On refactorization problems and rational Lax matrices of quadrirational Yang-Baxter maps

We present rational Lax representations for one-component parametric quadrirational Yang-Baxter maps in both the abelian and non-abelian settings. We show that from the Lax matrices of a general class of non-abelian involutive Yang-Baxter maps ($\mathcal{K}$-list), by considering the symmetries of the $\mathcal{K}$-list maps, we obtain compatible refactorization problems with rational Lax matrices for other classes of non-abelian involutive Yang-Baxter maps ($Λ$, $\mathcal{H}$ and $\mathcal{F}$ lists). In the abelian setting, this procedure generates rational Lax representations for the abelian Yang-Baxter maps of the $F$ and $H$ lists. Additionally, we provide examples of non-involutive (abelian and non-abelian) multi-parametric Yang-Baxter maps, along with their Lax representations, which lie outside the preceding lists.

Discrete integrable systems associated with relativistic collisions

We study vector quadrirational Yang-Baxter maps representing the momentum-energy transformation of two particles after elastic relativistic collisions. The collision maps admit Lax representations compatible with an r-matrix Poisson structure and correspond to integrable systems of quadrilateral lattice equations.

Deformations of cluster mutations and invariant presymplectic forms

We consider deformations of sequences of cluster mutations in finite type cluster algebras, which destroy the Laurent property but preserve the presymplectic structure defined by the exchange matrix. The simplest example is the Lyness 5-cycle, arising from the cluster algebra of type $A_2$: this deforms to the Lyness family of integrable symplectic maps in the plane. For types $A_3$ and $A_4$ we find suitable conditions such that the deformation produces a two-parameter family of Liouville integrable maps (in dimensions two and four, respectively). We also perform Laurentification for these maps, by lifting them to a higher-dimensional space of tau functions with a cluster algebra structure, where the Laurent property is restored. More general types of deformed mutations associated with affine Dynkin quivers are shown to correspond to four-dimensional symplectic maps arising as reductions of the discrete sine-Gordon equation.

Discrete Hirota reductions associated with the lattice KdV equation

We study the integrability of a family of birational maps obtained as reductions of the discrete Hirota equation, which are related to travelling wave solutions of the lattice KdV equation. In particular, for reductions corresponding to waves moving with rational speed N/M on the lattice, where N,M are coprime integers, we prove the Liouville integrability of the maps when N + M is odd, and prove various properties of the general case. There are two main ingredients to our construction: the cluster algebra associated with each of the Hirota bilinear equations, which provides invariant (pre)symplectic and Poisson structures; and the connection of the monodromy matrices of the dressing chain with those of the KdV travelling wave reductions.

Cluster algebras and discrete integrability

Cluster algebras are a class of commutative algebras whose generators are defined by a recursive process called mutation. We give a brief introduction to cluster algebras, and explain how discrete integrable systems can appear in the context of cluster mutation. In particular, we give examples of birational maps that are integrable in the Liouville sense and arise from cluster algebras with periodicity, as well as examples of discrete Painlevé equations that are derived from Y-systems.

Relativistic Collisions as Yang-Baxter maps

We prove that one-dimensional elastic relativistic collisions satisfy the set-theoretical Yang-Baxter equation. The corresponding collision maps are symplectic and admit a Lax representation. Furthermore, they can be considered as reductions of a higher dimensional integrable Yang-Baxter map on an invariant manifold. In this framework, we study the integrability of transfer maps that represent particular periodic sequences of collisions.

On Reductions of the Hirota-Miwa Equation

The Hirota-Miwa equation (also known as the discrete KP equation, or the octahedron recurrence) is a bilinear partial difference equation in three independent variables. It is integrable in the sense that it arises as the compatibility condition of a linear system (Lax pair). The Hirota-Miwa equation has infinitely many reductions of plane wave type (including a quadratic exponential gauge transformation), defined by a triple of integers or half-integers, which produce bilinear ordinary difference equations of Somos/Gale-Robinson type. Here it is explained how to obtain Lax pairs and presymplectic structures for these reductions, in order to demonstrate Liouville integrability of some associated maps, certain of which are related to reductions of discrete Toda and discrete KdV equations.

A noncommutative discrete potential KdV lift

In this paper, we construct a Grassmann extension of a Yang-Baxter map which first appeared in [16] and can be considered as a lift of the discrete potential Korteweg-de Vries (dpKdV) equation. This noncommutative extension satisfies the Yang-Baxter equation, and it admits a $3 \times 3$ Lax matrix. Moreover, we show that it can be squeezed down to a system of lattice equations which possesses a Lax representation and whose bosonic limit is the dpKdV equation. Finally, we consider commutative analogues of the constructed Yang-Baxter map and its associated quad-graph system, and we discuss their integrability.

3D compatible ternary systems and Yang-Baxter maps

According to Shibukawa, ternary systems defined on quasigroups and satisfying certain conditions provide a way of constructing dynamical Yang-Baxter maps. After noticing that these conditions can be interpreted as 3-dimensional compatibility of equations on quad-graphs, we investigate when the associated dynamical Yang-Baxter maps are in fact parametric Yang-Baxter maps. In some cases these maps can be obtained as reductions of higher dimensional maps through compatible constraints. Conversely, parametric YB maps on quasigroups with an invariance condition give rise to 3-dimensional compatible systems. The application of this method on spaces with certain quasigroup structures provides new examples of multi-parametric YB maps and 3-dimensional compatible systems.

Poisson Yang-Baxter maps with binomial Lax matrices

A construction of multidimensional parametric Yang-Baxter maps is presented. The corresponding Lax matrices are the symplectic leaves of first degree matrix polynomials equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. These maps are symplectic with respect to the reduced symplectic structure on these leaves and provide examples of integrable mappings. An interesting family of quadrirational symplectic YB maps on $\mathbb{C}^4 \times \mathbb{C}^4$ with $3\times 3$ Lax matrices is also presented.

Entwining Yang-Baxter maps and integrable lattices

Yang-Baxter (YB) map systems (or set-theoretic analoga of entwining YB structures) are presented. They admit zero curvature representations with spectral parameter depended Lax triples L1, L2, L3 derived from symplectic leaves of 2 x 2 binomial matrices equipped with the Sklyanin bracket. A unique factorization condition of the Lax triple implies a 3-dimensional compatibility property of these maps. In case L1 = L2 = L3 this property yields the se--theoretic quantum Yang-Baxter equation, i.e. the YB map property. By considering periodic 'staircase' initial value problems on quadrilateral lattices, these maps give rise to multidimensional integrable mappings which preserve the spectrum of the corresponding monodromy matrix.

Yang Baxter maps with first degree polynomial 2 by 2 Lax matrices

A family of nonparametric Yang Baxter (YB) maps is constructed by refactorization of the product of two 2 by 2 matrix polynomials of first degree. These maps are Poisson with respect to the Sklyanin bracket. For each Casimir function a parametric Poisson YB map is generated by reduction on the corresponding level set. By considering a complete set of Casimir functions symplectic multiparametric YB maps are derived. These maps are quadrirational with explicit formulae in terms of matrix operations. Their Lax matrices are, by construction, 2 by 2 first degree polynomial in the spectral parameter and are classified by Jordan normal form of the leading term. Nonquadrirational parametric YB maps constructed as limits of the quadrirational ones are connected to known integrable systems on quad graphs.
