Normalized ground states and a mass-constrained scattering threshold for the inhomogeneous NLS with an inverse-square potential

We study the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with an inverse-square potential $$ i\partial_t u+Δu-a|x|^{-2}u+|x|^{-b}|u|^αu=0, \qquad (t,x)\in\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^{N}, $$ in the mass-supercritical and energy-subcritical regime $$ \frac{4-2b}{N}<α<\frac{4-2b}{N-2}, $$ where $N\ge3$ and $0<b<2$. Two main lines of research have developed largely independently for this model: scattering theory below the ground-state threshold and the variational analysis of solutions with prescribed mass. In this work, we establish a connection between these two approaches.

Remarks on the well-posedness of the energy-critical inhomogeneous Hartree equation

We study the energy-critical inhomogeneous Hartree equation in space dimensions three and higher. Previous local well-posedness results left open the parameter regime where the inhomogeneity exponent is small and the Riesz potential exponent is either small or large. We establish local well-posedness for a new range of parameters, thereby substantially filling the remaining open parameter regime. In particular, our result completely resolves the remaining gap in dimensions $5$ and $6$.

A note on the fourth-order Schrodinger equation with spatially growing inhomogeneous source term

This paper studies a non-linear biharmonic Schödinger equation with an unbounded inhomogeneous term. The main goal is to develop a local theory but also a global theory for small data, in the energy space. Moreover, we develop a local theory in Sobolev spaces with lower regularity. The challenge is to deal with the inhomogeneous unbounded term, which broke down the space translation invariance. In order to handle the inhomogenous term, we use some Strauss type estimates, which require a spherically symmetric assumption.

NLS equation with competing inhomogeneous nonlinearities: ground states, blow-up, and scattering

We investigate a class of nonlinear equations of Schrödinger type with competing inhomogeneous nonlinearities in the non-radial inter-critical regime, \begin{align*} i \partial_t u +Δu &=|x|^{-b_1} |u|^{p_1-2} u - |x|^{-b_2} |u|^{p_2-2}u \quad \mbox{in} \,\, \mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{R}^N, \end{align*} where $N \geq 1$, $b_1, b_2>0$ and $p_1,p_2>2$. First, we establish the existence/nonexistence, symmetry, decay, uniqueness, non-degeneracy and instability of ground states. Then, we prove the scattering versus blowup below the ground state energy threshold. Our approach relies on Tao's scattering criterion and Dodson-Murphy's Virial/Morawetz inequalities. We also obtain an upper bound of the blow-up rate. The novelty here is that the equation does not enjoy any scaling invariance due to the presence of competing nonlinearities and the singular weights prevent the invariance by translation in the space variable. To the best of authors knowledge, this is the first time when inhomegeneous NLS equation with a focusing leading order nonlinearity and a defocusing perturbation is investigated.

Normalized Standing Waves for the Focusing Inhomogeneous Schrödinger Equation with Spatially Growing Nonlinearity

We study the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i\partial_t u + Δu = -|x|^b |u|^{p-1}u ,\quad (t,x)\in (0,\infty)\times\mathbb{R}^N, $$ with $b>0$ and $p>1$. Due to the spatial growth of the nonlinearity, standard compactness arguments do not apply and new difficulties arise. We first characterize ground state standing waves via a variational approach on the Nehari manifold and we establish some sharp stability and instability properties. In the $L^2$-subcritical regime, we prove the existence of normalized ground states by solving a constrained energy minimization problem in the radial energy space, and we show that the resulting set of minimizers is orbitally stable under the flow. In contrast, in the $L^2$-critical and supercritical regimes, ground state standing waves are shown to be strongly unstable by finite-time blow-up. Our results extend classical stability and instability theory for nonlinear Schrödinger equations to the case of spatially growing inhomogeneous nonlinearities.

Biharmonic non-linear Schrödinger equation with an unbounded inhomogeneous term

This paper is devoted to the analysis of a focusing nonlinear biharmonic Schrödinger equation in the presence of an unbounded growing up inhomogeneous term. The first main contribution of this work is the derivation of an inhomogeneous Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality adapted to the unbounded weight, which provides the necessary control over the nonlinear term in terms of Sobolev norms. Building on this inequality, we then investigate the long-time behavior of solutions and establish a sharp dichotomy: solutions with initial data below the ground state energy either exist globally in time or experience finite-time blow-up. A distinctive feature of our results is that the analysis of the unbounded inhomogeneous term requires the imposition of radial symmetry on the initial data, which allows us to exploit certain Strauss type Sobolev estimates that would not hold in the general non-radial case. This work complements previous studies on biharmonic Schrödinger equations with singular inhomogeneities, highlighting both the challenges and the new phenomena that arise when the nonlinearity is weighted by a growing up unbounded function, which broke the space translation invariance of the standard homogeneous associated equation.

