Turbo-GS: Accelerating 3D Gaussian Fitting for High-Quality Radiance Fields

Novel-view synthesis plays a crucial role in computer vision with applications in 3D reconstruction, mixed reality, and robotics. Recent approaches, such as 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS), have emerged as state-of-the-art solutions, offering high-quality novel view synthesis in real time. However, training 3DGS models remains slow, particularly for high-resolution images, often requiring hours to fit a scene with 200 views. In this work, we aim to accelerate the fitting process by reducing computational overhead and improving learning efficiency. Specifically, we introduce a dilated rendering technique that renders only a subset of pixels instead of the full image, significantly reducing computational costs. To enhance learning efficiency, we develop a convergence-aware budget control mechanism that balances the addition of new Gaussians with the optimization of existing ones. Additionally, to improve densification efficiency and prevent gradient vanishing, we incorporate both positional and appearance errors to improve the effectiveness of densification. With these improvements, we achieve fast 4K-resolution fitting while maintaining, or even improving, novel view rendering quality. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves significantly faster optimization than existing approaches while preserving high rendering fidelity.

EAG-PT: Emission-Aware Gaussians and Path Tracing for Diffuse Indoor Scene Reconstruction and Editing

Recent radiance-field-based reconstruction methods, such as NeRF and 3DGS, achieve high visual fidelity for indoor scenes, but often break down under scene editing due to baked illumination and the lack of explicit light transport. In contrast, inverse path tracing methods based on mesh representations enforce correct light transport but require highly accurate geometry, making them difficult to apply robustly to real indoor scenes. We present Emission-Aware Gaussians and Path Tracing (EAG-PT), a method for physically based reconstruction and rendering of indoor scenes using a unified 2D Gaussian representation, targeting editable diffuse global illumination. Our approach consists of three key ideas: (1) representing indoor scenes with 2D Gaussians as a transport-friendly geometric proxy that avoids explicit mesh reconstruction; (2) explicitly separating emissive and non-emissive components during reconstruction to support editing; and (3) decoupling reconstruction from final rendering by using efficient single-bounce optimization and high-quality multi-bounce path tracing, respectively. Experiments on synthetic and real indoor scenes show that EAG-PT produces more natural and physically consistent edited renderings than radiance-field reconstructions, while preserving finer geometric detail and avoiding mesh-induced artifacts compared with mesh-based inverse path tracing. These results highlight the potential of our approach for applications such as interior design, XR content creation, and embodied AI.

Art3D: Training-Free 3D Generation from Flat-Colored Illustration

Large-scale pre-trained image-to-3D generative models have exhibited remarkable capabilities in diverse shape generations. However, most of them struggle to synthesize plausible 3D assets when the reference image is flat-colored like hand drawings due to the lack of 3D illusion, which are often the most user-friendly input modalities in art content creation. To this end, we propose Art3D, a training-free method that can lift flat-colored 2D designs into 3D. By leveraging structural and semantic features with pre-trained 2D image generation models and a VLM-based realism evaluation, Art3D successfully enhances the three-dimensional illusion in reference images, thus simplifying the process of generating 3D from 2D, and proves adaptable to a wide range of painting styles. To benchmark the generalization performance of existing image-to-3D models on flat-colored images without 3D feeling, we collect a new dataset, Flat-2D, with over 100 samples. Experimental results demonstrate the performance and robustness of Art3D, exhibiting superior generalizable capacity and promising practical applicability. Our source code and dataset will be publicly available on our project page: https://joy-jy11.github.io/ .

