Evolution of Incommensurate Superstructure and Electronic Structure with Pb Substitution in (Bi$_{2-x}$Pb$_{x}$)Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ Superconductors

High-quality Bi$_{2-x}$Pb$_{x}$Sr$_2$CaCu$_2$O$_{8+δ}$ (Bi2212) single crystals have been successfully grown by the traveling solvent floating zone technique with a wide range of Pb substitution ($x=0-0.8$). The samples are characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM) and measured by high resolution laser-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) with different photon energies. A systematic evolution of the electronic structure and superstructure with Pb substitution has been revealed for the first time. The superstructure shows a significant change with Pb substitution and the incommensurate modulation vector ($\textbf{Q}$) decreases with increasing Pb substitution. In the meantime, the superstructure intensity from ARPES measurements also decreases dramatically with increasing Pb concentration. The superstructure in Bi2212 can be effectively suppressed by Pb substitution and it nearly disappears with a Pb substitution of $x=0.8$. We also find that the superstructure bands in ARPES measurements depend sensitively on the photon energy of lasers used; they can become even stronger than the main band when using a laser photon energy of 10.897 eV. These results provide important information on the origin of the incommensurate superstructure and its control and suppression in bismuth-based high temperature superconductors.

Testing Untestable Neural Machine Translation: An Industrial Case

Neural Machine Translation (NMT) has been widely adopted recently due to its advantages compared with the traditional Statistical Machine Translation (SMT). However, an NMT system still often produces translation failures due to the complexity of natural language and sophistication in designing neural networks. While in-house black-box system testing based on reference translations (i.e., examples of valid translations) has been a common practice for NMT quality assurance, an increasingly critical industrial practice, named in-vivo testing, exposes unseen types or instances of translation failures when real users are using a deployed industrial NMT system. To fill the gap of lacking test oracle for in-vivo testing of an NMT system, in this paper, we propose a new approach for automatically identifying translation failures, without requiring reference translations for a translation task; our approach can directly serve as a test oracle for in-vivo testing. Our approach focuses on properties of natural language translation that can be checked systematically and uses information from both the test inputs (i.e., the texts to be translated) and the test outputs (i.e., the translations under inspection) of the NMT system. Our evaluation conducted on real-world datasets shows that our approach can effectively detect targeted property violations as translation failures. Our experiences on deploying our approach in both production and development environments of WeChat (a messenger app with over one billion monthly active users) demonstrate high effectiveness of our approach along with high industry impact.

CoMID: Context-based Multi-Invariant Detection for Monitoring Cyber-Physical Software

Cyber-physical software continually interacts with its physical environment for adaptation in order to deliver smart services. However, the interactions can be subject to various errors when the software's assumption on its environment no longer holds, thus leading to unexpected misbehavior or even failure. To address this problem, one promising way is to conduct runtime monitoring of invariants, so as to prevent cyber-physical software from entering such errors (a.k.a. abnormal states). To effectively detect abnormal states, we in this article present an approach, named Context-based Multi-Invariant Detection (CoMID), which consists of two techniques: context-based trace grouping and multi-invariant detection. The former infers contexts to distinguish different effective scopes for CoMID's derived invariants, and the latter conducts ensemble evaluation of multiple invariants to detect abnormal states. We experimentally evaluate CoMID on real-world cyber-physical software. The results show that CoMID achieves a 5.7-28.2% higher true-positive rate and a 6.8-37.6% lower false-positive rate in detecting abnormal states, as compared with state-of-the-art approaches (i.e., Daikon and ZoomIn). When deployed in field tests, CoMID's runtime monitoring improves the success rate of cyber-physical software in its task executions by 15.3-31.7%.

Doping effects of Cr on the physical properties of BaFe$_{1.9-x}$Ni$_{0.1}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$

We present a systematic study on the heavily Cr doped iron pnictides BaFe$_{1.9-x}$Ni$_{0.1}$Cr$_{x}$As$_{2}$ by using elastic neutron scattering, high-resolution synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), resistivity and Hall transport measurements. When the Cr concentration increases from $x=$ 0 to 0.8, neutron diffraction experiments suggest that the collinear antiferromagnetism persists in the whole doping range, where the Néel temperature $T_N$ coincides with the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural transition temperature $T_s$, and both of them keeps around 35 K. The magnetic ordered moment, on the other hand, increases within increasing $x$ until $x=$ 0.5, and then decreases with further increasing $x$. Detailed refinement of the powder XRD patterns reveals that the Cr substitutions actually stretch the FeAs$_4$ tetrahedron along the $c-$axis and lift the arsenic height away Fe-Fe plane. Transport results indicate that the charge carriers become more localized upon Cr doping, then changes from electron-type to hole-type around $x=$ 0.5. Our results suggest that the ordered moment and the ordered temperature of static magnetism in iron pnictides can be decoupled and tuned separately by chemical doping.

