Ransomware and Artificial Intelligence: A Comprehensive Systematic Review of Reviews

This study provides a comprehensive synthesis of Artificial Intelligence (AI), especially Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL), in ransomware defense. Using a "review of reviews" methodology based on PRISMA, this paper gathers insights on how AI is transforming ransomware detection, prevention, and mitigation strategies during the past five years (2020-2024). The findings highlight the effectiveness of hybrid models that combine multiple analysis techniques such as code inspection (static analysis) and behavior monitoring during execution (dynamic analysis). The study also explores anomaly detection and early warning mechanisms before encryption to address the increasing complexity of ransomware. In addition, it examines key challenges in ransomware defense, including techniques designed to deceive AI-driven detection systems and the lack of strong and diverse datasets. The results highlight the role of AI in early detection and real-time response systems, improving scalability and resilience. Using a systematic review-of-reviews approach, this study consolidates insights from multiple review articles, identifies effective AI models, and bridges theory with practice to support collaboration among academia, industry, and policymakers. Future research directions and practical recommendations for cybersecurity practitioners are also discussed. Finally, this paper proposes a roadmap for advancing AI-driven countermeasures to protect critical systems and infrastructures against evolving ransomware threats.

Comparative Simulation of Phishing Attacks on a Critical Information Infrastructure Organization: An Empirical Study

Nowadays, cybersecurity is crucial. Therefore, cybersecurity awareness should be a concern for businesses, particularly critical infrastructure organizations. The results of this study, using simulated phishing attacks, indicate that in the first attempt, workers of a Thai railway firm received a phony email purporting to inform recipients of a special deal from a reputable retailer of IT equipment. The findings showed that 10.9% of the 735 workers fell for the scam. This demonstrates a good level of awareness regarding cyber dangers. The workers who were duped by the initial attack received awareness training. Next, a second attempt was carried out. This time, the strategy was for the workers to change their passwords through an email notification from the fake IT staff. According to the findings, 1.4% of the workers fell victim to both attacks (different email content), and a further 8.0% of the workers who did not fall victim to the first attack were deceived. Furthermore, after the statistical analysis, it was confirmed that there is a difference in the relationship between the workers and the two phishing attack simulations using different content. As a result, this study has demonstrated that different types of content can affect levels of awareness.

Exploring 5G Network Performance: Comparison of Inner and Outer City Areas in Phetchaburi Province

The advancement of 5G technology has transformed various aspects of life, including tourism, by enabling people worldwide to communicate and travel with ease. Traveling to different places and countries is now seamless, removing language barriers and facilitating easy access to information on culture, accommodation, and tourist attractions. Additionally, access to applications that facilitate quicker language translation further enhances the travel experience. Phetchaburi Province holds significant importance as a global tourist destination. UNESCO has recognized Phetchaburi as a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), comprising one of 49 cities worldwide acknowledged for their creative city initiatives. Phetchaburi Province stands as the 5th city in Thailand to receive this designation. This research investigated 5G performance in Phetchaburi Province, both the inner and outer city, focusing on download and upload speeds. The results indicate that there is widespread 5G coverage throughout Phetchaburi Province, including urban and rural areas, especially for the 5G network with a good performance provided by one of the mobile network operators. In addition, the statistical analysis reveals differences in 5G performances between the inner city and the outer city of Phetchaburi Province, particularly for download speeds (p-value < 0.001).

Comparison of 5G Performance Post-Merger between Two Network Operators Using Field Tests in Urban Areas

In late Q1/2023, DTAC and TRUE officially completed their merger. Consequently, this study was initiated to ascertain whether their respective 5G networks had been seamlessly integrated several months following the merger. The investigation involved conducting drive tests along two predefined routes within the urban areas of Bangkok, employing the G-NetTrack Pro tool for testing and data collection. Additionally, stationary tests were conducted in two crowded places using an application called Speedtest. Subsequently, an array of Quality of Service (QoS) metrics, including Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ), Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Download (DL), Upload (UL) speeds, and latency, were meticulously analyzed and presented. The findings of this study unveiled that, despite the successful completion of the DTAC and TRUE merger from a business standpoint, the technical integration of their respective 5G networks had not been finalized, although there were no significant differences between DTAC and TRUE for DL (p-value = 0.542) and UL (p-value = 0.090). Notably, significant differences were found between DTAC and TRUE for four metrics, including RSRP, RSRQ, SNR, and latency (p-values < 0.05). Remarkably, roaming functionalities were still operational between the two networks.