M^3: Dense Matching Meets Multi-View Foundation Models for Monocular Gaussian Splatting SLAM

Streaming reconstruction from uncalibrated monocular video remains challenging, as it requires both high-precision pose estimation and computationally efficient online refinement in dynamic environments. While coupling 3D foundation models with SLAM frameworks is a promising paradigm, a critical bottleneck persists: most multi-view foundation models estimate poses in a feed-forward manner, yielding pixel-level correspondences that lack the requisite precision for rigorous geometric optimization. To address this, we present M^3, which augments the Multi-view foundation model with a dedicated Matching head to facilitate fine-grained dense correspondences and integrates it into a robust Monocular Gaussian Splatting SLAM. M^3 further enhances tracking stability by incorporating dynamic area suppression and cross-inference intrinsic alignment. Extensive experiments on diverse indoor and outdoor benchmarks demonstrate state-of-the-art accuracy in both pose estimation and scene reconstruction. Notably, M^3 reduces ATE RMSE by 64.3% compared to VGGT-SLAM 2.0 and outperforms ARTDECO by 2.11 dB in PSNR on the ScanNet++ dataset.

Elastoresistivity Signatures of Nematic Fluctuations in Layered Antiferromagnet CoTa3S6

Nematic phases that break rotational symmetry are widely observed in quantum materials, and clarifying their origin and relationship with other symmetry-breaking phases remains an important but challenging task. In this work, we investigate nematic fluctuations in CoTa$_3$S$_6$ using elastoresistivity experiments to resolve the nature of the proposed nematic phase intertwined with collinear and non-coplanar antiferromagnetic orders. We observe a divergence-like antisymmetric elastoresistivity that rapidly develops below the stripe antiferromagnetic transition, consistent with a distinct nematic degree of freedom coupled to the magnetic order. While nematic fluctuations are strongly modulated by an external out-of-plane magnetic field and the onset temperature of resistivity anisotropy shows pronounced strain dependence, the antiferromagnetic transition temperatures remain nearly unchanged under either magnetic field or strain. Additionally, complementary magnetoresistance measurements reveal characteristic signatures of three-state nematicity in a hexagonal system. Our findings demonstrate CoTa$_3$S$_6$ as a unique case of intertwined nematic and AFM orders with distinct origins.

PLANING: A Loosely Coupled Triangle-Gaussian Framework for Streaming 3D Reconstruction

Streaming reconstruction from monocular image sequences remains challenging, as existing methods typically favor either high-quality rendering or accurate geometry, but rarely both. We present PLANING, an efficient on-the-fly reconstruction framework built on a hybrid representation that loosely couples explicit geometric primitives with neural Gaussians, enabling geometry and appearance to be modeled in a decoupled manner. This decoupling supports an online initialization and optimization strategy that separates geometry and appearance updates, yielding stable streaming reconstruction with substantially reduced structural redundancy. PLANING improves dense mesh Chamfer-L2 by 18.52% over PGSR, surpasses ARTDECO by 1.31 dB PSNR, and reconstructs ScanNetV2 scenes in under 100 seconds, over 5x faster than 2D Gaussian Splatting, while matching the quality of offline per-scene optimization. Beyond reconstruction quality, the structural clarity and computational efficiency of PLANING make it well suited for a broad range of downstream applications, such as enabling large-scale scene modeling and simulation-ready environments for embodied AI. PackUV: Packed Gaussian UV Maps for 4D Volumetric Video

Volumetric videos offer immersive 4D experiences, but remain difficult to reconstruct, store, and stream at scale. Existing Gaussian Splatting based methods achieve high-quality reconstruction but break down on long sequences, temporal inconsistency, and fail under large motions and disocclusions. Moreover, their outputs are typically incompatible with conventional video coding pipelines, preventing practical applications. We introduce PackUV, a novel 4D Gaussian representation that maps all Gaussian attributes into a sequence of structured, multi-scale UV atlas, enabling compact, image-native storage. To fit this representation from multi-view videos, we propose PackUV-GS, a temporally consistent fitting method that directly optimizes Gaussian parameters in the UV domain. A flow-guided Gaussian labeling and video keyframing module identifies dynamic Gaussians, stabilizes static regions, and preserves temporal coherence even under large motions and disocclusions. The resulting UV atlas format is the first unified volumetric video representation compatible with standard video codecs (e.g., FFV1) without losing quality, enabling efficient streaming within existing multimedia infrastructure. To evaluate long-duration volumetric capture, we present PackUV-2B, the largest multi-view video dataset to date, featuring more than 50 synchronized cameras, substantial motion, and frequent disocclusions across 100 sequences and 2B (billion) frames. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method surpasses existing baselines in rendering fidelity while scaling to sequences up to 30 minutes with consistent quality.

