VAPI: Vectorization of Algorithm for Performance Improvement

This study presents the vectorization of metaheuristic algorithms as the first stage of vectorized optimization implementation. Vectorization is a technique for converting an algorithm, which operates on a single value at a time to one that operates on a collection of values at a time to execute rapidly. The vectorization technique also operates by replacing multiple iterations into a single operation, which improves the algorithm's performance in speed and makes the algorithm simpler and easier to be implemented. It is important to optimize the algorithm by implementing the vectorization technique, which improves the program's performance, which requires less time and can run long-running test functions faster, also execute test functions that cannot be implemented in non-vectorized algorithms and reduces iterations and time complexity. Converting to vectorization to operate several values at once and enhance algorithms' speed and efficiency is a solution for long running times and complicated algorithms. The objective of this study is to use the vectorization technique on one of the metaheuristic algorithms and compare the results of the vectorized algorithm with the algorithm which is non-vectorized.

As a consequence of this, ground-breaking research has been conducted in a variety of domains, including synthetic immune functions, neural networks, the intelligence of swarm, as well as computing of evolutionary. In the domains of biology, physics, engineering, economics, and management, NIC techniques are used. In real-world classification, optimization, forecasting, and clustering, as well as engineering and science issues, meta-heuristics algorithms are successful, efficient, and resilient. There are two active NIC patterns: the gravitational search algorithm and the Krill herd algorithm. The study on using the Krill Herd Algorithm (KH) and the Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) in medicine and healthcare is given a worldwide and historical review in this publication. Comprehensive surveys have been conducted on some other nature-inspired algorithms, including KH and GSA. The various versions of the KH and GSA algorithms and their applications in healthcare are thoroughly reviewed in the present article. Nonetheless, no survey research on KH and GSA in the healthcare field has been undertaken. As a result, this work conducts a thorough review of KH and GSA to assist researchers in using them in diverse domains or hybridizing them with other popular algorithms. It also provides an in-depth examination of the KH and GSA in terms of application, modification, and hybridization. It is important to note that the goal of the study is to offer a viewpoint on GSA with KH, particularly for academics interested in investigating the capabilities and performance of the algorithm in the healthcare and medical domains.

CDDO-HS:Child Drawing Development Optimization Harmony Search Algorithm

Child drawing development optimization (CDDO) is a recent example of a metaheuristic algorithm. The motive for inventing this method is children's learning behavior and cognitive development, with the golden ratio employed to optimize their artwork's aesthetic value. Unfortunately, CDDO suffers from low performance in the exploration phase, and the local best solution stagnates. Harmony search (HS) is a highly competitive algorithm relative to other prevalent metaheuristic algorithms, as its exploration phase performance on unimodal benchmark functions is outstanding. Thus, to avoid these issues, we present CDDOHS, a hybridization of both standards of CDDO and HS. The hybridized model proposed consists of two phases. Initially, the pattern size (PS) is relocated to the algorithm's core and the initial pattern size is set to 80 % of the total population size. Second, the standard harmony search (HS) is added to the pattern size (PS) for the exploration phase to enhance and update the solution after each iteration. Experiments are evaluated using two distinct standard benchmark functions, known as classical test functions, including 23 common functions and 10 CEC-C06 2019 functions. Additionally, the suggested CDDOHS is compared to CDDO, HS, and six other widely used algorithms. Using the Wilcoxon ranksum test, the results indicate that CDDOHS beats alternative algorithms.

Evolving Deep Neural Network by Customized Moth Flame Optimization Algorithm for Underwater Targets Recognition

This chapter proposes using the Moth Flame Optimization (MFO) algorithm for finetuning a Deep Neural Network to recognize different underwater sonar datasets. Same as other models evolved by metaheuristic algorithms, premature convergence, trapping in local minima, and failure to converge in a reasonable time are three defects MFO confronts in solving problems with high-dimension search space. Spiral flying is the key component of the MFO as it determines how the moths adjust their positions in relation to flames; thereby, the shape of spiral motions can regulate the transition behavior between the exploration and exploitation phases. Therefore, this chapter investigates the efficiency of seven spiral motions with different curvatures and slopes in the performance of the MFO, especially for underwater target classification tasks. To assess the performance of the customized model, in addition to benchmark Sejnowski & Gorman's dataset, two experimental sonar datasets, i.e., the passive sonar and active datasets, are exploited. The results of MFO and its modifications are compared to four novel nature-inspired algorithms, including Heap-Based Optimizer (HBO), Chimp Optimization Algorithm (ChOA), Ant Lion Optimization (ALO), Stochastic Fractals Search (SFS), as well as the classic Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The results confirm that the customized MFO shows better performance than the other state-of-the-art models so that the classification rates are increased 1.5979, 0.9985, and 2.0879 for Sejnowski & Gorman, passive, and active datasets, respectively. The results also approve that time complexity is not significantly increased by using different spiral motions.

