Trajectory-Level Speculative Decoding for Diffusion Language Models

Diffusion-based language models (dLLMs) enable parallel token generation through iterative denoising, but existing decoding strategies collapse to single-token generation under low confidence, severely limiting throughput. Unlike autoregressive models where speculative decoding operates on token sequences in a fixed left-to-right order, dLLMs require speculating over denoising trajectories-sequences of multi-token updates with explicit positions and unmasking orders. We develop a trajectory-level speculative framework that constructs draft denoising trajectories via confidence-stratified tree exploration and verifies them through blockwise parallel evaluation with bidirectional attention masking. Our method further introduces inter-block speculation, exploiting diffusion models' bidirectional structure to perform cross-block lookahead. We formally characterize when this approach is exact and identify trajectory drift as the fundamental cost of increased parallelism. Building on Fast-dLLM's dual-cache infrastructure, our framework reduces denoising iterations by 30-40% and increases tokens-per-step from 2.6 to 4.3, achieving 7-14x speedup over vanilla dLLMs and 1.3x over Fast-dLLM with less than 1% accuracy change across reasoning and code benchmarks.

A Continuum Model for Dislocation Climb

Dislocation climb plays an important role in understanding plastic deformation of metallic materials at high temperature. In this paper, we present a continuum formulation for dislocation climb velocity based on densities of dislocations. The obtained continuum formulation is an accurate approximation of the Green's function based discrete dislocation dynamics method (Gu et al. J. Mech. Phys. Solids 83:319-337, 2015). The continuum dislocation climb formulation has the advantage of accounting for both the long-range effect of vacancy bulk diffusion and that of the Peach-Koehler climb force, and the two longrange effects are canceled into a short-range effect (integral with fast-decaying kernel) and in some special cases, a completely local effect. This significantly simplifies the calculation in the Green's function based discrete dislocation dynamics method, in which a linear system has to be solved over the entire system for the long-range effect of vacancy diffusion and the long-range Peach-Koehler climb force has to be calculated. This obtained continuum dislocation climb velocity can be applied in any available continuum dislocation dynamics frameworks. We also present numerical validations for this continuum climb velocity and simulation examples for implementation in continuum dislocation dynamics frameworks.

Perfectly matched layer method for optical modes in dielectric cavities

The optical resonance problem is similar to but different from time-steady Schrödinger equation. One big challenge is that the eigenfunctions in resonance problem is exponentially growing. We give physical explanation to this boundary condition and introduce perfectly matched layer (PML) method to transform eigenfunctions from exponential-growth to exponential-decay. Based on the complex stretching technique, we construct a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian for the optical resonance problem. We successfully validate the effectiveness of the Hamiltonian by calculate its eigenvalues in the circular cavity and compare with the analytical results. We also use the proposed Hamiltonian to investigate the mode evolution around exceptional points in the quad-cosine cavity.

Stochastic Peierls-Nabarro Model for Dislocations in High Entropy Alloys

High entropy alloys (HEAs) are single phase crystals that consist of random solid solutions of multiple elements in approximately equal proportions. This class of novel materials have exhibited superb mechanical properties, such as high strength combined with other desired features. The strength of crystalline materials is associated with the motion of dislocations. In this paper, we derive a stochastic continuum model based on the Peierls-Nabarro framework for inter-layer dislocations in a bilayer HEA from an atomistic model that incorporates the atomic level randomness. We use asymptotic analysis and limit theorem in the convergence from the atomistic model to the continuum model. The total energy in the continuum model consists of a stochastic elastic energy in the two layers, and a stochastic misfit energy that accounts for the inter-layer nonlinear interaction. The obtained continuum model can be considered as a stochastic generalization of the classical, deterministic Peierls-Nabarro model for the dislocation core and related properties. This derivation also validates the stochastic model adopted by Zhang et al. (Acta Mater. 166, 424-434, 2019).

D2D Big Data: Content Deliveries over Wireless Device-to-Device Sharing in Large Scale Mobile Networks

Recently the topic of how to effectively offload cellular traffic onto device-to-device (D2D) sharing among users in proximity has been gaining more and more attention of global researchers and engineers. Users utilize wireless short-range D2D communications for sharing contents locally, due to not only the rapid sharing experience and free cost, but also high accuracy on deliveries of interesting and popular contents, as well as strong social impacts among friends. Nevertheless, the existing related studies are mostly confined to small-scale datasets, limited dimensions of user features, or unrealistic assumptions and hypotheses on user behaviors. In this article, driven by emerging Big Data techniques, we propose to design a big data platform, named D2D Big Data, in order to encourage the wireless D2D communications among users effectively, to promote contents for providers accurately, and to carry out offloading intelligence for operators efficiently. We deploy a big data platform and further utilize a large-scale dataset (3.56 TBytes) from a popular D2D sharing application (APP), which contains 866 million D2D sharing activities on 4.5 million files disseminated via nearly 850 million users in 13 weeks. By abstracting and analyzing multidimensional features, including online behaviors, content properties, location relations, structural characteristics, meeting dynamics, social arborescence, privacy preservation policies and so on, we verify and evaluate the D2D Big Data platform regarding predictive content propagating coverage. Finally, we discuss challenges and opportunities regarding D2D Big Data and propose to unveil a promising upcoming future of wireless D2D communications.
