Measurement of the branching fraction and search for CP violation in $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S\,K^0_S\,π^+π^-$ decays at Belle

We measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S\,K^0_S\,π^+π^-$ and search for $CP$ violation via a measurement of the $CP$ asymmetry $A_{\rm CP}$ as well as the $T$-odd triple-product asymmetry $a^T_{\rm CP}$. We use 922 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded by the Belle experiment, which ran at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fraction is measured relative to the Cabibbo-favored normalization channel $D^0\rightarrow K^0_S\,π^+π^-$; the result is $\mathcal{B}(D^0\rightarrow K^0_S\,K^0_S\,π^+π^-) = [4.79 \pm 0.08\,({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10\,({\rm syst}) \pm 0.31\,({\rm norm})]\times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is from uncertainty in the normalization channel. We also measure $A_{\rm CP} = [-2.51\,\pm 1.44\,({\rm stat})\,^{+0.11}_{-0.10}\,({\rm syst})]\%$, and $a^T_{\rm CP} = [-1.95\,\pm 1.42\,({\rm stat})\,^{+0.14}_{-0.12}\,({\rm syst})]\%$. These results show no evidence of CP violation.

Measurement of two-photon decay width of $χ_{c2}(1P)$ in $ γγ\rightarrow χ_{c2}(1P) \rightarrow J/ψγ$ at Belle

We report the measurement of the two-photon decay width of $χ_{c2}(1P)$ in two-photon processes at the Belle experiment. We analyze the process $ γγ\rightarrow χ_{c2}(1P) \rightarrow J/ψγ$, $J/ψ\rightarrow \ell^{+} \ell^{-}$ $(\ell = e \ {\rm or} \ μ)$ using a data sample of 971 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider. In this analysis, the product of the two-photon decay width of $χ_{c2}(1P)$ and the branching fraction is determined to be $Γ_{γγ}(χ_{c2}(1P)) \mathcal{B}( χ_{c2}(1P) \rightarrow J/ψ\, γ)\mathcal{B}( J/ψ\rightarrow \ell^+\ell^- ) = {\rm 14.8}$ $\pm$ ${\rm 0.3}({\rm stat.})$ $\pm$ ${\rm 0.7}({\rm syst.})$ eV, which corresponds to $ Γ_{γγ}(χ_{c2}(1P)) $ = 653 $\pm$ 13(stat.) $\pm$ 31(syst.) $\pm$ 17(B.R.) eV, where the third uncertainty is from $\mathcal{B}( χ_{c2}(1P) \rightarrow J/ψ\, γ)$ and $\mathcal{B}( J/ψ\rightarrow \ell^+\ell^- )$.

Study of $e^{+}e^{-}\toηϕ$ via Initial State Radiation at Belle

Using $980~fb^{-1}$ of data collected on and around the $Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3,4,5)$ resonances with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider, we measure the cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\to ηϕ$ from threshold to $3.95~{\rm GeV}/c^{2}$ via initial-state radiation. From a multi-parameter fit assuming $ϕ(2170)$ exists in the $ηϕ$ final state according to previous measurement by BESIII, the resonant parameters of $ϕ(1680)$ are determined to be $m_{ϕ(1680)} = (1683 \pm 7 \pm 9)~{\rm MeV}/c^{2}$ (statistical and systematic errors, respectively), $Γ_{ϕ(1680)} = (149 \pm 12 \pm 13)~{\rm MeV}$ and, depending on the possible presence of interfering resonances, $Γ^{e^{+}e^{-}}_{ϕ(1680)}\cdot {\cal B}[ϕ(1680)\toηϕ] = (122 \pm 6 \pm 13)~{\rm eV}$, $(219 \pm 15 \pm 18)~{\rm eV}$, $(163 \pm 11 \pm 13)~{\rm eV}$ or $(203 \pm 12 \pm 18)~{\rm eV}$. The branching fraction of $ϕ(1680)\toηϕ$ decay is determined to be approximately 20%. Additionally, the branching fraction for $J/ψ\toηϕ$ is measured to be $(7.1\pm 1.0 \pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$. However, there is no significant observed $ϕ(2170)$ signal in the $ηϕ$ final states in this analysis, and correspondingly the upper limit for $Γ^{e^{+}e^{-}}_{ϕ(2170)}\cdot {\cal B}(ϕ(2170)\toηϕ)$ is determined to be either $0.17~{\rm eV}$ (for two fits), or $18.6~{\rm eV}$ (remaining two fits), at 90% confidence level.

