Minimal blow-up solutions to the mass-critical inhomogeneous NLS equation

We consider the mass-critical focusing nonlinear Schrodinger equation in the presence of an external potential, when the nonlinearity is inhomogeneous. We show that if the inhomogeneous factor in front of the nonlinearity is sufficiently flat at a critical point, then there exists a solution which blows up in finite time with the maximal (unstable) rate at this point. In the case where the critical point is a maximum, this solution has minimal mass among the blow-up solutions. As a corollary, we also obtain unstable blow-up solutions of the mass-critical Schrodinger equation on some surfaces. The proof is based on properties of the linearized operator around the ground state, and on a full use of the invariances of the equation with an homogeneous nonlinearity and no potential, via time-dependent modulations.

Maximizers for the Strichartz norm for small solutions of mass-critical NLS

Consider the mass-critical nonlinear Schrödinger equations in both focusing and defocusing cases for initial data in $L^2$ in space dimension N. By Strichartz inequality, solutions to the corresponding linear problem belong to a global $L^p$ space in the time and space variables, where $p=2+4/N$. In 1D and 2D, the best constant for the Strichartz inequality was computed by D.~Foschi who has also shown that the maximizers are the solutions with Gaussian initial data. Solutions to the nonlinear problem with small initial data in $L^2$ are globally defined and belong to the same global $L^p$ space. In this work we show that the maximum of the $L^p$ norm is attained for a given small mass. In addition, in 1D and 2D, we show that the maximizer is unique and obtain a precise estimate of the maximum. In order to prove this we show that the maximum for the linear problem in 1D and 2D is nondegenerated.

Universality of blow-up profile for small radial type II blow-up solutions of energy-critical wave equation

Consider the energy critical focusing wave equation on the Euclidian space. A blow-up type II solution of this equation is a solution which has finite time of existence but stays bounded in the energy space. The aim of this work is to exhibit universal properties of such solutions. Let W be the unique radial positive stationary solution of the equation. Our main result is that in dimension 3, under an appropriate smallness assumption, any type II blow-up radial solution is essentially the sum of a rescaled W concentrating at the origin and a small remainder which is continuous with respect to the time variable in the energy space. This is coherent with the solutions constructed by Krieger, Schlag and Tataru. One ingredient of our proof is that the unique radial solution which is compact up to scaling is equal to W up to symmetries.

Degenerated codimension 1 crossings and resolvent estimates

In this article, we analyze the propagation of Wigner measures of a family of solutions to a system of semi-classical pseudodifferential equations presenting eigenvalues crossings on hypersurfaces. We prove the propagation along classical trajectories under a geometric condition which is satisfied for example as soon as the Hamiltonian vector fields are transverse or tangent at finite order to the crossing set. We derive resolvent estimates for semi-classical Schrödinger operator with matrix-valued potential under a geometric condition of the same type on the crossing set and we analyze examples of degenerate situations where one can prove transfers between the modes.

Scattering norm estimate near the threshold for energy-critical focusing semilinear wave equation

We consider the energy-critical semilinear focusing wave equation in dimension $N=3,4,5$. An explicit solution $W$ of this equation is known. By the work of C. Kenig and F. Merle, any solution of initial condition $(u_0,u_1)$ such that $E(u_0,u_1)<E(W,0)$ and $\|\nabla u_0\|_{L^2}<\|\nabla W\|_{L^2}$ is defined globally and has finite $L^{\frac{2(N+1)}{N-2}}_{t,x}$-norm, which implies that it scatters. In this note, we show that the supremum of the $L^{\frac{2(N+1)}{N-2}}_{t,x}$-norm taken on all scattering solutions at a certain level of energy below $E(W,0)$ blows-up logarithmically as this level approaches the critical value $E(W,0)$. We also give a similar result in the case of the radial energy-critical focusing semilinear Schrödinger equation. The proofs rely on the compactness argument of C. Kenig and F. Merle, on a classification result, due to the authors, at the energy level $E(W,0)$, and on the analysis of the linearized equation around $W$.

Threshold solutions for the focusing 3d cubic Schroedinger equation

We study the focusing 3d cubic NLS equation with H^1 data at the mass-energy threshold, namely, when M[u_0]E[u_0] = M[Q]E[Q]. In earlier works of Holmer-Roudenko and Duyckaerts-Holmer-Roudenko, the behavior of solutions (i.e., scattering and blow up in finite time) is classified when M[u_0]E[u_0] < M[Q]E[Q]. In this paper, we first exhibit 3 special solutions: e^{it}Q and Q^+, Q^-; here Q is the ground state, and Q^+, Q^- exponentially approach the ground state solution in the positive time direction, meanwhile Q^+ having finite time blow up and Q^- scattering in the negative time direction. Secondly, we classify solutions at this threshold and obtain that up to \dot{H}^{1/2} symmetries, they behave exactly as the above three special solutions, or scatter and blow up in both time directions as the solutions below the mass-energy threshold. These results are obtained by studying the spectral properties of the linearized Schroedinger operator in this mass-supercritical case, establishing relevant modulational stability and careful analysis of the exponentially decaying solutions to the linearized equation.