Multi objective Fitness Dependent Optimizer Algorithm

This paper proposes the multi objective variant of the recently introduced fitness dependent optimizer (FDO). The algorithm is called a Multi objective Fitness Dependent Optimizer (MOFDO) and is equipped with all five types of knowledge (situational, normative, topographical, domain, and historical knowledge) as in FDO. MOFDO is tested on two standard benchmarks for the performance-proof purpose; classical ZDT test functions, which is a widespread test suite that takes its name from its authors Zitzler, Deb, and Thiele, and on IEEE Congress of Evolutionary Computation benchmark (CEC 2019) multi modal multi objective functions. MOFDO results are compared to the latest variant of multi objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO), non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm third improvement (NSGA-III), and multi objective dragonfly algorithm (MODA). The comparative study shows the superiority of MOFDO in most cases and comparative results in other cases. Moreover, MOFDO is used for optimizing real-world engineering problems (e.g., welded beam design problems). It is observed that the proposed algorithm successfully provides a wide variety of well-distributed feasible solutions, which enable the decision-makers to have more applicable-comfort choices to consider.

Awareness requirement and performance management for adaptive systems: a survey

Self-adaptive software can assess and modify its behavior when the assessment indicates that the program is not performing as intended or when improved functionality or performance is available. Since the mid-1960s, the subject of system adaptivity has been extensively researched, and during the last decade, many application areas and technologies involving self-adaptation have gained prominence. All of these efforts have in common the introduction of self-adaptability through software. Thus, it is essential to investigate systematic software engineering methods to create self-adaptive systems that may be used across different domains. The primary objective of this research is to summarize current advances in awareness requirements for adaptive strategies based on an examination of state-of-the-art methods described in the literature. This paper presents a review of self-adaptive systems in the context of requirement awareness and summarizes the most common methodologies applied. At first glance, it gives a review of the previous surveys and works about self-adaptive systems. Afterward, it classifies the current self-adaptive systems based on six criteria. Then, it presents and evaluates the most common self-adaptive approaches. Lastly, an evaluation among the self-adaptive models is conducted based on four concepts (requirements description, monitoring, relationship, dependency/impact, and tools).

Fitness Dependent Optimizer with Neural Networks for COVID-19 patients

The Coronavirus, known as COVID-19, which appeared in 2019 in China, has significantly affected global health and become a huge burden on health institutions all over the world. These effects are continuing today. One strategy for limiting the virus's transmission is to have an early diagnosis of suspected cases and take appropriate measures before the disease spreads further. This work aims to diagnose and show the probability of getting infected by the disease according to textual clinical data. In this work, we used five machine learning techniques (GWO_MLP, GWO_CMLP, MGWO_MLP, FDO_MLP, FDO_CMLP) all of which aim to classify Covid-19 patients into two categories (Positive and Negative). Experiments showed promising results for all used models. The applied methods showed very similar performance, typically in terms of accuracy. However, in each tested dataset, FDO_MLP and FDO_CMLP produced the best results with 100% accuracy. The other models' results varied from one experiment to the other. It is concluded that the models on which the FDO algorithm was used as a learning algorithm had the possibility of obtaining higher accuracy. However, it is found that FDO has the longest runtime compared to the other algorithms. The link to the covid 19 models is found here: https://github.com/Tarik4Rashid4/covid19models

