Generalized geometrical coupling for vector field localization on thick brane in asymptotic Anti-de Sitter spacetime

It is known that a five-dimensional free vector field $A_{M}$ cannot be localized on Randall-Sundrum (RS)-like thick branes, namely, the thick branes embedded in asymptotic Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. In order to localize a vector field on the RS-like thick brane, an extra coupling term should be introduced. In this paper, we generalize the geometrical coupling mechanism by adding two mass terms ($αRg^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}+βR^{MN}A_{M}A_{N}$) into the action. We decompose the fundamental vector field $A_{M}$ into three parts: transverse vector part $\hat{A}_μ$, scalar parts $ϕ$ and $A_{5}$. Then, we find that the transverse vector part $\hat{A}_μ$ decouples from the scalar parts. In order to eliminate the tachyonic modes of $\hat{A}_μ$, the two coupling parameters $α$ and $β$ should satisfy a relation. Combining the restricted condition, we can get a combination parameter as $γ=\frac{3}{2}\pm\sqrt{1+12α}$. Only if $γ>1/2$, the zero mode of $\hat{A}_μ$ can be localized on the RS-like thick brane. We also investigate the resonant character of the vector part $\hat{A}_μ$ for the general RS-like thick brane with the warp factor $A(z)=-\ln(1+k^2z^2)/2$ by choosing the relative probability method. The result shows that, only for $γ>3$, the massive resonant Kaluza-Klein modes can exist. The number of resonant Kaluza-Klein states increases with the combination parameter $γ$, and the lifetime of the first resonant state can be long enough as the age of our universe. This indicates that the vector resonances might be considered as one of the candidates of dark matter.

Innermost stable circular orbit of spinning particle in charged spinning black hole background

In this paper we investigate the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for a classical spinning test particle in the background of Kerr-Newman black hole. It is shown that the orbit of the spinning particle is related to the spin of the test particle. The motion of the spinning test particle will be superluminal if its spin is too large. We give an additional condition by considering the superluminal constraint for the ISCO in the black hole backgrounds. We obtain numerically the relations between the ISCO and the properties of the black holes and the test particle. It is found that the radius of the ISCO for a spinning test particle is smaller than that of a non-spinning test particle in the black hole backgrounds.

Localization and mass spectra of various matter fields on Weyl thin brane

It has been shown that the thin brane model in a five-dimensional Weyl gravity can deal with the wrong-signed Friedmann-like equation in the Randall--Sundrum-1 (RS1) model. In the Weyl brane model, there are also two branes with opposite brane tensions, but the four-dimensional graviton (the gravity zero mode) is localized near the negative tension brane, while our four-dimensional universe is localized on the positive tension brane. In this paper, we consider the mass spectra of various bulk matter fields (i.e., scalar, vector, and fermion fields) on the Weyl brane. It is shown that the zero modes of those matter fields can be localized on the positive tension brane under some conditions. The mass spectra of the bulk matter fields are equidistant for the higher excited states, and relatively sparse for the lower excited states. The size of the extra dimension determines the gap of the mass spectra. We also consider the correction to the Newtonian potential in this model and it is proportional to $1/r^{3}$.

Localization of Vector Field on Pure Geometrical Thick Brane

In this paper, we investigate the localization of a five-dimensional vector field on a pure geometrical thick brane. In previous work, it was shown that a free massless vector field cannot be localized on such thick brane. Hence we introduce the interaction between the vector field and the background scalar field. Two types of couplings are constructed as examples. We get a typical volcano potential for the first type of coupling and a finite square-well-like potential for the second one. Both of the two types of couplings ensure that the vector zero mode can be localized on the pure geometrical thick brane under some conditions.
