On the possibility of a measurement of the CP Majorana phase in the 0νββ-decay

In view of recent measurements of the mixing angle θ_{13} a possibility to determine the difference of two CP Majorana phases of the neutrino mixing matrix from the study of neutrinoless double-beta decay is investigated. We show that in the case of the inverted hierarchy of neutrino masses it might be possible if neutrinoless double-beta decay will be observed. The required experimental accuracies and uncertainty in the calculated nuclear matrix elements of the process are discussed.

Decay Widths of X(1835) as Nucleon-Antinucleon Bound State

Partial decay widths of various decay channels of the X(1835) are evaluated in the 3P0 quark model, assuming that the X(1835) is a nucleon-antinucleon bound state. It is found that the decays to rho+rho, omega+omega and pion+a0(1450) dominate over other channels, and that the product branching fractions of J/psi to pion+pion+eta and J/psi to pion+pion+eta' are in the same order. We suggest that the X(1835) may be searched in the pion+a0(1450) channel.

Strong CP violation and the neutron electric dipole form factor

We calculate the neutron electric dipole form factor induced by the CP violating theta-term of QCD, within a perturbative chiral quark model which includes pion and kaon clouds. On this basis we derive the neutron electric dipole moment and the electron-neutron Schiff moment. From the existing experimental upper limits on the neutron electric dipole moment we extract constraints on the theta-parameter and compare our results with other approaches.

Chiral Dynamics of Baryons in a Lorentz Covariant Quark Model

We develop a manifestly Lorentz covariant chiral quark model for the study of baryons as bound states of constituent quarks dressed by a cloud of pseudoscalar mesons. The approach is based on a non-linear chirally symmetric Lagrangian, which involves effective degrees of freedom - constituent quarks and the chiral (pseudoscalar meson) fields. In a first step, this Lagrangian can be used to perform a dressing of the constituent quarks by a cloud of light pseudoscalar mesons and other heavy states using the calculational technique of infrared dimensional regularization of loop diagrams. We calculate the dressed transition operators with a proper chiral expansion which are relevant for the interaction of quarks with external fields in the presence of a virtual meson cloud. In a second step, these dressed operators are used to calculate baryon matrix elements. Applications are worked out for the masses of the baryon octet, the meson-nucleon sigma terms, the magnetic moments of the baryon octet, the nucleon charge radii, the strong vector meson-nucleon couplings and the full momentum dependence of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon.

Magnetic moments of heavy baryons in the relativistic three-quark model

The magnetic moments of ground state single, double and triple heavy baryons containing charm or bottom quarks are calculated in a relativistic three-quark model, which, in the heavy quark limit, is consistent with Heavy Quark Effective Theory and Heavy Hadron Chiral Perturbation Theory. The internal quark structure of baryons is modeled by baryonic three-quark currents with a spin-flavor structure patterned according to standard covariant baryonic wave functions and currents used in QCD sum rule calculations.

Quark model description of quasi-elastic pion knockout from the proton at JLAB

The interference term between s- and t-pole contributions to the p(e,e' pi+)n cross section is evaluated on the basis of the constituent quark model. It is shown that the contribution of baryon s-poles can be modeled by a nonlocal extension of the Kroll-Rudermann contact term. This contribution is in a destructive interference with the pion t-pole that is essential to improve the description of recent JLab data at the invariant mass W=1.95 GeV. Some predictions are made for a new JLab measurement at higher values W=2.1-2.3 GeV and Q2 centered at 1.6 and 2.45 GeV2/c2.

Mass spectrum of the J^P=1/2^- and 3/2^- pentaquark antidecuplets in the perturbative chiral quark model

We study the recently discovered Theta^+ baryon in the context of the perturbative chiral quark model. The basic configuration of the Theta^+ is set up as a pentaquark bound state, where the single particle wave functions are the ground state solutions of a confining potential. We classify the resulting pentaquark multiplets as the J^P=1/2^- and 3/2^- flavor SU(3) antidecuplet. The full mass spectrum of the multiplets is determined by including meson and gluon cloud contributions inducing flavor SU(3) breaking. Mainly due to the semi-perturbative gluon effects the resulting 3/2^- antidecuplet is about 185 MeV heavier than the 1/2^- one. We assign the observed Theta^+ baryon as a member of the 1/2^- antidecuplet and discuss in particular the relation to the recent experimental signal for a Xi^{--} baryon.

