Parametric instability of classical Yang-Mills fields in a color magnetic background

We investigate instabilities of classical Yang-Mills fields in a time-dependent spatially homogeneous color magnetic background field in a non-expanding geometry for elucidating the earliest stage dynamics of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The background gauge field configuration considered in this article is spatially homogeneous and temporally periodic, and is alluded by Berges-Scheffler-Schlichting-Sexty (BSSS). We discuss the whole structure of instability bands of fluctuations around the BSSS background gauge field on the basis of Floquet theory, which enables us to discuss the stability in a systematic way. We find various instability bands on the $(p_z, p_T)$-plane. These instability bands are caused by parametric resonance despite the fact that the momentum dependence of the growth rate for $|\mathbf{p}| \leq \sqrt{B}$ is similar to a Nielsen-Olesen instability. Moreover, some of instability bands are found to emerge not only in the low momentum but also in the high momentum region; typically of the order of the saturation momentum as $|\mathbf{p}| \sim \sqrt{B} \sim Q_{\rm s}$.

Possible medium effects on η-π^0 mixing and η\rightarrow π^0 π^+ π^- decay in the asymmetric nuclear matter

It is known that the decay process η\rightarrowπ^0π^+π^- in free space is possible due to the isospin-symmetry breaking in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), i.e., the small mass difference between u and d quarks: The small width is intimately related with the mixing property between ηand π^0 mesons for which the chiral anomaly play a role. In asymmetric nuclear matter such as heavy nuclei, isospin-symmetry breaking is large and it is expected that the mixing property of the mesons changes significantly and the above-mentioned decay width of the ηcreated in such a medium may be enhanced. This is an intriguing possibility to revealing a medium effect on a hadron in nuclei. We apply the in-medium chiral perturbation theory to estimate the modification of the η-π^0 mixing angle and the partial width of ηπ^0π^+π^- in asymmetric nuclear matter as a function of the isospin asymmetry. We find that these quantities can be greatly enhanced in neutron-rich matter, which should be deteactable in experiment.

The $η$ decay into 3$π$ in asymmetric nuclear medium

We explore how the $η$-$π^0$ mixing angle and the $η$ meson decay into $π^{+}π^{-}π^0$ and 3$π^{0}$ are modified in the nuclear medium on the basis of the in-medium chiral effective theory with the isospin asymmetry $α$ varied, where $α\equiv δρ/ρ$ with $δρ=ρ_n-ρ_p$ and $ρ=ρ_n+ρ_p$. We find that the larger the isospin asymmetry $δρ$ and smaller the total density $ρ$, the more enhanced the mixing angle. We show that the decay width in the nuclear medium has an additional density dependence which cannot be renormalized into that of the mixing angle: The additional term originates from the vertex proportional to a low energy constant $c_1$, which only comes into play in the nuclear medium but not in the free space. It turns out that the resultant density effect on the decay widths overwhelms that coming from the isospin asymmetry, and the higher the $ρ$, the more enhanced the decay widths; the width for the $π^{+}π^{-}π^0$ decay is enhanced with a factor two to three at the normal density $ρ_0$ with a minor increase due to $δρ$, while that for the 3$π^0$ decay shows only a small increase of around 10 percent even at $ρ_0$. We mention the possible relevance of the partial restoration of chiral symmetry to the unexpected density effect on the decay widths in the nuclear medium.

Emergence of soft quark excitations by the coupling with a soft mode of the QCD critical point

We study the quark spectrum at nonzero temperature and density near the critical point (CP) of the chiral phase transition incorporating effects of the scalar- and pseudoscalar-density fluctuations in a chiral effective model with a nonzero current quark mass. It is known that the soft mode associated with the second-order transition at the CP lies in the spacelike region of the scalar-density fluctuation. We find that the soft mode influences the quark spectrum significantly near the CP, resulting in the shift of the quasiquark peak. Effects of the composite stable pions on the quark spectrum near the CP are also discussed.

