Abbott-Deser energy in connection with Thirring's superpotentials

We linearize vacuum Einstein field equations with a cosmological constant around a curved background to elaborate on the reconstruction of the Abbott-Deser charges and incorporate a spin connection into the definition using the algebra of differential forms on a given curved background spacetime.

Masses and Mixing of Neutral Leptons in a Grand Unified E_6 Model with Intermediate Pati-Salam Symmetry

A brief review of the assignment of elementary fermions and bosons to irreducible multiplets in grand unified $E_6$ models is followed by a discussion of different, hierarchical symmetry breaking chains from $E_6$ down to $SU(3)_C \times U(1)_{EM}$. We concentrate here on a model with an intermediate Pati-Salam symmetry for which $(B-L)$ is conserved. In particular, the mass/mixing matrix of electrically neutral fermions (i.e.neutrinos) that would be derived from Yukawa couplings is constructed. The pattern of neutrino masses and some bounds on mixing parameters are discussed.

Anisotropic inflation with a non-minimally coupled electromagnetic field to gravity

We consider the non-minimal model of gravity in $Y(R) F^2$-form. We investigate a particular case of the model, for which the higher order derivatives are eliminated but the scalar curvature $R$ is kept to be dynamical via the constraint $Y_RF_{mn}F^{mn} =-\frac{2}{κ^2}$. The effective fluid obtained can be represented by interacting electromagnetic field and vacuum depending on $Y(R)$, namely, the energy density of the vacuum tracks $R$ while energy density of the conventional electromagnetic field is dynamically scaled with the factor $\frac{Y(R)}{2}$. We give exact solutions for anisotropic inflation by assuming the volume scale factor of the Universe exhibits a power-law expansion. The directional scale factors do not necessarily exhibit power-law expansion, which would give rise to a constant expansion anisotropy, but expand non-trivially and give rise to a non-monotonically evolving expansion anisotropy that eventually converges to a non-zero constant. Relying on this fact, we discuss the anisotropic e-fold during the inflation by considering observed scale invariance in CMB and demanding the Universe to undergo the same amount of e-folds in all directions. We calculate the residual expansion anisotropy at the end of inflation, though as a result of non-monotonic behaviour of expansion anisotropy all the axes of the Universe undergo the same of amount of e-folds by the end of inflation. We also discuss the generation of the modified electromagnetic field during the first few e-folds of the inflation and its persistence against to the vacuum till end of inflation.

Impulsive gravitational waves in general massive 3D gravity

Impulsive, non-diverging, Petrov-Segre type N gravitational wave solutions to a general massive three-dimensional gravity in the de Sitter, anti-de Sitter and flat Minkowski backgrounds are constructed in a unified manner by using the exterior algebra of differential forms.

Linearized gravity in terms of differential forms

A technique to linearize gravitational field equations is developed in which the perturbation metric coefficients are treated as second rank, symmetric, 1-form fields belonging to the Minkowski background spacetime by using the exterior algebra of differential forms.

Accelerated Expansion of the Universe in a Higher Dimensional Modified Gravity with Euler-Poincaré Terms

A higher dimensional modified gravity theory with an action that includes dimensionally continued Euler-Poincaré forms up to second order in curvatures is considered. The variational field equations are derived. Matter in the universe at large scales is modeled by a fluid satisfying an equation of state with dimensional dichotomy. We study solutions that describe higher dimensional steady state cosmologies with constant volume for which the three dimensional external space is expanding at an accelerated rate while the (compact) internal space is contracting. We showed that the second order Euler-Poincaré term in the constructions of higher dimensional steady state cosmologies could be crucial.

A nonminimally coupled Einstein-Maxwell model in a non-Riemann space-time with torsion

A system of field equations for an Einstein-Maxwell model with $RF^2$-type nonminimal coupling in a non-Riemannian space-time with a non-vanishing torsion is derived and the resulting field equations are expressed in terms of the Riemannian quantities based on a metric with a Lorentzian signature. The torsion is generated by the gradients of the electromagnetic field invariants. An electromagnetic constitutive tensor is introduced in the formulation of the field equations.

A divergence-free parametrization for dynamical dark energy

We introduce a new parametrization for the dark energy, led by the same idea to the linear expansion of the equation of state in scale factor $a$ and in redshift $z$, which diverges neither in the past nor future and contains the same number of degrees of freedom with the former two. We present constraints of the cosmological parameters using the most updated baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements along with cosmic microwave background (CMB) data and a recent reanalysis of Type Ia supernova (SN) data. This new parametrization allowed us to carry out successive observational analyses by decreasing its degrees of freedom systematically until ending up with a dynamical dark energy model that has the same number of parameters with $Λ$CDM. We found that the dark energy source with a dynamical equation of state parameter equal $-2/3$ at the early universe and $-1$ today fits the data slightly better than $Λ$.

General solution of a cosmological model induced from higher dimensions using a kinematical constraint

In a recent study Akarsu and Dereli (Gen. Relativ. Gravit. 45:1211, 2013) discussed the dynamical reduction of a higher dimensional cosmological model which is augmented by a kinematical constraint characterized by a single real parameter, correlating and controlling the expansion of both the external (physical) and internal spaces. In that paper explicit solutions were found only for the case of three dimensional internal space ($n=3$). Here we derive a general solution of the system using Lie group symmetry properties, in parametric form for arbitrary number $n=1,2,3,\dots$ of internal dimensions. We also investigate the dynamical reduction of the model as a function of cosmic time $t$ for various values of $n$ and generate parametric plots to discuss cosmologically relevant results.

