Extra dimensions and Lorentz invariance violation

We consider effective model where photons interact with scalar field corresponding to conformal excitations of the internal space (geometrical moduli/gravexcitons). We demonstrate that this interaction results in a modified dispersion relation for photons, and consequently, the photon group velocity depends on the energy implying the propagation time delay effect. We suggest to use the experimental bounds of the time delay of gamma ray bursts (GRBs) photons propagation as an additional constrain for the gravexciton parameters.

CMB anisotropies due to cosmological magnetosonic waves

We study scalar mode perturbations (magnetosonic waves) induced by a helical stochastic cosmological magnetic field and derive analytically the corresponding cosmic microwave background (CMB) temperature and polarization anisotropy angular power spectra. We show that the presence of a stochastic magnetic field, or an homogeneous magnetic field, influences the acoustic oscillation pattern of the CMB anisotropy power spectrum, effectively acting as a reduction of the baryon fraction. We find that the scalar magnetic energy density perturbation contribution to the CMB temperature anisotropy is small compared to the contribution to the CMB $E$-polarization anisotropy.

Gamma Ray Burst Constraints on Ultraviolet Lorentz Invariance Violation

We present a unified general formalism for ultraviolet Lorentz invariance violation (LV) testing through electromagnetic wave propagation, based on both dispersion and rotation measure data. This allows for a direct comparison of the efficacy of different data to constrain LV. As an example we study the signature of LV on the rotation of the polarization plane of $γ$-rays from gamma ray bursts in a LV model. Here $γ$-ray polarization data can provide a strong constraint on LV, 13 orders of magnitude more restrictive than a potential constraint from the rotation of the cosmic microwave background polarization proposed by Gamboa, López-Sarrión, and Polychronakos (2006).

Effects of primordial helicity on CMB

I present here a brief overview of the effects caused by parity violating cosmological sources (such as magnetic or kinetic helicity) on the CMB fluctuations. I discuss also primordial helicity induced relic gravitational waves. All these effects can serve as cosmological tests for primordial helicity detection.

On the Detection of Magnetic Helicity

Magnetic fields in various astrophysical settings may be helical and, in the cosmological context, may provide a measure of primordial CP violation during baryogenesis. Yet it is difficult, even in principle, to devise a scheme by which magnetic helicity may be detected, except in some very special systems. We propose that charged cosmic rays originating from known sources may be useful for this purpose. We show that the correlator of the arrival momenta of the cosmic rays is sensitive to the helicity of an intervening magnetic field. If the sources themselves are not known, the method may still be useful provided we have some knowledge of their spatial distribution.

Effects of Cosmological Magnetic Helicity on the CMB

In this talk I present a short review of primordial magnetic helicity effects on Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature and polarization anisotropies. These effects allow us to test for cosmological magnetic helicity, however, very accurate CMB fluctuation data is required. This scheme for magnetic helicity detection is valid only for a cosmological magnetic field with a present amplitude larger than $10^{-9}-10^{-10}$ Gauss.

Polarized Cosmological Gravitational Waves from Primordial Helical Turbulence

We show that helical turbulence produced during a first-order phase transition generates circularly polarized cosmological gravitational waves (GWs). The characteristic frequency of these GWs for an extreme case of the phase transition model is around $10^{-3}$ --- $10^{-2}$ Hz with an energy density parameter as high as $10^{-12}$ --- $10^{-11}$. The possibility of detection is briefly discussed.

Gravitational Radiation from Primordial Helical Turbulence

In present talk I show that primordial helical turbulence produced during a first-order phase transition induces circularly polarized cosmological gravitational waves (GWs). The degree of polarization as well as the characteristic frequency and the amplitude of these GWs depend crucially on phase-transition model of primordial turbulence. I present a brief discussion on the possibility of detection.

Neutrino Mass Limit from Galaxy Cluster Number Density Evolution

Measurements of the evolution with redshift of the number density of massive galaxy clusters are used to constrain the energy density of massive neutrinos and so the sum of neutrino masses $\sum m_ν$. We consider a spatially-flat cosmological model with cosmological constant, cold dark matter, baryonic matter, and massive neutrinos. Accounting for the uncertainties in the measurements of the relevant cosmological parameters we obtain a limit of $\sum m_ν$ $<$ 2.4 eV (95 % C.L.).

