Universal physics of the few-body system of two neutrons and one flavored meson

We investigate the $s$-wave three-body system of two neutrons and one flavored meson with total spin-isospin $J=0,I=3/2$. The meson-neutron scattering length can become infinitely large in an unphysical region of the quark mass when extrapolated from strangeness to charm in the so-called zero coupling limit. Using a low-energy cluster effective field theory, we demonstrate that the Efimov effect is manifest in the three-body system when the meson-neutron scattering length is extrapolated to the unitary limit of the two-body interaction. We thereby discuss the consequence of universal physics in the physical $K^{-}nn$ and $D^{0}nn$ systems.

Exotic Doubly Charmed Ds0*(2317)D and Ds1*(2460)D* Molecules

The $D_{s0}^*(2317) D$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460) D^*$ heavy meson systems can exchange a kaon that is emitted in S-wave owing to the opposite intrinsic parity of the $D_{s0}^*$($D_{s1}^*$) and $D$($D^*$) mesons. As a consequence of the mass difference of the $D_{s0}^*$($D_{s1}^*$) and $D$($D^*$) mesons, the range of the kaon exchange potential will be significantly longer than expected, corresponding to an effective mass of about $200\,{\rm MeV}$. The potential will be very strong: the strength of the interaction is proportional to $(m_{D_{s0}} - m_D)^2 / f_π^2$ and $(m_{D_{s1}} - m_{D^*})^2 / f_π^2$. This combination of range and strength almost guarantees the existence of $D_{s0}^*(2317) D$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460) D^*$ bound states with $J^P = 0^{-}$ and $J^P = 0^{-}, 2^{-}$ respectively. Concrete calculations indicate a binding energy of $5-15\,{\rm MeV}$ independently of $J^P$. The $D_{s0}^*(2317) D$ and $D_{s1}^*(2460) D^*$ molecules have manifestly exotic flavour quantum numbers: $C=2$, $S=1$ and $I=1/2$. We expect the existence of bottom counterparts composed of the $B B_{s0}$ and $B^* B_{s1}^*$ mesons, which will be more bound and have a richer spectrum that might include a shallow P-wave state and an excited S-wave state.

Theoretical study of the Lambda(1405) resonance in Xi_b^0 -> D^0 pi Sigma decay

We study the mechanism of the weak decay process of Xi_b^0 into D^0 with a meson-baryon pair. It is shown that the dominant component of the prompt weak decay produces the meson-baryon pair with the spectator strange quark being transferred to the baryon, so that the Kbar N channel is absent. Subsequent final state interaction then reflects the pi Sigma originated Lambda(1405) formation amplitude, which has been difficult to access in previous experimental studies. We predict the line shapes of the pi Sigma invariant mass distribution using a realistic chiral meson-baryon amplitude for the final state interaction. It is shown that the interference between the direct and the rescattering contributions can strongly distort the peak structure of the Lambda(1405) in the mass distribution. This indicates the necessity of a detailed investigation of the reaction mechanism in order to extract the Lambda(1405) property in the pi Sigma mass distribution.

Compositeness of hadron resonances in finite volume

We develop a theoretical framework to quantify the structure of unstable hadron resonances. With the help of the corresponding system in a finite volume, we define the compositeness of resonance states which can be interpreted as a probability. This framework is used to study the structure of the scalar mesons f_0(980) and a_0(980). In both mesons, the Kbar K component dominates about a half of the wave function. The method is also applied to the Lambda(1405) resonance. We argue that a single energy level in finite volume represents the two eigenstates in infinite volume. The KbarK N component of Lambda(1405), including contributions from both eigenstates, is found to be 58%, and the rest is composed of the pi Sigma and other channels.

Construction of a local barK N-pi Sigma-pi Lambda potential and composition of the Lambda(1405)

A Kbar N-pi Sigma-pi Lambda coupled-channel potential is constructed on the basis of chiral SU(3) dynamics. Several matching conditions are introduced to formulate an equivalent local potential that reproduces the coupled-channel scattering amplitudes resulting from chiral SU(3)_L times SU(3)_R meson-baryon effective field theory. In contrast to a previously constructed effective single-channel Kbar N potential, the explicit treatment of the pi Sigma channel yields a natural description of the low-mass pole as part of the two-pole structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance. The energy dependence of the potential can now be parametrized with a minimum of polynomial orders. To study the properties of the Lambda(1405) as a quantum-mechanical quasibound state, we derive the normalization condition of its wave function generated by the energy-dependent coupled-channel potential, using the Feshbach projection method. This framework provides an improved understanding of this system from the viewpoint of the compositeness of hadrons. With the properly normalized wave function, we demonstrate and confirm that the high-mass pole of the Lambda(1405) is dominated by the Kbar N component.

