Conformal Completion of the Standard Model with a Fourth Generation

We study dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking with a fourth generation within the $Z_n$ orbifolded $AdS_5\otimes S^5$ framework. A realistic $Z_7$ example is discussed. The initial theory reduces dynamically, due to the induced condensates, to a four-family trinification near a TeV-scale conformal fixed point where the gauge hierarchy problem does not exist. We predict new gauge bosons and bifundamental fermions and scalars accessible by the LHC.

New invariants for entangled states

We propose new algebraic invariants that distinguish and classify entangled states. Considering qubits as well as higher spin systems, we obtained complete entanglement classifications for cases that were either unsolved or only conjectured in the literature.

An algebraic classification of entangled states

We provide a classification of entangled states that uses new discrete entanglement invariants. The invariants are defined by algebraic properties of linear maps associated with the states. We prove a theorem on a correspondence between the invariants and sets of equivalent classes of entangled states. The new method works for an arbitrary finite number of finite-dimensional state subspaces. As an application of the method, we considered a large selection of cases of three subspaces of various dimensions. We also obtain an entanglement classification of four qubits, where we find 27 fundamental sets of classes.

An explicit SU(12) family and flavor unification model with natural fermion masses and mixings

We present an SU(12) unification model with three light chiral families, avoiding any external flavor symmetries. The hierarchy of quark and lepton masses and mixings is explained by higher dimensional Yukawa interactions involving Higgs bosons that contain SU(5) singlet fields with VEVs about 50 times smaller than the SU(12) unification scale. The presented model has been analyzed in detail and found to be in very good agreement with the observed quark and lepton masses and mixings.

Techni-Chiral-Color

Chiral Color is extended by incorporating Technicolor, which induces dynamical breaking of the Electroweak symmetry as well as Chiral Color to Quantum Chromodynamics. Gauge anomalies are cancelled by introducing two generations of technifermions, and the fourth generation of quarks and leptons is required. Each technifermion generation is coupled to only two Standard Model generations by the Yukawa interaction. Various phenomenological implications are explained.

Natural fermion mass hierarchy and mixings in family unification

We present an SU(9) model of family unification with three light chiral families, and a natural hierarchy of charged fermion masses and mixings. The existence of singlet right handed neutrions with masses about two orders of magnitude smaller than the GUT scale, as needed to understand the light neutrinos masses via the see-saw mechanism, is compelling in our model.

A Classification and Analysis of Higgs-flavor Models

A classification is given of Higgs-flavor models. In these models, there are several Higgs doublets in an irreducible multiplet R_{Phi} of a non-abelian symmetry G_{Phi}, under which the quarks and leptons do not transform (thus giving minimal flavor-changing for the fermions). It is found that different G_{Phi} and R_{Phi} lead to very distinctive spectra of the extra Higgs doublets, including different numbers of "sequential Higgs" and of "inert Higgs" that could play the role of dark matter, different mass relations, and different patterns of SU(2)_L-breaking splittings within the Higgs doublets.

Quartification with T' Flavor

In the simplest (non-quiver) unified theories, fermion families are often treated sequentially and a flavor symmetry may act similarly. As an alternative with non-sequential flavor symmetry, we consider a model based on the group (T'*Z_2)_global * [SU(3)^4]_local which combines the predictions of T' flavor symmetry with the features of a unified quiver gauge theory. The model accommodates the relationships between mixing angles separately for neutrinos, and for quarks, which have been previously predicted with T'. This quiver unification theory makes predictions of several additional gauge bosons and bifundamental fermions at the TeV scale.

An A_5 Model of Four Lepton Generations

We study the lepton sector of a four generations model based on the discrete flavor group $A_5$ (the even permutation of five objects). The best features of the three family $A_4$ model survive, including the tribimaximal pattern of three generation neutrino mixings. At leading order the three light neutrino mass relations of $m_{ν_1} = m_{ν_3}$ and $m_{ν_2} = 0$ are predicted. The splitting of the neutrino masses can be naturally obtained as a result of the breaking of $A_{5}$ down to $A_4$ and a degenerate spectrum is preferred in our model. In our $A_5$ model, the electron mass is zero at tree level, but calculable through quantum corrections.

