Equatorial Circular Motion of Charged Test Particles in a Weakly Magnetized Taub--NUT Background

We study circular motion of charged test particles on the equatorial slice of a Taub--NUT black hole with Manko--Ruiz parameter $C$, immersed in a weak external magnetic field introduced via Wald's prescription. Because the Taub--NUT metric is not reflection-symmetric about the equator once $l\neq 0$, generic charged orbits lie on cones $x=\cosθ\neq 0$ rather than on the equatorial plane. We therefore analyse \emph{constrained} circular orbits obtained by imposing $x=\dot x=0$, and we exhibit in closed form the residual angular constraint that a fully self-consistent orbit would have to satisfy. Within this scope we derive the circularity and marginal-stability conditions and study how $B$ and $C$ shift the ISCO radius for prograde and retrograde branches. Increasing $B$ monotonically decreases $r_{\mathrm{ISCO}}$; the sign of the particle charge splits the two branches, with the ordering reversed between prograde and retrograde motion; and $C$ contributes only subleading corrections. The extension to self-consistent conical orbits is the natural direction for follow-up work.

A novel theoretical approach for the study of resonances in weakly bound systems

In this paper, a novel theoretical scheme is presented to investigate resonant levels in weakly bound nuclear systems by the use of isospectral potentials. In this scheme, a new potential is constructed which is strictly isospectral with the original shallow-well potential and has properties that are desirable to calculate resonances more accurately and easier. Effectiveness of the method has been had been demonstrated in terms of its application to the first $0^+$ resonances in the neutron-rich isotopes $^A$C ($\equiv ^{A-2}$C+n+n) in the three-body cluster model for A=18, 20.

Two-size Probability-Changing Cluster Algorithm

We propose a self-adapted Monte Carlo approach to automatically determine the critical temperature by simulating two systems with different sizes at the same temperature. The temperature is increased or decreased by checking the short-time average of the correlation ratios of the two system sizes. The critical temperature is achieved using the negative feedback mechanism, and the thermal average near the critical temperature can be calculated precisely. The proposed approach is a general method to treat second-order phase transition, first-order phase transition, and Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition on the equal footing.

Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition on regular and Villain types of $q$-state clock models

We study $q$-state clock models of regular and Villain types with $q=5,6$ using cluster-spin updates and observed double transitions in each model. We calculate the correlation ratio and size-dependent correlation length as quantities for characterizing the existence of Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) phase and its transitions by large-scale Monte Carlo simulations. We discuss the advantage of correlation ratio in comparison to other commonly used quantities in probing BKT transition. Using finite size scaling of BKT type transition, we estimate transition temperatures and corresponding exponents. The comparison between the results from both types revealed that the existing transitions belong to BKT universality.

Critical properties of the antiferromagnetic Ising model on rewired square lattices

The effect of randomness on critical behavior is a crucial subject in condensed matter physics due to the the presence of impurity in any real material. We presently probe the critical behaviour of the antiferromagnetic (AF) Ising model on rewired square lattices with random connectivity. An extra link is randomly added to each site of the square lattice to connect the site to one of its next-nearest neighbours, thus having different number of connections (links). Average number of links (ANOL) $κ$ is fractional, varied from 2 to 3, where $κ= 2$ associated with the native square lattice. The rewired lattices possess abundance of triangular units in which spins are frustrated due to AF interaction. The system is studied by using Monte Carlo method with Replica Exchange algorithm. Some physical quantities of interests were calculated, such as the specific heat, the staggered magnetization and the spin glass order parameter (Edward-Anderson parameter). We investigate the role played by the randomness in affecting the existing phase transition and its interplay with frustration to possibly bring any spin glass (SG) properties. We observed the low temperature magnetic ordered phase (Néel phase) preserved up to certain value of $κ$ and no indication of SG phase for any value of $κ$.

Study of spin models with polyhedral symmetry on square lattice

Anisotropy is important for the existence of true long range order in two dimensional (2D) systems. This is firmly exemplified by the $q$-state clock models in which discreteness drives the quasi-long range order into a true long range order at low temperature for $q> 4$. Previously we studied 2D edge-cubic spin model, which is one of the discrete counterpart of the continuous Heisenberg model, and observed two finite temperature phase transitions, each corresponds to the breakdown of octahedral ($O_h$) symmetry and $C_{3h}$ symmetry, which finally freezes into ground state configuration. The present study investigates discret models with polyhedral symmetry, obtained by e equally partioning the $4π$ of the solid angle of a sphere. There are five types of models if spins are only allowed to point to the vertices of the polyhedral structures such as Tetrahedron, Octahedron, Hexahedron, Icosahedron and Dodecahedron. By using Monte Carlo simulation with cluster algorithm we calculate order parameters and estimate the critical temperatures exponents of each model. We found a systematic decrease in critical temperatures as the number of spin states increases (from the Tetrahedral to Dodecahedral spin model).

Probing phase transition order of $q$-state Potts models using Wang-Landau Algorithm

Phase transitions are ubiquitous phenomena, exemplified by the melting of ice and spontaneous magnetization of magnetic material. In general, a phase transition is associated with a symmetry breaking of a system; occurs due to the competition between coupling interaction and external fields such as thermal energy. If the phase transition occurs with no latent heat, the system experiences continuous transition, also known as second order phase transition. The ferromagnetic $q$-state Potts model with $r$ extra invisible states, introduced by Tamura, Tanaka, and Kawashima [Prog. Theor. Phys. 124, 381 (2010)], is studied by using the Wang-Landau method. The density of states difference (DOSD), $\ln g(E +ΔE) - \ln g(E)$, is used to investigate the order of the phase transition and examine the critical value of $r$ changing the second to the first order transition.

