Probing the No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ One-Parameter Model via Gluino Searches at the LHC2

In our recent paper entitled "The return of the King: No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$", we showed that the model space supporting the most favorable phenomenology should have been probed in 2016 at the LHC2, with an even further reach into this region of the model in 2017-18. This ideal realm of the one-parameter version of No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ yields a 1.9-2.3 TeV gluino mass at the very same point where the light Higgs boson mass enters its rather narrow experimentally determined range of $m_h = 125.09 \pm 0.24$ GeV. Given the recent results reported at Moriond 2017 for 36 ${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of luminosity collected in 2016 at the 13 TeV LHC2, we now update the status of the No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ model space in light of the gluino mass exclusion limits presented by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. We illustrate that a resolution could be reached soon as to whether supersymmetry lives in this most critical region of the model space.

New signals for vector-like down-type quark in $U(1)$ of $E_6$

We consider the pair production of vector-like down-type quarks in an $E_6$ motivated model, where each of the produced down-type vector-like quark decays into an ordinary Standard Model light quark and a singlet scalar. Both the vector-like quark and singlet scalar appear naturally in the $E_6$ model with masses at the TeV scale with a favorable choice of symmetry breaking pattern. We focus on the non-standard decay of the vector-like quark and the new scalar which decays to two photons or two gluons. We analyze the signal for the vector-like quark production in the $2γ+\geq2j$ channel and show how the scalar and vector-like quark masses can be determined at the Large Hadron Collider.

Asymmetric Dark Matter Bound State

We propose an interesting framework for asymmetric scalar dark matter (ADM), which has novel collider phenomenology in terms of an unstable ADM bound state (ADMonium) produced via Higgs portals. ADMonium is a natural consequence of the basic features of ADM: the (complex scalar) ADM is charged under a dark local $U(1)_d$ symmetry which is broken at a low scale and provides a light gauge boson $X$. The dark gauge coupling is strong and then ADM can annihilate away into $X$-pair effectively. Therefore, the ADM can form bound state due to its large self-interaction via $X$ mediation. To explore the collider signature of ADMonium, we propose that ADM has a two-Higgs doublet portal. The ADMonium can have a sizable mixing with the heavier Higgs boson, which admits a large cross section of ADMonium production associated with $b\bar b$. The resulting signature at the LHC depends on the decays of $X$. In this paper we consider a case of particular interest: $pp\ra b\bar b+ {\rm ADMonium}$ followed by ${\rm ADMonium}\ra 2X\ra 2e^+e^-$ where the electrons are identified as (un)converted photons. It may provide a competitive explanation to heavy di-photon resonance searches at the LHC.

Hybrid Anomaly and Gravity Mediation for Electroweak Supersymmetry

We propose a hybrid mediation and hybrid supersymmetry breaking. In particular the RG-invariant anomaly mediation is considered. Together with additional gravity mediation the slepton tachyon problem of anomaly mediation is solved automatically. The special properties are that all of color sparticles masses fall into several TeV region due to the large $m_0$ and $m_{32}$ which are well beyond the scope of current LHC Run II limits. Unlike the gauge mediation, the dark matter candidate is still the lightest neutralino and the correct dark matter relic density can be realized within the framework of mixed axion-wino dark matter. Due to the existence of multi-component of axion-wino dark matter, the direct detection cross section is suppressed to evade the tightest LUX, PandaX bound. Furthermore the fine-tuning is under control when the single scale supersymmetry breaking mechanism is adapted.