Evaluating Replay Techniques for Asynchronous Task Handover in Immersive Analytics

Immersive analytics enables collaborative data analysis in shared virtual spaces. While synchronous collaboration in such environments is well-established, real-world analysis often requires an effective task handover - the transfer of knowledge and analytical context between analysts working asynchronously. Traditional handover methods often rely on static annotations that fail to capture the dynamic problem-solving process and spatial context inherent in immersive workflows. To address this handover challenge, we explore session replay as a comprehensive approach for analysts to re-experience a predecessor's work, facilitating a deeper understanding of both the visual details and the insight formation process. Two phases of studies were conducted to establish design guidelines for such replay systems by investigating the impact of viewing platform (PC vs. VR), perspective (first-person vs. third-person), and navigation control (active vs. passive). Phase 1 identified the optimal replay configurations within each viewing platform, revealing a platform-dependent divergence: PC users favored a guided, first-person perspective for its focused detail, while VR users benefited significantly from the agency afforded by a third-person perspective with active navigation. After refining each condition based on user feedback, including developing a novel hybrid 1PP+3PP format for PC, Phase 2 compared the two optimized systems (PC vs. VR). Our results show that the immersive VR replay led to significantly better task comprehension and workflow reconstruction accuracy, demonstrating the critical role of embodied agency in understanding complex analytical processes.

Trustworthy and Fair SkinGPT-R1 for Democratizing Dermatological Reasoning across Diverse Ethnicities

The clinical translation of dermatological AI is hindered by opaque reasoning and systematic performance disparities across skin tones. Here we present SkinGPT-R1, a multimodal large language model that integrates chain-of-thought diagnostic reasoning with a fairness-aware mixture-of-experts architecture for interpretable and equitable skin disease diagnosis. Through parameter-efficient adaptation of a frozen reasoning backbone, SkinGPT-R1 generates structured diagnostic reports comprising visual findings, differential reasoning, and final diagnosis. Across seven external datasets spanning diverse pathologies and imaging conditions, SkinGPT-R1 achieves state-of-the-art accuracy on six benchmarks, including 82.50\% on a challenging 40-class long-tail classification task (+19.30\% over leading baselines). Blinded evaluation by five board-certified dermatologists on 1,000 phenotypically balanced cases yields a mean score of 3.6 out of 5, with the highest ratings in safety (3.8) and reasoning coherence (3.6), indicating that the generated rationales are clinically safe, logically grounded, and suitable for supporting diagnostic decision-making. Critically, SkinGPT-R1 mitigates algorithmic bias across the full Fitzpatrick spectrum, achieving a robust worst-group performance of 41.40\% on the Fitz17k benchmark and a five-fold relative improvement in lower-bound accuracy on the DDI dataset compared to standard multimodal baselines. These results establish a framework for trustworthy, fair, and explainable AI-assisted dermatological diagnosis.

TrajVG: 3D Trajectory-Coupled Visual Geometry Learning

Feed-forward multi-frame 3D reconstruction models often degrade on videos with object motion. Global-reference becomes ambiguous under multiple motions, while the local pointmap relies heavily on estimated relative poses and can drift, causing cross-frame misalignment and duplicated structures. We propose TrajVG, a reconstruction framework that makes cross-frame 3D correspondence an explicit prediction by estimating camera-coordinate 3D trajectories. We couple sparse trajectories, per-frame local point maps, and relative camera poses with geometric consistency objectives: (i) bidirectional trajectory-pointmap consistency with controlled gradient flow, and (ii) a pose consistency objective driven by static track anchors that suppresses gradients from dynamic regions. To scale training to in-the-wild videos where 3D trajectory labels are scarce, we reformulate the same coupling constraints into self-supervised objectives using only pseudo 2D tracks, enabling unified training with mixed supervision. Extensive experiments across 3D tracking, pose estimation, pointmap reconstruction, and video depth show that TrajVG surpasses the current feedforward performance baseline.

