Hybridizing Equilibrium Propagation with Ising Machines for Efficient Energy-Based Learning

The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence has led to substantial advances in deep neural networks. Nonetheless, conventional GPU-based training remains highly energy-demanding, motivating the exploration of physical dynamics and compatible energy-based learning schemes, such as equilibrium propagation (EP). EP-based training, however, frequently suffers from convergence to local minima due to phase-space contraction. Here we introduce an Ising-dynamics-inspired equilibrium-propagation framework in which dissipative Hopfield relaxation is replaced by an extended phase-space dynamics with conjugate variables. The resulting training paradigm keeps the local two-phase learning rule of EP while changing the physical route by which neural states reach equilibrium. We show that this dynamics lowers effective energy barriers, accelerates convergence, improves noise robustness, and trains deep convolutional Hopfield networks on MNIST, FashionMNIST, and CIFAR-10 with performance comparable to backpropagation.

General Criteria for Certifying Genuine High-Dimensional Quantum Teleportation

Developing reliable methods for certifying the dimension of a given quantum system or process is essential to ensure the validity of claimed realization of high-dimensional (HD) quantum advantages. The existing criteria for certifying genuine HD quantum teleportation (HDQT) mainly focus on demonstrating the successful transmission of genuine HD quantum states. However, a complete certification of HDQT must also identify the entanglement dimension of resource, which is critical for verifying whether the transmission capacity and noise resilience meet the necessary thresholds. Here we propose two universal criteria (based on fidelity and robustness, respectively) for certifying genuine HDQT behaviors that can close this gap by fully identifying the dimension of the entanglement. Both criteria require only the input and output teleportation data and remain feasible under partial Bell-state measurements. Furthermore, the robustness-based criterion has stronger noise resistance and it requires no prior assumptions about local operations, making it robust even in black-box scenario. Our results establish a universal and reliable theoretical framework for validating the core quantum advantage in HDQT, pivotal for ensuring the reliable links in HD quantum networks.

Validating a Koopman-Quantum Hybrid Paradigm for Diagnostic Denoising of Fusion Devices

The potential of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) in data-intensive science is strictly bottlenecked the difficulty of interfacing high-dimensional, chaotic classical data into resource-limited, noisy quantum processors. To bridge this gap, we introduce a physics-informed Koopman-Quantum hybrid framework, theoretically grounded in a representation-level structural isomorphism we establish between the Koopman operator, which linearizes nonlinear dynamics, and quantum evolution. Based on this theoretical foundation, we design a realizable NISQ-friendly pipeline: the Koopman operator functions as a physics-aware "data distiller," compressing waveforms into compact, "quantum-ready" features, which are subsequently processed by a modular, parallel quantum neural network. We validated this framework on 4,763 labeled channel sequences from 433 discharges of the tokamak system. The results demonstrate that our model achieves 97.0\% accuracy in screening corrupted diagnostic data, matching the performance of state-of-the-art deep classical CNNs while using orders-of-magnitude fewer trainable parameters. This work establishes a practical, physics-grounded paradigm for leveraging quantum processing in constrained environments, offering a scalable path for quantum-enhanced edge computing.

Stable intense 1 kHz supercontinuum light generation in air

Supercontinuum (SC) light source has advanced ultrafast laser spectroscopy in condensed matter science, biology, physics, and chemistry. Compared to the frequently used photonic crystal fibers and bulk materials, femtosecond laser filamentation in gases is damage-immune for supercontinuum generation. A bottleneck problem is the strong jitters from filament induced self-heating at kHz repetition rate level. We demonstrate stable kHz supercontinuum generation directly in air with multiple mJ level pulse energy. This is achieved by applying an external DC electric field to the air plasma filament through the effects of plasma wave guiding and Coulomb interaction. Both pointing and intensity jitters of 1 kHz air filament induced SC light are reduced by more than 2 fold. This offers the opportunities for stable intense SC generation and other laser filament based applications in air.

