OptiGeo: Efficient Monocular Geometry for Embodied Perception in Optically Challenging Scenes

Monocular depth estimation has achieved strong open-domain generalization, yet reliable robotic deployment remains difficult in transparent, reflective, and specular environments, where depth sensors often produce missing or biased depth. Existing methods often handle such optical failures with scene-specific preprocessing, auxiliary modules, or post-hoc fine-tuning. While effective in constrained settings, these designs increase architectural redundancy and can over-specialize general geometry models to narrow optical scenarios. We revisit this problem as a localized failure mode within base-model training and identify sensor-induced supervision bias as a key bottleneck: models inherit sensor failure patterns from biased real-depth supervision in optically challenging regions. We then introduce OptiGeo, a bias-aware training framework that rehabilitates biased real supervision using a clean-geometry teacher and residual-trimmed alignment. We redefine transparency-targeted rendering as a compact source of clean optical geometry, rather than a large domain-specific fine-tuning set. With only a small targeted rendering set, OptiGeo learns the geometric structure of transparent objects and regions, correcting local geometry distortions that real sensors cannot reliably supervise. Despite only 30M parameters, OptiGeo outperforms substantially larger 300M-scale monocular models and billion-scale multi-view baselines on transparent-scene benchmarks, while remaining competitive on general zero-shot depth and boundary sharpness. Real-world navigation cases further validate its practicality as an efficient perception module in optically challenging scenes.

QED radiative effects in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering: traditional and factorized approaches

Semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) of leptons is a vital tool for probing the three-dimensional momentum space partonic structure of the nucleon. Reliable extraction of the intrinsic collinear or transverse momentum dependent parton distributions from SIDIS data requires careful treatment of QED radiative effects beyond the Born level. In this work we perform a detailed comparative analysis of QED effects in SIDIS using the traditional Bardin-Shumeiko approach, augmented by the electron structure function method, and a more recent factorized approach that treats QED and QCD radiation on equal footing. We compare analytical and numerical results of these approaches for the unpolarized $\pi^+$ electroproduction cross sections off the proton and the Collins and Sivers transverse single-spin asymmetries, and identify the sources of discrepancies between the calculations, which for the cross sections can reach up to $\approx 2\%$, $\approx 7\%$, and $\approx 5\%$ at Jefferson Lab, HERMES, and EIC kinematics, respectively. To provide a unified approach for reliably extracting partonic information from future SIDIS measurements, we propose a hybrid framework that employs the salient features of both frameworks in their respective regions of applicability.

Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer

Chirality lies at the heart of low-energy QCD, governing the symmetry structure that shapes hadron masses and strong interaction dynamics. Among the most compelling open questions tied to chiral dynamics and spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking is the longstanding $\Lambda$ polarization puzzle, in which $\Lambda$ hyperons produced in unpolarized hadronic collisions exhibit a surprisingly large transverse polarization that remains theoretically unexplained. This whitepaper presents the proposal for the Hyperon-Nucleon Spectrometer (H-NS) at the High-Intensity heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF). Leveraging the high energy and high intensity of HIAF's proton and heavy-ion beams, the H-NS experiment will perform systematic studies of hyperon polarization phenomena and their underlying mechanisms in proton-proton ($pp$), proton-nucleus ($pA$), and nucleus-nucleus ($AA$) collisions in the fixed target mode. A wide-range beam energy scan, including proton beams from 3 GeV up to 9.3 GeV (HIAF) and up to 32 GeV (upgraded HIAF), will be conducted to examine the dependence of polarization on collision energy. The spectrometer is designed with specialized detectors capable of high-precision reconstruction of final-state baryon polarizations. Among its many interesting and important measurements, H-NS will simultaneously measure hyperon and proton spin observables to explore the polarization mechanism in hadronic interactions and the spin structure of baryons. Furthermore, the use of $pA$ and $AA$ collisions will enable detailed investigations of cold and hot nuclear matter effects on spin polarization. Its physics program and detector development will significantly benefit the future Electron-ion Collider in China.

