Models of exponential and power-law acceleration of the Universe in Horndeski theory without ghosts and Laplace instabilities

We present a designer method for flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker space-times within the framework of Horndeski's scalar-tensor theory. As a result, one can find subclasses of Horndeski's scalar-tensor theory within which cosmological solutions exist without ghosts and Laplace instabilities. As an example, we found subclasses of Horndeski's theory for exponential and power-law inflation models of the Universe without pathologies.

Exact cosmological solutions with magnetic field in the theory of gravity with non-minimal kinetic coupling

We investigate anisotropic and homogeneous cosmological models in the scalar-tensor theory of gravity with non-minimal kinetic coupling of a scalar field to the curvature given by the function $η\cdot(ϕ/2)\cdot G_{μν}\,\nabla^μ\nabla^νϕ$ in the Lagrangian. We assume that the space-times are filled a global unidirectional magnetic field that minimally interacts with the scalar field. We limit ourselves to the period before and during primary inflation. The Horndeski theory allows anisotropy to grow over time. The question arises about isotropization. In the theory under consideration, a zero scalar charge imposes a condition on the anisotropy level, namely its dynamics develops in a limited region. This condition uniquely determines a viable branch of solutions of the field equations. The magnetic energy density that corresponds to this branch is a bounded function of time. The sign of parameter $l=1+\varepsilonηΛ/μ$ determines the properties of cosmological models, where $Λ$ is the cosmological constant, $μ=M^2_{PL}$ is the Planck mass squared. The sign $\varepsilon=\pm 1$ defines the canonical scalar field and the phantom field, respectively. An inequality $\varepsilon/η>0$ is a necessary condition for isotropization of models, but not sufficient. The model with $l>0$ has the necessary properties: isotropization during expansion, rapid transition to inflationary expansion ($a(t)\propto e^{\sqrt{\frac{\varepsilon}{3η}}\cdot t}$), absence of ghost and Laplace instabilities. In other cases $l\ngtr 0$, the model has various disadvantages. Constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio, the conditions for avoidance of ghost and Laplacian instabilities lead to the inequalities: $Λ>0$, $η>0$, $\varepsilon=1$, $1<Λη/μ<1.049$.

Magnetic Bianchi-I cosmology in the Horndeski theory

We study the evolution of Bianchi-I space-times within the framework of the Horndeski theory with $G_5=\text{const}/X$. The space-times are filled a global unidirectional electromagnetic field interacting with a scalar field. We consider the minimal interaction and the non-minimal interaction by the law $f^2(ϕ)F_{μν}F^{μν}$. The Horndeski theory allows anisotropy to grow over time, so the question arises of regulating the anisotropic level in this theory. Using the designer method, we build models in which the anisotropic level tends to a small value as the Universe expands. One of the results is a model with a anisotropic bounce.

The nonlinear anisotropic model of the Universe with the linear potential

In the Bianchi I cosmology some subclasses of the Horndeski theory allow for the non-standard anisotropy behavior. For example, the anisotropy is damped near the initial singularity instead of tending to infinity. In this article, we analyze the nonlinear anisotropic model with the linear potential. We have considered an example of such theory, for which the anisotropy is always finite. The anisotropy reaches its a maximum value at the initial moment. The anisotropy suppression occurs during the inflationary stage, and it approaches zero at later times. This cosmological model does not contain the singular point.

Reconstruction in the Horndeski theory within the scope of the Bianchi I cosmology

In the previous article Eur. Phys. J. Plus 136, 590 (2021) (arXiv: 2110.15396) we have proposed a reconstruction method for the kinetic gravity braiding theory in the framework of the flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker spacetime. Here we develop this method in the Bianchi I spacetime model for a subclass of the Horndeski theory: $G_5 \sim ϕ$, $G_2(X)\neq0$, $G_3(X)\neq0$. The Hubble parameter $H(t)$ and the canonical kinetic term $X(t)$ are set a priori. The choice of the function $X(t)$ determines the anisotropic properties of the Universe. This makes it possible to provide believable anisotropy. The presented method allows for a realistic model of the Universe to simply reconstruct some scalar field theory. Reconstruction example is given for anisotropic model of a post-inflationary transition to the radiation-dominated phase. The model is investigated for the absence ghosts and Laplacian instabilities.

Reconstruction method in the kinetic gravity braiding theory with shift-symmetric

We present a reconstruction method for flat Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetime in a subclass of Horndeski theory -- specifically shiftsymmetric, the kinetic gravity braiding (KGB) theory with a non-vanishing conserved current. Choosing the form of the Hubble parameter and kinetic density $X$, we restore the functions $G_2$, $G_3$ of the KGB model. In order to determine whether the model is free of ghosts and Laplacian instabilities and thus cosmologically viable, two conditions related to scalar perturbations are checked. Initially, the Lagrangian does not include the term that describes, for example, the perfect fluid with the EoS parameter $w\neq -1$. This fluid can provide a dynamic solution $H(t)$, $X(t)$. In the presented method, dynamic solutions are provided by a nonzero scalar charge associated with the shift symmetry $ϕ\rightarrowϕ+ϕ_0$. Reconstruction examples are given for models: an perfect fluid, a unified description dark energy-dark matter, a post-inflationary transition to the radiation-dominated phase.
