Hundred-hertz quantum circuit iteration rate in a reusable neutral-atom array

Neutral-atom quantum processors have rapidly advanced in scale and coherence, yet their practical performance remains constrained by limited quantum circuit iteration rates (qCIRs) and information throughput. Here we experimentally demonstrate a high-throughput neutral-atom system based on non-destructive readout and atom reuse. By integrating a chip-based photonic interface with a 10-qubit array, we implement non-destructive readout with a retention probability of 99.7%, and further achieve a raw qCIR of 101Hz and a post-selected qCIR of 74.8Hz. More importantly, we verify a general throughput optimization methodology and obtain a normalized Fisher information rate of 57.7Hz, improving the achievable throughput by more than one order of magnitude compared with conventional methods. Our results establish a practical route toward high-throughput neutral-atom quantum processors.

Self-induced optical non-reciprocity

Non-reciprocal optical components are indispensable in optical applications, and their realization without any magnetic field arose increasing research interests in photonics. Exciting experimental progress has been achieved by either introducing spatial-temporal modulation of the optical medium or combining Kerr-type optical nonlinearity with spatial asymmetry in photonic structures. However, extra driving fields are required for the first approach, while the isolation of noise and the transmission of the signal cannot be simultaneously achieved for the other approach. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a new concept of nonlinear non-reciprocal susceptibility for optical media and realize the completely passive isolation of optical signals without any external bias field. The self-induced isolation by the input signal is demonstrated with an extremely high isolation ratio of 63.4 dB, a bandwidth of 2.1 GHz for 60 dB isolation, and a low insertion loss of around 1 dB. Furthermore, novel functional optical devices are realized, including polarization purification and non-reciprocal leverage. The demonstrated nonlinear non-reciprocity provides a versatile tool to control light and deepen our understanding of light-matter interactions, and enables applications ranging from topological photonics to unidirectional quantum information transfer in a network.

Enhanced entanglement of two optical modes in optomechanical systems via an optical parametric amplifier

We investigate the effect of a degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA) placed inside an optomechanical cavity on the steady-state entanglement of two cavity modes, which jointly interact with a mechanical resonator. Two cavity modes are respectively driven at the red and blue sideband associated with the mechanical resonator, which generates entanglement between them in the limit of resolved sideband. The OPA gives rise to single-mode squeezing of the cavity fields, which results in significant improvement of the two-mode entanglement. It is found that an optimal nonlinear gain of the OPA exists, depending on the system temperatures, which yields the maximum entanglement. The improvement is particularly remarkable for the system at cryogenic temperatures.

Two-axis spin squeezing in two cavities

Ultracold atoms in an ultrahigh-finesse optical cavity are a powerful platform to produce spin squeezing since photon of cavity mode can induce nonlinear spin-spin interaction and thus generate a one-axis twisting Hamiltonian $H_{\text{OAT}}=qJ_{x}^{2}$, whose corresponding maximal squeezing factor scales as $N^{-2/3}$, where $N$ is the atomic number. On the contrary, for the other two-axis twisting Hamiltonian $H_{\text{TAT}}=q(J_{x}^{2}-J_{y}^{2})$, the maximal squeezing factor scales as $N^{-1}$, approaching the Heisenberg limit. In this paper, inspired by recent experiments of cavity-assisted Raman transitions, we propose a scheme, in which an ensemble of ultracold six-level atoms interacts with two quantized cavity fields and two pairs of Raman lasers, to realize a tunable two-axis spin Hamiltonian $%H=q(J_{x}^{2}+χJ_{y}^{2})+ω_{0}J_{z}$. For proper parameters, the above one- and two- axis twisting Hamiltonians are recovered, and the scaling of $N^{-1}$ of the maximal squeezing factor can occur naturally. On the other hand, in the two-axis twisting Hamiltonian, spin squeezing is usually reduced when increasing the effective atomic resonant frequency $ω_{0}$. Surprisingly, we find that by combined with the dimensionless parameter $χ(>-1)$, the effective atomic resonant frequency $ω_{0}$ can enhance spin squeezing largely. These results are benefit for achieving the required spin squeezing in experiments.