Polarization sensitive laser intensity inside femtosecond filament in air

Polarization dependence on clamping intensity inside femtosecond filament was experimentally measured in air. By tuning the laser pulse ellipse from linear polarization to circular polarization, the measured clamping intensity inside laser filament is gradually increased up to 1.7 times. The experimental results are in good agreement with the simulation results by solving the extended nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE). The polarization sensitive clamping intensity inside filaments offers an important factor towards fully understanding the polarization related phenomenon observed so far.

Gain lifetime characterization through time-resolved stimulated emission in a whispering-gallery mode microresonator

The precise measurement of the gain lifetime at a specific wavelength holds significant importance for understanding the properties of photonic devices and further improving their performances. Here, we show that the evolution of gains can be well characterized by measuring linewidth changes of an optical mode in a microresonator; this method cannot be achieved using time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. We use an erbium-doped high-Q whispering-gallery microresonator to show the feasibility of this method. With the increase of time after the pump laser is turned off, the transmission spectrum of a probe signal exhibits transitions from a Lorentz peak to a dip; this indicates a decay of optical gains, and the corresponding lifetime is estimated to be 5.1 ms. Moreover, taper fiber coupling is used to increase the pump and collection efficiency. This method can be extended to other materials and nanostructures.

A new approach for rain gush formation associated with ionic wind

Based upon experimental observation in the laboratory, we propose that ionic wind from corona discharge inside a thundercloud would play an important role in producing a rain gush. A cyclic chain of events inside a super-saturated environment in a thundercloud is proposed, each event enhancing the successive ones until lightning occurs. These successive events are collision between snowflakes and rimers, charge separation, corona discharge, avalanche ionization, ionic wind originating from the positively and negatively charged masses of cloud, vortex motion and turbulence when mixed with the updraft, more collision, more charge separation, stronger corona discharge, and so on. Meanwhile, avalanche ionization would produce more CCN (cloud condensation nuclei) resulting in more precipitation and hence rimers formation in the super-saturated environment. More collision in the buoyant turbulence would lead to more fusion of droplets and the formation of larger rimers. The cyclic processes would repeat themselves until the electric field between the two oppositely charged masses of cloud was strong enough to induce a breakdown. The latter would create a sudden short circuit between the two charged masses of cloud neutralizing the charges. There would be no more ionic wind, hence, much less buoyant turbulence. The updraft alone would not be sufficiently strong to support larger rimers which would fall down 'suddenly' to the earth surface as a rain gush.

Laser guided ionic wind

We report on a method to experimentally generate ionic wind by coupling an external high voltage electric field with an intense femtosecond laser induced air plasma filament. The measured ionic wind velocity could be as strong as >4 m/s. It could be optimized by changing the applied electric field and the laser induced plasma channel. The experimental observation was qualitatively confirmed by a numerical simulation of spatial distribution of the electric field. This technique is robust and free from sharp metallic electrodes for coronas; it opens a way to optically generate ionic wind at a distance.

Cavity mediated effective interaction between phonon and magnon

Optomagnonics and optomechanics have various applications ranging from tunable light sources to optical manipulation for quantum information science. Here, we propose a hybrid system with the interaction between phonon and magnon which could be tuned by the electromagnetic field based on the radiation pressure and magneto-optical effect. The self energy of the magnon and phonon induced by the electromagnetic field and the influence of the thermal noise are studied. Moreover, the topological features of the hybrid system is illustrated with resort to the dynamical encircling with the exceptional points, and the chiral characteristics under these encirclements are found.

Effective mass sensing using optomechanically induced transparency in microresonator system

Detecting and weighing the individual nanoparticles is an important approach to study the behavior and properties of single particles. Here we illustrate an effective mass sensing scheme using optomechanical resonator system. Based on the optomechanically induced transparency phenomenon, a Stokes field reference approach is used to sense the mass of the particle on the microresonator. The field intensity of the transmission field will be changed by the effect of the particle which avoids the limits of decay induced spectral width in the resonance shift detection. Exploiting the perturbation method, we theoretically evaluated the dynamical behavior of the system, and achieved the femtogram level mass sensing without the need for high cavity Q-value, and strong coupling strength in the optomechanically system.