SynthVerse: A Large-Scale Diverse Synthetic Dataset for Point Tracking

Point tracking aims to follow visual points through complex motion, occlusion, and viewpoint changes, and has advanced rapidly with modern foundation models. Yet progress toward general point tracking remains constrained by limited high-quality data, as existing datasets often provide insufficient diversity and imperfect trajectory annotations. To this end, we introduce SynthVerse, a large-scale, diverse synthetic dataset specifically designed for point tracking. SynthVerse includes several new domains and object types missing from existing synthetic datasets, such as animated-film-style content, embodied manipulation, scene navigation, and articulated objects. SynthVerse substantially expands dataset diversity by covering a broader range of object categories and providing high-quality dynamic motions and interactions, enabling more robust training and evaluation for general point tracking. In addition, we establish a highly diverse point tracking benchmark to systematically evaluate state-of-the-art methods under broader domain shifts. Extensive experiments and analyses demonstrate that training with SynthVerse yields consistent improvements in generalization and reveal limitations of existing trackers under diverse settings.

Towards Trustworthy Dermatology MLLMs: A Benchmark and Multimodal Evaluator for Diagnostic Narratives

Multimodal large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used to generate dermatology diagnostic narratives directly from images. However, reliable evaluation remains the primary bottleneck for responsible clinical deployment. We introduce a novel evaluation framework that combines DermBench, a meticulously curated benchmark, with DermEval, a robust automatic evaluator, to enable clinically meaningful, reproducible, and scalable assessment. We build DermBench, which pairs 4,000 real-world dermatology images with expert-certified diagnostic narratives and uses an LLM-based judge to score candidate narratives across clinically grounded dimensions, enabling consistent and comprehensive evaluation of multimodal models. For individual case assessment, we train DermEval, a reference-free multimodal evaluator. Given an image and a generated narrative, DermEval produces a structured critique along with an overall score and per-dimension ratings. This capability enables fine-grained, per-case analysis, which is critical for identifying model limitations and biases. Experiments on a diverse dataset of 4,500 cases demonstrate that DermBench and DermEval achieve close alignment with expert ratings, with mean deviations of 0.251 and 0.117 (out of 5), respectively, providing reliable measurement of diagnostic ability and trustworthiness across different multimodal LLMs.

Instance-Adaptive Keypoint Learning with Local-to-Global Geometric Aggregation for Category-Level Object Pose Estimation

Category-level object pose estimation aims to predict the 6D pose and size of previously unseen instances from predefined categories, requiring strong generalization across diverse object instances. Although many previous methods attempt to mitigate intra-class variations, they often struggle with instances exhibiting complex geometries or significant deviations from canonical shapes. To address this issue, we propose INKL-Pose, a novel category-level object pose estimation framework that enables INstance-adaptive Keypoint Learning with local-to-global geometric aggregation. Specifically, our method first predicts semantically consistent and geometrically informative keypoints using an Instance-Adaptive Keypoint Detector, then refines them: (1) a Local Keypoint Feature Aggregator capturing fine-grained geometries, and (2) a Global Keypoint Feature Aggregator using bidirectional Mamba for structural consistency. To enable bidirectional modeling in Mamba, we introduce a simple yet effective Feature Sequence Flipping strategy that preserves spatial coherence while constructing backward feature sequence. Additionally, we design a surface loss and a separation loss to encourage uniform coverage and spatial diversity in keypoint distribution. The resulting keypoints are mapped to a canonical space for 6D pose and size regression. Extensive experiments on CAMERA25, REAL275, and HouseCat6D show that INKL-Pose achieves state-of-the-art performance with 16.7M parameters and runs at 36 FPS on an NVIDIA RTX 4090D GPU.