CoRe-Gen: Robust Spectrum-to-Structure Generation under Imperfect Fingerprint Conditions

Molecular structure elucidation from tandem mass spectra (MS/MS) remains challenging, particularly for de novo generation beyond database coverage. A common approach decomposes the task into spectrum-to-fingerprint prediction followed by fingerprint-to-structure decoding, enabling the use of large-scale molecular corpora. However, at deployment, the decoder relies on predicted rather than oracle fingerprints, introducing structured errors that propagate into generation. This results in a fundamental condition mismatch, where models trained on clean inputs must operate under noisy, biased predictions, especially for long-tail substructures. We present CoRe-Gen that explicitly addresses this gap. CoRe-Gen improves the intermediate condition via synthetic-spectrum pretraining of the encoder, matches deployment-time noise through frequency-aware fingerprint corruption during decoder training, and mitigates residual errors using structure-aware autoregressive decoding with compositional SELFIES representations, auxiliary structural supervision, and lightweight chemical constraints. Experiments on standard benchmarks show that CoRe-Gen establishes a new state of the art on NPLIB1, achieving 19.54\% Top-1 and 29.92\% Top-10 exact-match accuracy, while remaining competitive on the more challenging MassSpecGym benchmark. Importantly, CoRe-Gen preserves the efficiency advantages of autoregressive decoding, providing a practical and scalable solution for robust spectrum-to-structure generation under realistic conditions.

Higher-twist effect in inclusive electron-positron annihilation

We establish a comprehensive theoretical framework for the electron-positron single-inclusive annihilation (SIA) process that incorporates higher-twist contributions up to twist-4 and demonstrate that these effects should be considered in low-energy reactions. Through a systematic collinear expansion of the hadronic tensor, we derive the complete set of structure functions in terms of collinear fragmentation functions (FFs), explicitly including multi-parton correlators up to the four-parton level. To evaluate the impact of these power corrections, we estimate the twist-4 unpolarized FF using a spectator model and compute the normalized differential cross section for $π^0$ production. Our numerical analysis reveals that the interplay between kinematic hadron mass corrections and dynamical twist-4 effects improves the theoretical description of recent BESIII data at relatively low-$z$ region. Furthermore, the $Q$-dependence confirms that higher-twist corrections are dominant at intermediate energy scales. These findings indicate that standard leading-twist global analyses must be extended to include these power corrections for precise studies of hadronization dynamics.

Semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering off a tensor-polarized spin-1 target

We investigate the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering off a tensor-polarized spin-1 target, focusing on the production of an unpolarized hadron. The complete differential cross section is expressed in terms of 23 structure functions, which depend on the spin states of the target and the azimuthal modulations of the final-state hadron. Within the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization framework, we derive the hadronic tensor using quark-quark correlators and quark-gluon-quark correlators up to twist-3. At tree-level, 21 nonvanishing structure functions are obtained at the leading and subleading twist, expressed as convolutions of TMD parton distribution functions and TMD fragmentation functions. The measurement of these nonzero structure functions can be utilized to explore the tensor-polarized structure of spin-1 particles, offering insights into their internal dynamics.

Polarization analysis in $e^+e^-\rightarrow J/ψ\rightarrow$ baryon-antibaryon pairs

We present a comprehensive polarization analysis for the process $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow J/ψ\rightarrow$ baryon-antibaryon pairs~$B_{1}\bar{B}_{2}$. All possible helicity amplitudes for $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow J/ψ$ and $J/ψ\rightarrow B_{1} \bar{B}_{2}$ are provided, along with their transformation properties under parity and $CP$ operations. Taking full account of beam polarization, we analyze the polarization of the $J/ψ$ produced in $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation and show that all eight independent polarization components can be nonzero. By introducing a polarization transfer matrix, we propose a novel method to compute the polarization transfer in the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow B_{1} \bar{B}_{2}$. Considering both hadronic and radiative baryon decay models, we derive the joint angular distribution of the final-state particles. Focusing on the process $J/ψ\rightarrow Λ\barΣ^{0}$, we provide statistical uncertainty estimates for probing $CP$ violation in associated production of different baryons. This work establishes a complete framework for studying the parity and $CP$ violations present in baryon productions and decays within the helicity formalism.

The Sivers asymmetry of vector meson production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering

The transverse single-spin asymmetry for $ρ^0$ production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering was recently reported by the COMPASS Collaboration. Using the Sivers functions extracted from pion and kaon productions, we perform a calculation of the Sivers asymmetry within the transverse momentum dependent factorization. Our results are consistent with the COMPASS data, confirming the universality of the Sivers functions within current experimental uncertainties. While various global analyses of Sivers functions can equally well describe the current data, we obtain very different predictions on the Sivers asymmetry of $ρ$ and $K^*$ productions at electron-ion colliders, which therefore are expected to provide further constraints.

