Self-Consistent Pushing and Cranking Corrections to the Meson Fields of the Chiral Quark-Loop Soliton

We study translational and spin-isospin symmetry restoration for the two-flavor chiral quark-loop soliton. Instead of a static soliton at rest we consider a boosted and rotating hedgehog soliton. Corrected classical meson fields are obtained by minimizing a corrected energy functional which has been derived by semi-classical methods ('variation after projection'). We evaluate corrected meson fields in the region 300 MeV \le M \le 600 MeV of constituent quark masses M and compare them with the uncorrected fields. We study the effect of the corrections on various expectation values of nuclear observables such as the root-mean square radius, the axial-vector coupling constant, magnetic moments and the delta-nucleon mass splitting.

Baryons as non-topological chiral solitons

The present review gives a survey of recent developments and applications of the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with $N_f=2$ and $N_f=3$ quark flavors for the structure of baryons. The model is an effective chiral quark theory which incorporates the SU(N$_f$)$_L\otimes$SU(N$_f$)$_R\otimes$U(1)$_V$ approximate symmetry of Quantum chromodynamics. The approach describes the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and dynamical quark mass generation. Mesons appear as quark-antiquark excitations and baryons arise as non-topological solitons with three valence quarks and a polarized Dirac sea. For the evaluation of the baryon properties the present review concentrates on the non-linear Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with quark and Goldstone degrees of freedom which is identical to the Chiral quark soliton model obtained from the instanton liquid model of the QCD vacuum. In this non-linear model, a wide variety of observables of baryons of the octet and decuplet is considered. These include, in particular, electromagnetic, axial, pseudoscalar and pion nucleon form factors and the related static properties like magnetic moments, radii and coupling constants of the nucleon as well as the mass splittings and electromagnetic form factors of hyperons. Predictions are given for the strange form factors, the scalar form factor and the tensor charge of the nucleon.

The Convergence Radius of the Chiral Expansion in the Dyson-Schwinger Approach

We determine the convergence radius $m_{conv}$ for the expansion in the current quark mass using the Dyson-Schwinger (DS) equation of QCD in the rainbow approximation. Within a Gaussian form for the gluon propagator $D_{μν} ({\bf p}) \sim δ_{μν} χ^2 e^{- {{p^2} \over Δ}}$ we find that $m_{conv}$ increases with decreasing width $Δ$ and increasing strength $χ^2$. For those values of $χ^2$ and $Δ$, which provide the best known description of low energy hadronic phenomena, $m_{conv}$ lies around $2 Λ_{QCD}$, which is big enough, that the chiral expansion in the strange sector converges. Our analysis also explains the rather low value of $m_{conv} \approx 50 \dots 80 \ {\text MeV}$ in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, which as itself can be regarded as a special case of the rainbow DS models, where the gluon propagator is a constant in momentum space.

Pi- Eta Mixing from QCD Sum Rules

The $q^2$ dependence of the $π$-$η$ mixing amplitude is examined with the use of QCD sum rules. The linear slope of the mixing function $θ(q^2)$ is found to be much smaller than that for $ρ$-$ω$ mixing. Thus the mixing amplitude is approximately the same in the space-like region as in the time-like one, and one may neglect the $q^2$ dependence of the mixing. A comparison between a hadron-meson, an effective chiral model, and the QCD sum rules approaches is made.

Baryons in Effective Chiral Quark Models with Polarized Dirac Sea

We give a comprehensive review of concepts and numerical calculations for SU(2) and SU(3) baryonic systems which are considered as many body systems composed of three quarks coupled to a polarized Dirac sea by a Nambu--Jona-Lasinio like interaction. The general formalism as well as the construction and numerical solution of non-topological mean field solitons are exhibited. Systems with good spin/flavour/isospin/momentum quantum numbers are obtained by using the SU(2)/SU(3)-cranking and the pushing approach. The article contains also recent results for various extensions of the model, e.g. vector and axialvector couplings or the inclusion of scale invariance. Furthermore the relationship of this approach to topological models (Skyrme type) as well as to (valence-)quark-meson models (Gell-Mann--Levi chiral sigma model) is explained. On Size and Shape of the Average Meson Fields in the Semibosonized Nambu & Jona-Lasinio Model

We consider a two-flavor Nambu \& Jona-Lasinio model in Hartree approximation involving scalar-isoscalar and pseudoscalar-isovector quark-quark interactions. Average meson fields are defined by minimizing the effective Euklidean action. The fermionic part of the action, which contains the full Dirac sea, is regularized within Schwinger's proper-time scheme. The meson fields are restricted to the chiral circle and to hedgehog configurations. The only parameter of the model is the constituent quark mass $M$ which simultaneously controls the regularization. We evaluate meson and quark fields self-consistently in dependence on the constituent quark mass. It is shown that the self-consistent fields do practically not depend on the constituent quark mass. This allows us to define a properly parameterized reference field which for physically relevant constituent masses can be used as a good approximation to the exactly calculated one. The reference field is chosen to have correct behaviour for small and large radii. To test the agreement between self-consistent and reference fields we calculate several observables like nucleon energy, mean square radius, axial-vector constant and delta-nucleon mass splitting in dependence on the constituent quark mass. The agreement is found to be very well. Figures available on request.

The Off Shell $ρ$-$ω$ Mixing in the QCD Sum Rules

The $q^2$ dependence of the $ρ-ω$ mixing amplitude is analyzed with the use of the QCD sum rules and the dispersion relation. Going off shell the mixing decreases, changes sign at $q^2 \simeq 0.4 m_ρ^2 > 0$ and is negative in the space like region. Implications of this result to the isospin breaking part of the nuclear force are discussed.