Finite time blow-up of non-radial solutions for some inhomogeneous Schrödinger equations

This work studies the inhomogeneous Schrödinger equation $$ i\partial_t u-\mathcal{K}_{s,λ}u +F(x,u)=0 , \quad u(t,x):\mathbb{R}\times\mathbb{R}^N\to\mathbb{C}. $$ Here, $s\in\{1,2\}$, $N>2s$ and $λ>-\frac{(N-2)^2}{4}$. The linear Schrödinger operator reads $\mathcal{K}_{s,λ}:= (-Δ)^s +(2-s)\fracλ{|x|^2}$ and the focusing source term is local or non-local $$F(x,u)\in\{|x|^{-2τ}|u|^{2(q-1)}u,|x|^{-τ}|u|^{p-2}(J_α*|\cdot|^{-τ}|u|^p)u\}.$$ The Riesz potential is $J_α(x)=C_{N,α}|x|^{-(N-α)}$, for certain $0<α 0$ gives a inhomogeneous non-linearity. One considers the inter-critical regime, namely $1+\frac{2(1-τ)}N<q<1+\frac{2(1-τ)}{N-2s}$ and $1+\frac{2-2τ+α}{N}<p<1+\frac{2-2τ+α}{N-2s}$. The purpose is to prove the finite time blow-up of solutions with datum in the energy space, non necessarily radial or with finite variance. The assumption on the data is expressed in terms of non-conserved quantities. This is weaker than the ground state threshold standard condition. The blow-up under the ground threshold or with negative energy are consequences. The proof is based on Morawetz estimates and a non-global ordinary differential inequality.

Damping Effects on Global Existence and Scattering for an Inhomogeneous NLS Equation with Inverse-Square Potential

This work explores the global existence and scattering behavior of solutions to a damped, inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrodinger equation featuring a time-dependent damping term, an inverse-square potential, and an inhomogeneous nonlinearity. We establish global well-posedness in the energy space for subcritical, mass-critical, and energy-critical regimes, using Strichartz estimates, Hardy inequalities, and Gagliardo-Nirenberg-type estimates. For sufficiently large damping, we highlight how the interplay between damping, singular potentials, and inhomogeneity influences the dynamics. Our results extend existing studies and offer new insights into the long-time behavior of solutions in this more general setting. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to address the combined effects of inverse-square potential, inhomogeneous (or even homogeneous) nonlinearity, and damping in the context of the NLS equation.

Radial 3D Focusing Energy Critical INLS equations with defocusing perturbation: Ground states, Scattering, and Blow-up

We investigate the following inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the radial regime, featuring a focusing energy-critical nonlinearity and a defocusing perturbation: $$ i\partial_t u +Δu =|x|^{-a} |u|^{p-2} u - |x|^{-b} |u|^{4-2b}u \quad \mbox{in} \,\, \mathbb{R}_t \times \mathbb{R}_x^3, $$ where $0<a$, $b<2$ and $2+\frac{4-2a}{3}< p\leq 6-2a$. First, we establish the existence and nonexistence of ground states, along with their quantitative properties. Subsequently, we analyze the dichotomy between scattering and blow-up for solutions with energy below the ground-state energy threshold. An intriguing feature of this equation is the lack of scaling invariance, which arises from the competing effects of the inhomogeneous nonlinearities. Additionally, the presence of singular weights breaks translation invariance in the spatial variable, introducing further complexity to the analysis. To the best of our knowledge, this work represents the first comprehensive study of the inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a leading-order focusing energy-critical inhomogeneous nonlinearity and a defocusing perturbation. Our results provide new insights into the interplay between these competing nonlinearities and their influence on the dynamics of solutions.

Energy-critical inhomogeneous generalized Hartree equation with inverse square potential

This work studies the Cauchy problem for the energy-critical inhomogeneous Hartree equation with inverse square potential $$i\partial_t u-\mathcal K_λu=\pm |x|^{-τ}|u|^{p-2}(I_α*|\cdot|^{-τ}|u|^p)u, \quad \mathcal K_λ=-Δ+\fracλ{|x|^2}$$ in the energy space $H_λ^1:=\{f\in L^2,\quad\sqrt{\mathcal{K}_λ}f\in L^2\}$. In this paper, we develop a well-posedness theory and investigate the blow-up of solutions in $H_λ^1$. Furthermore we present a dichotomy between energy bounded and non-global existence of solutions under the ground state threshold. To this end, we use Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg weighted interpolation inequalities and some equivalent norms considering $\mathcal K_λ$, which make it possible to control the non-linearity involving the singularity $|x|^{-τ}$ as well as the inverse square potential. The novelty here is the investigation of the energy critical regime which remains still open and the challenge is to deal with three technical problems: a non-local source term, an inhomogeneous singular term $|\cdot|^{-τ}$, and the presence of an inverse square potential.