Z2 Topological insulator of ultra cold atoms in bichromatic optical lattices

We investigate the effect of a strong bichromatic deformation to the $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$ topological insulator in a fermionic ultracold atomic system proposed by B. Béri and N. R. Cooper, Phys.Rev.Lett. {\bf 107}, 145301 (2011). Large insulating gap of this system allows for examination of strong perturbations. We consider bichromatic perturbation along all axes on a triangular optical lattice. We find that $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$ topological character of the system is robust up to a certain depth of the deformation. The lowest band can become topologically trivial while the lowest two bands are always protected.

Accelerating anisotropic cosmologies in Brans-Dicke gravity coupled to a mass-varying vector field

The field equations of Brans-Dicke gravity coupled to a mass-varying vector field are derived. Anisotropic cosmological solutions with a locally rotationally symmetric Bianchi type I metric and time-dependent scalar and electric vector fields are studied. A particular class of exact solutions for which all the variable parameters have a power-law time dependence is given. The universe expands with a constant expansion anisotropy within this class of solutions. We show that the accelerating expansion is driven by the scalar field and the electric vector field can be interpreted as an anisotropic dark matter source.

Probing kinematics and fate of the Universe with linearly time-varying deceleration parameter

The parametrizations $q=q_0+q_1 z$ and $q=q_0+q_1 (1-a/a_0)$ (Chevallier-Polarski-Linder parametrization) of deceleration parameter, which are linear in cosmic redshift $z$ and scale factor $a$, have been frequently utilized in the literature to study kinematics of Universe. In this paper, we follow a strategy that leads to these two well known parametrizations of deceleration parameter as well as an additional new parametrization $q=q_0+q_1(1-t/t_0)$, which is linear in cosmic time $t$. We study the features of this linearly time-varying deceleration parameter in contrast with the other two linear parametrizations. We investigate in detail the kinematics of the Universe by confronting the three models with the latest observational data. We further study the dynamics of the Universe by considering the linearly time-varying deceleration parameter model in comparison with the standard $Λ$CDM model. We also discuss future of the Universe in the context of the models under consideration.

The advantage of this system is the possibility of implementing it in the fermionic ultracold atomic system whose nearly free electron limit is proposed by B. Béri and N. R. Cooper, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 107}, 145301 (2011).

A four-dimensional ΛCDM-type cosmological model induced from higher dimensions using a kinematical constraint

A class of cosmological solutions of higher dimensional Einstein field equations with the energy-momentum tensor of a homogeneous, isotropic fluid as the source are considered with an anisotropic metric that includes the direct sum of a 3-dimensional (physical, flat) external space metric and an n-dimensional (compact, flat) internal space metric. A simple kinematical constraint is postulated that correlates the expansion rates of the external and internal spaces in terms of a real parameter λ. A specific solution for which both the external and internal spaces expand at different rates is given analytically for n=3. Assuming that the internal dimensions were at Planck length scales when the external space starts with a Big Bang (t=0), they expand only 1.49 times and stay at Planck length scales even in the present age of the universe (13.7 Gyr). The effective four dimensional universe would exhibit a behavior consistent with our current understanding of the observed universe. It would start in a stiff fluid dominated phase and evolve through radiation dominated and pressureless matter dominated phases, eventually going into a de Sitter phase at late times.

The Dynamical Evolution of 3-Space in a Higher Dimensional Steady State Universe

We investigate a class of cosmological solutions of Einstein's field equations in higher dimensions with a cosmological constant and an ideal fluid matter distribution as a source. We discuss the dynamical evolution of the universe subject to two constraints that (i) the total volume scale factor of the universe is constant and (ii) the effective energy density is constant. We obtain various interesting new dynamics for the external space that yield a time varying deceleration parameter including oscillating cases when the flat/curved external and curved/flat internal spaces are considered. We also comment on how the universe would be conceived by an observer in four dimensions who is unaware of the extra dimensions.

Late Time Acceleration of the 3-Space in a Higher Dimensional Steady State Universe in Dilaton Gravity

We present cosmological solutions for (1+3+n)-dimensional steady state universe in dilaton gravity with an arbitrary dilaton coupling constant w and exponential dilaton self-interaction potentials in the string frame. We focus particularly on the class in which the 3-space expands with a time varying deceleration parameter. We discuss the number of the internal dimensions and the value of the dilaton coupling constant to determine the cases that are consistent with the observed universe and the primordial nucleosynthesis. The 3-space starts with a decelerated expansion rate and evolves into accelerated expansion phase subject to the values of w and n, but ends with a Big Rip in all cases. We discuss the cosmological evolution in further detail for the cases w=1 and w=1/2 that permit exact solutions. We also comment on how the universe would be conceived by an observer in four dimensions who is unaware of the internal dimensions and thinks that the conventional general relativity is valid at cosmological scales.

A Comparison of the LVDP and ΛCDM Cosmological Models

We compare the cosmological kinematics obtained via our law of linearly varying deceleration parameter (LVDP) with the kinematics obtained in the ΛCDM model. We show that the LVDP model is almost indistinguishable from the ΛCDM model up to the near future of our universe as far as the current observations are concerned, though their predictions differ tremendously into the far future.

Two-Frequency Jahn-Teller Systems in Circuit QED

We investigate the simulation of Jahn-Teller models with two non-degenerate vibrational modes using a circuit QED architecture. Typical Jahn-Teller systems are anisotropic and require at least a two-frequency description. The proposed simulator consists of two superconducting lumped-element resonators interacting with a common flux qubit in the ultrastrong coupling regime. We translate the circuit QED model of the system to a two-frequency Jahn-Teller Hamiltonian and calculate its energy eigenvalues and the emission spectrum of the cavities. It is shown that the system can be systematically tuned to an effective single mode Hamiltonian from the two-mode model by varying the coupling strength between the resonators. The flexibility in manipulating the parameters of the circuit QED simulator permits isolating the effective single frequency and pure two-frequency effects in the spectral response of Jahn-Teller systems.
