Random Projection Tests via Cauchy Combination for Two-Sample Mean

High-dimensional two-sample mean testing is challenging when the dimension exceeds the sample size. The random projection method proposed by Lopes et al. (2011) addresses this difficulty by mapping the data to a lower dimension space where Hotelling's $T^2$ statistic can be applied, while retaining useful covariance information and gaining power when the variables exhibit non-negligible covariance structure. However, single projection tests may be sensitive to the realized projection matrix, whereas existing multiple projection procedures often rely on resampling or simulation for calibration, with limited theoretical understanding. Moreover, projection-based Hotelling tests may be less sensitive to sparse mean differences. To address these limitations, we propose a Cauchy-combined random projection test (CRPT), which applies Hotelling's $T^2$ test after multiple independent random projections and combines the projected $p$-values through the Cauchy transformation. The proposed method retains the ability of random projection methods to incorporate covariance information while reducing reliance on any single projection. Under the Gaussian assumption, we establish the null tail behavior of the proposed statistic and further investigate its asymptotic power under suitable alternatives. To improve sensitivity to sparse alternatives, we further develop a power-enhanced version of CRPT. Simulation studies and real data analysis are conducted to examine the performance and practical applicability of the proposed procedures.

Classification of regular Cayley maps of skew-type three on semidihedral groups

It is well known that every regular Cayley map $M = \CM(G,X,p)$ on a finite group $G$ with respect to an inverse-closed generating set $X$ of $G$ and a specified cyclic permutation $p$ on $X$ corresponds to a skew morphism $\varphi$ on $G$ such that the restriction of $\varphi$ to $X$ is $p$. The skew-type of the map $M$ is defined as the index $[G:\Ker \varphi]$, which equals the number of distinct values in $\mathbb{Z}_{|\varphi|}$ taken by the associated power function $\pi$ of the skew morphism $\varphi$. In this paper, we develop a covering theory of skew morphisms and as an application we provide a classification of regular Cayley maps of skew-type three on the semidihedral groups.

BCGGAN: Ballistocardiogram artifact removal in simultaneous EEG-fMRI using generative adversarial network

Due to its advantages of high temporal and spatial resolution, the technology of simultaneous electroencephalogram-functional magnetic resonance imaging (EEG-fMRI) acquisition and analysis has attracted much attention, and has been widely used in various research fields of brain science. However, during the fMRI of the brain, ballistocardiogram (BCG) artifacts can seriously contaminate the EEG. As an unpaired problem, BCG artifact removal now remains a considerable challenge. Aiming to provide a solution, this paper proposed a novel modular generative adversarial network (GAN) and corresponding training strategy to improve the network performance by optimizing the parameters of each module. In this manner, we hope to improve the local representation ability of the network model, thereby improving its overall performance and obtaining a reliable generator for BCG artifact removal. Moreover, the proposed method does not rely on additional reference signal or complex hardware equipment. Experimental results show that, compared with multiple methods, the technique presented in this paper can remove the BCG artifact more effectively while retaining essential EEG information.