$N Ω$ interaction: meson exchanges, inelastic channels, and quasibound state

Based on a baryon-baryon interaction model with meson exchanges, we investigate the origin of the strong attraction in the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction, which was indicated by recent lattice QCD simulations. The long range part of the potential is constructed by the conventional mechanisms, the exchanges of the $η$ meson and of the correlated two mesons in the scalar-isoscalar channel, denoted by "$σ$" in the literature. The short range part is represented by the contact interaction. We find that the meson exchanges do not provide sufficient attraction. This means that most of the attraction is attributed to the short range contact interaction. We then evaluate the effect of the coupled channels to the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction. We find that, while the $D$-wave mixing of the $N Ω$ channel is negligible, the inelastic $ΛΞ$, $ΣΞ$, and $ΛΞ(1530)$ channels via the $K$ meson exchange give the attraction of the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ interaction to the same level with the elastic meson exchanges. Although the elimination of these channels induces the energy dependence of the single-channel $N Ω$ interaction, this effect is not significant. With the present model parameters fitted to reproduce the scattering length of the HAL QCD result of the nearly physical quark masses, we obtain the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ quasibound state with its eigenenergy $2611.3 - 0.7 i$ MeV, which corresponds to the binding energy $0.1$ MeV and width $1.5$ MeV for the decay to the $ΛΞ$ and $ΣΞ$ channels. From the analysis of the spatial structure and the compositeness, the quasibound state is shown to be the molecular state of $NΩ$. We also construct an equivalent local potential for the $N Ω( {}^{5}S_{2} )$ system which is useful for various applications.

Structure of hadron resonances with a nearby zero of the amplitude

We discuss the relation between the analytic structure of the scattering amplitude and the origin of an eigenstate represented by a pole of the amplitude. If the eigenstate is not dynamically generated by the interaction in the channel of interest, the residue of the pole vanishes in the zero coupling limit. Based on the topological nature of the phase of the scattering amplitude, we show that the pole must encounter with the Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson (CDD) zero in this limit. It is concluded that the dynamical component of the eigenstate is small if a CDD zero exists near the eigenstate pole. We show that the line shape of the resonance is distorted from the Breit-Wigner form as an observable consequence of the nearby CDD zero. Finally, studying the positions of poles and CDD zeros of the KbarN-piSigma amplitude, we discuss the origin of the eigenstates in the Lambda(1405) region.

Kaonic deuterium and low-energy antikaon-nucleon interaction

A new evaluation of the $1s$ level shift and width of kaonic deuterium is presented based on an accurate $\bar{K}NN$ three-body calculation, using as input a realistic antikaon-nucleon interaction constrained by the SIDDHARTA kaonic hydrogen data. The three-body Schrödinger equation is solved with a superposition of a large number of correlated Gaussian basis functions extending over distance scales up to several hundred fm. The resulting energy shift and width of the kaonic deuterium $1s$ level are $E\simeq 0.67$ keV and $Γ\simeq 1.02$ keV, with estimated uncertainties at the 10% level.

Constraining the $\bar{K}N$ interaction from the $1S$ level shift of kaonic deuterium

Motivated by the precise measurement of the $1S$ level shift of kaonic hydrogen, we perform accurate three-body calculations for the spectrum of kaonic deuterium using a realistic antikaon-nucleon ($KN$) interaction. In order to describe both short- and long-range behavior of the kaonic atomic states, we solve the three-body Schrödinger equation with a superposition of a large number of correlated Gaussian basis functions covering distances up to several hundreds of fm. Transition energies between $1S$, $2P$ and $2S$ states are determined with high precision. The complex energy shift of the $1S$ level of kaonic deuterium is found to be $670-i508$ eV. The sensitivity of this level shift with respect to the isospin $I=1$ component of the $KN$ interaction is examined. It is pointed out that an experimental determination of the kaonic deuterium level shift within an uncertainty of 25\% will provide a constraint for the $I=1$ component of the $KN$ interaction significantly stronger than that from kaonic hydrogen.