Time evolution of gluon coherent state and its von Neumann entropy in heavy-ion collisions

We propose a new prescription for evaluating a von Neumann entropy in the initial stage of high-energy heavy-ion collisions utilizing the time evolution of classical Yang-Mills (CYM) field: The von Neumann entropy is computed for the quantum coherent states constructed so as to give the classical gluon fields as the expectation values. The entropy is to be liberated when the complete decoherence is achieved. As a demonstration, the time evolution of the CYM dynamics is solved with an initial condition which mimics the Glasma state, though in a non-expanding geometry; the Glasma state is characterized by the longitudinal color-electric and -magnetic fields with gluon fields' fluctuations around it. We find that the initial longitudinal fluctuations of the fields play essential roles for the entropy production in two ways: First, the field fluctuations at $t=0$ themselves act as a source of the von Neumann entropy prepared before the time evolution. Second, the initial fluctuations triggers field instabilities, and hence the larger the strength of them, the more the entropy production at later time.

Possible generation of anomalously soft quark excitations at nonzero temperature: Nonhyperbolic dispersion of parapion and van Hove singularity

We study the quark spectrum at finite temperature near and above the pseudocritical temperature of the chiral phase transition incorporating the effects of the collective modes with the quantum number of the sigma (parasigma) and pion (parapion) in a chiral effective model with a nonzero current quark mass. Below the pion zero-binding temperature where the pionic modes are bound, the quark self-energy has van Hove singularity induced by the scattering of quarks with the composite bound pions with a nonhyperbolic dispersion curve. This singularity is found to cause a drastic change in the quark spectrum from that in the mean field picture near the pseudocritical temperature: The quark spectrum has an unexpected sharp peak at an energy considerably lower than the constituent quark mass, while the spectrum approaches the mean field one at high temperatures. We clarify that the emergence of this anomalous structure of the quark spectral function originates from the composite nature of the pionic modes with a non-Lorentz invariant dispersion relation in the medium at finite temperature.

Neutrino spectral density at electroweak scale temperature

Motivated by the scenario of resonant leptogenesis in which lepton number creation in the electroweak-scale is relevant, we investigate the spectral properties and possible collective nature of the standard model neutrinos at electroweak scale temperature (T). We adopt the R_xi gauge fixing, which includes the unitary gauge as a limiting case, and allows us to study the broken as well as the restored phases of the gauge symmetry in a unified way. We show that the spectral density of the neutrino has a three-peak structure in the low-momentum region due to the scattering with the thermally excited particles (i.e., Landau damping) when T becomes comparable to the weak-boson masses in the plasma. The three peaks are identified with a novel ultrasoft mode, the usual quasiparticle, and antiplasmino modes. Varying the gauge-fixing parameter, we show that the three-peak structure appears independently of the gauge fixing and thus has a physical significance. We discuss possible implications of the neutrino spectral density obtained in the present work on particle cosmology, in particular in the context of resonant leptogenesis.

Entropy production in classical Yang-Mills theory from Glasma initial conditions

We study the thermalization process in classical Yang-Mills (CYM) field theory starting from noisy glasma-like initial conditions by investigating the initial-value sensitivity of trajectories. Kunihiro et al. linked entropy generation to the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, which gives the entropy production rate in classical chaotic systems, calculated numerically for CYM fields starting from purely random initial field configurations. In contrast, we here study glasma-like initial conditions. For small random fluctuations we obtain qualitatively similar results while no entropy increase is observed when such fluctuations are absent. We analyze the intermediate time Lyapunov spectrum for several time windows and calculate the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy. We find a large number of positive Lyapunov exponents at the early stages of time evolution. Also for later times their number is a sizeable fraction of the total number of degrees of freedom. The spectrum of positive Lyapunov exponents at first changes rapidly, but then stabilizes, indicating that the dynamics of the gauge fields approaches a steady state. Thus we conclude that also for glasma-like initial conditions a significant amount of entropy is produced by classical gluon field dynamics.

Derivation of relativistic hydrodynamic equations consistent with relativistic Boltzmann equation by renormalization-group method

We review our work on the application of the renormalization-group method to obtain first- and second-order relativistic hydrodynamics of the relativistic Boltzmann equation (RBE) as a dynamical system, with some corrections and new unpublished results. For the first-order equation, we explicitly obtain the distribution function in the asymptotic regime as the invariant manifold of the dynamical system, which turns out to be nothing but the matching condition defining the energy frame, i.e., the Landau-Lifshitz one. It is argued that the frame on which the flow of the relativistic hydrodynamic equation is defined must be the energy frame, if the dynamics should be consistent with the underlying RBE. A sketch is also given for derivation of the second-order hydrodynamic equation, i.e., extended thermodynamics, which is accomplished by extending the invariant manifold so that it is spanned by excited modes as well as the zero modes (hydrodynamic modes) of the linearized collision operator. On the basis of thus constructed resummed distribution function, we propose a novel ansatz for the functional form to be used in Grad moment method; it is shown that our theory gives the same expressions for the transport coefficients as those given in the Chapman-Enskog theory as well as the novel expressions for the relaxation times and lengths allowing natural interpretation.