Odd and even modes of neutron spin resonance in the bilayer iron-based superconductor CaKFe$_4$As$_4$

We report an inelastic neutron scattering study on the spin resonance in the bilayer iron-based superconductor CaKFe$_4$As$_4$. In contrast to its quasi-two-dimensional electron structure, three strongly $L$-dependent modes of spin resonance are found below $T_c=35$ K. The mode energies are below and linearly scale with the total superconducting gaps summed on the nesting hole and electron pockets, essentially in agreement with the results in cuprate and heavy fermion superconductors. This observation supports the sign-reversed Cooper pairing mechanism under multiple pairing channels and resolves the long-standing puzzles concerning the broadening and dispersive spin resonance peak in iron pnictides. More importantly, the triple resonant modes can be classified into odd and even symmetries with respect to the distance of Fe-Fe planes within the Fe-As bilayer unit. Thus, our results closely resemble those in the bilayer cuprates with nondegenerate spin excitations, suggesting that these two high-$T_c$ superconducting families share a common nature.

Neutron spin resonance in the 112-type iron-based superconductor

We use inelastic neutron scattering to study the low-energy spin excitations of 112-type iron pnictide Ca$_{0.82}$La$_{0.18}$Fe$_{0.96}$Ni$_{0.04}$As$_{2}$ with bulk superconductivity below $T_c=22$ K. A two-dimensional spin resonance mode is found around $E=$ 11 meV, where the resonance energy is almost temperature independent and linearly scales with $T_c$ along with other iron-based superconductors. Polarized neutron analysis reveals the resonance is nearly isotropic in spin space without any $L$ modulations. Due to the unique monoclinic structure with additional zigzag arsenic chains, the As $4p$ orbitals contribute to a three-dimensional hole pocket around $Γ$ point and an extra electron pocket at $X$ point. Our results suggest that the energy and momentum distribution of spin resonance does not directly response to the $k_z$ dependence of fermiology, and the spin resonance intrinsically is a spin-1 mode from singlet-triplet excitations of the Cooper pairs in the case of weak spin-orbital coupling.

Protonation induced high-Tc phases in iron-based superconductors evidenced by NMR and magnetization measurements

Chemical substitution during growth is a well-established method to manipulate electronic states of quantum materials, and leads to rich spectra of phase diagrams in cuprate and iron-based superconductors. Here we report a novel and generic strategy to achieve nonvolatile electron doping in series of (i.e. 11 and 122 structures) Fe-based superconductors by ionic liquid gating induced protonation at room temperature. Accumulation of protons in bulk compounds induces superconductivity in the parent compounds, and enhances the Tc largely in some superconducting ones. Furthermore, the existence of proton in the lattice enables the first proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) study to probe directly superconductivity. Using FeS as a model system, our NMR study reveals an emergent high-Tc phase with no coherence peak which is hard to measure by NMR with other isotopes. This novel electric-field-induced proton evolution opens up an avenue for manipulation of competing electronic states (e.g. Mott insulators), and may provide an innovative way for a broad perspective of NMR measurements with greatly enhanced detecting resolution.

Unified phase diagram for iron-based superconductors

High-temperature superconductivity is closely adjacent to a long-range antiferromagnet, which is called a parent compound. In cuprates, all parent compounds are alike and carrier doping leads to superconductivity, so a unified phase diagram can be drawn. However, the properties of parent compounds for iron-based superconductors show significant diversity and both carrier and isovalent dopings can cause superconductivity, which casts doubt on the idea that there exists a unified phase diagram for them. Here we show that the ordered moments in a variety of iron pnictides are inversely proportional to the effective Curie constants of their nematic susceptibility. This unexpected scaling behavior suggests that the magnetic ground states of iron pnictides can be achieved by tuning the strength of nematic fluctuations. Therefore, a unified phase diagram can be established where superconductivity emerges from a hypothetical parent compound with a large ordered moment but weak nematic fluctuations, which suggests that iron-based superconductors are strongly correlated electron systems.