LHC Higgs Production and Decay in the T' Model

At $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, the standard model needs at least $10\, (fb)^{-1}$ integrated luminosity at LHC to make a definitive discovery of the Higgs boson. Using binary tetrahedral ($T^{'}$) discrete flavor symmetry, we discuss how the decay of the lightest $T'$ Higgs into $γ\,γ$ can be effectively enhanced and dominate over its decay into $b \, \bar{b}$. Since the two-photon final state allows for a clean reconstruction, a decisive Higgs discovery may be possible at 7 TeV with the integrated luminosity only of $\sim 1\, (fb)^{-1}$.

Electron and Muon $g-2$ Contributions from the $T'$ Higgs Sector

We study the experimental constraints from electron and muon $g-2$ factors on the Higgs masses and Yukawa couplings in the $T'$ model, and thereby show that the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and experimental value of muon anomalous $g-2$ factor can be easily accommodated.

A Note on Embedding Nonabelian Finite Flavor Groups in Continuous Groups

A nonabelian finite flavor group $G \subset SO(3)$ can have double covering $G^{'} \subset SU(2)$ such that $G \not\subset G^{'}$. This situation is not contradictory, but quite natural, and we give explicit examples such as $G=D_n, G^{'}=Q_{2n}$ and $G=T, G^{'}=T^{'}$. This observation can be crucial in particle theory model building.

Fermion Mixings in SU(9) Family Unification

In an SU(9) model of gauged family unification, we propose an explanation for why angles observed in the lepton flavor ({\it PMNS}) mixing matrix are significantly larger than those measured for any analagous quark flavor ({\it KM}) mixing angle. It is directly related to a see-saw mechanism that we assume to be responsible for the generation of neutrino masses. Our model is more constrained and therefore even more predictive than a model previously proposed by Barr.

What is the entropy of the universe?

Standard calculations suggest that the entropy of our universe is dominated by black holes, whose entropy is of order their area in Planck units, although they comprise only a tiny fraction of its total energy. Statistical entropy is the logarithm of the number of microstates consistent with the observed macroscopic properties of a system, hence a measure of uncertainty about its precise state. Therefore, assuming unitarity in black hole evaporation, the standard results suggest that the largest uncertainty in the future quantum state of the universe is due to the Hawking radiation from evaporating black holes. However, the entropy of the matter precursors to astrophysical black holes is enormously less than that given by area entropy. If unitarity relates the future radiation states to the black hole precursor states, then the standard results are highly misleading, at least for an observer that can differentiate the individual states of the Hawking radiation.

Towards Realizing Warm Inflation in String Theory

We give a generic argument that string theory provides a natural setting for warm inflationary cosmology. We then explore a specific model with an inflaton modulus field coupled to fields that provide the continuous dissipation needed for warm inflation and argue the results are generic for a large class of models.

Replacing Anthropy with entropy: Does it work?

Probably not, because there are lots of manifestly unanthropic ways of producing entropy. We demonstrate that the Causal Entropic Principle (CEP), as a replacement for the anthropic principle to explain the properties of the observed universe, suffers from many of the same problems of adopting myopic assumptions in order to predict that various fundamental parameters take approximately the observed values. In particular, we demonstrate that four mechanisms -- black hole production, black hole decay, phase transitions, and dark matter annihilations or decays -- will manifestly change the conclusions of the CEP to predict that we should live in a universe quite different than the one in which we find ourselves.

Decomposition of geometric perturbations

For an infinitesimal deformation of a Riemannian manifold, we prove that the scalar, vector, and tensor modes in decompositions of perturbations of the metric tensor, the scalar curvature, the Ricci tensor, and the Einstein tensor decouple if and only if the manifold is Einstein. Four-dimensional space-time satisfying the condition of the theorem is homogeneous and isotropic. Cosmological applications are discussed.