Uniqueness of Landau-Lifshitz Energy Frame in Relativistic Dissipative Hydrodynamics

We show that the relativistic dissipative hydrodynamic equation derived from the relativistic Boltzmann equation by the renormalization-group method uniquely leads to the one in the energy frame proposed by Landau and Lifshitz, provided that the macroscopic-frame vector, which defines the local rest frame of the fluid velocity, is independent of the momenta of constituent particles, as it should. We argue that the relativistic hydrodynamic equations for viscous fluids must be defined on the energy frame if it is consistent with the underlying relativistic kinetic equation.

New forms of non-relativistic and relativistic hydrodynamic equations as derived by the renormalization-group method - possible functional ansatz in the moment method consistent with Chapman-Enskog theory -

After a brief account of the derivation of the first-order relativistic hydrodynamic equation as a construction of the invariant manifold of relativistic Boltzmann equation, we give a sketch of derivation of the second-order hydrodynamic equation (extended thermodynamics) both in the nonrelativistic and relativistic cases. We show that the resultant equation suggests a novel ansatz for the functional form to be used in Grad moment method, which turns out to give the same expressions for the transport coefficients as those given in the Chapman-Enskog theory as well as the novel expressions for the relaxation times and lenghts allowing natural physical interpretaion.

Axial Anomaly, Mismatched Fermi Surfaces and Vector Interaction in Dense Neutral Quark Matter

We report on effects of the q-$\bar{\rm q}$ vector interaction and/or the U(1)$_A$-anomaly-induced chiral-diquark coupling on the charge-neutral quark matter in $β$-equilibrium. We show that when the vector coupling is absent, there can appear a cross-over region sandwiched by two critical points in the intermediate temperature ($T$) region, while the phase transition in the low-$T$ region including zero temperature keeps being first order until the strength of the anomaly term is increased to have a critical value. On the other hand, when the vector coupling is also present, there appears a crossover region in the low-$T$ area including zero temperature with a new critical point, as was first demonstrated by Kitazawa et al and the present authors without and with the charge-neutral condition, respectively. We remark that the possible chromomagnetic instability is suppressed and can be even completely absent owing to the enhanced diquark coupling due to the anomaly term and/or by the vector interaction.

Ultrasoft Fermionic Mode in Yukawa Theory at High Temperature

We explore whether an ultrasoft fermionic mode exists at extremely high temperature in Yukawa theory with massless fermion (coupling constant is g). We find that the fermion propagator has a pole at ω= \pm p/3-iζ, for ultrasoft momentum p, where ζ\sim g^4T ln 1/g, and the residue is Z \sim g^2. It is shown that one needs to take into account the asymptotic masses and the damping rate of hard particles to get a sensible result for such an ultrasoft fermionic mode; possible vertex correction turns out unnecessary for the scalar coupling in contrast to the gauge coupling.

Ultrasoft Fermionic Modes at High Temperature

A possible collective fermionic excitation in the ultrasoft energy-momentum region is examined in Yukawa model with scalar coupling and quantum electrodynamics (QED) with g being coupling constant at extremely high temperature T where the fermion mass is negligible. We analytically sum up the ladder diagrams for the vertex correction in the leading order in QED, which is not necessary in the Yukawa model, and find that the fermion pole exists at ω= \pm p/3-iζwith ultrasoft momentum p both for the Yukawa model and QED; ζis the sum of the damping rates of fermion and boson with hard momenta. We also obtain the expression of the residue of the pole, which is as small as of order g^2. We show that the fermion propagator and the vertex function satisfy the Ward-Takahashi identity in QED. Thus we establish the existence of an ultrasoft fermionic mode at extremely high temperature, which was originally called phonino and was suggested in the context of supersymmetry and its breaking at finite T. We discuss the possible origin of such an ultrasoft fermionic mode without recourse to supersymmetry. The case of QCD is briefly mentioned.