Ego vs. Exo and Active vs. Passive: Investigating the Individual and Combined Effects of Viewpoint and Navigation on Spatial Immersion and Understanding in Immersive Storytelling

Visual storytelling combines visuals and narratives to communicate important insights. While web-based visual storytelling is well-established, leveraging the next generation of digital technologies for visual storytelling, specifically immersive technologies, remains underexplored. We investigated the impact of the story viewpoint (from the audience's perspective) and navigation (when progressing through the story) on spatial immersion and understanding. First, we collected web-based 3D stories and elicited design considerations from three VR developers. We then adapted four selected web-based stories to an immersive format. Finally, we conducted a user study (N=24) to examine egocentric and exocentric viewpoints, active and passive navigation, and the combinations they form. Our results indicated significantly higher preferences for egocentric+active (higher agency and engagement) and exocentric+passive (higher focus on content). We also found a marginal significance of viewpoints on story understanding and a strong significance of navigation on spatial immersion.

SkinCaRe: A Multimodal Dermatology Dataset Annotated with Medical Caption and Chain-of-Thought Reasoning

With the widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning (DL) and vision large language models (VLLMs), in skin disease diagnosis, the need for interpretability becomes crucial. However, existing dermatology datasets are limited in their inclusion of concept-level meta-labels, and none offer rich medical descriptions in natural language. This deficiency impedes the advancement of LLM-based methods in dermatologic diagnosis. To address this gap and provide a meticulously annotated dermatology dataset with comprehensive natural language descriptions, we introduce \textbf{SkinCaRe}, a comprehensive multimodal resource that unifies \textit{SkinCAP} and \textit{SkinCoT}. \textbf{SkinCAP} comprises 4,000 images sourced from the Fitzpatrick 17k skin disease dataset and the Diverse Dermatology Images dataset, annotated by board-certified dermatologists to provide extensive medical descriptions and captions. In addition, we introduce \textbf{SkinCoT}, a curated dataset pairing 3,041 dermatologic images with clinician-verified, hierarchical chain-of-thought (CoT) diagnoses. Each diagnostic narrative is rigorously evaluated against six quality criteria and iteratively refined until it meets a predefined standard of clinical accuracy and explanatory depth. Together, SkinCAP (captioning) and SkinCoT (reasoning), collectively referred to as SkinCaRe, encompass 7,041 expertly curated dermatologic cases and provide a unified and trustworthy resource for training multimodal models that both describe and explain dermatologic images. SkinCaRe is publicly available at https://huggingface.co/datasets/yuhos16/SkinCaRe.

A CNN-LSTM Quantifier for Single Access Point CSI Indoor Localization

This paper proposes a combined network structure between convolutional neural network (CNN) and long-short term memory (LSTM) quantifier for WiFi fingerprinting indoor localization. In contrast to conventional methods that utilize only spatial data with classification models, our CNN-LSTM network extracts both space and time features of the received channel state information (CSI) from a single router. Furthermore, the proposed network builds a quantification model rather than a limited classification model as in most of the literature work, which enables the estimation of testing points that are not identical to the reference points. We analyze the instability of CSI and demonstrate a mitigation solution using a comprehensive filter and normalization scheme. The localization accuracy is investigated through extensive on-site experiments with several mobile devices including mobile phone (Nexus 5) and laptop (Intel 5300 NIC) on hundreds of testing locations. Using only a single WiFi router, our structure achieves an average localization error of 2.5~m with $\mathrm{80\%}$ of the errors under 4~m, which outperforms the other reported algorithms by approximately $\mathrm{50\%}$ under the same test environment.

Passive Indoor Localization with WiFi Fingerprints

This paper proposes passive WiFi indoor localization. Instead of using WiFi signals received by mobile devices as fingerprints, we use signals received by routers to locate the mobile carrier. Consequently, software installation on the mobile device is not required. To resolve the data insufficiency problem, flow control signals such as request to send (RTS) and clear to send (CTS) are utilized. In our model, received signal strength indicator (RSSI) and channel state information (CSI) are used as fingerprints for several algorithms, including deterministic, probabilistic and neural networks localization algorithms. We further investigated localization algorithms performance through extensive on-site experiments with various models of phones at hundreds of testing locations. We demonstrate that our passive scheme achieves an average localization error of 0.8 m when the phone is actively transmitting data frames and 1.5 m when it is not transmitting data frames.