Observation of a Threshold Cusp at the $Λη$ Threshold in the $pK^{-}$ Mass Spectrum with $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow p K^{-} π^{+}$ Decays

We observe a narrow peaking structure in the $pK^{-}$ invariant-mass spectrum near the $Λη$ threshold. The peak is clearly seen in 1.5 million events of $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow p K^{-} π^{+}$ decay using the $980~{\rm fb^{-1}}$ data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We try two approaches to explain this structure: as a new resonance and as a cusp at the $Λη$ threshold. The best fit is obtained with a coherent sum of a Flatt$\rm{\acute{e}}$ function and a constant background amplitude with the $χ^2/{\rm n.d.f}=257/243$ ($p = 0.25$), while the fits to Breit-Wigner functions are unfavored by more than 7$σ$. The best fit explains the structure as a cusp at the $Λη$ threshold, and the obtained parameters are consistent with the known properties of $Λ(1670)$. The observation gives the first identification of a threshold cusp in hadrons from the spectrum shape.

Search for $D^+ \to K^- K^0_s π^+ π^+ π^0$ at Belle

We search for the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^+ \to K^- K^0_s π^+ π^+ π^0$ using the full data set of 988 fb$^{-1}$ recorded by the Belle experiment at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure the branching fraction for this decay to be $\left({6.4^{+3.9}_{-3.8}}\right)\times10^{-5}$ with an upper limit at 95% credibility of $1.4\times10^{-4}$. We also measure the sum of the branching fractions for $D^+ \to \bar{K}^* ηπ^+$ and $D^+ \to \bar{K}^* ωπ^+$ to be $\left({6.0^{+6.3}_{-5.8}}\right) \times {10^{-5}}$ with an upper limit at 95% credibility of $1.8\times10^{-4}$.

Measurement of the Branching Fraction of the Decay $\boldsymbol{B^{+}\toπ^{+}π^{-}\ell^{+}ν_\ell}$ in Fully Reconstructed Events at Belle

We present an analysis of the exclusive $B^{+}\toπ^{+}π^{-}\ell^{+}ν_{\ell}$ decay, where $\ell$ represents an electron or a muon, with the assumption of charge-conjugation symmetry and lepton universality. The analysis uses the full $Υ(4S)$ data sample collected by the Belle detector, corresponding to 711 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. We select the events by fully reconstructing one $B$ meson in hadronic decay modes, subsequently determining the properties of the other $B$ meson. We extract the signal yields using a binned maximum-likelihood fit to the missing-mass squared distribution in bins of the invariant mass of the two pions or the momentum transfer squared. We measure a total branching fraction of ${{\cal B}(B^{+}\to π^{+}π^{-}\ell^{+}ν_{\ell})= [22.7 ^{+1.9}_{-1.6} (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 3.5(\mathrm{syst}) ]\times 10^{-5}}$, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. This result is the first reported measurement of this decay.

Measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ with a semileptonic tagging method

The experimental results on the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon, show a long-standing discrepancy with the Standard Model predictions, and might hint to a violation of lepton flavor universality. We report a new simultaneous measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$, based on a data sample containing $772 \times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. In this analysis the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*) = 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$, $1.1$ and $0.8$ standard deviations for $\mathcal{R}(D)$, $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ and their combination, respectively. This work constitutes the most precise measurements of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^*)$ performed to date as well as the first result for $\mathcal{R}(D)$ based on a semileptonic tagging method.

Experimental determination of the isospin of $Λ_c(2765)^+/Σ_c(2765)^+$

We report an experimental determination of the isospin of $Λ_c(2765)^+/Σ_c(2765)^+$ using 980 fb$^{-1}$ data in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation around $\sqrt{s} = 10.6$ GeV collected by the Belle detector located at the KEKB collider. The isospin partners are searched for in the $Σ_c(2455)^{++/0} π^{0}$ channels, and no evidence was obtained. Thus the isospin is determined to be zero, and the particle is established to be a $Λ_c$.

