Existence and uniqueness of $L^1$-solutions to time-fractional nonlinear diffusion equations

We establish the global existence and uniqueness of $L^1$-solutions to the Cauchy problem for time-fractional porous medium type nonlinear diffusion equations. Furthermore, we give the mass conservation law for $L^1$-solutions to time-fractional fast diffusion equations, and prove that the finite-time extinction does not occur for any nonnegative $L^1$-solutions.

Fundamental solution and diffusion limits for the heat equation in a half-space with a diffusive dynamical boundary condition

We derive an explicit representation of the fundamental solution to the heat equation in a half-space of ${\mathbb R}^N$ with a diffusive dynamical boundary condition, and establish sharp pointwise upper and lower bounds. We also investigate qualitative properties of the associated solutions, including precise decay estimates. Furthermore, we analyze the diffusion limits of solutions to the initial--boundary value problem, and reveal the role of the diffusive dynamical boundary condition in the behavior of solutions.

Existence of solutions to the fractional semilinear heat equation with a singular inhomogeneous term

We study the existence of solutions to the fractional semilinear heat equation with a singular inhomogeneous term. For this aim, we establish decay estimates of the fractional heat semigroup in several uniformly local Zygumnd spaces. Furthermore, we apply the real interpolation method in uniformly local Zygmund spaces to obtain sharp integral estimates on the inhomogeneous term and the nonlinear term. This enables us to find sharp sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to the fractional semilinear heat equation with a singular inhomogeneous term.

PULSE: Practical Evaluation Scenarios for Large Multimodal Model Unlearning

In recent years, unlearning techniques, which are methods for inducing a model to "forget" previously learned information, have attracted attention as a way to address privacy and copyright concerns in large language models (LLMs) and large multimodal models (LMMs). While several unlearning benchmarks have been established for LLMs, a practical evaluation framework for unlearning in LMMs has been less explored. Specifically, existing unlearning benchmark for LMMs considers only scenarios in which the model is required to unlearn fine-tuned knowledge through a single unlearning operation. In this study, we introduce PULSE protocol for realistic unlearning scenarios for LMMs by introducing two critical perspectives: (i) Pre-trained knowledge Unlearning for analyzing the effect across different knowledge acquisition phases and (ii) Long-term Sustainability Evaluation to address sequential requests. We then evaluate existing unlearning methods along these dimensions. Our results reveal that, although some techniques can successfully unlearn knowledge acquired through fine-tuning, they struggle to eliminate information learned during pre-training. Moreover, methods that effectively unlearn a batch of target data in a single operation exhibit substantial performance degradation when the same data are split and unlearned sequentially.

Fundamental solution to the heat equation with a dynamical boundary condition

We give an explicit representation of the fundamental solution to the heat equation on a half-space of ${\mathbb R}^N$ with the homogeneous dynamical boundary condition, and obtain upper and lower estimates of the fundamental solution. These enable us to obtain sharp decay estimates of solutions to the heat equation with the homogeneous dynamical boundary condition. Furthermore, as an application of our decay estimates, we identify the so-called Fujita exponent for a semilinear heat equation on the half-space of ${\mathbb R}^N$ with the homogeneous dynamical boundary condition.

Existence of solutions for a semilinear parabolic system with singular initial data

Let $(u,v)$ be a solution to the Cauchy problem for a semilinear parabolic system \[ \mathrm{(P)} \qquad \cases{ \partial_t u=D_1Δu+v^p\quad & $\quad\mbox{in}\quad{\mathbb{R}}^N\times(0,T),$\\ \partial_t v=D_2Δv+u^q\quad & $\quad\mbox{in}\quad{\mathbb{R}}^N\times(0,T),$\\ (u(\cdot,0),v(\cdot,0))=(μ,ν) & $\quad\mbox{in}\quad{\mathbb{R}}^N,$ } \] where $N\ge 1$, $T>0$, $D_1>0$, $D_2>0$, $0 1$, and $(μ,ν)$ is a pair of nonnegative Radon measures or locally integrable nonnegative functions in ${\mathbb R}^N$. In this paper we establish sharp sufficient conditions on the initial data for the existence of solutions to problem~(P) using uniformly local Morrey spaces and uniformly local weak Zygmund type spaces.

