Effect of weak nonlocal nonlinearity on generalized sixth-order dispersion modulational instability in optical media

This paper analyzes the behaviors of solitons in even higher-order dispersive media and explores the modulational instability phenomenon in optical media. The analysis considers quadratic, quartic, and sextic dispersions with weakly nonlocal Kerr nonlinearity. The results show that nonlocality enhances the MI gain and leads to rogue waves in response to different combinations of even dispersions and nonlocal nonlinearity. The study suggests that Kerr nonlocality can enhance the excitation of extreme events in even higher-order dispersive nonlinear media with potential applications in optical fibers and fiber lasers.

Dynamics of matter-wave solutions of Bose-Einstein condensates in a homogeneous gravitational field

We find a matter-wave solution of Bose-Einstein condensates trapped in a harmonic-oscillator potential and subjected to a homogeneous gravitational field, by means of the extended tanhfunction method. This solution has as special cases the bright and dark solitons. We investigate the dynamics and the kinematics of these solutions, and the role of gravity is sketched. It is shown that these solutions can be generated and manipulated by controlling the s-wave scattering length, without changing the strengths of the magnetic and gravitational fields.

Nonlinear optical responses and gap-soliton lattices in layered dielectric materials

A new approach to the nonlinear reponse of a multiplayer structure consisting of alternating dielectric materials with intensity-dependent dielectric constants is considered in both analytical and numerical viewpoints. The nonlinear feedback of the structure gives rise to an artificial potential acting as a mean-field feedback on each single dielectric material due to other layers. For superlattices resulting from a regular periodic arrangement of an infinite number of single dielectric layers, it is shown that an analytical expression of this mean-field feedback can be obtained and waveshapes of the associate gap solitons are derived. The case of a multilayer with dispersive interlayer interactions is considered numerically and leads to strongly localized gap solitons. Implicatons of the artificial soliton structure as for possible theoretical modelling of soliton-compression phenomena are discussed.