QoE modeling for Voice over IP: Simplified E-model Enhancement Utilizing the Subjective MOS Prediction Model

This research proposes an enhanced measurement method for VoIP quality assessment which provides an improvement to accuracy and reliability. To improve the objective measurement tool called the simplified E-model for the selected codec, G.729, it has been enhanced by utilizing a subjective MOS prediction model based on native Thai users, who use the Thai-tonal language. Then, the different results from the simplified E-model and subjective MOS prediction model were used to create the Bias function, before adding to the simplified E-model. Finally, it has been found that the outputs from the enhanced simplified E-model for the G.729 codec shows better accuracy when compared to the original simplified E-model, specially, after the enhanced model has been evaluated with 4 test sets. The major contribution of this enhancement is that errors are reduced by 58.87 % when compared to the generic simplified E-model. That means the enhanced simplified E-model as proposed in this study can provide improvement beyond the original simplified one significantly.

5G Quality of Service in Bangkok and Metropolitan Areas: Revisiting BTS Skytrain Station Areas

This article compares two of the leading mobile network operators in Thailand's telecom market in terms of the service quality of Thailand's 5G networks. The following three factors, download speed, upload speed and latency, which are frequently considered to be indicators of the quality of Internet networks, were examined. The researchers employed the test results to determine an average grade of service that was reached by comparing newly collected data to data that had previously been examined utilizing the same format and application in the middle of May 2021. The typical upload speed dropped from 62.6 Mbps in 2021 to 52.0 Mbps in 2023, while the latency increased from 14.9 to 23.3 milliseconds on average. It was established that the results delivered considerably enhanced quality values despite the fact that the test region in this study only comprised BTS stations. Furthermore, this was the case despite the fact that the test area in this study only encompassed a small percentage of the total population.

Analyzing Bank Account Information of Nominees and Scammers

Nowadays, people heavily rely on the Internet for various activities, such as e-commerce (e.g., online shopping) and online banking. While online transactions are practical, they also provide scammers with a new way to exploit unsuspecting individuals. This study and investigation utilized data from ChaladOhn, a website designed and developed by academics and policemen. The data covered the period from February 2022 to January 2023. After analyzing and investigating, the results reveal that the total losses amounted to over 3,100 million Thai Baht, with each case incurring losses of less than 10 million. Furthermore, the investigation discovered the involvement of the top two banks in the market, KB*** and BB*, in the fraud. These banks accounted for: 1) 28.2% and 16.0% of the total number of scam accounts, 2) 25.6% and 20.5% of the total transactions, and 3) 35.7% and 14.9% of the total losses from the victims as recorded in the database, respectively. Considering the anticipated deterioration of this issue, it is crucial to inform regulators and relevant organizations about the investigation's findings. This will enable the development, suggestion, and implementation of an efficient solution to address the rapidly increasing number of online scam cases.

A Field Trial Study of 5G Quality of Service: A Case of BTS Skytrain Station

This article aims to present the results from a study of the quality of service of 5G networks provided by two major 5G network providers, using a field trial approach within 60 BTS SkyTrain stations. The results obtained from the tests using 4 applications on a 5G mobile phone showed that the performance of 5G networks provided by both operators are different. When calculated for the average values, it was found both operators had the download speed of 240.3 Mbps and the upload speed of 87.3 Mbps. Besides these values, it was also found the average latency, the average jitter and the average loss from both major operators that are 19 ms, 8 ms and 0.299 % respectively. Comparing the average values derived from the results of this study with the results of another study in the Asia-Pacific region that was undertaken during the similar period of time, it was found that the Bangkok download speed is ranked in the 4th place, whereas the upload speed is ranked in the 1st place. However, it is noted that this study only covered the area of BTS SkyTrain stations. In the future, the study should be extended to cover other parts of the Bangkok metropolitan area, and other provinces. In addition, the study should be conducted by a credible organization.
