Intuitive interaction flow: A Dual-Loop Human-Machine Collaboration Task Allocation Model and an experimental study

This study investigates the issue of task allocation in Human-Machine Collaboration (HMC) within the context of Industry 4.0. By integrating philosophical insights and cognitive science, it clearly defines two typical modes of human behavior in human-machine interaction(HMI): skill-based intuitive behavior and knowledge-based intellectual behavior. Building on this, the concept of 'intuitive interaction flow' is innovatively introduced by combining human intuition with machine humanoid intelligence, leading to the construction of a dual-loop HMC task allocation model. Through comparative experiments measuring electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyogram (EMG) activities, distinct physiological patterns associated with these behavior modes are identified, providing a preliminary foundation for future adaptive HMC frameworks. This work offers a pathway for developing intelligent HMC systems that effectively integrate human intuition and machine intelligence in Industry 4.0.

Efficient Reinforcement Learning Development with RLzoo

Many researchers and developers are exploring for adopting Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL) techniques in their applications. They however often find such an adoption challenging. Existing DRL libraries provide poor support for prototyping DRL agents (i.e., models), customising the agents, and comparing the performance of DRL agents. As a result, the developers often report low efficiency in developing DRL agents. In this paper, we introduce RLzoo, a new DRL library that aims to make the development of DRL agents efficient. RLzoo provides developers with (i) high-level yet flexible APIs for prototyping DRL agents, and further customising the agents for best performance, (ii) a model zoo where users can import a wide range of DRL agents and easily compare their performance, and (iii) an algorithm that can automatically construct DRL agents with custom components (which are critical to improve agent's performance in custom applications). Evaluation results show that RLzoo can effectively reduce the development cost of DRL agents, while achieving comparable performance with existing DRL libraries.

Iterative Update and Unified Representation for Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Multi-agent systems have a wide range of applications in cooperative and competitive tasks. As the number of agents increases, nonstationarity gets more serious in multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL), which brings great difficulties to the learning process. Besides, current mainstream algorithms configure each agent an independent network,so that the memory usage increases linearly with the number of agents which greatly slows down the interaction with the environment. Inspired by Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), this paper proposes an iterative update method (IU) to stabilize the nonstationary environment. Further, we add first-person perspective and represent all agents by only one network which can change agents' policies from sequential compute to batch compute. Similar to continual lifelong learning, we realize the iterative update method in this unified representative network (IUUR). In this method, iterative update can greatly alleviate the nonstationarity of the environment, unified representation can speed up the interaction with environment and avoid the linear growth of memory usage. Besides, this method does not bother decentralized execution and distributed deployment. Experiments show that compared with MADDPG, our algorithm achieves state-of-the-art performance and saves wall-clock time by a large margin especially with more agents.
