Unparticle physics and Higgs phenomenology

Recently, conceptually new physics beyond the Standard Model has been proposed, where a hidden conformal sector provides ``unparticle'' which couples to the Standard Model sector through higher dimensional operators in low energy effective theory. Among several possibilities, we focus on operators involving unparticle, the Higgs doublet and the gauge bosons. Once the Higgs doublet develops the vacuum expectation value, the conformal symmetry is broken and as a result, the mixing between unparticle and Higgs boson emerges. We find that this mixing can cause sizable shifts for the couplings between Higgs boson and a pair of gluons and photons, because these couplings exist only at the loop level in the Standard Model. These Higgs couplings are the most important ones for the Higgs boson search at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, and the unparticle physics effects may be observed together with the discovery of Higgs boson.

Solving problems of 4D minimal SO(10) model in a warped extra dimension

The minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) model, an SO(10) framework with only one 10 and one 126 Higgs multiplets in the Yukawa sector, is attractive because of its high predictive power for the neutrino oscillation data. However, this model suffers from problems related to running of gauge couplings. The gauge coupling unification may be spoiled due to the presence of Higgs multiplets much lighter than the grand unification (GUT) scale. In addition, the gauge couplings blow up around the GUT scale because of the presence of Higgs multiplets of large representations. We consider the minimal SO(10) model in the warped extra dimension and find a possibility to solve these problems.

The current problems of the minimal SO(10) GUT and their solutions

This talk consists of two parts. In part I we review how the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric SO(10) model, an SO(10) framework with only one 10 and one 126 Higgs multiplets in the Yukawa sector, is attractive because of its highly predictive power. Indeed it not only gives a consistent predictions on neutrino oscillation data but also gives reasonable and interesting values for leptogenesis, LFV, muon g-2, neutrinoless double beta decay etc. In part II we consider the minimal SO(10) model in the warped extra dimension and show a possibility to solve these problems.

Axion and PVLAS data in a Little Higgs model

Little Higgs models may provide a solution to the gauge hierarchy problem in the mass of the Higgs boson. In this framework the Higgs boson is arisen as the pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone (PNG) boson. We show that the lepton triplet introduced in a little Higgs model explains a small mass parameter in the double see-saw mechanism for neutrino masses, and it can also gives an explanation for the axion like particle recently reported by PVLAS collaboration.

D-term Contributions to the Mixed Modulus-Anomaly Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

We investigate effects of D-term contributions to the mixed modulus-anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. In the original scenario, the tachyonic slepton problem in the pure anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking is cured by modulus contributions. We generalize the scenario so as to include contributions from the D-terms of U(1)_Y and the gauged U(1)_{B-L} which is motivated in a grand unified theory based on a higher rank gauge group such as SO(10). As a consequence of additional $D$-term contributions to scalar masses, we obtain various soft supersymmetry breaking mass spectra, which are different from those obtained in the conventional mixed modulus-anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking. Especially, we find that the lightest superpartner (LSP) neutralinos can be various types, such as Higgsino-like, wino-like and bino-like degenerating with the next LSP sfermions.

Radiative Breaking Scenario for the GUT gauge symmetry

The origin of the GUT scale from the top down perspective is explored. The GUT gauge symmetry is broken by the renormalization group effects, which is an extension of the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking scenario to the GUT models. That is, in the same way as the origin of the electroweak scale, the GUT scale is generated from the Planck scale through the radiative corrections to the soft SUSY breaking mass parameters. This mechanism is applied to a perturbative SO(10) GUT model, recently proposed by us. In the SO(10) model, the relation between the GUT scale and the Planck scale can naturally be realized by using order one coupling constants.

Electroweak inflation and reheating in the NMSSM

A low reheating temperature is now well motivated by the recently reconsidered gravitino problem, if we incorporate supergravity. In this article, we propose a model which naturally realizes a low reheating temperature. The model is based on the next to minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) by identifying a singlet scalar field as the inflaton. This entertains the possibility that the inflaton may be detected at future colliders, such as the LHC.