Effects of Cosmological Magnetic Helicity on the Cosmic Microwave Background

Cosmological magnetic fields induce temperature and polarization fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation. A cosmological magnetic field with current amplitude of order $10^{-9}$ G is detectable via observations of CMB anisotropies. This magnetic field (with or without helicity) generates vector perturbations through vortical motions of the primordial plasma. This paper shows that magnetic field helicity induces parity-odd cross correlations between CMB temperature and $B$-polarization fluctuations and between $E$- and $B$-polarization fluctuations, correlations which are zero for fields with no helicity (or for any parity-invariant source). Helical fields also contribute to parity-even temperature and polarization anisotropies, cancelling part of the contribution from the symmetric component of the magnetic field. We give analytic approximations for all CMB temperature and polarization anisotropy vector power spectra due to helical magnetic fields. These power spectra offer a method for detecting cosmological helical magnetic fields, particularly when combined with Faraday rotation measurements which are insensitive to helicity.

Faraday Rotation of the Cosmic Microwave Background Polarization by a Stochastic Magnetic Field

A primordial cosmological magnetic field induces Faraday rotation of the cosmic microwave background polarization. This rotation produces a curl-type polarization component even when the unrotated polarization possesses only gradient-type polarization, as expected from scalar density perturbations. We compute the angular power spectrum of curl-type polarization arising from small Faraday rotation due to a weak stochastic primordial magnetic field with a power-law power spectrum. The induced polarization power spectrum peaks at arcminute angular scales. Faraday rotation is one of the few cosmological sources of curl-type polarization, along with primordial tensor perturbations, gravitational lensing, and the vector and tensor perturbations induced by magnetic fields; the Faraday rotation signal peaks on significantly smaller angular scales than any of these, with a power spectrum amplitude which can be comparable to that from gravitational lensing. Prospects for detection are briefly discussed.

The Cosmic Microwave Background and Helical Magnetic Fields: the tensor mode

We study the effect of a possible helicity component of a primordial magnetic field on the tensor part of the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies and polarization. We give analytical approximations for the tensor contributions induced by helicity, discussing their amplitude and spectral index in dependence of the power spectrum of the primordial magnetic field. We find that an helical magnetic field creates a parity odd component of gravity waves inducing parity odd polarization signals. However, only if the magnetic field is close to scale invariant and if its helical part is close to maximal, the effect is sufficiently large to be observable. We also discuss the implications of causality on the magnetic field spectrum.

Looking for Cosmological Alfven Waves in WMAP Data

A primordial cosmological magnetic field induces and supports vorticity or Alfven waves, which in turn generate cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies. A homogeneous primordial magnetic field with fixed direction induces correlations between the $a_{l-1,m}$ and $a_{l+1,m}$ multipole coefficients of the CMB temperature anisotropy field. We discuss the constraints that can be placed on the strength of such a primordial magnetic field using CMB anisotropy data from the WMAP experiment. We place 3 $σ$ upper limits on the strength of the magnetic field of $B < 15$ nG for vector perturbation spectral index $n=-5$ and $B<1.7$ nG for $n=-7$.

Microwave Background Signatures of a Primordial Stochastic Magnetic Field

A stochastic magnetic field in the early Universe will produce anisotropies in the temperature and polarization of the cosmic microwave background. We derive analytic expressions for the microwave background temperature and polarization power spectra induced by vector and tensor perturbations from a power-law magnetic field. For a scale-invariant stochastic magnetic field smoothed over a comoving scale of $1 {\rm Mpc}$, the MAP satellite has the potential to constrain the comoving mean-field amplitude to be no greater than approximately $2\times10^{-9}$ G. Limits improve as the power-law slope increases: for causally-generated power-law magnetic fields, the comoving mean-field amplitude has an upper bound of approximately $4\times10^{-13} {\rm G}$. Such constraints will surpass all current limits on galactic-scale primordial stochastic magnetic fields at decoupling.

Microwave Background Anisotropies from Alfven waves

We investigate microwave background anisotropies in the presence of primordial magnetic fields. We show that a homogeneous field with fixed direction can amplify vector perturbations. We calculate the correlations of $δT/T$ explicitly and show that a large scale coherent field induces correlations between $a_{\ell-1,m}$ and $a_{\ell+1,m}$. We discuss constraints on amplitude and spectrum of a primordial magnetic field imposed by observations of CMB anisotropies.

CMB anisotropies caused by gravitational waves: A parameter study

Anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background radiation due to gravity waves are investigated. An initial spectrum of gravity waves may have been induced during an epoch of inflation. We study the propagation of such a spectrum in a Friedmann background of hot and cold dark matter, radiation and (possibly) a cosmological constant. We finally calculate its imprint as anisotropies on the cosmic microwave background. We also take into account that massless particles can source gravity waves by their anisotropic stresses. We consider general mixed dark matter models with and without cosmological constant. For a given, scale invariant input spectrum of gravity we determine the dependence of the resulting spectrum of CMB anisotropies on the different model parameters.