Solvability of the heat equation on a half-space with a dynamical boundary condition and unbounded initial data

We study the linear heat equation on a halfspace with a linear dynamical boundary condition. We are interested in an appropriate choice of the function space of initial functions such that the problem possesses a solution. It was known before that bounded initial data guarantee solvability. Here we extend that result by showing that data from a weighted Lebesgue space will also do so.

Refined asymptotic expansions of solutions to fractional diffusion equations

In this paper, as an improvement of the paper [K. Ishige, T. Kawakami and H. Michihisa, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 49 (2017) pp. 2167--2190], we obtain the higher order asymptotic expansions of the large time behavior of the solution to the Cauchy problem for inhomogeneous fractional diffusion equations and nonlinear fractional diffusion equations.

On weak solutions to a fractional Hardy-Hénon equation: Part II: Existence

This paper and [29] treat the existence and nonexistence of stable weak solutions to a fractional Hardy--Hénon equation $(-Δ)^s u = |x|^\ell |u|^{p-1} u$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$, where $0 < s < 1$, $\ell > -2s$, $p>1$, $N \geq 1$ and $N > 2s$. In this paper, when $p$ is critical or supercritical in the sense of the Joseph--Lundgren, we prove the existence of a family of positive radial stable solutions, which satisfies the separation property. We also show the multiple existence of the Joseph--Lundgren critical exponent for some $\ell \in (0,\infty)$ and $s \in (0,1)$, and this property does not hold in the case $s=1$.

Existence of solutions to nonlinear parabolic equations via majorant integral kernel

We establish the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem for a large class of nonlinear parabolic equations including fractional semilinear parabolic equations, higher-order semilinear parabolic equations, and viscous Hamilton-Jacobi equations by using the majorant kernel introduced in [K. Ishige, T. Kawakami, and S. Okabe, Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré Anal. Non Linéaire 37 (2020), 1185--1209].

On weak solutions to a fractional Hardy--Hénon equation: Part I: Nonexistence

This paper and [17] treat the existence and nonexistence of stable (resp. outside stable) weak solutions to a fractional Hardy--Hénon equation $(-Δ)^s u = |x|^\ell |u|^{p-1} u$ in $\mathbb{R}^N$ where $0 < s < 1$, $\ell > -2s$, $p>1$, $N \geq 1$ and $N > 2s$. In this paper, the nonexistence part is proved for the Joseph--Lundgren subcritical case.

Nonexistence of radial optimal functions for the Sobolev inequality on Cartan-Hadamard manifolds

It is well known that the Euclidean Sobolev inequality holds on any Cartan-Hadamard manifold of dimension $ n\ge 3 $, i.e. any complete, simply connected Riemannian manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature. As a byproduct of the Cartan-Hadamard conjecture, a longstanding problem in the mathematical literature settled only very recently in a breakthrough paper by Ghomi and Spruck, we can now assert that the optimal constant is also Euclidean, namely it coincides with the one achieved in the Euclidean space $ \mathbb{R}^n $ by the Aubin-Talenti functions. One may ask whether there exist at all optimal functions on a generic Cartan-Hadamard manifold $ \mathbb{M}^n $. What we prove here, with ad hoc arguments that do not take advantage of the validity of the Cartan-Hadamard conjecture, is that this is false at least for functions that are radially symmetric with respect to the geodesic distance from a fixed pole. More precisely, we show that if the optimum in the Sobolev inequality is achieved by some radial function, then $\mathbb{M}^n $ must be isometric to $ \mathbb{R}^n $.

Critical behavior for a semilinear parabolic equation with forcing term depending of time and space

We investigate the large-time behavior of the sign-changing solution of the inhomogeneous semilinear heat equation with a forcing term depending of time and space. we identify the critical exponent for this problem, which separates the nonexistence/existence of global-in-time solutions, and show the discontinuity of this critical exponent at the point which the inhomogeneous term becomes independent of time variable.