Reheat Temperature and the Right-handed Neutrino Mass

We discuss the reheating temperature in the instant preheating scenario. In this scenario, at the last stage of inflation, the inflaton field first decays into another scalar field with an enormous number density via the instant preheating mechanism. Subsequently, the produced scalar field decays into normal matter accompanied by the usual reheating mechanism. As an inflationary model, we identify the inflaton as a field which gives rise to a mass for the right-handed (s)neutrino. One of the interesting consequences of the instant preheating mechanism is the fact that the reheating temperature is proportional to the mass of the decayed particle, {\it the right-handed sneutrino}, $T_R \propto M_R$. This is very different from the ordinary perturbative reheating scenario in which the reheating temperature is proportional to the mass of the inflaton.

de Vaucouleurs-Ikeuchi Diagram and Commutation Relations among Phase Space Coordinates

We consider the relations between de Vaucouleurs-Ikeuchi diagram and generalized commutation relations among the coordinates and momenta. All physical objects in the Universe ranging from elementary particles to super cluster of galaxies are confined within the Triangle of the de Vaucouleurs-Ikeuchi diagram on the matter density versus scale length plane. These three boundaries are characterized by the quantum uncertainty principle, gravitational event horizon, and cosmological constant. These are specified by the non-zero commutation relations $[x_μ,p_ν], [x_μ, x_ν]$ (strictly $[x_i,t]$) and $[p_μ,p_ν]$, respectively. The canonical commutation relation $[x_i,p_j]$ are slightly modified, which preserves the self consistency as a whole.

Higgs Masses in the Minimal SUSY SO(10) GUT

We explicitly show that minimal SUSY SO(10) Higgs-Higgsino mass matrices evaluated by various groups are mutually consistent and correct. We comment on the corresponding results of other authors. We construct one-to-one mappings of our approach to the approaches of other authors.

SO(10) Group Theory for the Unified Model Building

The complete tables of Clebsh-Gordan (CG) coefficients for a wide class of SO(10) SUSY grand unified theories (GUTs) are given. Explicit expression of all states and corresponding multiplets under standard model gauge group G_{321} = SU(3)_C x SU(2)_L x U(1)_Y, necessary for evaluation of the CG coefficients are presented. The SUSY SO(10) GUT model considered here incudes most of the Higgs irreducible representations usually used in the literature: 10, 45, 54, 120, 126 126-bar and 210. Mass matrices of all G_{321} multiplets are found for the most general superpotential. These results are indispensible for the precision calculations of the gauge coupling unification and proton decay, etc.

Lepton Flavour Violating Leptonic/Semileptonic Decays of Charged Leptons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

We consider the leptonic and semileptonic (SL) lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays of the charged leptons in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The formalism for evaluation of branching fractions for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays with one or two pseudoscalar mesons, or one vector meson in the final state, is given. Previous amplitudes for the SL LFV charged-lepton decays in MSSM are improved, for instance the $γ$-penguin amplitude is corrected to assure the gauge invariance. The decays are studied not only in the model-independent formulation of the theory in the frame of MSSM, but also within the frame of the minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model within which the parameters of the MSSM are determined. The latter model gives predictions for the neutrino-Dirac Yukawa coupling matrix, once free parameters in the model are appropriately fixed to accommodate the recent neutrino oscillation data. Using this unambiguous neutrino-Dirac Yukawa couplings, we calculate the LFV leptonic and SL decay processes assuming the minimal supergravity scenario. A very detailed numerical analysis is done to constrain the MSSM parameters. Numerical results for SL LFV processes are given, for instance for tau -> e (mu) pi0, tau -> e (mu) eta, tau -> e (mu) eta', tau -> e (mu) rho0, tau -> e (mu) phi, tau -> e (mu) omega, etc.

Non-thermal Leptogenesis and a Prediction of Inflaton Mass in a Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

The gravitino problem gives a severe constraint on the thermal leptogenesis scenario. This problem leads us to consider some alternatives to it if we try to keep the gravitino mass around the weak scale $m_{3/2} \sim 100$ GeV. We consider, in this paper, the non-thermal leptogenesis scenario in the framework of a minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model. Even if we start with the same minimal SO(10) model, we have different predictions for low-energy phenomenologies dependent on the types of seesaw mechanism. This is the case for leptogenesis: it is shown that the type-I see-saw model gives a consistent scenario for the non-thermal leptogenesis but not for type-II. The predicted inflaton mass needed to produce the observed baryon asymmetry of the universe is found to be $M_I \sim 5 \times 10^{11}$ GeV for the reheating temperature $T_R = 10^6$ GeV.