General No-Scale Supergravity: An ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ Tale

We study the grand unification model flipped $SU(5)$ with additional vector-like particle multiplets, or ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ for short, in the framework of General No-Scale Supergravity. In our analysis we allow the supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking soft terms to be generically non-zero, thereby extending the phenomenologically viable parameter space beyond the highly constrained one-parameter version of ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$. In this initial inquiry, the mSUGRA/CMSSM SUSY breaking terms are implemented. We find this easing away from the vanishing SUSY breaking terms enables a more broad mass range of vector-like particles, dubbed flippons, including flippons less than 1 TeV that could presently be observed at the LHC2, as well as a lighter gluino mass and SUSY spectrum overall. This presents heightened odds that the General No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ viable parameter space can be probed at the LHC2. The phenomenology comprises both bino and higgsino dark matter, including a Higgs funnel region. Particle states emerging from the SUSY cascade decays are presented to experimentally distinguish amongst the diverse phenomenological regions.

Low Fine Tuning in Yukawa-deflected Gauge Mediation

We discuss a class of models with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking characterized by a non-unified messenger sector inducing non-standard gaugino mass ratios, as well as by additional contributions to the soft mass terms from a matter-messenger coupling. The well-known effect of this coupling is to generate A-terms at one-loop level, hence raising the Higgs mass without relying on super-heavy stops. At the same time, a hierarchy between Wino and gluino masses, as induced by the non-unified messenger fields, can greatly lower the radiative corrections to the Higgs soft mass term driven by the high-energy parameters, thus reducing the fine tuning. We search for models with low fine tuning within this scenario, and we discuss the spectrum, collider phenomenology, constraints, and prospects of the found solutions. We find that some setups are accessible or already excluded by searches at the Large Hadron Collider, and all our scenarios with a tuning better than about 2\% can be tested at the International Linear Collider.

Natural Supersymmetry from the Yukawa Deflect Mediations

The natural supersymmetry (SUSY) requires light stop quarks, light sbottom quark, and gluino to be around one TeV or lighter. The first generation squarks can be effectively large which does not introduce any hierarchy problem in order to escape the constraints from LHC. In this paper we consider a Yukawa deflect medation to realize the effective natural supersymmetry where the interaction between squarks and messenger are made natural under certain Frogget-Nelson $U(1)_X$ charge. The first generation squarks obtain large and postive contribution from the yukawa deflect mediation. The corresponding phenomenology as well as sparticle spectrum are discussed in detail.

Higgs Mass and Muon $g-2$ Anomaly in MSSM with Gauge-Gravity hybrid Mediation

In general, we can propose the hybrid supersymmetry breakings and hybrid mediations in the Supersymmetric Standard Models (SSMs). In this paper, we study the hybrid mediation for supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking. In particular, we study how to keep the good properties of gravity mediation, gauge mediation, and anomaly mediation, while solve their problems simultaneously. As an example, we consider the anomaly-gravity mediation, where all the supersymmetric particles (sparticles) obtain the SUSY breaking soft terms from the traditional gravity mediation while gauge mediation gives dominant contributions to the soft terms in the colored sector due to the splitted messengers. Thus, we can realize the electroweak supersymmetry naturally where the sleptons, sneutrinos, and electroweakinos are light within one TeV while the squarks and gluino are heavy around a few TeVs. And then we can explain 125 GeV Higgs mass, satisfy the LHC SUSY search bounds, and explain the anomalous magnetic momement of muon, etc. Moreover, the gluino and squarks are well beyond the current LHC Run II searches.

Dynamic stiffness of the contact between a carbon nanotube and a flat substrate in a peeling geometry

We study the physics of adhesion and the contact mechanics at the nanoscale with a peeling experiment of a carbon nanotube on a flat substrate. Using an interferometric atomic force microscope and an extended force modulation protocol, we investigate the frequency response of the stiffness of the nano-contact from DC to 20 kHz. We show that this dynamic stiffness is only weakly frequency dependent, increasing by a factor 2 when the frequency grows by 3 orders of magnitude. Such behavior may be the signature of amorphous relaxations during the mechanical solicitation at the nano-scale.

