RoboChallenge: Large-scale Real-robot Evaluation of Embodied Policies

Testing on real machines is indispensable for robotic control algorithms. In the context of learning-based algorithms, especially VLA models, demand for large-scale evaluation, i.e. testing a large number of models on a large number of tasks, is becoming increasingly urgent. However, doing this right is highly non-trivial, especially when scalability and reproducibility is taken into account. In this report, we describe our methodology for constructing RoboChallenge, an online evaluation system to test robotic control algorithms, and our survey of recent state-of-the-art VLA models using our initial benchmark Table30.

PIN: A Knowledge-Intensive Dataset for Paired and Interleaved Multimodal Documents

Recent advancements in large multimodal models (LMMs) have leveraged extensive multimodal datasets to enhance capabilities in complex knowledge-driven tasks. However, persistent challenges in perceptual and reasoning errors limit their efficacy, particularly in interpreting intricate visual data and deducing multimodal relationships. To address these issues, we introduce PIN (Paired and INterleaved multimodal documents), a novel data format designed to foster a deeper integration of visual and textual knowledge. The PIN format uniquely combines semantically rich Markdown files, which preserve fine-grained textual structures, with holistic overall images that capture the complete document layout. Following this format, we construct and release two large-scale, open-source datasets: PIN-200M (~200 million documents) and PIN-14M (~14 million), compiled from diverse web and scientific sources in both English and Chinese. To maximize usability, we provide detailed statistical analyses and equip the datasets with quality signals, enabling researchers to easily filter and select data for specific tasks. Our work provides the community with a versatile data format and substantial resources, offering a foundation for new research in pre-training strategies and the development of more powerful knowledge-intensive LMMs.

Modeling and Control of AWOISV: A Filtered Tube-Based MPC Approach for Simultaneous Tracking of Lateral Position and Heading Angle

An all-wheel omni-directional independent steering vehicle (AWOISV) is a specialized all-wheel independent steering vehicle with each wheel capable of steering up to 90°, enabling unique maneuvers like yaw and diagonal movement. This paper introduces a theoretical steering radius angle and sideslip angle (\( θ_R \)-\(β_R \)) representation, based on the position of the instantaneous center of rotation relative to the wheel rotation center, defining the motion modes and switching criteria for AWOISVs. A generalized \( v\)-\(β\)-\(r \) dynamic model is developed with forward velocity \(v\), sideslip angle \(β\), and yaw rate \(r\) as states, and \(θ_R\) and \(β_R\) as control inputs. This model decouples longitudinal and lateral motions into forward and rotational motions, allowing seamless transitions across all motion modes under specific conditions. A filtered tube-based linear time-varying MPC (FT-LTVMPC) strategy is proposed, achieving simultaneous tracking of lateral position and arbitrary heading angles, with robustness to model inaccuracies and parameter uncertainties. Co-simulation and hardware-in-loop (HIL) experiments confirm that FT-LTVMPC enables high-precision control of both position and heading while ensuring excellent real-time performance.

TensorFlow Lite Micro: Embedded Machine Learning on TinyML Systems

Deep learning inference on embedded devices is a burgeoning field with myriad applications because tiny embedded devices are omnipresent. But we must overcome major challenges before we can benefit from this opportunity. Embedded processors are severely resource constrained. Their nearest mobile counterparts exhibit at least a 100 -- 1,000x difference in compute capability, memory availability, and power consumption. As a result, the machine-learning (ML) models and associated ML inference framework must not only execute efficiently but also operate in a few kilobytes of memory. Also, the embedded devices' ecosystem is heavily fragmented. To maximize efficiency, system vendors often omit many features that commonly appear in mainstream systems, including dynamic memory allocation and virtual memory, that allow for cross-platform interoperability. The hardware comes in many flavors (e.g., instruction-set architecture and FPU support, or lack thereof). We introduce TensorFlow Lite Micro (TF Micro), an open-source ML inference framework for running deep-learning models on embedded systems. TF Micro tackles the efficiency requirements imposed by embedded-system resource constraints and the fragmentation challenges that make cross-platform interoperability nearly impossible. The framework adopts a unique interpreter-based approach that provides flexibility while overcoming these challenges. This paper explains the design decisions behind TF Micro and describes its implementation details. Also, we present an evaluation to demonstrate its low resource requirement and minimal run-time performance overhead.
