Flavor Symmtry Breaking andd Mixing Effects in the eta-gamma and eta'-gamma Transition Form Factors

We reanalyze the eta-gamma and eta'-gamma transition form factors within the modified hard scattering approach on the basis of new experimental data from CLEO and L3. Our approach perfectly describes the experimental data over a wide range of the virtuality of the probing photon, 1 GeV^2 < Q^2 < 15 GeV^2. The analysis provides hints that the conventional flavor octet-singlet scheme for the eta-eta' mixing is too simple. A more general mixing scheme on the other hand, involving two mixing angles, leads to a very good description of the transition form factors and also accounts for the two-photon decay widths of the eta and eta' mesons as well as for the ratio of the widths for the J/Psi --> eta' gamma and J/Psi --> eta gamma decays. We also investigate the questions of possible deviations of the eta and eta' distribution amplitudes from the asymptotic form and of eventual intrinsic charm in the eta and eta' mesons. We estimate the charm decay constant of the eta' meson to lie within the range -65 MeV < fc(eta') <15 MeV.

The eta(c)-gamma Transition Form Factor

The eta(c)-gamma transition form factor is calculated within a perturbative approach. It is shown that the Q^2 dependence of the form factor is well determined in the region where experimental data is expected in the near future.

A perturbative approach to the eta_c-gamma transition form factor

The eta_c-gamma transition form factor is calculated within a perturbative approach. For the eta_c-meson, a wave function of the Bauer-Stech-Wirbel type is used where the two free parameters, namely the decay constant f(eta_c) and the transverse size of the wave function, are related to the Fock state probability and the width for the two-photon decay Gamma[eta_c -> gamma gamma]. The Q^2 dependence of the eta_c-gamma transition form factor is well determined.

Recent Results in the NJL model with heavy quarks

We investigate the interplay of chiral and heavy quark symmetries by using the NJL quark model. Heavy quarks with finite masses m(Q) as well as the limit m(Q) to infinity are studied. We found large corrections to the heavy mass scaling law for the pseudoscalar decay constant. The influence of external momenta on the shape parameters of the Isgur-Wise form factor is discussed.

Combining Vector-- and Heavy Quark Symmetry

Assuming that the chiral symmetry of the light degrees of freedom is realized as the vector symmetry proposed by Georgi, we write down a chiral Lagrangian for heavy mesons which incorporates both heavy quark and vector symmetry. Some of the phenomenological implications of this idea are considered.
