Renormalization group flow of $O(N)^3$-invariant general sextic tensor model

We compute the beta functions for the $O(N)^3$-invariant general sextic tensor model up to cubic order in the coupling constant, and at leading order in the $1/N$ expansion. Our method is a direct, explicit one, in the sense that we identify the appropriate Feynman graphs, we compute their amplitudes which then allows us to obtain the $\beta$ functions of the model. We perform these computation considering both a long-range and a short-range propagator, within the dimensional regularization framework. We find three fixed points in the short-range case and a line of fixed points, parameterized by the wheel interaction, in the long-range case. This line of fixed points is identical to the one found in the case of the $U(N)^3$-invariant model. Our result proves that the additional $O(N)^3$-invariant interactions do not modify the long-range fixed point structure of the model.

Large-$N$ limit of $O(N)^3$-invariant general sextic tensor model

We study a sextic tensor model where the interaction terms are given by all $O(N)^3$-invariant bubbles. The class of invariants studied here is thus a larger one that the class of the $U(N)^3$-invariant sextic tensor model. We implement the large $N$ limit mechanism for this general model and we explicitly identify the dominant graphs in the $1/N$ expansion. This class of dominant graphs contains tadpole graphs, melonic graphs but also new types of tensor graphs. Our analysis adapts the tensorial intermediate field method, previously applied only to the prismatic interaction, to all connected sextic interactions except the wheel interaction, which we treat separately using a cycle analysis.

Constructive Matrix Theory for Higher Order Interaction II: Hermitian and Real Symmetric Cases

This paper provides the constructive loop vertex expansion for stable matrix models with (single trace) interactions of arbitrarily high even order in the Hermitian and real symmetric cases. It relies on a new and simpler method which can also be applied in the previously treated complex case. We prove analyticity in the coupling constant of the free energy for such models in a domain uniform in the size of the matrix

Constructive Matrix Theory for Higher Order Interaction

This paper provides an extension of the constructive loop vertex expansion to stable matrix models with interactions of arbitrarily high order. We introduce a new representation for such models, then perform a forest expansion on this representation. It allows to prove that the perturbation series of the free energy for such models is analytic in a domain uniform in the size N of the matrix. Our method applies to complex (rectangular) matrices. The extension to Hermitian square matrices, which was claimed wrongly in the first arXiv version of this paper, is postponed to a future study.

Hopf algebras and Tutte polynomials

By considering Tutte polynomials of Hopf algebras, we show how a Tutte polynomial can be canonically associated with combinatorial objects that have some notions of deletion and contraction. We show that several graph polynomials from the literature arise from this framework. These polynomials include the classical Tutte polynomial of graphs and matroids, Las Vergnas' Tutte polynomial of the morphism of matroids and his Tutte polynomial for embedded graphs, Bollobas and Riordan's ribbon graph polynomial, the Krushkal polynomial, and the Penrose polynomial. We show that our Tutte polynomials of Hopf algebras share common properties with the classical Tutte polynomial, including deletion-contraction definitions, universality properties, convolution formulas, and duality relations. New results for graph polynomials from the literature are then obtained as examples of the general results. Our results offer a framework for the study of the Tutte polynomial and its analogues in other settings, offering the means to determine the properties and connections between a wide class of polynomial invariants.

A renormalisation group approach to the universality of Wigner's semicircle law for random matrices with dependent entries

We show that if the non Gaussian part of the cumulants of a random matrix model obey some scaling bounds in the size of the matrix, then Wigner's semicircle law holds. This result is derived using the replica technique and an analogue of the renormalisation group equation for the replica effective action. This is a transcript of a talk given at "5th Winter Workshop on Non-Perturbative Quantum Field Theory" Sophia-Antipolis, March 2017 and is based on former work in collaboration with A. Tanasa and D.L. Vu, see arXiv:1609.01873 .

A Tutte polynomial for maps

We follow the example of Tutte in his construction of the dichromate of a graph (that is, the Tutte polynomial) as a unification of the chromatic polynomial and the flow polynomial in order to construct a new polynomial invariant of maps (graphs embedded in orientable surfaces). We call this the surface Tutte polynomial. The surface Tutte polynomial of a map contains the Las Vergnas polynomial, Bollobás-Riordan polynomial and Kruskhal polynomial as specializations. By construction, the surface Tutte polynomial includes among its evaluations the number of local tensions and local flows taking values in any given finite group. Other evaluations include the number of quasi-forests.

Using Grassmann calculus in combinatorics: Lindström-Gessel-Viennot lemma and Schur functions

Grassmann (or anti-commuting) variables are extensively used in theoretical physics. In this paper we use Grassmann variable calculus to give new proofs of celebrated combinatorial identities such as the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot formula for graphs with cycles and the Jacobi-Trudi identity. Moreover, we define a one parameter extension of Schur polynomials that obey a natural convolution identity.

Exact Renormalisation Group Equations and Loop Equations for Tensor Models

In this paper, we review some general formulations of exact renormalisation group equations and loop equations for tensor models and tensorial group field theories. We illustrate the use of these equations in the derivation of the leading order expectation values of observables in tensor models. Furthermore, we use the exact renormalisation group equations to establish a suitable scaling dimension for interactions in Abelian tensorial group field theories with a closure constraint. We also present analogues of the loop equations for tensor models.