Testing Lepton Flavor Universality at the Electron-Ion Collider

Measurements of $b\to cτ^-\barν_τ$ transitions at colliders are highly motivated for testing lepton flavor universality (LFU), a cornerstone hypothesis of the Standard Model (SM). Potential observations of LFU violation could provide significant evidence for physics beyond the SM (BSM). The substantial production of $b$-hadrons at the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) would highlight its potential to support LFU testing and complement studies conducted at other experimental facilities. In this paper, we study the production of $b$-hadrons in deep inelastic scattering processes at the EIC with $\sqrt{s}=100\,\rm GeV$. We estimate the $b$-hadron yields at the EIC to reach $\mathcal O(10^9)$ with an integrated luminosity of up to $10^3\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$. Furthermore, we perform a systematic study on various $b$-hadron decays, exploring the sensitivities of LFU-violating observables, including $R_{J/ψ}$, $R_{D_s^{(\ast)}}$ and $R_{Λ_c}$. Detailed strategies for track-based event reconstruction are investigated for these observables. We also include a discussion of the annihilation process $B_c^+ \to τ^+ν_τ$. Finally, we provide a theoretical interpretation of the projected sensitivities within the framework of low energy effective field theory (LEFT). Our analysis indicates that the EIC has the potential to constrain the relevant Wilson coefficients at $\mathcal O(0.1)$, offering complementary insights to other measurements.

Suppression of Spin Transfer to $Λ$ Hyperon in Deep-Inelastic Scattering

We investigate $Λ$ production in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering using a polarized lepton beam and find that the spin transfer is significantly suppressed by target fragmentation. As further demonstrated by a model estimation, experimental data can be well described once the target fragmentation is taken into account, which alleviates the tension with calculations solely based on current fragmentation. Our findings suggest that, at the energies of existing fixed-target experiments, the separation of current and target fragmentation regions is not distinct. Spin transfer as well as other spin effects offers a sensitive probe into the origin of the produced hadron.

Asymptotic gauge symmetry and UV extension of the nonperturbative coupling in holographic QCD

We extend our recent analytic study of the strong coupling $α_{\rm eff}$ in the nonperturbative and near-perturbative regimes~\cite{deTeramond:2024ikl} by imposing rigorous renormalization-group results from asymptotically free gauge theories at $Q^2 \to \infty$. The asymptotic boundary conditions modify the scaling properties of $α_{\rm eff}$ at large values of the momentum transfer $Q^2$, and lead to a scale-dependent confinement strength $κ(Q^2)$. This requires that both $κ(Q^2)$ and $α_{\rm eff}\left(Q^2, κ(Q^2)\right)$ remain holomorphic in the complex $Q^2$ plane, except at the physical cuts associated with the heavy-quark thresholds and the singularity flow trajectory studied in~\cite{deTeramond:2024ikl}. For color $SU(3)$, a precise connection is found between the scaling exponent of $κ(Q^2)$ in the ultraviolet, the value of the infrared fixed point of the strong coupling, and the number of flavors in agreement with observations. The nonperturbative analytic model gives an accurate description of the strong coupling at all scales, up to the highest available data.

Six-dimensional light-front Wigner distributions of the proton

We investigate six-dimensional quark Wigner distributions of the proton in a light-front quark spectator-diquark model. Benefiting from the light-front boost-invariant longitudinal variable $\tilde{z}$, these light-front Wigner distributions provide complete information of parton distribution in the phase space and the correlation with spins. At the leading twist, one can define 16 independent distribution functions in according to different combinations of quark and proton polarizations. Numerical results of all these Wigner distributions are presented, unraveling rich structures of the proton, which may potentially provide new observables to be explored at future experiments.

Polarized and unpolarized gluon PDFs: generative machine learning applications for lattice QCD matrix elements at short distance and large momentum

Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) calculations share a defining challenge by requiring a small finite range of spatial separation $z$ between quark/gluon bilinears for controllable power corrections in the perturbative QCD factorization, and a large hadron boost $p_z$ for a successful determination of collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs). However, these two requirements make the determination of PDFs from lattice data very challenging. We present the application of generative machine learning algorithms to estimate the polarized and unpolarized gluon correlation functions utilizing short-distance data and extending the correlation up to $zp_z \lesssim 14$, surpassing the current capabilities of lattice QCD calculations. We train physics-informed machine learning algorithms to learn from the short-distance correlation at $z\lesssim 0.36$ fm and take the limit, $p_z \to \infty$, thereby minimizing possible contamination from the higher-twist effects for a successful reconstruction of the polarized gluon PDF. We also expose the bias and problems with underestimating uncertainties associated with the use of model-dependent and overly constrained functional forms, such as $x^α(1-x)^β$ and its variants to extract PDFs from the lattice data. We propose the use of generative machine learning algorithms to mitigate these issues and present our determination of the polarized and unpolarized gluon PDFs in the nucleon.