Nature of the Antiferromagnetic and Nematic Transitions in Sr$_{1-x}$Ba$_x$Fe$_{1.97}$Ni$_{0.03}$As$_2$

We have systematically studied the antiferromagnetic and nematic transitions in Sr$_{1-x}$Ba$_x$Fe$_{1.97}$Ni$_{0.03}$As$_2$ by magnetic susceptibility and uniaxial-pressure resistivity measurements, respectively. The derivatives of the temperature dependence of both magnetic and nematic susceptibilities show clearly sharp peak when the transitions are first-order. Accordingly, we show that while both of the magnetic and nematic transitions change from first-order to second-order with increasing Barium doping level, there is a narrow doping range where the former becomes second-order but the latter remains first-order, which has never been realized before in other systems. Moreover, the antiferromagnetic and nematic transition temperatures become different and the jump of nematic susceptibility becomes small in this intermediate doping range. Our results provide key information on the interplay between magnetic and nematic transitions. Concerning the current debate on the microscopic models for nematicity in iron-based superconductors, these observations agree with the magnetic scenario for an itinerant fermionic model in excellent details.

Quasi-2D behavior of 112-type iron-based superconductors

Fluctuation magnetoconductivity and magnetization above the superconducting transition temperature (Tc) are measured on the recently discovered 112 family of iron-based superconductors (IBS), Ca$_{1-x}$La$_x$Fe$_{1-y}$Ni$_y$As$_2$, which presents an extra As-As chain spacer-layer. The analysis in terms of a generalization of the Lawrence-Doniach (LD) approach to finite applied magnetic fields indicates that these compounds are among the most anisotropic IBS ($γ$ up to ~30), and provides a compelling evidence of a quasi-two-dimensional behavior for doping levels near the optimal one.

Crystal growth and phase diagram of 112-type iron pnictide superconductor Ca1-yLayFe1-xNixAs2

We report a systematic crystal growth and characterization of Ca$_{1-y}$La$_{y}$Fe$_{1-x}$Ni$_{x}$As$_{2}$, the newly discovered 112-type iron-based superconductor. After substituting Fe by a small amount of Ni, bulk superconductivity is successfully obtained in high quality single crystals sized up to 6 mm. Resistivity measurements indicate common features for transport properties in this 112-type iron pnictide, suggest strong scattering from chemical dopants. Together with the superconducting transition temperature $T_c$, and the Neel temperature $T_N$ determined by the elastic neutron scattering, we sketch a three-dimensional phase diagram in the combination of both Ni and La dopings.

A New Non-MDS Hash Function Resisting Birthday Attack and Meet-in-the-middle Attack

To examine the integrity and authenticity of an IP address efficiently and economically, this paper proposes a new non-Merkle-Damgard structural (non-MDS) hash function called JUNA that is based on a multivariate permutation problem and an anomalous subset product problem to which no subexponential time solutions are found so far. JUNA includes an initialization algorithm and a compression algorithm, and converts a short message of n bits which is regarded as only one block into a digest of m bits, where 80 <= m <= 232 and 80 <= m <= n <= 4096. The analysis and proof show that the new hash is one-way, weakly collision-free, and strongly collision-free, and its security against existent attacks such as birthday attack and meet-in-the- middle attack is to O(2 ^ m). Moreover, a detailed proof that the new hash function is resistant to the birthday attack is given. Compared with the Chaum-Heijst-Pfitzmann hash based on a discrete logarithm problem, the new hash is lightweight, and thus it opens a door to convenience for utilization of lightweight digital signing schemes.

A Public Key Cryptoscheme Using Bit-pairs and Probabilistic Mazes

This paper gives the definition and property of a bit-pair shadow, and devises the three algorithms of a public key cryptoscheme called JUOAN that is based on a multivariate permutation problem and an anomalous subset product problem to which no subexponential time solutions are found so far, and regards a bit-pair as a manipulation unit. The authors demonstrate that the decryption algorithm is correct, deduce the probability that a plaintext solution is nonunique is nearly zero, analyze the security of the new cryptoscheme against extracting a private key from a public key and recovering a plaintext from a ciphertext on the assumption that an integer factorization problem, a discrete logarithm problem, and a low-density subset sum problem can be solved efficiently, and prove that the new cryptoscheme using random padding and random permutation is semantically secure. The analysis shows that the bit-pair method increases the density D of a related knapsack to a number more than 1, and decreases the modulus length lgM of the new cryptoscheme to 464, 544, or 640.