Measurement of $\mathcal{R}(D)$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})$ with a semileptonic tagging method

We report a measurement of the ratios of branching fractions $\mathcal{R}(D) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast}) = {\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* τ^- \barν_τ)/{\cal B}(\bar{B} \to D^* \ell^- \barν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ denotes an electron or a muon. The results are based on a data sample containing $772\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events recorded at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The analysis utilizes a method where the tag-side $B$ meson is reconstructed in a semileptonic decay mode, and the signal-side $τ$ is reconstructed in a purely leptonic decay. The measured values are $\mathcal{R}(D)= 0.307 \pm 0.037 \pm 0.016$ and $\mathcal{R}(D^{\ast})= 0.283 \pm 0.018 \pm 0.014$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. These results are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions within $0.2$ and $1.1$ standard deviations, respectively, while their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions within $1.2$ standard deviations.

Measurements of branching fraction and direct $C\!P$ asymmetry in $B^{\pm}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}$ and a search for $B^{\pm}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}π^{\pm}$

We study charmless hadronic decays of charged $B$ mesons to the final states $K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}$ and $K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}π^{\pm}$ using a $711 fb^{-1}$ data sample that contains $772\times 10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs, and was collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. For $B^{\pm}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}K^{\pm}$, the measured branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $[10.42\pm0.43(stat)\pm 0.22(syst)]\times10^{-6}$ and [$+1.6\pm3.9(stat)\pm 0.9(syst)$]%, respectively. In the absence of a statistically significant signal for $B^{\pm}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{0}_{S}π^{\pm}$, we obtain a 90% confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction as $8.7 \times10^{-7}$.

Measurement of eta_c(1S), eta_c(2S) and non-resonant eta' pi+ pi- production via two-photon collisions

We report the measurement of gamma gamma to eta_c(1S), eta_c(2S) to eta' pi+ pi- with eta' decays to gamma rho and eta pi+ pi- using 941 fb^{-1} of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. The eta_c(1S) mass and width are measured to be M = [2984.6\pm0.7 (stat.)\pm2.2 (syst.)] MeV/c^{2} and Γ= [30.8^{+2.3}_{-2.2}~(stat.) \pm 2.5~(syst.)] MeV, respectively. First observation of eta_c(2S) to eta' pi+ pi- with a significance of 5.5sigma including systematic error is obtained, and the eta_c(2S) mass is measured to be M = [3635.1\pm3.7~(stat.)\pm2.9~(syst.)] MeV/c^{2}. The products of the two-photon decay width and branching fraction (B) of decays to eta'pi+ pi- are determined to be Γ_{gamma gamma}B = [65.4\pm2.6~(stat.)\pm6.9~(syst.)] eV for eta_c(1S) and [5.6^{+1.2}_{-1.1}~(stat.)\pm1.1~(syst.)] eV for eta_c(2S). A new decay mode for the eta_c(1S) to eta'f_0(2080) with f_0(2080) to pi+ pi- is observed with a statistical significance of 20sigma. The f_0(2080) mass and width are determined to be M = [2083^{+63}_{-66}~(stat.)\pm 32~(syst.)] MeV/c^{2} and Γ= [178^{+60}_{-178}~(stat.) \pm 55~(syst.)] MeV. The results are based on a $711 {fb}^{-1}$ data sample that contains $772 \times 10^6$ $B \bar{B}$ pairs, and was collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. For $B^{\pm} \to K^{0}_{S} K^{0}_{S} K^{\pm}$ decays, the measured branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $[10.64\pm0.49(stat)\pm 0.44(syst)]\times10^{-6}$ and [$-0.6\pm3.9(stat)\pm 3.4(syst)$] %, respectively. In the absence of a statistically significant signal for $B^{\pm}\to K^{0}_{S} K^{0}_{S} π^{\pm}$, we set the 90 % confidence-level upper limit on its branching fraction at $1.14 \times 10^{-6}$.