On scattering for NLS: from Euclidean to hyperbolic space

We prove asymptotic completeness in the energy space for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation posed on hyperbolic space in the radial case, in space dimension at least 4, and for any energy-subcritical, defocusing, power nonlinearity. The proof is based on simple Morawetz estimates and weighted Strichartz estimates. We investigate the same question on spaces which kind of interpolate between Euclidean space and hyperbolic space, showing that the family of short range nonlinearities becomes larger and larger as the space approaches the hyperbolic space. Finally, we describe the large time behavior of radial solutions to the free dynamics.

Scattering for the non-radial 3D cubic nonlinear Schroedinger equation

Scattering of radial $H^1$ solutions to the 3D focusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation below a mass-energy threshold $M[u]E[u] < M[Q]E[Q]$ and satisfying an initial mass-gradient bound $\|u_0\|_{L^2} \|\nabla u_0 \|_{L^2} < \|Q\|_{L^2} \|\nabla Q\|_{L^2}$, where $Q$ is the ground state, was established in Holmer-Roudenko (2007). In this note, we extend the result in Holmer-Roudenko (2007) to non-radial $H^1$ data. For this, we prove a non-radial profile decomposition involving a spatial translation parameter. Then, in the spirit of Kenig-Merle (2006), we control via momentum conservation the rate of divergence of the spatial translation parameter and by a convexity argument based on a local virial identity deduce scattering. An application to the defocusing case is also mentioned.

Dynamic of threshold solutions for energy-critical NLS

We consider the radial energy-critical non-linear focusing Schrödinger equation in dimension N=3,4,5. An explicit stationnary solution, W, of this equation is known. In a previous work by C. Carlos and F. Merle, the energy E(W) has been shown to be a threshold for the dynamical behavior of solutions of the equation. In the present article, we study the dynamics at the critical level E(u)=E(W) and classify the corresponding solutions. This gives in particular a dynamical characterization of W.

Dynamic of threshold solutions for energy-critical wave equation

We consider the energy-critical non-linear focusing wave equation in dimension N=3,4,5. An explicit stationnary solution, $W$, of this equation is known. The energy E(W,0) has been shown by C. Kenig and F. Merle to be a threshold for the dynamical behavior of solutions of the equation. In the present article we study the dynamics at the critical level E(u_0,u_1)=E(W,0) and classify the corresponding solutions. We show in particular the existence of two special solutions, connecting different behaviors for negative and positive times. Our results are analoguous to our previous work on radial Schrödinger equation, but without any radial assumption on the data. We also refine the understanding of the dynamical behavior of the special solutions.

Weighted Strichartz estimates for radial Schrödinger equation on noncompact manifolds

We prove global weighted Strichartz estimates for radial solutions of linear Schrödinger equation on a class of rotationally symmetric noncompact manifolds, generalizing the known results on hyperbolic and Damek-Ricci spaces. This yields classical Strichartz estimates with a larger class of exponents than in the Euclidian case and improvements for the scattering theory. The manifolds, whose volume element grows polynomially or exponentially at infinity, are characterized essentially by negativity conditions on the curvature, which shows in particular that the rich algebraic structure of the Hyperbolic and Damek-Ricci spaces is not the cause of the improved dispersive properties of the equation. The proofs are based on known dispersive results for the equation with potential on the Euclidean space, and on a new one, valid for C^1 potentials decaying like 1/r^2 at infinity.

Stabilization of the Linear System of Magnetoelasticity

We give a necessary and sufficient condition, of geometric type, for the uniform decay of energy of solutions of the linear system of magnetoelasticity in a bounded domain with smooth boundary. A Dirichlet-type boundary condition is assumed. When the geometrical condition is not fulfilled, we show polynomial decay of the energy, for smooth initial conditions. Our strategy is to use micro-local defect measures to show suitable observability inequalities on high-frequency solutions of the Lame system.

A Singular Critical Potential For The Schrodinger operator

We construct a potential $V$ on $\RR^d$, smooth away from one pole, and a sequence of quasi-modes for the operator $-Δ+V$, which concentrate on this pole. No smoothing effect, Strichartz estimates nor dispersive inequalities hold for the corresponding Schrodinger equation.
