Spectral Form Factor for Chaotic Dynamics in a Weak Magnetic Field

Using semiclassical periodic orbit theory for a chaotic system in a weak magnetic field, we obtain the form factor predicted by Pandey and Mehta's two matrix model up to the third order. The third order contribution has a peculiar term which exists only in the intermediate crossover domain between the GOE (Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble) and the GUE (Gaussian Unitary Ensemble) universality classes. The exact expression is obtained by taking account of the contribution from encounter regions where orbit loops are connected.

Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process and Modified Random Matrix Ensembles

We study the fluctuation properties of the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) on an infinite one-dimensional lattice. When $N$ particles are initially situated in the negative region with a uniform density $ρ_-=1$, Johansson showed the equivalence of the current fluctuation of ASEP and the largest eigenvalue distribution of random matrices. We extend Johansson's formula and derive modified ensembles of random matrices, corresponding to general ASEP initial conditions. Taking the scaling limit, we find that a phase change of the asymptotic current fluctuation occurs at a critical position.

Vicious walk with a wall, noncolliding meanders, and chiral and Bogoliubov-deGennes random matrices

Spatially and temporally inhomogeneous evolution of one-dimensional vicious walkers with wall restriction is studied. We show that its continuum version is equivalent with a noncolliding system of stochastic processes called Brownian meanders. Here the Brownian meander is a temporally inhomogeneous process introduced by Yor as a transform of the Bessel process that is a motion of radial coordinate of the three-dimensional Brownian motion represented in the spherical coordinates. It is proved that the spatial distribution of vicious walkers with a wall at the origin can be described by the eigenvalue-statistics of Gaussian ensembles of Bogoliubov-deGennes Hamiltonians of the mean-field theory of superconductivity, which have the particle-hole symmetry. We report that the time evolution of the present stochastic process is fully characterized by the change of symmetry classes from the type $C$ to the type $C$I in the nonstandard classes of random matrix theory of Altland and Zirnbauer. The relation between the non-colliding systems of the generalized meanders of Yor, which are associated with the even-dimensional Bessel processes, and the chiral random matrix theory is also clarified.

Infinite systems of non-colliding Brownian particles

Non-colliding Brownian particles in one dimension is studied. $N$ Brownian particles start from the origin at time 0 and then they do not collide with each other until finite time $T$. We derive the determinantal expressions for the multitime correlation functions using the self-dual quaternion matrices. We consider the scaling limit of the infinite particles $N \to \infty$ and the infinite time interval $T \to \infty$. Depending on the scaling, two limit theorems are proved for the multitime correlation functions, which may define temporally inhomogeneous infinite particle systems.

Dynamical Correlations for Vicious Random Walk with a Wall

A one-dimensional system of nonintersecting Brownian particles is constructed as the diffusion scaling limit of Fisher's vicious random walk model. $N$ Brownian particles start from the origin at time $t=0$ and undergo mutually avoiding motion until a finite time $t=T$. Dynamical correlation functions among the walkers are exactly evaluated in the case with a wall at the origin. Taking an asymptotic limit $N \to \infty$, we observe discontinuous transitions in the dynamical correlations. It is further shown that the vicious walk model with a wall is equivalent to a parametric random matrix model describing the crossover between the Bogoliubov-deGennes universality classes.

Form Factor of a Quantum Graph in a Weak Magnetic Field

Using periodic orbit theory, we evaluate the form factor of a quantum graph to which a very weak magnetic field is applied. The first correction to the diagonal approximation describing the transition between the universality classes is shown to be in agreement with Pandey and Mehta's formula of parametric random matrix theory.

Dynamical Correlations for Circular Ensembles of Random Matrices

Circular Brownian motion models of random matrices were introduced by Dyson and describe the parametric eigenparameter correlations of unitary random matrices. For symmetric unitary, self-dual quaternion unitary and an analogue of antisymmetric hermitian matrix initial conditions, Brownian dynamics toward the unitary symmetry is analyzed. The dynamical correlation functions of arbitrary number of Brownian particles at arbitrary number of times are shown to be written in the forms of quaternion determinants, similarly as in the case of hermitian random matrix models.

Dynamical Correlations among Vicious Random Walkers

Nonintersecting motion of Brownian particles in one dimension is studied. The system is constructed as the diffusion scaling limit of Fisher's vicious random walk. N particles start from the origin at time t=0 and then undergo mutually avoiding Brownian motion until a finite time t=T. In the short time limit $t \ll T$, the particle distribution is asymptotically described by Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE) of random matrices. At the end time t = T, it is identical to that of Gaussian Orthogonal Ensemble (GOE). The Brownian motion is generally described by the dynamical correlations among particles at many times $t_1,t_2,..., t_M$ between t=0 and t=T. We show that the most general dynamical correlations among arbitrary number of particles at arbitrary number of times are written in the forms of quaternion determinants. Asymptotic forms of the correlations in the limit $N \to \infty$ are evaluated and a discontinuous transition of the universality class from GUE to GOE is observed.

Vicious Random Walkers and a Discretization of Gaussian Random Matrix Ensembles

The vicious random walker problem on a one dimensional lattice is considered. Many walkers take simultaneous steps on the lattice and the configurations in which two of them arrive at the same site are prohibited. It is known that the probability distribution of N walkers after M steps can be written in a determinant form. Using an integration technique borrowed from the theory of random matrices, we show that arbitrary k-th order correlation functions of the walkers can be expressed as quaternion determinants whose elements are compactly expressed in terms of symmetric Hahn polynomials.

Chiral Lagrangians from lattice gauge theories in the strong coupling limit

We derive nonlinear sigma models (chiral Lagrangians) over symmetric spaces U(n), U(2n)/Sp(2n), and U(2n)/O(2n) from U(N), O(N), and Sp(2N) lattice gauge theories coupled to n flavors of staggered fermions, in the large-N and g^2 N limit. To this end, we employ Zirnbauer's color-flavor transformation. We prove the spatial homogeneity of the vacuum configurations of mesons by explicitly solving the large-N saddle point equations, and thus establish the above patterns of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking without any assumptions.
