Higher F-injective singularities

We introduce the concept of higher $F$-injectivity, a generalisation of $F$-injectivity. We prove that an isolated singularity over a field of characteristic zero is $k$-Du Bois if it is $k$-$F$-injective after reductions modulo infinitely many primes $p$. Under the ordinarity conjecture, we also establish the converse. As an application, we study Frobenius liftable hypersurfaces.

Quasi-F-splittings in birational geometry

We develop the theory of quasi-$F$-splittings in the context of birational geometry. Amongst other things, we obtain results on liftability of sections and establish a criterion for whether a scheme is quasi-$F$-split employing the higher Cartier operator. As one of the applications of our theory, we prove that three-dimensional klt singularities in large characteristic are quasi-$F$-split, and so, in particular, they lift modulo $p^2$.

Steenbrink-type vanishing for surfaces in positive characteristic

Let $(X,B)$ be a pair of a normal surface over a perfect field of characteristic $p>0$ and an effective $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor $B$ on $X$. We prove that Steenbrink-type vanishing holds for $(X,B)$ if it is log canonical and $p>5$, or it is $F$-pure. We also show that rational surface singularities satisfying the vanishing are $F$-injective.

Weak quasi-$F$-splitting and del Pezzo varieties

We show that smooth del Pezzo varieties in positive characteristic are quasi-$F$-split. To this end, we introduce weak quasi-$F$-splitting and we prove that general ladders of smooth del Pezzo varieties are normal.

Quasi-F-splittings in birational geometry II

Over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>41$, we prove that three-dimensional $\mathbb Q$-factorial affine klt varieties are quasi-$F$-split. Furthermore, we show that the bound on the characteristic is optimal.

Endomorphisms of varieties and Bott vanishing

We show that a projective variety with an int-amplified endomorphism of degree invertible in the base field satisfies Bott vanishing. This is a new way to analyze which varieties have nontrivial endomorphisms. In particular, we extend some classification results on varieties admitting endomorphisms (for Fano threefolds of Picard number one and several other cases) to any characteristic. The classification results in characteristic zero are due to Amerik-Rovinsky-Van de Ven, Hwang-Mok, Paranjape-Srinivas, Beauville, and Shao-Zhong. Our method also bounds the degree of morphisms into a given variety. Finally, we relate endomorphisms to global $F$-regularity.

Global $F$-regularity for weak del Pezzo surfaces

Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. Let $X$ be a normal projective surface over $k$ with canonical singularities whose anti-canonical divisor is nef and big. We prove that $X$ is globally $F$-regular except for the following cases: (1) $K_X^2=4$ and $p=2$, (2) $K_X^2=3$ and $p \in \{2, 3\}$, (3) $K_X^2=2$ and $p \in \{2, 3\}$, (4) $K_X^2=1$ and $p \in \{2, 3, 5\}$. For each degree $K_X^2$, the assumption of $p$ is optimal.

On Frobenius liftability of surface singularities

We show that a plt surface singularity $(P\in X,B)$ is $F$-liftable if and only if it is $F$-pure and is not a rational double point of type $E_8^1$ in characteristic $p=5$. As a consequence, we prove the logarithmic extension theorem for $F$-pure surface pairs and Bogomolov-Sommese vanishing for globally $F$-split surface pairs. These results were previously known to hold in characteristic $p>5$.

Extendability of differential forms via Cartier operators

Let $X$ be a normal variety over a perfect field of positive characteristic and $B$ a reduced divisor on $X$. We prove that if the Cartier isomorphism on the log smooth locus of $(X,B)$ extends to the entire $X$, then $(X,B)$ satisfies the logarithmic extension theorem for differential forms. As an application, we show that the logarithmic extension theorem holds for good quotients of smooth varieties by actions of reduced linearly reductive group schemes. In addition, the logarithmic extension theorem for one-forms holds for singularities of higher codimension under assumptions about Serre's condition. We also prove that tame quotients satisfy the regular extension theorem.

Bogomolov-Sommese vanishing and liftability for surface pairs in positive characteristic

We show that the Bogomolov-Sommese vanishing theorem holds for a log canonical projective surface in large characteristic unless the Iitaka dimension of the round-down of the log canonical divisor is not equal to two. As an application, we prove that a log resolution of a pair of a normal projective surface and a reduced divisor in large characteristic lifts to the ring of Witt vectors when the Iitaka dimension of the log canonical divisor is less than or equal to zero. Moreover, we give explicit and optimal bounds on the characteristic unless their Iitaka dimensions are equal to zero.

Pathologies and liftability of Du Val del Pezzo surfaces in positive characteristic

In this paper, we study pathologies of Du Val del Pezzo surfaces defined over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic by relating them to their non-liftability to the ring of Witt vectors. More precisely, we investigate the condition (NB): all the anti-canonical divisors are singular, (ND): there are no Du Val del Pezzo surfaces over the field of complex numbers with the same Dynkin type, Picard rank, and anti-canonical degree, (NK): there exists an ample $\mathbb{Z}$-divisor which violates the Kodaira vanishing theorem for $\mathbb{Z}$-divisors, and (NL): the pair $(Y, E)$ does not lift to the ring of Witt vectors, where $Y$ is the minimal resolution and $E$ is its reduced exceptional divisor. As a result, for each of these conditions, we determine all the Du Val del Pezzo surfaces which satisfy the given one.

On singularity types of del Pezzo surfaces with rational double points in positive characteristic

In this paper, we prove that a pair of the minimal resolution of a del Pezzo surface with rational double points whose general anti-canonical member is smooth and its exceptional divisor lifts to the Witt ring. We also classify a del Pezzo surface with rational double points whose anti-canonical members are all singular. As a corollary, we determine all singularity types of del Pezzo surfaces with rational double points which only appear in positive characteristic.