Neutrino Oscillations in a Supersymmetric SO(10) Model with Type-III See-Saw Mechanism

The neutrino oscillations are studied in the framework of the minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model with Type-III see-saw mechanism by additionally introducing a number of SO(10) singlet neutrinos. The light Majorana neutrino mass matrix is given by a combination of those of the singlet neutrinos and the $SU(2)_L$ active neutrinos. The minimal SO(10) model gives an unambiguous Dirac neutrino mass matrix, which enables us to predict the masses and the other parameters for the singlet neutrinos. These predicted masses take the values accessible and testable by near future collider experiments under the reasonable assumptions. More comprehensive calculations on these parameters are also given.

Axion and Right-handed Neutrino in the Minimal SUSY SO(10) Model

The connection between the axion and right-handed neutrinos is explored in the framework of the minimal SUSY SO(10) model. The former is related to the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) solution to the strong CP problem and the latter is to the light Majorana neutrinos through the see-saw mechanism. In this model, a relative phase between $({\bf 10,1,3}) (\equiv {\bf \barΔ}_R) \subset {\bf \bar{126}}$ and $({\bf \bar{10},1,3}) (\equiv {\bf Δ}_R) \subset {\bf 126}$ multiplets of ${\rm SU}(4) \times {\rm SU}(2)_L \times {\rm SU}(2)_R \subset {\rm SO}(10)$ becomes a physical degree of freedom identified with the axion. Then, the PQ symmetry breaking scale ($Λ_{\rm PQ}$) and the $B-L$ symmetry breaking scale ($Λ_{\rm B-L}$) coincide through the VEV of ${\bf \barΔ}_R$. The scalar partner of the lightest right-handed neutrino is regarded as the inflaton, which gives a consistent density fluctuation for the CMB.

Perturbative SO(10) Grand Unification

We consider a phenomenologically viable SO(10) grand unification model of the unification scale $M_G$ around $10^{16} $ GeV which reproduces the MSSM at low energy and allows perturbative calculations up to the Planck scale $M_P$ or the string scale $M_{st}$. Both requirements strongly restrict a choice of Higgs representations in a model. We propose a simple SO(10) model with a set of Higgs representations $\{2 \times {\bf 10} + {\bf \bar{16}} + {\bf 16} + {\bf 45} \}$ and show its phenomenological viability. This model can indeed reproduce the low-energy experimental data relating the charged fermion masses and mixings. Neutrino oscillation data can be consistently incorporated in the model, leading to the right-handed neutrino mass scale $M_R \simeq M_G^2/M_P$. Furthermore, there exists a parameter region which results the proton life time consistent with the experimental results.

Lepton Flavour Violation in the Minimal SO(10) GUT Model and in the Standard Model with additional Heavy Dirac Neutrinos

Lepton flavour violation is considered in two models, Standard Model with additional heavy Dirac neutrinos and minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with SO(10) theoretical frame and minimal SUGRA (mSUGRA) SUSY-breaking mediation mechanism. The models are briefly explained. The structure of the amplitudes for neutrinoless decays of the lepton into a lepton and semileptonic neutrinoless decays of a lepton is given. The method for identification of meson content in the quark currents is exposed. The comparison of the amplitudes is made showing which of the processes have the largest branching ratios. The numerical results for the dominant decay rates are presented.

Neutrino Magnetic Moments and Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

We examine supersymmetric contributions to transition magnetic moments of Majorana neutrinos. We first give the general formula for it. In concrete evaluations, informations of neutrino mass matrix elements including CP phases are necessary. Using unambiguously determined neutrino mass matrices in recently proposed minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, the transition magnetic moments are calculated. The resultant neutrino magnetic moments are found to be roughly an order of magnitude larger than those calculated in the standard model extended to incorporate the see-saw mechanism.