Search for the Heisenberg spin glass on rewired square lattices with antiferromagnetic interaction

Spin glass (SG) is a typical magnetic system with frozen random spin orientation at low temperatures. The system exhibits rich physical properties, such as infinite number of ground states, memory effect and aging phenomena. There are two main ingredients considered to be pivotal for the existence of SG behavior, namely, frustration and randomness. For the canonical SG system, frustration is led by the presence of competing interaction between ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AF) couplings. Previously, Bartolozzi {\it et al.} [ Phys. Rev. B{\bf 73}, 224419 (2006)], reported the SG properties of the AF Ising spins on scale free network (SFN). It is a new type of SG, different from the canonical one which requires the presence of both FM and AF couplings. In this new system, frustration is purely caused by the topological factor and its randomness is related to the irregular connectvity. Recently, Surungan {\it et. al.} [Journal of Physics: Conference Series 640, 012001 (2015)] reported SG bahavior of AF Heisenberg model on SFN. We further investigate this type of system by studying an AF Heisenberg model on rewired square lattices. We used Replica Exchange algorithm of Monte Carlo Method and calculated the SG order parameter to search for the existence of SG phase.

Spin glass behavior of the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on scale free network

Randomness and frustration are considered to be the key ingredients for the existence of spin glass (SG) phase. In a canonical system, these ingredients are realized by the random mixture of ferromagnetic (FM) and antiferromagnetic (AF) couplings. The study by Bartolozzi {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. B{\bf 73}, 224419 (2006)] who observed the presence of SG phase on the AF Ising model on scale free network (SFN) is stimulating. It is a new type of SG system where randomness and frustration are not caused by the presence of FM and AF couplings. To further elaborate this type of system, here we study Heisenberg model on AF SFN and search for the SG phase. The canonical SG Heisenberg model is not observed in $d$-dimensional regular lattices for ($d \leq 3$). We can make an analogy for the connectivity density ($m$) of SFN with the dimensionality of the regular lattice. It should be plausible to find the critical value of $m$ for the existence of SG behaviour, analogous to the lower critical dimension ($d_l$) for the canonical SG systems. Here we study system with $m=2,3,4$ and $5$. We used Replica Exchange algorithm of Monte Carlo Method and calculated the SG order parameter. We observed SG phase for each value of $m$ and estimated its corersponding critical temperature.

Critical properties of edge-cubic spin model on square lattice

The edge-cubic spin model on square lattice is studied via Monte Carlo simulation with cluster algorithm. By cooling the system, we found two successive symmetry breakings, i.e., the breakdown of $O_h$ into the group of $C_{3h}$ which then freezes into ground state configuration. To characterize the existing phase transitions, we consider the magnetization and the population number as order parameters. We observe that the magnetization is good at probing the high temperature transition but fails in the analysis of the low temperature transition. In contrast the population number performs well in probing the low- and the high-$T$ transitions. We plot the temperature dependence of the moment and correlation ratios of the order parameters and obtain the high- and low-$T$ transitions at $T_h = 0.602(1)$ and $T_l=0.5422(2)$ respectively, with the corresponding exponents of correlation length $ν_h=1.50(1)$ and $ν_l=0.833(1)$. By using correlation ratio and size dependence of correlation function we estimate the decay exponent for the high-$T$ transition as $η_h=0.260(1)$. For the low-$T$ transition, $η_l = 0.267(1)$ is extracted from the finite size scaling of susceptibility. The universality class of the low-$T$ critical point is the same as the 3-state Potts model.

Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in planar spin models with bond dilution

We study the two-dimensional bond-diluted XY and six-state clock models by Monte Carlo simulation with cluster spin updates. Various concentrations of depleted bonds were simulated, in which we found a systematic decrease of the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) transition temperatures of both XY and six-state clock models as the concentration of dilution decreases. For the six-state clock model, a second KT transition at lower temperature was observed. The KT transition temperatures as well as the decay exponent $η$ for each concentration of dilution are estimated. It is observed that the quasi long range order disappears at the concentration of dilution very close to the percolation threshold. The decay exponent $η$ of the KT transitions calculated at each concentration indicates that the universality class belongs to the pure XY and clock models, analogous to the expectation of the Harris criterion for the irrelevance of randomness in the continuous phase transition of systems with non-diverging specific heat.

Study of the Fully Frustrated Clock Model using the Wang-Landau Algorithm

Monte Carlo simulations using the newly proposed Wang-Landau algorithm together with the broad histogram relation are performed to study the antiferromagnetic six-state clock model on the triangular lattice, which is fully frustrated. We confirm the existence of the magnetic ordering belonging to the Kosterlitz-Thouless (KT) type phase transition followed by the chiral ordering which occurs at slightly higher temperature. We also observe the lower temperature phase transition of KT type due to the discrete symmetry of the clock model. By using finite-size scaling analysis, the higher KT temperature $T_2$ and the chiral critical temperature $T_c$ are respectively estimated as $T_2=0.5154(8)$ and $T_c=0.5194(4)$. The results are in favor of the double transition scenario. The lower KT temperature is estimated as $T_1=0.496(2)$. Two decay exponents of KT transitions corresponding to higher and lower temperatures are respectively estimated as $η_2=0.25(1)$ and $η_1=0.13(1)$, which suggests that the exponents associated with the KT transitions are universal even for the frustrated model.