Diphoton Excess in Consistent Supersymmetric SU(5) Models with Vector-like Particles

We consider the diphoton resonance at the 13 TeV LHC in the context of SU(5) grand unification. A leading candidate to explain this resonance is a standard model singlet scalar decaying to a pair of photon by means of vector-like fermionic loops. We demonstrate the effect of the vector-like multiplets (5, 5 bar) and (10, 10 bar) on the evolution of the gauge couplings and perturbatively evaluate the weak scale values of the new couplings and masses run down from the unification scale. We use these masses and couplings to explain the diphoton resonance after considering the new dijet constraints. We show how to accommodate the larger decay width of the resonance particle, which seems to be preferred by the experimental data. In addition, we consider new couplings relating various components of (5, 5 bar) and (10, 10 bar) in the context of the orbifold GUTs, where the resonance scalar can be a part of the new vector-like lepton doublets. We also calculate the Higgs mass and proton decay rate to positron and neutral pion in the context of SU(5) grand unification, including effects of the new vector-like multiplets.

The Return of the King: No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$

We revisit the viable parameter space in No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$, examining the Grand Unified Theory within the context of the prevailing gluino mass limits established by the LHC. The satisfaction of both the No-Scale boundary condition and the experimentally measured Standard Model (SM) like Higgs boson mass requires a lower limit on the gluino mass in the model space of about 1.9 TeV, which maybe not coincidentally is the current LHC supersymmetry search bound. This offers a plausible explanation as to why a supersymmetry signal has thus far not been observed at the LHC. On the contrary, since the vector-like flippon particles are relatively heavy due to the strict condition that the supersymmetry breaking soft term $B_μ$ must vanish at the unification scale, we also cannot address the recently vanished 750 GeV diphoton resonance at the 13 TeV LHC. Therefore, No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ returns as a King after the spurious 750 GeV diphoton excess was gone with the wind.

U-duality transformation of membrane on $T^{n}$ revisited

The problem with the U-duality transformation of membrane on $T^{n}$ is recently addressed in [arXiv:1509.02915 [hep-th]]. We will consider the U-duality transformation rule of membrane on $T^{n}\times R$. It turns out that winding modes on $T^{n}$ should be taken into account, since the duality transformation may bring the membrane configuration without winding modes into the one with winding modes. With the winding modes added, the membrane worldvolume theory in lightcone gauge is equivalent to the $n+1$ dimensional super-Yang-Mills (SYM) theory in $\tilde{T}^{n}$, which has $SL(2,Z)\times SL(3,Z)$ and $SL(5,Z)$ symmetries for $n=3$ and $n=4$, respectively. The $SL(2,Z)\times SL(3,Z)$ transformation can be realized classically, making the on-shell field configurations transformed into each other. However, the $SL(5,Z)$ symmetry may only be realized at the quantum level, since the classical $5d$ SYM field configurations cannot form the representation of $SL(5,Z)$.

An SU(6) GUT Origin of the TeV-Scale Vector-like Particles Associated with the 750 GeV Diphoton Resonance

We consider the $SU(6)$ GUT model as an explanation for the diphoton final state excess, where the masses of all associated particles are linked with a new symmetry breaking scale. In this model, the diphoton final states arise due to loops involving three pairs of new vector-like particles having the same quantum numbers as down-type quarks and lepton doublets. These new vector-like fermions are embedded alongside the SM fermions into minimal anomaly-free representations of the $SU(6)$ gauge symmetry. The $SU(6)$ symmetry is broken to the Standard Model times $U(1)_X$ at the GUT scale, and masses for the vector-like fermions arise at the TeV scale only after the residual $U(1)_X$ symmetry is broken. The vector-like fermions do not acquire masses via breaking of the SM symmetry at the EW scale. The field which is responsible for the newly observed resonance belongs to the $\bar{6}_H$ representation. The dark matter arises from the SM singlet fermion residing in $\bar{6}$ and is of Majorana type. We explicitly demonstrate gauge coupling unification in this model, and also discuss the origin of neutrino masses. In addition to the diphoton final states, we make distinctive predictions for other final states which are likewise accessible to the ongoing LHC experimental effort.

