Producing cluster states in charge qubits and flux qubits

We propose a method to efficiently generate cluster states in charge qubits, both semiconducting and superconducting, as well as flux qubits. We show that highly-entangled cluster states can be realized by a `one-touch' entanglement operation by tuning gate bias voltages for charge qubits. We also investigate the robustness of these cluster states for non-uniform qubits, which are unavoidable in solid-state systems. We find that quantum computation based on cluster states is a promising approach for solid-state qubits.

The Effect of Local Structure and Non-uniformity on Decoherence-Free States of Charge Qubits

We analyze robustness of decoherence-free (DF) subspace in charge qubits when there are a local structure and non-uniformity that violate collective decoherence measurement condition. We solve master equations of up to four charge qubits and a detector as two serially coupled quantum point contacts (QPC) with an island structure. We show that robustness of DF states is strongly affected by local structure as well as by non-uniformities of qubits.

Robustness of Decoherence-Free States for Charge Qubits under Local Non-uniformity

We analyze the robustness of decoherence-free (DF) subspace and subsystem in charge qubits, when difference from the collective decoherence measurement condition is large in the long time period, which is applicable for solid-state qubits using as a quantum memory. We solve master equations of up to four charge qubits and a detector as a quantum point contact (QPC). We show that robustness of DF states is strongly affected by local non-uniformities. We also discuss the possible two-qubit logical states by exactly solving the master equations.

Measurement of two-qubit states by quantum point contacts

We solve the master equations of two charged qubits measured by two serially coupled quantum point contacts (QPCs). We describe two-qubit dynamics by comparing entangled states with product states, and show that the QPC current can be used for reading out results of quantum calculations and providing evidences of two-qubit entanglement. We also calculate the concurrence of the two qubits as a function of dephasing rate that originates from the measurement. We conclude that coupled charge qubits can be effectively detected by a QPC-based detector.

Measurement of Two-Qubit States by a Two-Island Single Electron Transistor

We solve the master equations of two charged qubits measured by a single-electron transistor (SET) consisted of two islands. We show that in the sequential tunneling regime the SET current can be used for reading out results of quantum calculations and providing evidences of two-qubit entanglement, especially when the interaction between the two qubits is weak.

One- and two-dimensional N-qubit systems in capacitively coupled quantum dots

Coulomb blockade effects in capacitively coupled quantum dots can be utilized for constructing an N-qubit system with antiferromagnetic Ising interactions. Starting from the tunneling Hamiltonian, we theoretically show that the Hamiltonian for a weakly coupled quantum-dot array is reduced to that for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Quantum operations are carried out by applying only electrical pulse sequences. Thus various error-correction methods developed in NMR spectroscopy and NMR quantum computers are applicable without using magnetic fields. A possible measurement scheme in an N-qubit system is quantitatively discussed.

Quantum gates by coupled asymmetric quantum dots and controlled-NOT-gate operation

A quantum computer based on an asymmetric coupled dot system has been proposed and shown to operate as the controlled-NOT-gate. The basic idea is (1) the electron is localized in one of the asymmetric coupled dots. (2)The electron transfer takes place from one dot to the other when the energy-levels of the coupled dots are set close. (3)The Coulomb interaction between the coupled dots mutually affects the energy levels of the other coupled dots. The decoherence time of the quantum computation and the measurement time are estimated. The proposed system can be realized by developing the technology of the single-electron memory using Si nanocrystals and the direct combination of the quantum circuit and the conventional circuit is possible.

The Effects of Resonant Tunneling on Magnetoresistance through a Q uantum Dot

The effect of resonant tunneling on magnetoresistance (MR) is studied theoretically in a double junction system. We have found that the ratio of the MR of the resonant peak current is reduced more than that of the single junction, whereas that of the valley current is enhanced depending on the change of the discrete energy-level under the change of magnetic field. We also found that the peak current-valley current (PV) ratio decreases when the junction conductance increases.