First Extraction of Transverse Momentum Dependent Helicity Distributions

We report on the first global analysis of transverse momentum dependent helicity distributions of the proton. The analysis is performed at next-to-leading order with the evolution factor at next-to-next-to-leading-logarithmic accuracy. Nonzero signals are determined for up and down quarks and their $k_T$-integrated polarization are consistent with analyses in collinear factorization, while the distributions of other flavors are loosely constrained by existing data. With increasing transverse momentum, quarks at large $x$ become less polarized while those at small $x$ become more polarized.

Liquid crystalline structures formed by sphere-rod amphiphilic molecules in solvents

Self-assembly of amphiphilic molecules is an important phenomenon attracting a broad range of research. In this work, we study the self-assembly of KTOF4 sphere-rod amphiphilic molecules in mixed water-dioxane solvents. The molecules are of a T-shaped geometry, comprised of a hydrophilic spherical Keggin-type cluster attached by a flexible bridge to the center of a hydrophobic rod-like oligodialkylfluorene (OF), which consists of four OF units. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) uncovers self-assembled spherical structures of KTOF4 in dilute solutions. These spheres are filled with smectic-like layers of KTOF4 separated by layers of the solution. There are two types of layer packings: (i) concentric spheres and (ii) flat layers. The concentric spheres form when the dioxane volume fraction in the solution is 35-50 vol%. The flat layers are formed when the dioxane volume fraction is either below (20 and 30 vol%.) or above (55 and 60 vol%.) the indicated range. The layered structures show no in-plane orientational order and thus resemble thermotropic smectic A liquid crystals and their lyotropic analogs. The layered packings reveal edge and screw dislocations. Evaporation of the solvent produces a bulk birefringent liquid crystal phase with textures resembling the ones of uniaxial nematic liquid crystals. These findings demonstrate that sphere-rod molecules produce a variety of self-assembled structures that are controlled by the solvent properties.

Helicity correlation of neighboring dihadron

The spin correlation of final-state hadrons provides a novel platform to explore the hadronization mechanism of polarized partons in unpolarized high-energy collisions. In this work, we investigate the helicity correlation of two hadrons originating from the same single parton. The production of such a dihadron system is formally described by the interference dihadron fragmentation function, in which the helicity correlation between the two hadrons arise from both the long-distance nonperturbative physics and the perturbative QCD evolution. Beyond the extraction of the dihadron fragmentation function, we demonstrate that it is also a sensitive observable to the longitudinal spin transfer, characterized by the single hadron fragmentation function $G_{1L}$. This intriguing connection opens up new opportunities for understanding the spin dynamics of hadronization and provides a complementary approach to corresponding studies using polarized beams and targets.

Polarization analysis of two baryons with various spin combinations produced in electron-positron annihilation

We developed a method to analyze the polarization correlations of two baryons $B_{1}\bar{B}_{2}$ with various spin combinations in the annihilation process. We established spin density matrices for arbitrary spins in standard and Cartesian forms, and demonstrated their application in the helicity formalism. This paper provides parametrization schemes for the helicity amplitudes and details the analysis of two baryons with spin combinations of (1/2, 1/2), (1/2, 3/2), and (1/2, 5/2). We also illustrated methods for determining the spin and parity of the excited baryon $\barΞ^{*+}$ using the $e^{+}e^{-} \rightarrow γ^*/ψ\rightarrow Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{*+}$ process as an example. Our research offers broad opportunities for exploring the baryon spectrum and transition form factors in electron-positron annihilation.

Semi-inclusive production of spin-3/2 hadrons in deep inelastic scattering

We investigate the production of spin-3/2 hadrons in semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton-nucleon scatterings. The complete differential cross section is derived through the kinematic analysis and expressed in terms of 288 structure functions, corresponding to all polarization configurations and azimuthal modulations. For an unpolarized lepton beam, half of the 192 structure functions have nonzero leading order contributions in the parton model, among which 42 are from rank-3 tensor polarized fragmentation functions of the hadron. For a polarized lepton beam, one third of the 96 structure functions contribute at the leading order and 14 of them are from rank-3 tensor polarized fragmentation functions. In addition to the formalism, we perform a model estimation of the spin transfer to a $S_{hLLL}$ polarized hadron and sizable asymmetry is expected. Therefore, these newly defined observables for the production of a spin-3/2 hadron in a deep inelastic scattering process can be explored in future experiments to understand nucleon spin structures and spin-dependent fragmentation functions.