A Flippon Related Singlet at the LHC II

We consider the 750 GeV diphoton resonance at the 13 TeV LHC in the ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ model with a Standard Model (SM) singlet field which couples to TeV-scale vector-like particles, dubbed $flippons$. This singlet field assumes the role of the 750 GeV resonance, with production via gluon fusion and subsequent decay to a diphoton via the vector-like particle loops. We present a numerical analysis showing that the observed 8 TeV and 13 TeV diphoton production cross-sections can be generated in the model space with realistic electric charges and Yukawa couplings for light vector-like masses. We further discuss the experimental viability of light vector-like masses in a General No-Scale ${\cal F}$-$SU(5)$ model, offering a few benchmark scenarios in this consistent GUT that can satisfy all experimental constraints imposed by the LHC and other essential experiments.

A new proposal for diphoton resonance from $E_6$ motivated extra $U(1)$

We propose that the diphoton resonance signal indicated by the recent LHC data might also arise from the pair productions of vector-like heavy down-type quarks with mass around $750$ GeV and above. The vector-like quark decays into an ordinary light quark and a Standard Model singlet scalar. The subsequent decay of scalar singlet produces the diphoton excess. Both the vector-like quark and singlet scalars appear naturally in the $E_6$, and their masses can be in the TeV scale with a suitable choice of symmetry breaking pattern. The prediction of such a proposal would be to see an accompanying dijet signal at the same mass with similar cross section in the $2γ+ 2j$ final state and two dijet resonances at the same mass for a $4j$ final state with a cross section, about 100 times larger. Both predictions can be tested easily as the luminosity accumulates in the upcoming runs of the LHC.

The $750$ GeV Diphoton Excesses in a Realistic D-brane Model

We study the diphoton excesses near $750$ GeV recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations within the context of a phenomenologically interesting intersecting/magnetized D-brane model on a toroidal orientifold. It is shown that the model contains a SM singlet scalar as well as vector-like quarks and leptons. In addition, it is shown that the singlet scalar has Yukawa couplings with vector-like quarks and leptons such that it may be produced in proton-proton collisions via gluon fusion as well as decay to diphotons through loops involving the vector-like quarks. Moreover, the required vector-like quarks and leptons may appear in complete $SU(5)$ multiplets so that gauge coupling unification may be maintained. Finally, it is shown that the diphoton signal may be explained within the model.

Improving naturalness in Gauge Mediation with non-unified messenger sectors

We study models of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking with messengers that do not belong to complete representations of grand-unified gauge groups. We show that certain setups characterized by heavy Wino can greatly improve the fine tuning with respect to models with unified messengers, such as minimal gauge mediation. The typical models with low tuning feature multi-TeV superparticles, with the exception of the Higgsinos and possibly Bino and right-handed sleptons. As a consequence, the absence of signals for supersymmetry at the LHC is trivially accommodated in our framework. On the other hand, testing these models will be challenging at the LHC. We finally show that the gravitino can be a consistent candidate for cold dark matter, provided a rather low reheating temperature, if a standard thermal history of the universe is assumed.

Interpreting $750$ GeV Diphoton Excess with R-parity Violating Supersymmetry

We propose an supersymmetric explanation of the diphoton excess in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with the leptonic R-parity violation. Where the sneutrino serves as the 750 GeV resonance and produced through quark anti-quark annihilation. With introducing appropriate trilinear soft parameters, we show that the diphoton branching ratio is significantly enhanced compared with the conventional MSSM. The parameter space favored by diphoton excess strongly indicates the mass of smuon and stau fall into the range $375-410$ (375-480) GeV, which depending on the electroweakino masses. In addition, the $R$-parity-violating trilinear couplings involved with second generation quarks are both favored by compatibility of diphoton excess and low-energy constraints.
