Time-resolved role of coherence and delocalization in photosynthetic energy transfer from an extended exciton model

Photosynthetic antenna complexes achieve high quantum efficiency through exciton transport in coupled pigment networks. Conventional Frenkel-exciton models treat each chromophore as a structureless site and neglect internal electronic degrees of freedom that can influence coherence and delocalization. Here we develop an extended excitonic network model that preserves the pigment-pigment coupling topology while introducing tunable intrachromophoric electronic mixing within the single-excitation manifold. Using a Lindblad open-quantum-system framework, we quantify coherence, delocalization, and trapping efficiency across parameter space. We show that intrachromophoric mixing plays a time-dependent role: enhanced mixing on the antenna side promotes short-time coherent delocalization and improves excitation injection, whereas excessive mixing near the trapping site induces persistent delocalization and suppresses transfer efficiency. Simulated two-dimensional electronic spectra reveal enhanced cross peaks and systematic blue shifts, providing spectroscopic signatures of coherence-modulated transport. These results establish a microscopic connection between internal electronic structure and quantum transport performance in excitonic networks.

Giant nonlinear optical chirality in twisted heterobilayers

Twisting two dissimilar monolayer semiconductors induces structural chirality that remains largely elusive in linear optics but becomes remarkably pronounced in the nonlinear regime. Here we demonstrate that MoS2/WSe2 heterobilayers exhibit giant, twist-tunable nonlinear chirality in second-harmonic generation (SHG). The sign of SHG circular dichroism is governed by structural handedness, and its magnitude reaches 1.96 near a 30° twist angle under 1260-nm excitation, approaching the theoretical limit of 2. Furthermore, reversed chirality is observed when light is incident from opposite directions. Using a layer-resolved model, we attribute this phenomenon to helicity-dependent interference between the two monolayer SHG fields, mediated by a nonlinear Pancharatnam-Berry phase. These findings establish that the relative orientation of atomically thin layers can deterministically control nonlinear chiral responses, identifying twisted 2D heterostructures as a versatile platform for nonlinear chiral photonics, frequency conversion, and ultracompact light-matter interfaces.

Tracking doublon-holon dynamics in high-harmonic generation from Mott insulators

High-harmonic generation (HHG) in strongly correlated Mott insulators is investigated using exact diagonalization and time-dependent density-matrix propagation of a laser-driven one-dimensional Hubbard chain. By projecting onto equilibrium Hubbard bands, we use the doublon population and its dynamics as a diagnostic to analyze intraband (spin-wave-like) and interband (doublon-holon creation) excitation channels. A filling-dependent crossover emerges: Bloch-like intraband response at dilute filling, mixed dynamics at intermediate filling, and interband-dominated HHG with plateau and cutoff near half filling. In the considered parameter range, increasing interaction strength $U$ strongly suppresses interband contributions through the enlarged Mott gap and correlation-induced localization. Intra- and interband current decomposition reveals opposing flows below the Mott gap (Δ_{\mathrm{Mott}}) and selective dephasing suppression of interband coherence, enhancing net doublon accumulation. Time-frequency analysis uncovers the filling-dependent features of quantum trajectories, manifesting in distinct below-Δ_{\mathrm{Mott}} emission. This doublon-based analysis provides a transparent link between equilibrium spin-charge separation and nonequilibrium strong-field response, and clarifies how dephasing modifies interband coherence and doublon accumulation.

Quantum Trajectory Separation and Attosecond Mapping in Liquid High-Harmonic Generation

High-harmonic generation (HHG) from liquids offers a potential pathway to attosecond spectroscopy in chemically complex and disordered environments, yet fundamental questions remain open: whether liquid harmonic emission preserves well-defined attosecond synchronization, and whether harmonic emission can involve simultaneous contributions from multiple quantum trajectories with distinct excursion times despite strong disorder and scattering. Here, we address these issues experimentally by resolving the trajectory-dependent temporal structure of liquid HHG. By optimizing the laser focusing geometry, we achieve clear spatial discrimination of short- and long-trajectory contributions, providing direct evidence for the existence of multiple quantum trajectories in liquids. Using a phase-controlled two-color driving field, we independently retrieve the attochirp associated with each trajectory and demonstrate opposite energy-time correlations for short and long trajectories, establishing a trajectory-resolved energy-time mapping in liquid HHG. All observations are well reproduced by semiclassical recollision simulations. These results place liquid HHG on the same conceptual footing as gas- and solid-phase HHG and establish a robust foundation for attosecond-resolved spectroscopy of ultrafast electronic and chemical dynamics in liquid environments.

Multiple plateaus of high-sideband generation from Floquet matters

We theoretically report that high-order sideband generation (HSG) from Floquet matters driven by a strong terahertz light while engineered by weak infrared light can achieve multiple plateau HSG. The Floquet-engineering systems exhibit distinctive spectroscopic characteristics that go beyond the HSG processes in field-free band-structure systems. The spatial-temporal dynamics analyses under Floquet-Bloch and time-reversal-symmetry theories clarify the spectral and its odd-even characteristics in the HSG spectrum. Our work demonstrates the HSG of Floquet matters via Floquet engineering and indicates a promising way to extract Floquet material parameters in future experiments.

