Complex Hadamard matrices attached to even orthogonal schemes of class 4

A complex Hadamard matrix is a square matrix W with complex entries of absolute value 1 satisfying WW*=nI, where * stands for the Hermitian transpose and I is the identity matrix of order n. In this paper, we give constructions of complex Hadamard matrices in the Bose-Mesner algebra of a certain 4-class symmetric association scheme. Moreover, we determine the Nomura algebras to show that the resulting matrices are not decomposable into nontrivial generalized tensor products.

Enhanced violation of the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu inequality with optimized time-bin-entangled ququarts

High-dimensional quantum entanglement is drawing attention because it enables us to perform quantum information tasks that are robust against noises. To test the nonlocality of entangled qudits, the Collins-Gisin-Linden-Massar-Popescu (CGLMP) inequality has been proposed and demonstrated using qudits based on orbital angular momentum, time-energy uncertainty, and frequency bins. Here, we report the generation and observation of time-bin entangled ququarts. We implemented a measurement for the CGLMP inequality test using cascaded delay Mach-Zehnder interferometers fabricated by using planar lightwave circuit technology, with which we achieved a precise and stable measurement for time-bin-entangled ququarts. In addition, we generated an optimized entangled state by modulating the pump pulse intensities, with which we can observe the theoretical maximum violation for the CGLMP inequality test. As a result, we successfully observed a Bell-type parameter $S_4 = 2.774 \pm 0.025$ violating the CGLMP inequality for the maximally entangled state and an enhanced Bell-type parameter $S_4 = 2.913 \pm 0.023$ for the optimized entangled state.

Complex Hadamard matrices contained in a Bose-Mesner algebra

A complex Hadamard matrix is a square matrix H with complex entries of absolute value 1 satisfying $HH^*= nI$, where $*$ stands for the Hermitian transpose and I is the identity matrix of order $n$. In this paper, we first determine the image of a certain rational map from the $d$-dimensional complex projective space to $\mathbb{C}^{d(d+1)/2}$. Applying this result with $d=3$, we give constructions of complex Hadamard matrices, and more generally, type-II matrices, in the Bose-Mesner algebra of a certain 3-class symmetric association scheme. In particular, we recover the complex Hadamard matrices of order 15 found by Ada Chan. We compute the Haagerup sets to show inequivalence of resulting type-II matrices, and determine the Nomura algebras to show that the resulting matrices are not decomposable into generalized tensor products.

Spin models constructed from Hadamard matrices

A spin model (for link invariants) is a square matrix $W$ which satisfies certain axioms. For a spin model $W$, it is known that $W^TW^{-1}$ is a permutation matrix, and its order is called the index of $W$. F. Jaeger and K. Nomura found spin models of index 2, by modifying the construction of symmetric spin models from Hadamard matrices. The aim of this paper is to give a construction of spin models of an arbitrary even index from any Hadamard matrix. In particular, we show that our spin models of indices a power of 2 are new.

Pseudocyclic association schemes and strongly regular graphs

Let X be a pseudocyclic association scheme in which all the nontrivial relations are strongly regular graphs with the same eigenvalues. We prove that the principal part of the first eigenmatrix of X is a linear combination of an incidence matrix of a symmetric design and the all-ones matrix. Amorphous pseudocyclic association schemes are examples of such association schemes whose associated symmetric design is trivial. We present several non-amorphous examples, which are either cyclotomic association schemes, or their fusion schemes. Special properties of symmetric designs guarantee the existence of further fusions, and the two known non-amorphous association schemes of class 4 discovered by van Dam and by the authors, are recovered in this way. We also give another pseudocyclic non-amorphous association scheme of class 7 on GF(2^{21}), and a new pseudocyclic amorphous association scheme of class 5 on GF(2^{12}).
