure functions of the nucleon. (The disconnected insertions are discussed elsewhere in these proceedings). The calculation employs the CP-PACS/JLQCD 2+1 dynamical clover fermions on a 16^3x32 lattice with lattice spacing a=0.1219 fm. The sequential source technique, using non-zero and zero momentum point nucleon field as the secondary source, is applied enabling a study of different currents at various momentum transfer.

Strangeness and glue in the nucleon from lattice QCD

We study the strangeness contribution to nucleon matrix elements using Nf=2+1 dynamical clover fermion configurations generated by the CP-PACS/JLQCD collaboration. In order to evaluate the disconnected insertion (DI), we use the Z(4) stochastic method, along with unbiased subtraction from the hopping parameter expansion which reduces the off-diagonal noises in the stochastic method. Furthermore, we find that using many nucleon sources for each configuration is effective in improving the signal. Our results for the quark contribution to the first moment _q in the DI, and the strangeness magnetic moment show that the statistical errors are under control with these techniques. We also study the gluonic contribution to the nucleon using the overlap operator to construct the gauge field tensor, F_{mu,nu}. The application to the calculation of first moment, _G, gives a good signal in quenched lattice QCD.

Isospin symmetry breaking effects in the pion and nucleon masses

We investigate the electromagnetic mass splittings in the pseudoscalar meson and nucleon systems by combining 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations, generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations, and quenched, non-compact, lattice QED configurations. We analyze finite volume effects by using $16^3\times 32$ and $24^3\times 64$ lattices.

Determination of light quark masses from the electromagnetic splitting of pseudoscalar meson masses computed with two flavors of domain wall fermions

We determine the light quark masses from lattice QCD simulations incorporating the electromagnetic interaction of valence quarks. The meson masses are calculated on lattice QCD configurations generated by the RBC Collaboration for two flavors of dynamical domain wall fermions, which are combined with QED configurations generated via quenched non-compact lattice QED. The electromagnetic part of the pion mass splitting is found to be $m_{π^+}-m_{π^0}=4.12(21)$ MeV, where only the statistical error is quoted, and similarly for the kaon, 1.443(55) MeV. Our results for the light quark masses are $m_u^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$3.02(27)(19)$ MeV, $m_d^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$5.49(20)(34)$ MeV, and $m_s^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$119.5(56)(74)$ MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. By averaging over $\pm e$ to cancel ${\cal O}(e)$ noise exactly on each combined gauge field configuration, we are able to work at physical $α=1/137$ and obtain very small statistical errors. In our calculation, several sources of systematic error remain, including finite volume, non-zero lattice spacing, chiral extrapolation, quenched QED, and quenched strange quark, which may be more significant than the errors quoted above.

Five-quark picture of Lambda(1405) in anisotropic lattice QCD

Five-quark (5Q) picture of Lambda(1405) is studied using quenched lattice QCD with an exotic 5Q operator of N\bar{K} type. To discreminate mere N\bar{K} and Σπscattering states, Hybrid Boundary Condition (HBC), a flavor-dependent boundary condition, is imposed on the quark fields along spatial direction. 5Q mass m_{5Q}\simeq 1.89 GeV is obtained after the chiral extrapolation to the physical quark mass region, which is too heavy to be identified with Lambda(1405). Then, Lambda(1405) seems neither a pure 3Q state nor a pure 5Q state, and therefore we present an interesting possibility that Lambda(1405) is a mixed state of 3Q and 5Q states.

The vector-scalar mixing in nuclear medium and the two quark component of scalar meson from QCD sum rules

We derive the QCD sum rules for the vector and scalar meson mixing in nuclear medium, using a two quark interpolating field for both mesons. Modeling the mixing via a nucleon hole contribution with known coupling constant, the sum rule can be used to determine the overlap of the interpolating field and the scalar meson. In the I=0 channel, we find a stable Borel curve and an overlap that is about 10% of the corresponding value in the pseudo scalar or vector channel. The sum rule in the I=1 channel is less reliable but also consistent with a small value for the overlap. These results suggest that both the $σ$ and $a_0$ have a small two quark and thus probably a large tetraquark components. We discuss the possibility of observing these scalar mesons from vector mesons emanating from the nuclear medium.

Theoretical Status of Pentaquarks

We review the current status of the theoretical pentaquark search from the direct QCD calculation. The works from the QCD sum rule and the lattice QCD in the literature are carefully examined. The importance of the framework which can distinguish the exotic pentaquark state (if any) from the NK scattering state is emphasized.

The isospin breaking effect on baryons with Nf=2 domain wall fermions

We study the isospin breaking effect on octet baryons. Using the two-flavor dynamical domain-wall QCD configurations combined with the quenched non-compact QED configurations, the electromagnetic mass splittings between isomultiplets (p, n), (Sigma^+, Sigma^0, Sigma^-), (Xi^0, Xi^-) are investigated. We evaluate the main source of statistical fluctuations in the two-point correlation function, and find that the elimination of O(e) fluctuation (e: the QED charge) is essential to extract the signal. Preliminary results for $m_p - m_n$ as well as other mass splittings are presented. Possible origin of systematic uncertainty is also discussed.

Meson-Meson and Meson-Baryon Interactions in Lattice QCD

We study the meson-meson and meson-baryon interactions in lattice QCD. The simulation is performed on 20^3 * 24 lattice at β=5.7 using Wilson gauge action and Wilson fermion at the quenched level. By adopting one static quark for each hadron as "heavy-light meson" and "heavy-light-light baryon", we define the distance $r$ of two hadrons and extract the inter-hadron potential from the energy difference of the two-particle state and its asymptotic state. We find that both of the meson-meson and meson-baryon potentials are nontrivially weak for the whole range of 0.2 fm <= r <= 0.8 fm. The effect of including/excluding the quark-exchange diagrams is found to be marginal.

Multi-Quarks and Two-Baryon Interaction in Lattice QCD

We study multi-quark (3Q,4Q,5Q) systems in lattice QCD. We perform the detailed studies of multi-quark potentials in lattice QCD to clarify the inter-quark interaction in multi-quark systems. We find that all the multi-quark potentials are well described by the OGE Coulomb plus multi-Y-type linear potential, i.e., the multi-Y Ansatz. For multi-quark systems, we observe lattice QCD evidences of ``flip-flop'', i.e., flux-tube recombination. These lattice QCD studies give an important bridge between elementary particle physics and nuclear physics.

Anisotropic lattice QCD study of pentaquark baryons in spin 3/2 channel

We perform the comprehensive analysis of the pentaquark (5Q) in J^P=3/2^{\pm} channel using anisotropic quenched lattice QCD. We employ the standard Wilson gauge action at β=5.75 and the O(a) improved Wilson (clover) quark action on a 12^3*96 lattice with the renormalized anisotropy as a_s/a_t = 4. A large number of gauge configurations as Nconf=1000 is analyzed, which is found to be essential to achieve a reliable measurement. We study three types of the Rarita-Schwinger intepolationg fields with I=0: (a) the NK*-type, (b) the (color-)twisted NK*-type, (c) a diquark-type. As a result, we find only massive states as m(5Q)= 2.1-2.2 GeV in J^P=3/2^- channel, and m(5Q) = 2.4-2.6 GeV in J^P=3/2^+ channel in the chiral limit. The analysis with the hybrid boundary condition (HBC) is performed to distinguish whether these resonances are compact 5Q resonances or two-particle scattering states. No low-lying compact 5Q resonance states are found below 2.1GeV.
