Magnetic Weyl semimetal in K$_{2}$Mn$_3$(AsO$_{4}$)$_3$ with the minimum number of Weyl points

The "Hydrogen atom" of magnetic Weyl semimetals, with the minimum number of Weyl points, have received growing attention recently due to the possible presence of Weyl-related phenomena. Here, we report a nontrivial electronic structure of the ferromagnetic alluaudite-type compound K$_{2}$Mn$_3$(AsO$_{4}$)$_3$. It exhibits only a pair of Weyl points constrained in the $z$-direction by the two-fold rotation symmetry, leading to extremely long Fermi arc surface states. In addition, the study of its low-energy effective model results in the discovery of various topological superconducting states, such as the "hydrogen atom" of a Weyl superconductor. Our work provides a feasible platform to explore the intrinsic properties related to Weyl points, and the related device applications.

Spin susceptibility for orbital-singlet Cooper pair in the three-dimensional Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ superconductor

We study the spin susceptibility of the orbital-singlet pairings, including the spin-triplet/orbital-singlet/$s$-wave $E_g$ representation proposed by Suh \textit{et al}., [H.\ G.\ Suh \textit{et al}., Phys.\ Rev.\ Research \textbf{2}, 032023 (2020)], for a three-orbital model of superconducting Sr$_2$RuO$_4$ in three dimensions. For the pseudospin-singlet states represented in the band basis, the spin susceptibility decreases when reducing the temperature, irrespective of the direction of the applied magnetic fields, even if they are spin-triplet/orbital-singlet pairings in the spin-orbital space. However, because the pseudospin-triplet \textbf{d}-vector in the band basis is not completely aligned in the $xy$-plane (along $z$-axis) owing to the strong atomic spin-orbit coupling, the spin susceptibility for spin-singlet/orbital-singlet/odd-parity pairings is reduced around $5$-$10$ percent with the decrease of the temperature along the $z$ ($x$) axis. We can determine the symmetry of the pseudospin structure of the Cooper pair by the temperature dependence of the spin susceptibility measured by nuclear magnetic resonance experiments. Our obtained results serve as a guide to determine the pairing symmetry of Sr$_2$RuO$_4$.

Superconductivity in the nonsymmorphic line-nodal compound CaSb$_2$

We found superconductivity in CaSb$_2$ with the transition temperature of 1.7 K by means of electrical-resistivity, magnetic-susceptibility, and specific-heat measurements. This material crystallizes in a nonsymmorphic structure and is predicted to have multiple Dirac nodal lines in the bulk electronic band structure protected by symmetry even in the presence of spin-orbit coupling. We discuss a possible topological superconductivity for the quasi-2-dimensional band originating mainly from one of the antimony sites.

Spin Hall conductivity in topological Dirac semimetals

We theoretically investigate the spin Hall conductivity (SHC) in topological Dirac semimetals (TDSMs) whose Dirac points are protected by rotational symmetry. On the basis of a general phase diagram of the system with time-reversal, inversion and four-fold rotational symmetries, we reveal that the SHC is sensitive to the phase to which the system belong. The phase and the SHC are characterized by the mirror Chern numbers and the presence or absence of gapless bulk Dirac points. It is also found that the representative TDSM Cd$_3$As$_2$ supports a large and negative SHC $\sigma_{xy}^z\sim -10^4 (\hbar/e) (\Omega.\textrm{m})^{-1}$. The principle behind the dependency of SHC on the phase diagram is also explained.

Tunability of Andreev levels via spin-orbit coupling in Zeeman-split Josephson junctions

We study Andreev reflection and Andreev levels $\varepsilon$ in Zeeman-split superconductor/Rashba wire/Zeeman-split superconductor junctions by solving the Bogoliubov de-Gennes equation. We theoretically demonstrate that the Andreev levels $\varepsilon$ can be controlled by tuning either the strength of Rashba spin-orbit interaction or the relative direction of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction and the Zeeman field. In particular, it is found that the magnitude of the band splitting is tunable by the strength of the Rashba spin-orbit interaction and the rength of the wire, which can be interpreted by a spin precession in the Rashba wire. We also find that if the Zeeman field in the superconductor has the component parallel to the direction of the junction, the $\varepsilon$-$\phi$ curve becomes asymmetric with respect to the superconducting phase difference $\phi$. Whereas the Andreev reflection processes associated with each pseudospin band are sensitive to the relative orientation of the spin-orbit field and the exchange field, the total electric conductance interestingly remains invariant.

Superconductivity in doped Dirac semimetals

We theoretically study intrinsic superconductivity in doped Dirac semimetals. Dirac semimetals host bulk Dirac points, which are formed by doubly degenerate bands, so the Hamiltonian is described by a $4 \times 4$ matrix and six types of $k$-independent pair potentials are allowed by the Fermi-Dirac statistics. We show that the unique spin-orbit coupling leads to characteristic superconducting gap structures and $d$ vectors on the Fermi surface and the electron-electron interaction between intra and interorbitals gives a novel phase diagram of superconductivity. It is found that when the inter-orbital attraction is dominant, an unconventional superconducting state with point nodes appears. To verify the experimental signature of possible superconducting states, we calculate the temperature dependence of bulk physical properties such as electronic specific heat and spin susceptibility and surface state. In the unconventional superconducting phase, either dispersive or flat Andreev bound states appear between point nodes, which leads to double peaks or single peak in the surface density of states, respectively. As a result, possible superconducting states can be distinguished by combining bulk and surface measurements.

Surface electronic state of superconducting topological crystalline insulator

We study the surface state of a doped topological crystalline insulator in the superconducting state. Motivated by Sn$_{1-x}$In$_x$Te, we consider fully gapped pair potentials and calculate the surface spectral function. It is found that mirror-protected zero-energy Andreev bound states appear at the (001) surface and that these states can move along the mirror symmetric line on the surface Brillouin zone. We also show that the surface Andreev bound state changes systematically with doping due to the presence of the Dirac surface state in the normal state.

Effect of Fermi surface evolution on superconducting gap in superconducting topological insulator

We study bulk electronic states of superconducting topological insulator, which is the promising candidate for topological superconductor. Recent experiments suggest that the three-dimensional Fermi surface evolves into two-dimensional one. We show that the superconducting energy gap structure on the Fermi surface systematically changes with this evolution. It is clarified that the bulk electronic properties such as spin-lattice relaxation rate and specific heat depend on the shape of the Fermi surface and the type of the energy gap function. These results serve as a guide to determine the pairing symmetry of Cu$_x$Bi$_2$Se$_3$.

Bulk electronic state of superconducting topological insulator

We study electronic properties of a superconducting topological insulator whose parent material is a topological insulator. We calculate the temperature dependence of the specific heat and spin susceptibility for four promising superconducting pairings proposed by L. Fu and E. Berg (Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 097001). Since the line shapes of temperature dependence of specific heat are almost identical among three of the four pairings, it is difficult to identify them simply from the specific heat. On the other hand, we obtain wide varieties of the temperature dependence of spin susceptibility for each pairing reflecting the spin structure of Cooper pair. We propose that the pairing symmetry of superconducting topological insulator can be determined from measurement of Knight shift by changing the direction of applied magnetic field.
