Reference-Grounded Data Curation for Instruction-Following Thai-English Machine Translation

Instruction-following machine translation (IF-MT) requires respecting prompt-level rules on terminology, formatting, and register. Rule compliance typically trades off against translation quality, a tension that general-purpose IF data augmentation methods do not address. We propose Reference-Grounded Data Curation, a two-phase pipeline that extracts every supervised constraint from a reference translation that already satisfies it, ensuring feasibility by construction. Phase 1 applies Instruction-Following Difficulty (IFD) scoring to retain the hardest-but-learnable instances from an English-Thai parallel pool. Phase 2 extracts constraints from each reference target and keeps only generations satisfying every constraint, yielding the 1.97M-record Grounded dataset. We fine-tune open-weight bases on Grounded to produce ChindaMT, a Thai-English translation family at 4B, 2B, and 0.8B parameters. Under length-controlled pairwise judging, ChindaMT outperforms or matches every same-size baseline at every tier on both plain translation and under explicit rules, reaching up to a 68.4% win rate against the strongest baseline. The recipe transfers cleanly across Qwen generations. We release model weights, the Grounded dataset, and evaluation suites.

SiamGPT: Quality-First Fine-Tuning for Stable Thai Text Generation

Open-weights large language models remain difficult to deploy for Thai due to unstable generation under complex instructions, despite strong English performance. To mitigate these limitations, We present SiamGPT-32B, an open-weights model based on Qwen3-32B, fine-tuned with a Quality-First strategy emphasizing curated supervision over data scale. The fine-tuning pipeline combines high-complexity English instruction data with a Thai-adapted AutoIF framework for instruction and linguistic constraints. Using supervised fine-tuning only, without continual pretraining or corpus expansion, SiamGPT-32B improves instruction adherence, multi-turn robustness, and linguistic stability. Evaluations on the SEA-HELM benchmark show that SiamGPT-32B achieves the strongest overall performance among similar-scale open-weights Thai models, with consistent gains in instruction following, multi-turn dialogue, and natural language understanding.

OpenThaiGPT 1.6 and R1: Thai-Centric Open Source and Reasoning Large Language Models

We present OpenThaiGPT 1.6 and R1 (OTG-1.6 and OTG-R1), Thai-centric Large Language Models (LLMs) developed through distinct methodologies to enhance generalization and reasoning capabilities. OTG-1.6 employs Task Arithmetic model merging for broad generalization, while OTG-R1 integrates multi-stage training with the Less-Is-More Reasoning Hypothesis (LIMO) for advanced reasoning. Benchmark evaluations demonstrate superior performance across Thai language tasks, achieving competitive results against larger-scale open-source Thai LLMs. This paper details the proposed models, training processes, benchmarks, and results, highlighting improvements over previous models and establishing new performance standards for Thai-centric LLMs.