Measurement of the branching fraction and $CP$ asymmetry in $B^{0} \to π^{0}π^{0}$ decays, and an improved constraint on $ϕ_{2}$

We measure the branching fraction and $CP$ violation asymmetry in the decay $B^{0}\to π^{0}π^{0}$, using a data sample of $752\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. The obtained branching fraction and direct $CP$ asymmetry are $ \mathcal{B}(B\to π^{0}π^{0}) = [1.31 \pm 0.19~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.19~ \text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6}$ and $ A_{CP} = +0.14 \pm 0.36~ \text{(stat.)} \pm 0.10~ \text{(syst.)}, $ respectively. The signal significance, including the systematic uncertainty, is 6.4 standard deviations. We combine these results with Belle's earlier measurements of $B^{0}\to π^{+} π^{-}$ and $B^{\pm} \to π^{\pm} π^{0}$ to exclude the $CP$-violating parameter $ϕ_{2}$ from the range $15.5^{\circ} < ϕ_{2} < 75.0^{\circ}$ at 95\% confidence level.

Search for $\boldsymbol{B\to hν\barν}$ decays with semileptonic tagging at Belle

We present the results of a search for the rare decays $B\to hν\overlineν$, where $h$ stands for $K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:π^+,\:π^0,\:ρ^+$ and $ρ^{0}$. The results are obtained with $772\times10^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. We reconstruct one $B$ meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single $h$ meson but nothing else on the signal side. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions. The limits set on the $B\to K^0_{\mathrm{S}}ν\overlineν$, $B^0\to K^{*0}ν\overlineν$, $B\to π^+ν\overlineν$, $B^0\toπ^0ν\overlineν$, $B^+\toρ^+ν\overlineν$, and $B^0\toρ^0ν\overlineν$ channels are the world's most stringent.

Measurement of the tau Michel parameters $\barη$ and $ξκ$ in the radiative leptonic decay $τ^- \rightarrow \ell^- ν_τ \barν_{\ell}γ$

We present a measurement of the Michel parameters of the $τ$ lepton, $\barη$ and $ξκ$, in the radiative leptonic decay $τ^- \rightarrow \ell^- ν_τ \barν_{\ell} γ$ using 711~f$\mathrm{b}^{-1}$ of collision data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The Michel parameters are measured in an unbinned maximum likelihood fit to the kinematic distribution of $e^+e^-\rightarrowτ^+τ^-\rightarrow (π^+π^0 \barν_τ)(\ell^-ν_τ\barν_{\ell}γ)$ $(\ell=e$ or $μ)$. The measured values of the Michel parameters are $\barη = -1.3 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.8$ and $ξκ= 0.5 \pm 0.4 \pm 0.2$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. This is the first measurement of these parameters. These results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions within their uncertainties and constrain the coupling constants of the generalized weak interaction.

Precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ with $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decays with hadronic tagging at Belle

The precise determination of the CKM matrix element $\left| V_{cb}\right|$ is important for carrying out tests of the flavour sector of the Standard Model. In this article we present a preliminary analysis of the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay mode and its charge conjugate, selected in events that contain a fully reconstructed $B$-meson, using 772 million $e^+ \, e^- \to Υ(4S) \to B \bar B$ events recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. Unfolded differential decay rates of four kinematic variables fully describing the $\bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell$ decay in the $B$-meson rest frame are presented. We measure the total branching fraction $\mathcal{B}( \bar B^0 \to D^{*\,+} \, \ell^- \, \bar ν_\ell ) = \left(4.95 \pm 0.11 \pm 0.22 \right) \times 10^{-2}$, where the errors are statistical and systematic respectively. The value of $\left|V_{cb} \right|$ is determined to be $\left( 37.4 \pm 1.3 \right) \times 10^{-3}$. Both results are in good agreement with current world averages.

Observation of Transverse $Λ/\barΛ$ Hyperon Polarization in $e^+e^-$ Annihilation at Belle

We report the first observation of the polarization of $Λ/\barΛ$ hyperons transverse to its production plane in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. We observe a significant polarization that rises with the fractional energy carried by the hyperon as well as its transverse momentum. To define the production plane, we use the direction of the hyperon momentum together with either the thrust axis in the event or the momentum vector of a hadron in the opposite hemisphere. Furthermore, we investigate the contributions to the hyperon polarization from the feed-down from $Σ^0/\barΣ^0$ and $Λ_c^{\pm}$ decays. This measurement uses a dataset of 800.4fb$^{-1}$ collected by the Belle experiment at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV.