Corneal diseases are the most common eye disorders. Deep learning techniques are used to per-form automated diagnoses of cornea. Deep learning networks require large-scale annotated datasets, which is conceded as a weakness of deep learning. In this work, a method for synthesizing medical images using conditional generative adversarial networks (CGANs), is presented. It also illustrates how produced medical images may be utilized to enrich medical data, improve clinical decisions, and boost the performance of the conventional neural network (CNN) for medical image diagnosis. The study includes using corneal topography captured using a Pentacam device from patients with corneal diseases. The dataset contained 3448 different corneal images. Furthermore, it shows how an unbalanced dataset affects the performance of classifiers, where the data are balanced using the resampling approach. Finally, the results obtained from CNN networks trained on the balanced dataset are compared to those obtained from CNN networks trained on the imbalanced dataset. For performance, the system estimated the diagnosis accuracy, precision, and F1-score metrics. Lastly, some generated images were shown to an expert for evaluation and to see how well experts could identify the type of image and its condition. The expert recognized the image as useful for medical diagnosis and for determining the severity class according to the shape and values, by generating images based on real cases that could be used as new different stages of illness between healthy and unhealthy patients.

Improved Fitness Dependent Optimizer for Solving Economic Load Dispatch Problem

Economic Load Dispatch depicts a fundamental role in the operation of power systems, as it decreases the environmental load, minimizes the operating cost, and preserves energy resources. The optimal solution to Economic Load Dispatch problems and various constraints can be obtained by evolving several evolutionary and swarm-based algorithms. The major drawback to swarm-based algorithms is premature convergence towards an optimal solution. Fitness Dependent Optimizer is a novel optimization algorithm stimulated by the decision-making and reproductive process of bee swarming. Fitness Dependent Optimizer (FDO) examines the search spaces based on the searching approach of Particle Swarm Optimization. To calculate the pace, the fitness function is utilized to generate weights that direct the search agents in the phases of exploitation and exploration. An Improved Deep Convolutional Neural Network by Using Hybrid Optimization Algorithms to Detect and Classify Brain Tumor Using Augmented MRI Images

Automated brain tumor detection is becoming a highly considerable medical diagnosis research. In recent medical diagnoses, detection and classification are highly considered to employ machine learning and deep learning techniques. Nevertheless, the accuracy and performance of current models need to be improved for suitable treatments. In this paper, an improvement in deep convolutional learning is ensured by adopting enhanced optimization algorithms, Thus, Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) based on improved Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO), called G-HHO has been considered. This hybridization features Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) and HHO to give better results, limiting the convergence rate and enhancing performance. Moreover, Otsu thresholding is adopted to segment the tumor portion that emphasizes brain tumor detection. Experimental studies are conducted to validate the performance of the suggested method on a total number of 2073 augmented MRI images. The technique's performance was ensured by comparing it with the nine existing algorithms on huge augmented MRI images in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, f-measure, execution time, and memory usage. The performance comparison shows that the DCNN-G-HHO is much more successful than existing methods, especially on a scoring accuracy of 97%. Additionally, the statistical performance analysis indicates that the suggested approach is faster and utilizes less memory at identifying and categorizing brain tumor cancers on the MR images. The implementation of this validation is conducted on the Python platform. The relevant codes for the proposed approach are available at: https://github.com/bryarahassan/DCNN-G-HHO.

Fitness Dependent Optimizer for IoT Healthcare using Adapted Parameters: A Case Study Implementation

This discusses a case study on Fitness Dependent Optimizer or so-called FDO and adapting its parameters to the Internet of Things (IoT) healthcare. The reproductive way is sparked by the bee swarm and the collaborative decision-making of FDO. As opposed to the honey bee or artificial bee colony algorithms, this algorithm has no connection to them. In FDO, the search agent's position is updated using speed or velocity, but it's done differently. It creates weights based on the fitness function value of the problem, which assists lead the agents through the exploration and exploitation processes. Other algorithms are evaluated and compared to FDO as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) in the original work. The key current algorithms:The Salp-Swarm Algorithms (SSA), Dragonfly Algorithm (DA), and Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) have been evaluated against FDO in terms of their results. Using these FDO experimental findings, we may conclude that FDO outperforms the other techniques stated. There are two primary goals for this chapter: first, the implementation of FDO will be shown step-by-step so that readers can better comprehend the algorithm method and apply FDO to solve real-world applications quickly. The second issue deals with how to tweak the FDO settings to make the meta-heuristic evolutionary algorithm better in the IoT health service system at evaluating big quantities of information. Ultimately, the target of this chapter's enhancement is to adapt the IoT healthcare framework based on FDO to spawn effective IoT healthcare applications for reasoning out real-world optimization, aggregation, prediction, segmentation, and other technological problems.