Snowfall induced by corona discharge

We demonstrated for the first time the condensation and precipitation (or snowfall) induced by a corona discharge inside a cloud chamber. Ionic wind was found to have played a more significant role than ions as extra Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN). 2.25 g of net snow enhancement was measured after applying a 30 kV corona discharge for 25 min. In comparison with another newly emerging femtosecond laser filamentation method, the snow precipitation induced by the corona discharge has about 4 orders of magnitude higher wall-plug efficiency under similar conditions.

Direct observation of laser guided corona discharges

Laser based lightning control holds a promising way to solve the problem of the long standing disaster of lightning strikes. But it is a challenging project due to insufficient understanding of the interaction between laser plasma channel and high voltage electric filed. In this work, a direct observation of laser guided corona discharge is reported. The high voltage corona discharge can be guided along laser plasma filament, and enhanced through the interaction with laser filaments. The fluorescence lifetime of laser filament guided corona discharge was measured to be several microseconds, which is 3 orders of magnitude longer than the fluorescence lifetime of laser filaments. This could be advantageous towards laser assisted leader development in the atmosphere.

Complete analysis and generation of hyperentangled Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state for photons using quantum-dot spins in optical microcavities

We propose a scheme for the complete differentiation of 64 three-photon hyperentangled GHZ states in both polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedoms using the quantum-dot cavity system. The three-photon hyperentangled-GHZ-state-analysis scheme can also be used to generate 3-photon hyperentangled GHZ states. This proposed hyperentangled analysis and generation device can serve as crucial components of the high-capacity, long-distance quantum communication. We use quantum swapping as an example to show the application of this device in quantum communication with polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedoms. Using numerical calculations, we show that the present scheme may be feasible in strong-coupling regimes with current technologies.

Faithful entanglement sharing for quantum communication against collective noise

We present an economical setup for faithful entanglement sharing against collective noise. It is composed of polarizing beam splitters, half wave plates, polarization independent wavelength division multiplexers, and frequency shifters. An arbitrary qubit error on the polarization state of each photon in a multi-photon system caused by the noisy channel can be rejected, without resorting to additional qubits, fast polarization modulators, and nondestructive quantum nondemolition detectors. Its success probability is in principle 100%, which is independent of the noise parameters, and it can be applied directly in any one-way quantum communication protocol based on entanglement.

Optimal multipartite entanglement concentration of electron-spin states based on charge detection and projection measurements

We propose an optimal entanglement concentration protocol (ECP) for nonlocal N-electron systems in a partially entangled pure state, resorting to charge detection and the projection measurement on an additional electron. For each nonlocal N-electron system, one party in quantum communication, say Alice first entangles it with an additional electron, and then she projects the additional electron into an orthogonal basis for dividing the N-electron systems into two groups. In the first group, the N parties obtain a subset of $N$-electron systems in a maximally entangled state directly. In the second group, they obtain some less-entangled N-electron systems which are the resource for the entanglement concentration in the next round. By iterating the entanglement concentration process several times, the present ECP has the maximal success probability, the theoretical limit of an ECP as it just equals to the entanglement of the partially entangled state, far higher than others, without resorting to a collective unitary evolution.

High-capacity quantum secure direct communication based on quantum hyperdense coding with hyperentanglement

We present a quantum hyperdense coding protocol with hyperentanglement in polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedom of photons first and then give the details for a quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) protocol based on this quantum hyperdense coding protocol. This QSDC protocol has the advantage of having a higher capacity than the quantum communication protocols with a qubit system. Compared with the QSDC protocol based on superdense coding with $d$-dimensional systems, this QSDC protocol is more feasible as the preparation of a high-dimension quantum system is more difficult than that of a two-level quantum system at present.

Multipartite entanglement purification with quantum nondemolition detectors

We present a scheme for multipartite entanglement purification of quantum systems in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state with quantum nondemolition detectors (QNDs). This scheme does not require the controlled-not gates which cannot be implemented perfectly with linear optical elements at present, but QNDs based on cross-Kerr nonlinearities. It works with two steps, i.e., the bit-flipping error correction and the phase-flipping error correction. These two steps can be iterated perfectly with parity checks and simple single-photon measurements. This scheme does not require the parties to possess sophisticated single photon detectors. These features maybe make this scheme more efficient and feasible than others in practical applications.