First-principle Derivation of Stable First-order Generic-frame Relativistic Dissipative Hydrodynamic Equations from Kinetic Theory by Renormalization-group Method

We derive first-order relativistic dissipative hydrodynamic equations (RDHEs) from relativistic Boltzmann equation (RBE) on the basis of the renormalization-group (RG) method. We introduce a macroscopic-frame vector (MFV) to specify the local rest frame (LRF) on which the macroscopic dynamics is described. The five hydrodynamic modes are identified with the same number of the zero modes of the linearized collision operator, i.e., the collision invariants. After defining the inner product in the function space spanned by the distribution function, the higher-order terms, which give rise to the dissipative effects, are constructed so that they are orthogonal to the zero modes in terms of the inner product: Here, any ansatz's, such as the so-called conditions of fit used in the standard methods in an ad-hoc way, are not necessary. We elucidate that the Burnett term dose not affect the RDHEs owing to the very nature of the hydrodynamic modes as the zero modes. Applying the RG equation, we obtain the RDHE in a generic LRF specified by the MFV, as the coarse-grained and covariant equation. Our generic RDHE reduces to RDHEs in various LRFs, including the energy and particle LRFs with a choice of the MFV. We find that our RDHE in the energy LRF coincides with that of Landau and Lifshitz, while the derived RDHE in the particle LRF is slightly different from that of Eckart, owing to the presence of the dissipative internal energy. We prove that the Eckart equation can not be compatible with the underlying RBE. The proof is made on the basis of the observation that the orthogonality condition to the zero modes coincides with the ansatz's posed on the dissipative parts of the energy-momentum tensor and the particle current in the phenomenological RDHEs. We also present an analytic proof that all of our RDHEs have a stable equilibrium state owing to the positive definiteness of the inner product.

Roles of axial anomaly on neutral quark matter with color superconducting phase

We investigate effects of the axial anomaly term with a chiral-diquark coupling on the phase diagram within a two-plus-one-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model under the charge-neutrality and $β$-equilibrium constraints. We find that when such constraints are imposed, the new anomaly term plays a quite similar role as the vector interaction does on the phase diagram, which the present authors clarified in a previous work. Thus, there appear several types of phase structures with multiple critical points at low temperature $T$, although the phase diagrams with intermediate-$T$ critical point(s) are never realized without these constraints even within the same model Lagrangian. This drastic change is attributed to an enhanced interplay between the chiral and diquark condensates due to the anomaly term at finite temperature; the u-d diquark coupling is strengthened by the relatively large chiral condensate of the strange quark through the anomaly term, which in turn definitely leads to the abnormal behavior of the diquark condensate at finite $T$, inherent to the asymmetric quark matter. We note that the critical point from which the crossover region extends to zero temperature appears only when the strength of the vector interaction is larger than a critical value. We also show that the chromomagnetic instability of the neutral asymmetric homogenous two-flavor color superconducting(2CSC) phase is suppressed and can be even completely cured by the enhanced diquark coupling due to the anomaly term and/or by the vector interaction.

Renormalized Linear Kinetic Theory as Derived from Quantum Field Theory - a novel diagrammatic method for computing transport coefficients -

We propose a novel diagrammatic method for computing transport coefficients in relativistic quantum field theory. The self-consistent equation for summing the diagrams with pinch singularities has a form of a linearized kinetic equation as usual, but our formalism enables us to incorporate higher-order corrections of the coupling systematically for the first time. Furthermore, it is clarified that the higher-order corrections are nicely summarized into that of the vertex function, spectral function, and collision term. We identify the diagrams up to the next-to-next-leading order corrections in the weak coupling expansion of phi^4 theory, which is a difficult task in kinetic approaches and other diagrammatic methods.

Multiple critical point structure for chiral phase transition induced by charge neutrality and vector interaction

The combined effect of the repulsive vector interaction and the positive electric chemical potential on the chiral phase transition is investigated by considering neutral color superconductivity. Under the charge-neutrality constraint, the chiral condensate, diquark condensate and quark number densities are obtained in two-plus-one-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the so called Kobayashi-Maskawa-'t Hooft term. We demonstrate that multiple chiral critical-point structures always exist in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model within the self-consistent mean-field approximation, and that the number of chiral critical points can vary from zero to four, which is dependent on the magnitudes of vector interaction and the diquark coupling.