Temperature-induced dephasing in high-order harmonic generation from solids

High harmonic generation (HHG) in solid and gaseous targets has been proven to be a powerful avenue for the generation of attosecond pulses, whereas the influence of electron-phonon scattering on HHG is a critical outstanding problem. Here we first introduce a temperature dependent lattice vibration model by characterizing the spacing fluctuation. Our results reveal that (i) structural disorder induced by lattice vibration does not lead to generation of even-order harmonics; (ii) dephasing of HHG occurs as the lattice temperature is growing; (iii) an open-trajectory picture predicts the maximal photon energy in the temperature-dependent HHG spectra. Moreover, a formula assessing dephasing time with lattice temperature is proposed to identify the timescale of electron-phonon scattering. This work paves a way to study non-Born-Oppenheimer effect in solids driven by strong field.

Probing dephasing time of crystals via spectral properties of high-harmonic generation

Coherent time is a characteristic time in the extreme nonlinear optics regime and thus generally introduced as the dephasing time in the simulations of the solid-state high-harmonic generation. This characteristic time linked with the coherent decay of quantum trajectory controls the emergence of the spectral splittings in the high harmonic spectroscopy, which can been attributed to the temporal interference between two adjacent harmonic emission channels. To reproduce the harmonic peaks and spectral splittings, a temporal two-slit interference model in the momentum space is introduced. In addition, mechanisms of spectral splitting provide a state-of-the-art avenue to probe the characteristic elapse between electron and hole. Based on the subfemtosecond resolution of the spectral interference opening and closing zones in the wavelength-dependent high-order harmonic spectra, we also propose an alternative scheme to probe the dephasing time of crystals by the feasible laser pulses in present experimental setups.

Orientation-dependent transition rule in high-order harmonic generation from solids

We study the role of transition rule in high-order harmonic generation from solids driven by linearly polarized laser elds. The orientation-dependent transition dipoles can regulate the emergence of the multi-plateau structure. In the multi-plateau zone, however, di erent from the mechanisms of step-by-step excitation reported previously, we nd that the emission time and orientationdependent yields exhibit synchronization and more ne patterns, respectively. And the orientationdependent yields and its ne patterns can be attributed to the collective contribution of the transition rule and quantum-path interference. Therefore, to better understand the constructive and destructive patterns in the orientation-dependent yields, we propose a scheme of intercycle interference, which can further be utilized as a tool to image the structure of the solids and provide an avenue to optimize the electron dynamics in solids for the production of attosecond pulses in a compact setup.

High-order harmonic generation from 2D periodic potentials in circularly and bichromatic circularly polarized laser fields

We studied the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) from 2D solid materials in circularly and bichromatic circularly polarized laser fields numerically by simulating the dynamics of single-active-electron processes in 2D periodic potentials. Contrary to the absence of HHG in the atomic case, circular HHGs below the bandgap with different helicities are produced from intraband transitions in solids with $C_4$ symmetry driven by circularly polarized lasers. Harmonics above the bandgap are elliptically polarized due to the interband transitions. High-order elliptically polarized harmonics can be generated efficiently by both co-rotating and counter-rotating bicircular mid-infrared lasers. The cutoff energy, ellipticity, phase, and intensity of the harmonics can be tuned by the control of the relative phase difference between the 1$ω$ and 2$ω$ fields in bicircularly polarized lasers, which can be utilized to image the structure of solids.

Insight into High-order Harmonic Generation from Solids: The Contributions of the Bloch Wave-packets Moving on the Group and Phase Velocities

We study numerically the Bloch electron wavepacket dynamics in periodic potentials to simulate laser-solid interactions. We introduce a new perspective in the coordinate space combined with the motion of the Bloch electron wavepackets moving at group and phase velocities under the laser fields. This model interprets the origins of the two contributions (intra- and interband transitions) of the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) by investigating the local and global behavior of the wavepackets. It also elucidates the underlying physical picture of the HHG intensity enhancement by means of carrier-envelope phase (CEP), chirp and inhomogeneous fields. It provides a deep insight into the emission of high-order harmonics from solids. This model is instructive for experimental measurements and provides a new avenue to distinguish mechanisms of the HHG from solids in diffrent laser fields.

Mechanism of High-Order Harmonic Generation from Periodic Potentials

We study numerically the Bloch electron wave-packet dynamics in periodic potentials to simulate laser-solid interactions. We introduce a quasi-classical model in the \emph{k} space combined with the energy band structure to understand the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) process occurring in a subcycle timescale. This model interprets the multiple plateau structure in HHG spectra well and the linear dependence of cutoff energies on the amplitude of vector potential of the laser fields. It also predicts the emission time of HHG, which agrees well with the results by solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation (TDSE). It provides a scheme to reconstruct the energy dispersion relations in Brillouin zone and to control the trajectories of HHG by varying the shape of laser pulses. This model is instructive for experimental measurements.

Enhanced high-order harmonic generation from periodic potentials in inhomogeneous laser fields

We theoretically study high-order harmonic generation (HHG) from solid-phase systems in spatially inhomogeneous strong laser fields originated by resonant plasmons within a metallic nanostructure. The intensity of the second plateau in HHG may be enhanced by two-three orders and be comparable with the intensity of the first plateau. This is due to bigger transition probabilities to higher conduction bands. It provides us a practical way to increase the yields of HHG with laser intensity below the damage threshold. It presents a promising way to triple the range of HHG spectra in experimental measurements. It also allows to generate intense isolated attosecond pulse from solids driven by few-cycle laser fields.