Spectroscopy and production of doubly charmed tetraquarks

We discuss the production of the exotic doubly-charmed tetraquark mesons ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ from electron-positron collisions. ${\rm T}_{{\rm c}{\rm c}}({\rm c}{\rm c}\bar{\rm u}\bar{\rm d})$ is a compact exotic hadron whose binding energy is provided by the diquark correlations. We evaluate the production cross section in the electron-positron collisions using the nonrelativistic QCD framework, and investigate the difference of the production cross section for different color configurations in two charm quarks (antitriplet and sextet), where the mixing of different configurations is suppressed in the heavy quark limit. The total cross section is estimated by modeling the nonperturbative fragmentation process of the charm quark pair into the tetraquark by the wavefunction of the tetraquark and the probability of picking up the light quarks. We find that the internal color configurations are distinguishable by the qualitative features of the differential cross sections which are independent of the nonperturbative matrix elements.

Heavy Hadrons in Nuclear Matter

Current studies on heavy hadrons in nuclear medium are reviewed with a summary of the basic theoretical concepts of QCD, namely chiral symmetry, heavy quark spin symmetry, and the effective Lagrangian approach. The nuclear matter is an interesting place to study the properties of heavy hadrons from many different points of view. We emphasize the importance of the following topics: (i) charm/bottom hadron-nucleon interaction, (ii) structure of charm/bottom nuclei, and (iii) QCD vacuum properties and hadron modifications in nuclear medium. We pick up three different groups of heavy hadrons, quarkonia ($J/ψ$, $Υ$), heavy-light mesons ($D$/$\bar{D}$, $\bar{B}$/$B$) and heavy baryons ($Λ_{c}$, $Λ_{b}$). The modifications of those hadrons in nuclear matter provide us with important information to investigate the essential properties of heavy hadrons. We also give the discussions about the heavy hadrons, not only in nuclear matter with infinite volume, but also in atomic nuclei with finite baryon numbers, to serve future experiments.

Generalized weak-binding relations of compositeness in effective field theory

We study the compositeness of near-threshold states to investigate the internal structure of exotic hadron candidates. Within the framework of effective field theory, Weinberg's weak-binding relation is extended to more general cases by easing several preconditions. First, by evaluating the contribution from the decay channel, we obtain the generalized relation for unstable quasibound states. Next, we generalize the relation to include the nearby CDD (Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson) pole contribution with the help of the Pade approximant. The validity of the estimation with the generalized weak-binding relations is examined by numerical calculations. The method to systematically evaluate the error in the weak-binding relation is presented. Finally, by applying the extended relation to Lambda(1405), f0(980) and a0(980), we discuss their internal structure, in comparison with other approaches.

Two-body Wave Functions, Compositeness, And The Internal Structure Of Dynamically Generated Resonances

Recently, the compositeness, defined as the norm of a two-body wave function for bound and resonance states, has been investigated to discuss the internal structure of hadrons in terms of hadronic molecular components. From the studies of the compositeness, it has been clarified that the two-body wave function of a bound state can be extracted from the residue of the scattering amplitude at the bound state pole. Of special interest is that the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude is automatically normalized. In particular, while the compositeness is unity for energy-independent interactions, it deviates from unity for energy-dependent interactions, which can be interpreted as a missing-channel contribution. In this manuscript, we show the formulation of the two-body wave function from the scattering amplitude, evaluate the compositeness for several dynamically generated resonances such as $f_{0} (980)$, $Λ(1405)$, and $Ξ(1690)$, and investigate their internal structure in terms of the hadronic molecular components.

Theoretical study of the Xi(1620) and Xi(1690) resonances in Xi_c -> pi^+ MB decays

Nonleptonic weak decays of Xi_c into pi^+ and a meson (M)-baryon (B) final state, MB, are analyzed from the viewpoint of probing S=-2 baryon resonances, i.e. Xi(1620) and Xi(1690), of which spin-parity and other properties are not well known. We argue that the weak decay of Xi_c is dominated by a single quark-line diagram, preferred by the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa coefficient, color recombination factor, the diquark correlation, and the kinematical condition. The decay process has an advantage of being free from meson resonances in the pi^+M invariant mass distribution. The invariant mass distribution of the meson-baryon final state is calculated with three different chiral unitary approaches, assuming that the Xi(1620) and Xi(1690) resonances have J^P=1/2^-. It is found that a clear peak for the Xi(1690) is seen in the piXi and KbarLambda spectra. We also suggest that the ratios of the piXi, KbarLambda and KbarSigma final states are useful to distinguish whether the peak is originated from the Xi(1690) resonance or it is a KbarSigma threshold effect.