Well-posedness and scattering for a 2D inhomogeneous NLS with Aharonov-Bohm magnetic potential

We consider the magnetic nonlinear inhomogeneous Schrödinger equation $$i\partial_t u -\left(-i\nabla+\fracα{|x|^2}(-x_2,x_1)\right)^2 u =\pm|x|^{-\varrho}|u|^{p-1}u,\quad (t,x)\in \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^2,$$ where $α\in\mathbb{R}\setminus\mathbb{Z},\,\varrho>0,\,p>1$. We prove a dichotomy of global existence and scattering versus blow-up of energy solutions under the ground state threshold in the inter-critical regime. The scattering is obtained by using the new approach of Dodson-Murphy (A new proof of scattering below the ground state for the 3D radial focusing cubic NLS, {Proc. Am. Math. Soc.} (2017)). This method is based on Tao's scattering criteria and Morawetz estimates. The novelty here is twice: we investigate the case $\varrhoα\neq0$ and we consider general energy initial data (not necessarily radially symmetric).

Long time dynamics for the focusing inhomogeneous fractional Schrödinger equation

We consider the following fractional NLS with focusing inhomogeneous power-type nonlinearity $$i\partial_t u -(-Δ)^s u + |x|^{-b}|u|^{p-1}u=0,\quad (t,x)\in \mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{R}^N,$$ where $N\geq 2$, $1/2<s<1$, $0<b<2s$ and $1+\frac{2(2s-b)}{N}<p<1+\frac{2(2s-b)}{N-2s}$. We prove the ground state threshold of global existence and scattering versus finite time blow-up of energy solutions in the inter-critical regime with spherically symmetric initial data. The scattering is proved by the new approach of Dodson-Murphy ({Proc. Am. Math. Soc.} {145}: {4859--4867}, 2017). This method is based on Tao's scattering criteria and Morawetz estimates. One describes the threshold using some non-conserved quantities in the spirit of the recent paper by Dinh (Discr. Cont. Dyn. Syst. 40: 6441--6471, 2020). The radial assumption avoids a loss of regularity in Strichartz estimates. The challenge here is to overcome two main difficulties. The first one is the presence of the non-local fractional Laplacian operator. The second one is the presence of a singular weight in the non-linearity. The greater part of this paper is devoted to prove the scattering of global solutions in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^N)$.

Long time dynamics and blow-up for the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation with spatial growing nonlinearity

We investigate the Cauchy problem for the focusing inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger equation $i \partial_t u + Δu = - |x|^b |u|^{p-1} u$ in the radial Sobolev space $H^1_{\text{rad}}(\mathbb{R}^N)$, where $b>0$ and $p>1$. We show the global existence and energy scattering in the inter-critical regime, i.e., $p>\frac{N+4+2b}{N}$ and $p<\frac{N+2+2b}{N-2}$ if $N\geq 3$. We also obtain blowing-up solutions for the mass-critical and mass-supercritical nonlinearities. The main difficulty, coming from the spatial growing nonlinearity, is overcome by refined Gagliardo-Nirenberg type inequalities. Our proofs are based on improved Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities, the Morawetz-Sobolev approach of Dodson and Murphy, radial Sobolev embeddings, and localized virial estimates.

Scattering for a class of non-radial inhomogeneous bi-harmonic Hartree equations

This manuscript proves the energy scattering of global solutions to a repulsive fourth-order generalized Hartree equation with non-radial data in the inter-critical regime. This work uses a new approach due to Dodson-Murphy [4] and extends the previous work [14] by removing the spherically symmetric assumption on the data.

Remarks on the fractional inhomogeneous Hartree equation

This paper studies the inhomogeneous fractional Schödinger equation $$i\dot u-(-Δ)^s u=\pm(I_α*|\cdot|^b|u|^p)|x|^b|u|^{p-2}u.$$ In the mass super-critical and energy sub-critical regimes, using a Gagliardo-Nirenberg adapted to the above problem, the standing waves give a sharp threshold of global existence versus finite time blow-up of solutions.

Scattering for radial bi-harmonic Hartree equations

This note studies the asymptotic behavior of global solutions to the fourth-order generalized Hartree equation $$i\dot u+Δ^2 u\pm(I_α*|u|^p)|u|^{p-2}u=0.$$ Indeed, for both attractive and repulsive sign, the scattering is obtained in the mass super-critical and energy sub-critical regimes, with radial setting.