The exclusive rare decays B -> K l(bar) l and B_c -> D(D*) l(bar) l in a relativistic quark model

We study the exclusive rare decay B -> K l(bar) l. We calculate the relevant form factors within a relativistic constituent quark model, for the first time without employing the impulse approximation. The calculated form factors are used to evaluate differential decay rates and polarization observables. We present results on the q2-dependence of a set of observables with and without long-distance contributions. A similar analysis is done for the exclusive rare decays B_c -> D (D*) l(bar) l with special emphasis on the cascade decay B_c -> D* (-> D pi) l(bar) l. We derive a four-fold angular decay distribution for this process in terms of helicity amplitudes including lepton mass effects. The four-fold angular decay distribution allows to define a number of physical observables which are amenable to measurement. We compare our results with the results of other studies.

Scalar meson mediated nuclear mu-e conversion

We study the nuclear mu-e conversion in the general framework of the effective Lagrangian approach without referring to any specific realization of the physics beyond the standard model (SM) responsible for lepton flavor violation (LFV). We analyze the role of scalar meson exchange between the lepton and nucleon currents and show its relevance for the coherent channel of mu-e conversion. We show that this mechanism introduces modifications in the predicted mu-e conversion rates in comparison with the conventional direct nucleon mechanism, based on the contact type interactions of the nucleon currents with the LFV leptonic current. We derive from the experimental data lower limits on the mass scales of the generic LFV lepton-quark contact terms and demonstrate that they are more stringent than the similar limits existing in the literature.

Scalar nonet quarkonia and the scalar glueball: mixing and decays in an effective chiral approach

We study the strong and electromagnetic decay properties of scalar mesons above 1 GeV within a chiral approach. The scalar-isoscalar states are treated as mixed states of quarkonia and glueball configurations. A fit to the experimental mass and decay rates listed by the Particle Data group is performed to extract phenomenological constraints on the nature of the scalar resonances and to the issue of the glueball decays. A comparison to other experimental results and to other theoretical approaches in the scalar meson sector is discussed.

Nucleon polarizabilities in the perturbative chiral quark model

The nucleon polarizabilities alpha(E) and beta(M) are studied in the context of the perturbative chiral quark model. We demonstrate that meson cloud effects are sufficient to explain the electric polarizability of nucleon. Contributions of excite quark states to the paramagnetic polarizability are dominant and cancel the diamagnetic polarizability arising from the chiral field. The obtained results are compared to data and other theoretical predictions.

Magnetic moments of S-shell pentaquarks in the constituent quark model

We discuss the magnetic moments of the recently discovered exotic baryons Theta(+) and Xi(--) and their multiplet partners in the framework of a naive additive quark model. These baryons are set up as pentaquark states where four quarks and a single antiquark are located in their ground state orbit. The pentaquark states are classified as members of the flavor SU(3) octet and antidecuplet with spin-parity J^P = (1/2)^- and (3/2)^-, where we determine the magnetic moments of these pentaquark states.

Electron-Positron Annihilation into Hadron-Antihadron Pairs

The reactions of electron-positron to nucleon-antinucleon pairs are studied in a non-perturbative quark model. The work suggests that the two-step process, in which the primary quark-antiquark pair forms first a vector meson which in turn decays into a hadron pair, is dominant over the one-step process in which the primary quark-antiquark pair is directly dressed by additional quark-antiquark pairs to form a hadron pair. To reproduce the experimental data of the reactions of electron-positron to proton-antiproton and electron-positron to neutron-antineutron a D-wave omega-like vector meson with a mass of around 2 GeV has to be introduced.

Effective Lagrangian approach to nuclear mu-e conversion and the role of vector mesons

We study nuclear mu-e conversion in the general framework of an effective Lagrangian approach without referring to any specific realization of the physics beyond the standard model (SM) responsible for lepton flavor violation (LFV). We examine the impact of a specific hadronization prescription on the analysis of new physics in nuclear mu-e conversion and stress the importance of vector meson exchange between lepton and nucleon currents. A new issue of this mechanism is the presence of the strange quark vector current contribution induced by the phi meson. This allows us to extract new limits on the LFV lepton-quark effective couplings from the existing experimental data.

Chiral symmetry restoration in strange hadronic matter

The phase transition of chiral symmetry restoration in strange hadronic matter is studied in the chiral SU(3) quark mean field model. When the baryon density is larger than a critical density $ρ_c$, the minimal energy density of the system occurs at the point where the effective masses of nucleon, $Λ$ or $Ξ$ drop to zero. The physical quantities change discontinuously at this density and the system will be in the phase of chiral symmetry restoration. A rich phase structure of strange hadronic matter with different strangeness fraction $f_s$ is obtained.