Mining Behavioral Patterns from Millions of Android Users

The prevalence of smart mobile devices has promoted the popularity of mobile applications (a.k.a. apps). Supporting mobility has become a promising trend in software engineering research. This article presents an empirical study of behavioral service profiles collected from millions of users whose devices are deployed with Wandoujia, a leading Android app store service in China. The dataset of Wandoujia service profiles consists of two kinds of user behavioral data from using 0.28 million free Android apps, including (1) app management activities (i.e., downloading, updating, and uninstalling apps) from over 17 million unique users and (2) app network usage from over 6 million unique users. We explore multiple aspects of such behavioral data and present patterns of app usage. Based on the findings as well as derived knowledge, we also suggest some new open opportunities and challenges that can be explored by the research community, including app development, deployment, delivery, revenue, etc.

Mitigating Redundant Data Transfers for Mobile Web Applications via App-Specific Cache Space

Redundant transfer of resources is a critical issue for compromising the performance of mobile Web applications (a.k.a., apps) in terms of data traffic, load time, and even energy consumption. Evidence shows that the current cache mechanisms are far from satisfactory. With lessons learned from how native apps manage their resources, in this paper, we propose the ReWAP approach to fundamentally reducing redundant transfers by restructuring the resource loading of mobile Web apps. ReWAP is based on an efficient mechanism of resource packaging where stable resources are encapsulated and maintained into a package, and such a package shall be loaded always from the local storage and updated by explicitly refreshing. By retrieving and analyzing the update of resources, ReWAP maintains resource packages that can accurately identify which resources can be loaded from the local storage for a considerably long period. ReWAP also provides a wrapper for mobile Web apps to enable loading and updating resource packages in the local storage as well as loading resources from resource packages. ReWAP can be easily and seamlessly deployed into existing mobile Web architectures with minimal modifications, and is transparent to end-users. We evaluate ReWAP based on continuous 15-day access traces of 50 mobile Web apps that suffer heavily from the problem of redundant transfers. Compared to the original mobile Web apps with cache enabled, ReWAP can significantly reduce the data traffic, with the median saving up to 51%. In addition, ReWAP can incur only very minor runtime overhead of the client-side browsers.

Cryptanalyzing image encryption using chaotic logistic map

Chaotic behavior arises from very simple non-linear dynamical equation of logistic map which makes it was used often in designing chaotic image encryption schemes. However, some properties of chaotic maps can also facilitate cryptanalysis especially when they are implemented in digital domain. Utilizing stable distribution of the chaotic states generated by iterating the logistic map, this paper presents a typical example to show insecurity of an image encryption scheme using chaotic logistic map. This work will push encryption and chaos be combined in a more effective way.

Nematic Quantum Critical Fluctuations in BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$

We have systematically studied the nematic fluctuations in the electron-doped iron-based superconductor BaFe$_{2-x}$Ni$_x$As$_2$ by measuring the in-plane resistance change under uniaxial pressure. While the nematic quantum critical point can be identified through the measurements along the (110) direction as studied previously, quantum and thermal critical fluctuations cannot be distinguished due to similar Curie-Weiss-like behaviors. Here we find that a sizable pressure-dependent resistivity along the (100) direction is present in all doping levels, which is against the simple picture of an Ising-type nematic model. The signal along the (100) direction becomes maximum at optimal doping, suggesting that it is associated with nematic quantum critical fluctuations. Our results indicate that thermal fluctuations from striped antiferromagnetic order dominate the underdoped regime along the (110) direction. We argue that either there is a strong coupling between the quantum critical fluctuations and the fermions, or more exotically, a higher symmetry may be present around optimal doping.

Breaking a novel image encryption scheme based on improved hyperchaotic sequences

Recently, a novel image encryption scheme based on improved hyperchaotic sequences was proposed. A pseudo-random number sequence, generated by a hyper-chaos system, is used to determine two involved encryption functions, bitwise exclusive or (XOR) operation and modulo addition. It was reported that the scheme can be broken with some pairs of chosen plain-images and the corresponding cipherimages. This paper re-evaluates the security of the encryption scheme and finds that the encryption scheme can be broken with only one known plain-image. The performance of the known-plaintext attack, in terms of success probability and computation load, become even much better when two known plain-images are available. In addition, security defects on insensitivity of the encryption result with respect to changes of secret key and plain-image are also reported.