Analyticity results for the cumulants in a random matrix model

The generating function of the cumulants in random matrix models, as well as the cumulants themselves, can be expanded as asymptotic (divergent) series indexed by maps. While at fixed genus the sums over maps converge, the sums over genera do not. In this paper we obtain alternative expansions both for the generating function and for the cumulants that cure this problem. We provide explicit and convergent expansions for the cumulants, for the remainders of their perturbative expansion (in the size of the maps) and for the remainders of their topological expansion (in the genus of the maps). We show that any cumulant is an analytic function inside a cardioid domain in the complex plane and we prove that any cumulant is Borel summable at the origin.

Combinatorial Hopf algebraic description of the multiscale renormalization in quantum field theory

We define in this paper several Hopf algebras describing the combinatorics of the so-called multi-scale renormalization in quantum field theory. After a brief recall of the main mathematical features of multi-scale renormalization, we define assigned graphs, that are graphs with appropriate decorations for the multi-scale framework. We then define Hopf algebras on these assigned graphs and on the Gallavotti-Nicolò trees, particular class of trees encoding the supplementary informations of the assigned graphs. Several morphisms between these combinatorial Hopf algebras and the Connes-Kreimer algebra are given. Finally, scale dependent couplings are analyzed via this combinatorial algebraic setting.

Path Integral Representation of Lorentzian Spinfoam Model, Asymptotics, and Simplicial Geometries

A new path integral representation of Lorentzian Engle-Pereira-Rovelli-Livine (EPRL) spinfoam model is derived by employing the theory of unitary representation of SL(2,$\mathbb{C}$). The path integral representation is taken as a starting point of semiclassical analysis. The relation between the spinfoam model and classical simplicial geometry is studied via the large spin asymptotic expansion of the spinfoam amplitude with all spins uniformaly large. More precisely in the large spin regime, there is an equivalence between the spinfoam critical configuration (with certain nondegeneracy assumption) and a classical Lorentzian simplicial geometry. Such an equivalence relation allows us to classify the spinfoam critical configurations by their geometrical interpretations, via two types of solution-generating maps. The equivalence between spinfoam critical configuration and simplical geometry also allows us to define the notion of globally oriented and time-oriented spinfoam critical configuration. It is shown that only at the globally oriented and time-oriented spinfoam critical configuration, the leading order contribution of spinfoam large spin asymptotics gives precisely an exponential of Lorentzian Regge action of General Relativity. At all other (unphysical) critical configurations, spinfoam large spin asymptotics modifies the Regge action at the leading order approximation.

Recipe theorem for the Tutte polynomial for matroids, renormalization group-like approach

Using a quantum field theory renormalization group-like differential equation, we give a new proof of the recipe theorem for the Tutte polynomial for matroids. The solution of such an equation is in fact given by some appropriate characters of the Hopf algebra of isomorphic classes of matroids, characters which are then related to the Tutte polynomial for matroids. This Hopf algebraic approach also allows to prove, in a new way, a matroid Tutte polynomial convolution formula appearing in W. Kook {\it et. al., J. Comb. Series} {\bf B 76} (1999).

Schwinger-Dyson Equations in Group Field Theories of Quantum Gravity

In this talk, we elaborate on the operation of graph contraction introduced by Gurau in his study of the Schwinger-Dyson equations. After a brief review of colored tensor models, we identify the Lie algebra appearing in the Schwinger-Dyson equations as a Lie algebra associated to a Hopf algebra of the Connes-Kreimer type. Then, we show how this operation also leads to an analogue of the Wilsonian flow for the effective action. Finally, we sketch how this formalism may be adapted to group field theories.

Group field theories

Group field theories are particular quantum field theories defined on D copies of a group which reproduce spin foam amplitudes on a space-time of dimension D. In these lecture notes, we present the general construction of group field theories, merging ideas from tensor models and loop quantum gravity. This lecture is organized as follows. In the first section, we present basic aspects of quantum field theory and matrix models. The second section is devoted to general aspects of tensor models and group field theory and in the last section we examine properties of the group field formulation of BF theory and the EPRL model. We conclude with a few possible research topics, like the construction of a continuum limit based on the double scaling limit or the relation to loop quantum gravity through Schwinger-Dyson equations

Cosmological constant in spinfoam cosmology

We consider a simple modification of the amplitude defining the dynamics of loop quantum gravity, corresponding to the introduction of the cosmological constant, and possibly related to the SL(2,C)q extension of the theory recently considered by Fairbairn-Meusburger and Han. We show that in the context of spinfoam cosmology, this modification yields the de Sitter cosmological solution.

Quantum Corrections in the Group Field Theory Formulation of the EPRL/FK Models

We investigate the group field theory formulation of the EPRL/FK spin foam models. These models aim at a dynamical, i.e. non-topological formulation of 4D quantum gravity. We introduce a saddle point method for general group field theory amplitudes and compare it with existing results, in particular for a second order correction to the EPRL/FK propagator.