Exotic Hadrons from Heavy Ion Collisions

Heavy ion collisions (HIC) at high energies are excellent ways for producing heavy hadrons and composite particles. With upgraded detectors at RHIC and LHC, it has become possible to measure hadrons beyond their ground states. Therefore, HIC provide a new method for studying exotic hadrons that are either hadronic molecular states or compact multiquark systems. Because their structures are related to the fundamental properties of QCD, studying exotic hadrons is currently one of the most active areas of research in hadron physics. Experiments carried out at various accelerator facilities have indicated that some exotic hadrons may have already been produced. The present review is a summary of the current understanding of a selected set of exotic particle candidates that can be potentially measured in HIC. It also includes discussions on the production of exotic hadrons in HIC based on the coalescence and statistical models. A more detailed discussion leads to the conclusion that the yield of a hadron is typically an order of magnitude smaller when it is a compact multiquark state than that of an excited hadronic state with normal quark numbers and/or a molecular configuration. Attention is also given to some of the proposed heavy exotic hadrons that could be produced with sufficient abundance in HIC because of the significant numbers of charm and bottom quarks produced at RHIC and LHC, making it possible to study them in these experiments. Further included in the discussion are the general formalism for the coalescence model that involves resonance particles and its implication on the present estimated yield for resonance production. Finally, a review is given on recent studies to constrain the hadron-hadron interaction through correlation measurements in HIC and their implications on the interpretation and the possible existence of exotic states in hadronic interactions.

Compositeness Of Quasibound States from Effective Field Theory

The internal structure of exotic hadron candidates are studied from the viewpoint of the compositeness of near-threshold states. We focus on the Weinberg's weak-binding relation between the experimental observables and the compositeness of the state. First we extend the relation for quasibound states within the framework of the effective field theory. Next, considering the correction term, we develop a systematic method to estimate the uncertainty of compositeness in the weak-binding relation. Finally, applying the extended relation and the error evaluation method, we conclude that the structure of Lambda(1405) is dominated by the Kbar N component.

Few-body approach to structure of $\bar{K}$-nuclear quasi-bound states

Structure of light antikaon-nuclear quasi-bound states, which consist of an antikaon $(\bar{K}=K^-,~\bar{K}^0)$ and a few nucleons $(N=p,~n)$ such as $\bar{K}NN$, $\bar{K}NNN$, $\bar{K}NNNN$ and $\bar{K}NNNNNN$ systems, is studied with full three- to seven-body calculations. Employing a realistic $\bar{K}N$ potential based on the chiral SU(3) effective field theory with the SIDDHARTA constraint, we show that the central nucleon densities of these systems increases when the antikaon is injected, by about factor of two at maximum. The $\bar{K}NNNN$ system shows the largest central density, about 0.74 fm$^{-3}$ even with the phenomenological $\bar{K}N$ potential, which are not as high as those suggested in previous studies with approximate treatments of the few-body systems. We find the spin of the ground state of the $\bar{K}NNNNNN$ system depends on the strength of the $\bar{K}N$ attraction. Thus, the quantum number of the ground state can be another constraint on the $\bar{K}N$ interaction.

Quark mass dependence of H-dibaryon in $ΛΛ$ scattering

We study the quark mass dependence of the H-dibaryon in the strangeness $S=-2$ baryon-baryon scattering. A low-energy effective field theory is used to describe the coupled-channel scattering, in which the quark mass dependence is incorporated so as to reproduce the lattice QCD data by the HAL QCD collaboration in the SU(3) limit. We point out the existence of the Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson (CDD) pole in the $ΛΛ$ scattering amplitude below the threshold in the SU(3) limit, which may cause the Ramsauer-Townsend effect near the $NΞ$ threshold at the physical point. The H-dibaryon is unbound at the physical point, and a resonance appears just below the $NΞ$ threshold. As a consequence of the coupled-channel dynamics, the pole associated with the resonance is not continuously connected to the bound state in the SU(3) limit. Through the extrapolation in quark masses, we show that the unitary limit of the $ΛΛ$ scattering is achieved between the physical point and the SU(3) limit. We discuss the possible realization of the "H-matter" in the unphysical quark mass region.
